Complicated Hearts Duet #1

Complicated Hearts

Rate this book
Breslin —I was in love with Asher Holden the moment I saw him...and I knew nothing would ever be the same.
Then he hurt me. He wrecked me. He ruined me.
I spent three years putting myself together—fixing what he broke.
I never thought I'd see him again after that day.
I was counting on it.
Little did I know—life had other plans...and things were going to become a lot more complicated.

Asher —I finally know who I am. I own it, I embrace it...I'm no longer afraid.
I live my life with no regrets now, because I've learned my lesson—the hard way.
I thought I had it all figured out.
But then my past collides with my present...and things become complicated.
Turns out I don't really know myself after all.

Landon — My life was all mapped out.
I knew exactly what direction I was heading in—I didn't have time for any roadblocks or obstacles.
Then I meet her.
And him.
Now, my heart is split right down the middle.
She controls the rhythm. He controls the melody.
Complicated doesn't even begin to cover it...and there's only one way this can end.

This story is for mature readers only. This duet contains language and explicit content featuring m/f, m/m, m/f/m.

Trigger
This story is strange and unconventional. It's everything you hate. That's the only warning I can offer you.

4 Scarred Soul Stars ⭐

This is the story of three young lovers Breslin, Asher and Landon. Three young people who have known hardship, abuse, inadequacy and now heartbreak. But fate is fickle and where they believed their stories ended is actually the beginning.

Told from all their points of view, the story begins with Landon, a school nerd who has been used for his intelligence and what would benefit others. But all his hard work will reap the rewards.

We then meet Breslin and Asher, high school sweethearts who have existed in each other's orbit. Completely devoted until hard truths are revealed and the love they once had is now ugly and irreparable.

"I finally understood at that moment why people called it a crush.

Because it's that glimmer of hope that crushes you in the end."

Three separate lives and three different paths that eventually collide when they find themselves at the same university together. They are unknowingly bound. What they knew about their sexuality will be tested, and whether they can embrace what they are discovering will determine the outcome.

"I'll never be able to change who I am and the fact that I'm sexually attracted to both girls and guys. - I'm going to end up alone.

Women will always be uncomfortable because I like dick, and men will never trust me because I also like pussy."

I realize I am being vague but this is a love triangle that I'm hoping will eventually evolve into a healthy relationship between the three of them. But at this stage betrayal and anger looms like a dark cloud.

"She captivates me.
Frustrates me.
And you, you fascinate me.
Complicate me."

description

This story was told in three povs all leading up to a cliffhanger ending. Next book should be very interesting to see where Breslin stands and/or if this ends with menage relationship etc.

"It ends here. Because I finally realize that just because I wasn't meant to have a future with him, it doesn't mean I'm not permitted to have it with someone else."

There's an elephant in the room. And it's balanced on a razor thin wire.
Either way it falls, the grass gets trampled.
Such is the dilemma of Asher Holden.
He's so young, his life going places. His career well on a golden path. when Gods spit on him and his life upends on itself, almost overnight. His life is balanced on a thin line demarcating his heart and brain. His balls are in a vice, his heart is in a grip.
I'd just turned 18 and officially became a man, but I didn't know who I was. And it was honest to God, the scariest thing I'd ever encountered in my life.
There's Breslin and then there's........
Read the story to find out about it !!!
It's an unusual story. Something very complicated. Like a sailor's knot. The more Asher tries to unravel his life, the more he gets snagged in. Breslin a sweet girl. Her heart taken by Asher. And though it gets broken too hard, she never gets a piece of it back.
The story goes at a very steady pace. The characters, esp Asher and Landon are mesmerising ..
Never saw their story evolving. Kyle, I could seriously kill right now ! . I'd have loved to hear about Kyle's story more. What happened when he reneged on his part of the deal...yanno.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The feels were really strong and I enjoyed reading hot AF scenes. Never knew I would ;)
In the progression of the story, Asher develops the most. He is stuck between a rock and a hard place and he does his best to survive. He's a bit of a rascal though.. a lovely, heart capturing, smirking rascal no doubt.
Cannot wait for the next part now !!

Complicated Hears
By Ashley Jade
4.5 Stars

Well my goodness, what a wicked web Ashley Jade has woven for us in this book 1 of the Complicated Hearts series.

Breslin is in love with Asher Holden. The boy who stole her heart by standing up for her. He molded her into the girlfriend of the year. Till the day came when he ruined her… Moving on in life, she has a steady ‘boyfriend’, she is in college, she is trying to move on. But at the same time…he is still in her every thought.

Asher is caught up in a wicked plot. He has to play his cards right to get through it. But at what cost? He has hit an all time low and now is suffering another blow. Will he ever catch the break he deserves?

Landon confessed his love to her. Yet when the new student he needs to tutor comes into the picture, what are these new feelings?

What a rollercoaster ride this one is! On one hand, you are voting for this story to go one way…. Then a Y in the road and you are going in the opposite direction… The ending though… OMG!!! When does book 2 come out? I need it like right now!!! Because clearly we are at a pass…. Will it end how it is or is the story just beginning? Great job Woman!!! You sucked me in and left me wanting more.

I lowkey feel sorry for Breslin (h). She is like the third wheel in the MM story. Pretty useless.

Even though I normally don't go for MMF since I don't harbor any particular affection for sharing in romance, I found this duet interesting and entertaining enough to finish. Nothing to go crazy over.

