This series is just so fun!

It's got those priceless comedy relief moments, those relaxing slice-of-life moments and those brilliant action moments. It's got 'em all! And I love the balance of ingredients too. Just when you need a break from the intensity and/or possible dullness of a match, Haruichi throws in something that either makes me laugh out loud - slapping my sister repeatedly in all my amusement - or sit up and gasp,"Wow, that's so cool!", which gets me all excited for the next chapters again.

What I also love is the diversity of teams and teamplay. I really appreciate how Karasuno aren't the only protagonists and they don't antagonise everyone who plays differently to them, or preach and sneer at those who have an independent style, like *chokes, coughs* Sei-- *continues coughing hard*.
I just really like this manga, you know? I think it does justice to Volleyball as a sport. It feels real and cool and it's totally easy to understand even for those who don't play.

Good job Furudate, old bean!

VIDEO REVIEW HERE: https://youtu.be/yfu9m4KfAZg

Today was a really exhausting day making it a little bit harder to really appreciate this volume. I had to go read almost all of it over again when I got to the last two chapters because I had completely blanked on almost all that happened except in those first two chapters.

I definitely think it was a me thing and not "the writing was bad" because WOW! Seeing Tsukki really start to shine in his "new role" got ME so fired up as a reader! It's incredible (and scary LOL) to see how much he is thinking at all times. Like Asahi said, he really is one step ahead and we see this all the way to end (which was equally epic)!

With this volume I came back to not really liking Shiratorizawa again. LOL! Though Goshiki is an absolute cinnamon role who needs to be protected at all costs on their team! LOL! I think some of this stems from REALLY disliking what Ushijima said to Hinata, though that happened much later. It really wasn't until we see the backstory of Shirabu that I was like "tch, I really DON'T like this team." I think that's a really good reflection on Furudate's writing because Shiratorizawa IS a very good team. I just can't stand how good these guys are though and their self-confidence and their overall battle concept. (Though I do want to add Shirabu is really interesting as a setter because he is so opposite of Kageyama.)

Some excellent moments that I absolutely LOVED is when Hinata puts Ennoshita's words into practice with blocking, but does it in his own unique way. I would follow this up by him and Tanka's awesome blocking moment. Gave me chills, man! Just so so so good! Love these two guys and really the whole team!

Ooo, yeah seeing Nishinoya in the zone was breathtaking. Readers definitely know he is a super libero but see him going head to head with the super ace even more in this is just so captivating. GO NOYA!!

I love how the tables are slowly turning and can't wait to see what happens next! Let's go Karasono!

Vol. 14 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 15 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 16 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 17 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 18 ★★★☆☆

This is a grueling match to begin with and the constant commentary from people on the sidelines certainly doesn't help. It's too much and breaks momentum. I wish the focus is on the rallies instead.

Tremendo team, tremendo manga.

Chau, sigo leyendo.

This counts as my review for the whole Haikyuu!! manga

”You don’t win alone.
That’s just how it is.”

READ FOR: best character developments and themes that I have ever encountered
READING LEVEL: Level 1-3 out of 5

*All of my reviews are as spoiler-free as possible unless stated otherwise*

I don’t think I’ll ever have enough words to express how much I love this manga and anime series but I’ll try anyway. But I just need to make it known that this has changed my view in anime and manga forever. I caught up with this manga in the last 30 or so chapters but I won’t say much to avoid spoilers... but it was crazy.

It made me laugh, cry, fall in love, think, and honestly... what else do you need in a series? I can keep going on and on about this series but honestly I think you should just read it for yourself. I really don't think you'll regret it.

When someone asks me what the plot is, honestly, all I can say is “they play volleyball” HAHAHA… but it’s so much more than that.

description

PLOT: ★★★★★
The plot was so well thought of from the very beginning and when I re-read the manga I can’t believe the amount of foreshadowing Furudate actually placed. My mind was so blown… I just. No words. I am seriously in love.

ART STYLE: ★★★★★
The art style… *chef’s kiss* especially in the later arcs. There were so many matches but even then Furudate never failed to leave me breathless at each one.

description

CHARACTERS: ★★★★★
The character development here is THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. that I have ever come across. I fell in love with the so many characters in this series that I did not even think that was possible.

