Nebraska, The Screenplay by Bob Nelson – a note on this splendid film is at http://realini.blogspot.com/2021/04/o...

10 out of 10

This is an outstanding motion picture, which I have included on the list of my Top 150 Favorites, not that this is such a badge of honor, indeed, this would be the moment to introduce the disclaimer, spoiler alert, warning – this is just part of the Games People Play http://realini.blogspot.com/2013/09/g... a classic by Eric Berne, the lines here are not worth the trouble

Without the usual (now) special effects, superheroes, comics, Nebraska is a monumental motion picture, with fraud at the center of the narrative – something that seems to be the new paradigm in America, where they rate Biden and the ultimate crook at the same level, and they have as series of smaller bandits in the leadership of the Republican party, from Jordan to Taylor Green, Bobert and all, a bunch of weirdoes…

Woody Grant is portrayed by the astounding Bruce Dern, and he is a lot of trouble for his family – his wife is the actress seen in the stupendous About Schmidt, with Jack Nicholson in the leading role, directed by the same Alexander Payne – he drinks too much, gets lost, and furthermore, he has a crazy plan

The hero (sometimes an antihero) is sure he has won a million dollars at the Sweepstakes, and he just needs to travel to Nebraska, before the deadline, and claim his money, only the trip there appears to be an impossibility, he tries to get there somehow, but his spouse would have none of it, and he is angry

He has two sons, David aka Will Forte, and Ross aka Bob Odenkirk, Woody has not been a good father to them, and now they try and prevent him from harming himself, David tries to explain that this Sweepstakes is a scam, but just like the huge phalanges of Trump fans, who believe that evil is actually good, the old man wants the money

Without the scam, research has in fact shown that winning the lottery http://realini.blogspot.com/2013/10/t... does not help much, after a few months of increased happiness levels, the wellbeing levels return to set levels, due to Hedonic Adaptation

Were he to win, the protagonist would just get used with the money, enjoy it briefly, but then see no more benefit from the million…nevertheless, this is just one of the themes, which is so poignant due to the huge deception that seventy million Americans have bought into and they look like they will take the plunge again

One of the most repugnant creatures had told them in 2016 that he will fix everything, ‘they will be tired of winning’, and he does this again, pretending he will end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours – and that could be, but by selling Ukraine, the lands where we live as part of the package to Putin, since the latter has said good things about the idiot, and that is all he cares about, himself – and promising other big wins

Finally, David decides to drive with his father all the way to Nebraska, with the idea that they will get closer to each other, and so he takes the Subaru, they pass by Mount Rushmore, which is nothing spectacular to blasé Woody, who does not want a detour, stops by the side of the road and comments on the fact that the huge monument appears unfinished to him, the only one with clothes is Washington, one is missing an ear…’let’s go’

As they stop in a motel, the father walks out at night, gets drunk, falls and injures his head, an accident which leads to stiches, the doctor saying he should stop in the hospital…however, the plan has changed and they will stay with relatives, which are just another bunch of peculiar folks, with strange views

The cousins – I think this is what they were – ask David about his journey ‘how long did it take’, and he says that they spend two days on the road, for the maybe about one thousand kilometers, which makes the two brothers laugh, repeatedly, they mock this counter performance, so risible, especially when compared to what one did

‘What did you drive, a garbage truck…did you come driving backwards’ and things like that, which somehow show how outré these relatives could be – not that Woody would strike one as the most ‘normal, decent grandfather’ – and then conforming to yours truly this Sense of An Ending http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/03/t... the USA looks like losing leadership…

America is still a dream for hundreds of millions, maybe billions, we can just look at the borders and the multitudes that have done everything to arrive there and try to cross and work there, but Trump is just the effect, symptom of a chronic disease – like in a hospital, we could see with the lineup they have at the top, on the republican side mainly, that the electorate votes for the most ghastly, gruesome, disgusting beings, and that will send the whole beano crashing down – and we depend so much on their power

If China, in cahoots with junior partners, vile nevertheless, like Russia, Iran, North Korea, gets the upper hand, we will all be in deep trouble, to stay calm and positive, look at what they do around their coasts, how they bully all their neighbors, from Japan to India, to the Philippines, and the rest…we have had communism here and know it…

Now for a question, and invitation – maybe you have a good idea on how we could make more than a million dollars with this http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/02/u... – as it is, this is a unique technique, which we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not know how to get the befits from it, other than the exercise per se

As for my role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/r...

Some favorite quotes-

From To The Heritage:

‘Fiction is infinitely preferable to real life...As long as you avoid the books of Kafka or Beckett, the everlasting plot of fiction has fewer futile experiences than the careless plot of reality...Fiction's people are fuller, deeper, cleverer, more moving than those in real life…Its actions are more intricate, illuminating, noble, profound…There are many more dramas, climaxes, romantic fulfillment, twists, turns, gratified resolutions…Unlike reality, all of this you can experience without leaving the house or even getting out of bed…What's more, books are a form of intelligent human greatness, as stories are a higher order of sense…As random life is to destiny, so stories are to great authors, who provided us with some of the highest pleasures and the most wonderful mystifications we can find…Few stories are greater than Anna Karenina, that wise epic by an often foolish author…’

‚parturiunt montes, nascetur ridiculus mus’

“From Monty Python - The Meaning of Life...Well, it's nothing very special...Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations.”
