The Fiesta Burger Murder
Boston Homicide Detective, Christie Watson, wants nothing less than to bury her head in the sand in her hometown, Sleepy Creek, Ohio. For the first in a series, this book by Author Rosie A. Point, got off to a good start.
I’ve had THE FIESTA BURGER MURDER in my TBR for way too long. I should have read it back when it first came out, but lost it in a file of eBooks I keep. Anyway, I’m happy to have found it, and finally read it.
It took me just about half the book to warm up to lead character, Christie Watson. She’s not someone I think I could have easily become friends with. However, the more I read, the more I came to like her. I look forward to seeing her grow in future installments.
THE FIESTA BURGER MURDER moved at a brisk pace, but enjoyable pace. And even though this book is a novella, it read as strong and solid as a full length book would. Although fast moving, as I mentioned, it didn’t feel like the storyline suffered to get it to a quick ending. The main mystery was well done, and a secondary mystery within the book will carry over to the next.
Give THE FIESTA BURGER MYSTERY a read. And don’t miss the recipes at the end of the book. They have you wanting to throw a Mexican dinner party!

Usually when I read a cozy, it’s for the characters because they are typically darling or over the top. Neither were the case for The Fiesta Burger Murder. And so there wasn’t that warm and fuzzy feeling with this story. It was just okay.

Father's day I read a first in series by Rosie A. Point called The Fiesta Burger Murder. This book was sent to me for review and is out on July 4th. While the cover doesn't scream cozy mystery it does look darn good and was a very good mystery. Christie Watson is the main character, impulsive, inquizitive and on sabbatical from her job as a police officer in Boston. Coming home to her best friend's house after years of being away and under duress, this break is not at all what she is looking forward to but is exactly what she needs. I think this will be a very good series and one to watch for!

A policewoman from Boston returns to her tiny hometown, to catch up with her old friend, and maybe working on solving the murder of her own mother, which happened years ago.
Soon enough, someone is murdered in her friend's backyard. The detectives are obvious future paramours of the ladies'.
Of course, this murder is connected to the murder of her mother, and our heroine finds herself in trouble several times.
Not bad, but not a classic in the field.

Not a bad start to a cozy mystery series but lots of room to grow.
Christie Watson, on sabbatical from her job as a Boston police detective has returned to her hometown of Sleepy Creek where a mystery immediately lands in her backyard, or rather her best friend's backyard. Try as she might, Christie can't ignore the itch to investigate, especially when she realizes the dead man was connected to her mom who was murdered here many years ago. Could the crimes be related?
The mystery was good but I was expecting it to go farther than it did. It was a shock to be nearing the end so soon. I guess Rosie wants to hook us for the next book. Will I read the next one? Not sure. The characters weren't my favourite but we really don't get a lot about anyone, nor do we meet many characters. How big is this town? How is the rumour mill even running? There’s like 11 people in this place! There was just the vaguest sense at few points that there were more people around than the ones Christie was directly interacting with. There was very little world building! I don’t really have any sense of Sleepy Creek other than the burger place and Grizzy’s house. There was one public event but Christie solely focused on Pete and Francis Sarah so I got no sense of the community. The only thing we get to know about Sleepy Creek is that the rumours spread like wildfire. I'm just frustrated by this lack of world building. Unless I want to know what happened to Christie's mother, there's literally nothing to make me want to come back to Sleepy Creek because I don't know any reasons I should!

Rosie A Point has written a page turner. I received an ARC Copy of of this book and chose to review it. Rosie has created characters that you want to help all the way through. You feel bad for Christie's situation, but you can empathize with Griz when Chris is constantly in trouble. Childhood friends who re connect after years of online and long distance communications, Griz tries to support Christie's decision to help her when a body is found. With a subplot that could connect to the main plot, I couldn't put the book down until I got to the last few pages to find out if who I thought was the murderer was. Great read and I highly recommend it!

