“The War of Jokes and Riddles” part one! Don’t miss this extra-sized anniversary issue! In his own words, Bruce Wayne narrates a harrowing, never-before-told story of the Dark Knight’s greatest failure…and the horrors it unleashed! In the spirit of YEAR ONE and THE LONG HALLOWEEN, prepare to see a side of Batman you've never seen before—get in on the ground floor of a classic Batman epic in the making!
This has all the potential to be epic. A story from the early years of Batman. The Joker and The Riddler will fight each other. All the villains will choose sides between the two. Fighting will be everywhere in Gotham, and Batman will be trying to keep it all together. I wish I could tell you where Batman Rebirth runs rank among other Batman runs over the years, but this is alien territory for me. If this is not top 10 though that would be crazy, imagine what other great stories are out there. I am also not sure if the current recommended entry to Batman is because of ease of access, or because that literally Scott Snyder and Tom King are the best two Batman runs ever!
I have been hearing some good things about this War of Jokes and Riddles Batman story, so I set aside my DC Metal issues that are yet to be read for this.
The premise of this war between The Riddler and The Joker is very intriguing. Joker can't laugh so he must kill Bats and The Riddler must stop him from doing so, that's more or less the root of it all.
It may be treading some shallow water, but the War of Jokes and Riddles really offers some entertaining Bat-villain civil war that it might really be worth reading. So absurdity aside, I am giving this a shot.
Riddler is now buff, eh? Though I would have preferred the slim guy, it's interesting to see how Tom King envisions him.
Loved the set up in this issue. I was afraid that everything would be very confusing because I dropped this series but I found this a great jumping on point once again.
So excited to see what the Riddler and Joker have planned for Gotham and Batman 🦇🦇🦇
This seems like an interesting story, but this felt pretty short for the first issue. Apparently this is going to be 8 issues long, so maybe that won't matter as much in the end.
This issue was incredibly awesome. A side of Batman I'd never seen before, and the art was absolutely beautiful, I loved it. I'm in for the new arc. Can't wait for the next issue.
This is very good and all, but the only thing I truly wanna know is: how did the Riddler survive this?! I'm not sure even Bruce could have pulled this one off!
Awesome start for what look like a very promising series with Batman, The Joker and The Riddler. One hero, two great villains. Can't what to read the next one!
Wait... let me get this straight? The guards let Riddler go as he’s reciting the names of their families instead of putting a bullet in him? WTF? So basically he can never be caught as long as he knows all the guards family members names? I call bullshit! 🤔 And the Joker just shoots a bunch of cops... again... and strolls off (no running) in broad daylight and the other cops don’t notice him? Then of course Joker gets away from Batman even though Batman is quicker? Riddler gets shot point blank but hey... everything is groovy.... *sigh... I don’t know, it’s like beating a dead horse I’m sure, but I don’t like the beginning of this story arc at all... Honestly, I’m tired of DC making the Joker into some kind of god and Batman is just a blunt instrument instead of using his brains, and the cops always just look like idiots!
I'm not much of a single issue reader, but I've started picking up one or two issues every week or so depending on my interests. This was amazing. It's pretty much just a prologue and sets up what's to come. I'm hyped. It clearly defines the riddler's and joker's motivation in their upcoming war and makes each of their characters distinct. The Selina Kyle thing is slightly acknowledged here since I know some people were worried about that. I can't wait to see what direction Tom King takes this story; there's a lot of potential. Kinda salty that it didn't come with a digital code because I would love to have shared this. If you're on the fence of picking this up, I would say do it.
Batman #25 gets “The War of Jokes and Riddles” off to a solid start, as despite not quite matching the lofty standards of recent issues, there’s still plenty to enjoy throughout. The symbolic way the two villains are introduced is also sure to captivate fans new and old, with the creative team giving us plenty of reasons to return for more.
Not the worst writing out there. Tom King can do much worse than this. At least, atmosphere is there and there is no mood killing panels. The story, though, is boring so far. Feels more like "let's bring popular villains without any real excuses". If you did read Batman comics before, there's a huge chance you'll just fall asleep. Since you've read such stuff for many times before.
This is the launch of a brand new story arc. As you can probably tell, it involves both the Joker and the Riddler. This is the first time either have appeared in the Rebirth. Will they take partners or enemies? One thing is certain though. They both hate Batman and the war is on.
This issue was surprisingly underwhelming. The Riddler's conversation with the Joker wasn't that interesting. And this next arc is something that already happened in the past, apparently? Bruce is telling Selina the story, but I'd honestly just wanna see more of the immediate aftermath of the proposal.
HIGHLY annoyed that I have to wait for the true aftermath of Bruce's proposal to hear about yet another Year One (ish) story, but whatever. Hate how fragmented King's storytelling is and also can't stand Bruce's nobody understands me bullshit.
This starts out really interesting. You can really see whats in Batmans heart and its not easy for him but he chases what he know he really wants. Great issue. Cant wait for the rest of this story.
I'm pretty impressed with this series! I've been complaining that most superhero stories now are just recycled and only done because publishers know they sell. I'm sure at some point The Riddler and The Joker have gotten into some kind of fight, but this just feels a little fresher and has an interesting perspective. I'm curious to see where it goes and whose side I'll be leaning towards.
The War Of Jokes and Riddles part- 1.A phenomenal start to a 8 part epic. This was so damn good im reading it for a second time in less then a few weeks of initially reading it.The Joker and The Riddler are going to war and Gotham will never be the same.