The character relationships... the character dynamics... their mindsets... they are all so perfectly well done and realistic GAHHHH I've said this so many time throughout this review BUT THEY JUST MADE ME FALL IN LOVE SO EASILY. I can't pick my favourite one but hinata and kageyama just hold a special place in my heart.

This connects to the themes but my favourite thing that was done with the characters here was that each one of them embodied a theme or a message that the author wanted to get across. Those are spoilers so I won’t really talk about it but just know that it was one of the main reasons that made me go so crazy about this series.

*cough* hinata kageyama atsumu sakusa bokuto kita noya ushijima tendou tsukki suga kenma kuroo *cough* +++

Note: if you think this series is focused on only 1 team... you're in it for A RIDEEEEEE

description
I'm getting chills just looking at and remembering these panels ^^

THEMES: ★★★★★
Honestly I basically thought the themes were just gonna be “teamwork” and “friendship”… while it is all that, Furudate sensei was able to make it even deeper.

I think the one that was focused on the most was “It’s not always about winning, it’s about growth”. But there were also so many smaller things that lead up to that bigger point: (1) we get our strength from others, (2) but you also need to make yourself dependable, (3) there is always room for improvement, (4) working hard is good but overworking yourself isn’t, (5) you are built on the small things you do everyday, (6) an ace's back should be an inspiration to your teammates (hi bokuto), (7)+++

The way I wrote it was very straight to the point but I was amazed at how Furudate tackled the so many messages that I received from this series.

description

PACING: ★★★★★
THE TIMING. OF EVERYTHING. JUST MAKES SENSE.

It’s so realistic that I want to cry. (I actually already did… a lot of times.)

description

PAGE TURNER: ★★★★★

You should understand that I made this review weeks after I finally calmed down about this series cuz I was really going crazy about it HAHAHA if you have finished this series too or met me while I was reading this, you know what I’m talking about ;)

I'll keep this series close to my heart until the grave. You cannot convince me otherwise.

Finally Saltyshima has his big moment! Finally volleyball is not just a "club" anymore. I know the manga and anime inside out, but the panel were he realises, this is fun, always hits deep and right in the feels.

Great volume, some of the panels were just pure love (how can you do anatomy so good?) and had me almost screaming enthusiastically. The comedy was also good and on point as always.

Volume 19 continues the Shiratorizawa vs Karasuno game. I continue to love these books along with the anime I have seen. I love the progression and game development we see with Tsukishima and Nishinoya in this volume, it’s awesome to see everyone playing at their best in the world of Haikyu!! The rallies are enjoyable to watch, and the characters are fun to see flourish. Cannot wait to see the results of the finals of the Haikyu tournament. Again, an overall 5 star read.
P.S. Adored the little side story with my favourite boys in the series, Bokuto and Akaashi.

“An individual’s ability, height and power... If those were all it took to be strong, then the competition would be much simpler. But because it isn’t like that, it has more implications. But beacuse it isn’t like that, it has more meaning.”

(karasuno to tsukki: hey king you’ve done it again. constantly raising the bar for us all and doing it flawlessly. we’d say we’re surprised but we know who you are. we’ve seen it up close and personal. boy, you make us so proud. and we love you)

Even if most of this volume had turned out to be sub-par, I'd probably give it five stars just for The Moment at the beginning. (Yes, I did just capitalize that. The Moment deserves capitalization.)
But the rest of the volume was great, too, by the way.

Favorite moments:

-Tsukishima being the cool cat that he is.
-Yamaguchi's imitation of Hinata's imitation of Ushiwaka.
-The determination Hinata shows to keep fighting despite being short. (Shorties unite!)

“But if…just if…that moment comes for you…that will be the moment volleyball hooks you.”

4 stars - Tsukki’s development here really was what made me like his character a whole lot more. Still don’t like Shiratorizawa’s coach :|

Go go go Tsukki!!! Love his volleyball moment - just one point!

I wish there were a lot more scenes on the rallies, but I also understand that it can get quite stressful. Nakakaloka, nahook ako dito ha. Hahaha!

Love Bokuto's cameos, and as always, Kageyama's a favorite.