Detective Christie Watson is on a forced sabbatical from her job with Boston Homicide. For Christie, this is a perfect time to revisit her roots and spend time with her friend Grizzy back in Sleepy Creek. Unfortunately for Christie, one of the locals is murdered and she and Grizzy are immediately involved.
Thus begins “The Fiesta Burger Murder,” a cozy mystery by author Rosie A. Point. This is a short, quick read that has many entertaining moments. At the same time, there are story elements that rear their ugly heads and threaten to destroy the good things Ms. Point has built.
I was more concerned about Christie than the murder investigation, and the murder mystery didn’t pull me in until over half the book was finished. An event happened to Christie at that point, which subsequently caused me to direct more attention to the murder. The story is told in first person, so it is natural that Christie would be in the forefront. Being allowed to view her tangled thoughts is a major factor that kept me reading, but I felt it took a long time for the mystery to become a larger focus of the story than Christie.
There were a few conflicting items that caught my attention. After a potential crime had occurred, it was explained that the victim had decided not to press charges, yet the alleged perpetrator still had to post bail. In a sleepy town where a shop owner feels comfortable enough to count the money in front of customers, that same owner has an instant notification device to contact the police in times of trouble.
These few inconsistencies were not strong enough on their own to ruin the story, even when coupled with the periodic proofreading errors. Author Point demonstrates her talent with her treatment of Christie, who is more cutesy than saucy and is a perfect blend with the cozy mystery style. Her inner banter creates a flavor that dresses the story in a fun way, keeping readers entertained and turning pages. Despite the negative aspects I mentioned, I would not be against reading another book by this author. As a first outing, this book has enough charm to warrant three-and-a-half-stars.

Christie Watson is a Boston homicide detective whose recent investigation has earned her a suspension. She decides to return to her hometown of Sleepy Hollow, Ohio. She hasn't seen her best friend, Griselda (Grizzy) nor has she returned since her mother was murdered twelve years ago. Grizzy is the proud owner of a successful bar and restaurant whose specialty is the Fiesta Burger. While she and Grizzy are sleeping that first night, a man is murdered in Grizzy's backyard and another is seen jumping over her back fence to escape. Although she is warned not to investigate, Christie can't help herselp, especially when she believes that her best friend may be the primary suspect. As she continues her sleuthing, she discovers the deceased's family and her own have deeper ties than she could ever have imagined.
I enjoyed the book. It had a nice pace and the mystery plot had multiple layers, which kept me guessing the killer's identity until the very end. It was well-written and edited. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series. There are three recipes at the end, including one for the Fiesta Burger.

I love cozy mysteries. I especially love culinary cozy mysteries. And I loved The Fiesta Burger Murder by Rosie A. Point! I enjoyed the story and it moved at a good pace without long, boring lags. The mystery kept me guessing throughout the book, which I like. The main character, Christie, is a big city homicide detective on sabbatical, so it makes sense that she would investigate a murder while staying in her small hometown. I liked Christie and her friend Grizzy, and found myself drawn into the story by their friendship. And I was happy to see that like many culinary mysteries, this one includes recipes to try! I'll be looking forward to reading book #2 in the Burger Bar Mysteries! I received an ARC of this book and chose to write this review.

Confesso che ho scelto di leggere questo libro perché mi piacciono gli hamburgher, quelli ben fatti, non quelli dei fast-food! Pochi giorni dopo che l'avevo messo in lista è stato posto in vendita gratis e l'ho subito comprato, anche perché mi piaceva molto la trama. Ieri sera sul tardi l'ho iniziato, finendolo stamattina, ma essendo un racconto di un centinaio di pagine avrei potuto leggerlo tutto di un fiato perché si fa proprio leggere. Per essere un'autoproduzione sono rimasta colpita da quanto sia scritto bene (disse quella che ha imparato l'inglese da autodidatta e leggendo libri in lingua!): mi piace lo stile dell'autrice. Bella anche la storia, anche se la protagonista, pur essendo una poliziotta, tende un po' troppo a fare di testa sua; mi piacciono anche le due possibili storie d'amore che sono, forse, prevedibili per il futuro. Morale della favola: sto aspettando il seguito, anche perché c'è un mistero del passato, che tocca molto da vicino la protagonista, che non è stato risolto.

I always enjoy getting the chance to start a brand new cozy series from the very beginning. Such was the case of THE FIESTA BURGER MURDER by Rosie A. Point. This novella cozy finds the protagonist, Christie Watson (love that her mother named her after Agatha Christie), moving back to Sleepy Creek, Ohio while placed on leave from her job. She didn’t mean to get overly aggressive “interviewing” a senator’s daughter in her capacity as a homicide detective in Boston but her enthusiasm made her get carried away. Christie hasn’t been back “home” for quite a long time, avoiding it in order to avoid the mystery surrounding her mother’s death. Ms. Point draws on that mystery to weave as a theme throughout the book and beyond. While Christie’s mother’s death may be unsolved, Christie gets involved almost immediately in the death of a man she got into a semi-altercation with the first day back in town. When her best friend, Griselda aka “Grizzy” becomes a suspect, despite the warning to not get involved in anything or lose her job, Christie knows she must find the real killer.
THE FIESTA BURGER MURDER has a fast-paced plot with likable and quirky characters. I enjoyed the dialog especially between Christie and the two senior citizen twin sisters who frequent Grizzy’s Burger Bar. Named after states, Mississippi (known as Missi) and Virginia can dish it out which provides entertainment. There could be sparks flying between Christie and the lead detective, Liam Balle. However, her friend Grizzy and second detective on the case, Detective Cotton brings smiles to the reader with their humorous, sweet interaction as they “crush” on each other but either don’t know it or won’t admit it. Being a short (novella) cozy, the ending felt a bit rushed, but the plot was wrapped up for a satisfying conclusion except for the mystery surrounding Christie’s mother’s death. I’m not faulting that… in fact given the time frame that has passed since the mother’s death, I think the author is smart to spread out the clues for a long term discovery on Christie’s part into investigating the mystery. Christie has both an emotional investment and a professional investment in her investigation. I look forward to seeing how the story unfolds.
Grizzy’s Burger Bar has a talented chef and as such there are some nice breakfast and “bar” type recipes at the back of the book. I tried Grizzy's Go-To Omelet and found the instructions easy to follow and the results quite delicious and satisfying.
I was provided a copy of the book with the hopes I would review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This series is off to a great start, I loved this book.
Christie comes home to Sleepy Creek to visit a friend while on sabbatical she gets more than she bargained for when a body turns up in her best friend's backyard. Christie gets drawn into helping her friend when a past history seems to tie in making it impossible for her to stay out of it even though she could lose her job.
I love the characters, Christie is strong and likable, the true friendship that Grizzy and her share shines through, they accept each other and know when to back off when needed. The twin sisters had me laughing out loud, love Missi. There is an interesting mix of characters that works well together. The mystery had me guessing although I admit I figured it out before Christie, but loved the mix of stories between past and present.
There is the added bonus of some wonderful sounding recipes in the back, I have got to try this burger. I will be continuing on with this series and eagerly await the next.

This is the first book in the series by Rosie A. Point and I am in LOVE WITH IT!!! Ok so here we have a book about a detective name Chrissy who is on leave from her police department, in Boston, only to come back to her hometown to visit her best friend Grizzy. Of course the her hometown has changed and brings back some painful memories but Chrissy will just have to adjust. Her first few hours back, she has a run in with a not so nice townee, at her bff's burger bar, and meets the most amazing yet strange twin sisters. Of course nothing ever goes smoothly for Chrissy; when she returns to Grizzy's home and find a dead body. Not just any dead body but the body of the person who was giving her a hard time at the Burger Bar earlier that day. So being the detective that she is, Chrissy not only has to help solve the murder and clear her best friend, but she will also discover something about her past that she didn't want to face.
What I enjoyed about this book, was the fact that we have a female detective as the lead. Normally we have the females as the lead but we have never had one that is actually a police officer and is a strong independent woman. Of course as women we have flaws and as you read the book you will see why Chrissy is the way that she is. You will also meet some other characters in this book that will have you cracking up. Of course as women we have flaws and as you read the book you will see why Chrissy is the way that she is. You will also meet some other characters in this book that will have you cracking up. Not only will you enjoy some good laughs, but you will also read this book and walk away hungry. I love this book because I can relate to Chrissy. Not a murder so to speak, but something painful, that has you feeling a little down but you have to keep pushing forward. SO GLAD I'VE STARTED ANOTHER SERIES OF ROSIE A POINTS. NOW I CAN OFFICIALLY SAY THAT I LOVE HER AS AN AUTHOR.
PREMISE: In this book we follow Chris aka Christie Watson, a former detective from Boston who has been placed on forced sabatical and now moved back to her old home town of Sleepy Creek in Ohio.
Taken in by her bestie Grisabella, aka Grizzy - Chris's new life involves working at Grizzy's Burger Bar along side her bestie and the chef, Jamacan Jarvis. Not to mention the quizzical cat Grizzy owns Curley Fries.
However, on the first night of Chris staying with Grizzy a murder takes place outside Grizzy's home. Now the small town is wondering if Chris's arrival is a coincidence or something more.
Detectives Cotton and Ball are on the Case - but they'll have to watch out because, you can take the detective out of Boston - but you can't ever get rid of it completely.
THOUGHTS: I loved this book! Given that I've read the first two books in Rosie A Points Sunny Side Up Cozy Mystery series, I wanted to give another series of her's a go and couldn't resist the cover of this book. Written three years prior to Sunny Side Up's book one, it still has everything I love about Rosie A Point.
Easy to read writing style, captivating characters, salivating foods and good mysteries. I'm looking forward to continuing on with the series!

The Fiesta Burger Murder is set in the small town of Sleepy Creek, Ohio. After being suspended from her job as a detective for the Boston Police Department, 30-year old Christie Watson returns to her hometown to de-stress until she can return to work. Her best friend, Grizzy Lewis has invited her to stay at her house. Grizzy owns a local restaurant called Grizzy's Burger Bar. She asks Chris if she might like to help her out and waitress some. When a man is murdered in Grizzy's backyard, Chris can't resist looking into it, even though it might mean losing her job for good. I love how Ms. Point sets the stage from the very beginning. By the time you get through the first chapter, you feel like you know Chris. The story was very well developed and kept me interested until the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes clean cozy mysteries and spunky heroines.

This book is the first in a new series and I have to say I really enjoyed this book. While on an unexpected mandatory leave of absence from her job with the Boston Police Department Christie goes to her hometown of Sleepy Creek to visit her best friend Grizzly. Christie doesn't get to relax at all though because a dead body shows up in Grizzly's back yard and then Christy finds a link between the victim and her mom, whose death was never solved. Then add the hometown detectives - one of which is smitten with her bff, one who might be smitten with her and oh don't forget the twins who are a riot! I can't wait for the next book in this series!

A very entertaining cozy mystery!
The book is a short yet entertaining and hilarious read. I love the uniqueness of the characters and their quirky personalities. The plot was just as interesting and I loved the pacing of the book. The investigation wasn’t hurried, didn’t drag on as we kept on getting introduced to new clues, and the connections were well-written and unexpected. Love the overall tone of the book and the suspense it carried.
This was such a good quick read and a well-written cozy mystery. I’ll definitely be reading the rest of the series.

I very much enjoyed this start to a new series. I really liked the MC Christie and the terrible twins. I am not sure I really liked Griselda Christie's best friend she seems pretty self righteous. I do like Liam Balle and hope he and Christie get together.
The story line was very good and I liked the fact that there were two story lines one the main murder story and the second the old case of her mother being murdered.
A really great start to a series I plan on continuing with.

“The Fiesta Burger Murder” earns 5/5 Best Grilled Burgers in Sleepy Creek!
Ok, maybe she went too far aggressively interviewing the senator’s daughter, but Christie Watson, named for Agatha, had a strong feeling in her “policeman’s gut” the daughter was hiding something about the death of her boyfriend. Well, as much as her motives were in the name of justice, her captain disagreed and suspended her, so she decides to spend her forced “vacation” at home in Sleepy Creek, Ohio, to help her BFF Griselda, owner of Grizzy’s Burger Bar, and find some perspective. But, that seems a tall order since the ‘niggling voice’ reminds her she still had some interest in investigating the one case she never wanted to touch…her mother’s murder. It seems, although she would be motivated to look into the thirteen-year old cold case, something more pressing is found near the fence of Grizzy’s backyard. “Loopy” Paul is dead and Grizzy is suspect number one!
I am always excited about getting in on the ground floor of a new series, and the Burger Bar Mystery series by Rosie A. Point has turned out to be just what I ‘ordered.’ It is more like a novella at only 110 pages, so it is perfect for a long morning with your coffee or the afternoon when the kids are outside playing: An unresolved past? BFF a suspect? Antagonistic local cop? This is a great recipe with a lot of spice. The story is exciting, nail-biting at times, with a great “Oh, my!” conclusion. Rosie Point��s characters appear well developed, even this early in the series, with several “maybe” directions for future books. I love the quirky twin sisters Missi and Virginia who added delightful humor, but my favorite is, of course, Christie, who finds it hard to sit on the sidelines often butting heads with the lead detective who isn’t impressed with her “Boston Cop” ways. Although Rosie has created a marvelous sleuth I am looking forward to following, I see a resemblance to the feisty “Jane Rizzoli” in Tess Gerritsen’s “Rizzoli and Isles” series. Much less cringing thriller, and more an engaging cozy…just the way I like it. The setting of the small town Sleepy Creek, Ohio, and the ins and outs of running a restaurant play out in the background along with the marvelous recipes direct from Grizzly’s Burger Bar: the Mexican Fiesta Burger with spicy jalapeño relish, Grizzy’s Go-To Omelet, and the Super Cheesy Quesadilla make this more than a cozy story…it’s a cozy brunch!

Overall I enjoyed The Fiesta Burger Murder. I liked Christie and Grizzy and the author's writing style flowed well. However, it seemed more like a novella than a full length book.

The Fiesta Burger Murder is the first installment in the Burger Bar Mystery series by Rosie A. Point. This book is actually novella length and was a fun read, though I wish it had been longer. At the end, we're left with more questions than answers, which isn't generally how I like to end a cozy mystery.
The characters are well-written and complex. I love Griselda. She's awesome! I'm not sure how I feel about Christie. She's a little too impulsive for my taste, but I want to see what she's like in additional books before really making a decision.
The setting descriptions that were included were well done, I just wish there had been more. I can easily visualize Griselda's house and the Burger Bar, but the rest of the small town, not so much. It would've been great to see other things happening in town besides just the murder, giving us more locales to imagine and to put the town together in our minds.
The story line moved along very quickly given the shortness of the book. I was able to follow the story line, so it wasn't too quick in that regard, I just wish we had gotten more background information on Christie and Griselda, more information about the killer, just more information in general. That's why I only gave it a 3.5 out of 5 rating. It just needed more.
I'm still looking forward to the second book and hoping that we get more of that missing information then.

Because the book's protagonist is a police detective (Christie Watson), I thought that it might not be too cozy. The book is nice and cozy but sometimes does feature more serious matters, such as discussion of the murder of Christie's mother. I enjoyed the characters, such as Christie and her old friend Grizzy (Griselda). The local detectives were named Cotton and Balle. When Christie mentioned it to them, "cotton ball," they didn't get the joke (or had heard it too many times for it to be funny). Grizzy has a cat named Curly Fries, a real character who's a messy eater and gets into trouble, such as entering the neighbor's house and trying to eat his meal! When Christie was surprised at the name of Grizzy's cat and repeated it back, Grizzy said, "What else would I name her?"
The book cover looks yummy and makes me hungry, although I prefer a bacon cheeseburger. If you order a Mexican Fiesta Burger, the cook will shake his maracas. Cute.
The murder victim was called Loopy Paul! I liked that the book took place in my home state of Ohio.

The Fiesta Burger Murder is a quick, light cozy that I really enjoyed. I thought that it ended a bit abruptly, until I realized that this book is more of a novella and will be followed by a full length sequel. Christie Watson, a Boston homicide cop returns to her home town of Sleepy Creek, Ohio as a result of being placed on sabbatical by her department for being over-zealous in her investigations. She moves in with her best friend Grizzy, but cannot escape her urge to investigate -- in this instance, a body dumped in Grizzy's back yard, as well as her mother's mysterious death, which has kept her away from Sleepy Creek for all these years. The characters are well-developed and likable, with some being downright quirky and humorous. One mystery is solved in this book, but the end leaves you up in the air, so I'm looking forward to the next book in this series to learn more. There are also delicious recipes at the end, including one for The Burger Bar's famous jalapeño burger that I can't wait to try (shake maracas).

Boston Homicide Detective Christie Watson has returned to her hometown to wait out her forced sabbatical leave. Home brings back cruel thoughts of her mother's unsolved murder, but she pushes them aside to spend time with her friend, Griselda, even helping her out in her restaurant in exchange for a place to stay. But when a dead body is found and her friend becomes the main suspect, Chrissie knows she has to investigate on her own...especially when she senses there may be some connection to her mother's cold case. This is the first book in a new series and moves along at a nice pace. There are some colorful characters and Curly Fries, the cat, introduced in the story that help provide a light tone at times. My only complaint is there were some loose ends left unanswered, hopefully to be continued in the next book. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing this advance reading copy.