It is stated somewhere in the blurb that the story is "strange and unconventional", but I think finding a "conventional" love story is a true fit nowadays. So there's that. 😂

Unexpected, emotional, and effing brilliant! Complicated Hearts is mind blowing and unlike any other book I’ve read. I sat in one spot for hours and stayed up half the night because I could not put my kindle down! Once again Ashley Jade has rocked my world!

 photo exceptional.gif

Here’s the breakdown: Breslin Rae and Asher Holden have the perfect teenage romance. He’s the center of her world and he loves her unlike anyone else in her life. However, he has a secret that tears them apart. After three years, enter Landon. Landon is sweet, sexy, and over the top in love with Breslin. Unfortunately, her past collides with her future and make things extremely Complicated.

What I loved: The concept. This book is like nothing else I’ve read! I had no idea what to expect, but Complicated Hearts would have exceeded those expectations. It’s jarring, raw, and emotional. I gasped, groaned, and felt my heart expand. It’s a roller coaster of emotions.
The characters. I loved them all. Yes, even Asher! They’re flawed and true to life. I can empathize with each of them and they burrowed into my heart.
The writing. I’ve come to expect great writing from this author and she delivers yet again. The setup and flow all work well. Plus umm, all the sexy times.

Overall, this is another fantastic read from Ashley Jade. It’s angsty, original, sexy, and emotional. You will feel all the feels folks. Recommended for readers who enjoy MF, MFM, and MM. YES...all in the same book.

I seriously enjoyed book 1 of the Complicated Hearts Duet. Talk about flawed characters whom I loved. Asher and Breslin were great together before it all went to hell. Him struggling with his sexuality and his growing friendship with Landon were my highlights of this book. Damn how I love Landon that sexy musician slash nerd. How he also had to face his growing attraction to Asher was wonderfully written. His relationship with Breslin was great too. I have no idea how it will all go down in the sequel when the truth comes out between the three of them.
Book 1 lays the perfection foundation for this story and these complicated relationships. This book was an awesome surprise.

Overall Opinion: This was just alright for me. I was excited and jumped right into a duet just because of the raving reviews and really just the premise alone 😏. Sadly, it kind of fell flat. I liked the connection between the Hs but my connection to the h and the connection between the h and the Hs was lackluster. I’m hoping that will pick up in the next book. I also thought the dramatic elements were all a little OTT and even eye roll inducing a few times . But, oh well! On to the next…

*WARNING* the spoiler tags below are mostly for BIG spoilers, so please click them at your own risk of ruining the books 😉

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Breslin, Asher, and Landon’s story. Breslin and Asher are high school sweethearts that break up in a big way when Asher confesses he might be gay. Years later, Breslin is still unwilling to fully give her heart to her new boyfriend, Landon, because of the damage from Asher and she ends up leaving to Europe for a school program. Landon is a tutor that gets assigned to the new hotshot quarterback, Asher, with neither of them knowing their connection through Breslin. There is some past baggage they all have to work through, some sexy times, and some conflict…and this ends with a cliffhanger for the final book in the duet.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Breslin, Asher, and Landon’s POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I thought it flowed well and I never skimmed.

Instalove: No, but instant connection (between h and H1)… I think, but we don’t get much of the beginning of their relationship (or the h and H2). The Hs take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H (Hero) rating: 3.5 stars. Asher. He was kind of a mess! I’m hoping he gets his act together more in the second book.

H2 (Hero #2) rating: 4 stars. Landon. I liked him. I appreciated how he cared about others and was comfortable with himself.

h (heroine) rating: 3 stars. Breslin. She was just okay. I don’t feel like we really got to know her that much.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. There is some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: Yes

Cheating: Yes

Separation: Yes, between the b and H1

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ends on a cliffy but the next book, Complicated Hearts, is available now.

Safety: This one is probably Not Safe for most safety gang readers

5 Complicated Hearts

I'm not a typical fan of m/m, m/m/f, or m/f/m stories, and when I first heard that Ashley Jade was writing one of these stories that possibly involves all three of these, I was concerned to say the least. Not that she shouldn't write something like that, but that I might not enjoy it.

I shouldn't have doubted her for a second! This is how the New Adult genre should be done, Ashley Jade style! And honestly she has really outdone herself. Including this one, I have read six of her books, and Complicated Hearts is hands down her best!

Breslin, Asher, and my boy Landon will own your heart from the moment you're introduced to them. The complicated web Ashley weaves between these characters will have you reacting in so many ways. One minute you hate a character (cough, cough, Asher), and the next your heart feels like it's going to explode when you feel everything the character has experienced. And that's exactly what Ashley has done with this story. She pulls you in. She makes you feel. To the point you have no idea whose team you should be on: #TeamLandon, #TeamBreslin or #TeamAsher.

I laughed, I cried, I yelled, and I'm not gonna lie there were times that had me fanning myself off. While I'm still not a fan of the above mentioned genres, I am a fan of Complicated Hearts. It's superbly written, and the characters are flawed but somehow they're perfect.

And then when you think you can't take anymore of this story, she hits you with that ending. And wow, what a ending it is. Or is it the beginning?

Bravo Ashley Jade! I can't wait for book 2.

While I really loved the set up, premise, and characters in this book...

I really don't understand the author's decision to turn this story into a two book duet. This did not at all feel like book one of a duet. This felt like an unfinished story. Like the first quarter of a story that randomly ends before things get going. This book had a beginning, and maybe the beginnings of a middle and no end. Maybe this book could have worked if it was a prequel novella because it was such a weird choice for this to be its own book. I really don't understand why this duet wasn't just one book?

I don't feel like I'm properly able to rate this book until after I finish book 2 so I am going to wait. I really like where the story is going - just not sure why this was its own book?

UPDATE: After finishing book 2, I decided to rate this one 3 stars. It's not a bad book - but it is a lot of set up without a lot of actual story.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh that was so totally worth all the waiting. All the teasing that Ashley likes to do. Ugh. I'm so emotional and torn up. FUCK THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!!

Not only was this a hot as hell, and angsty as hell new adult read it was a boundary pusher. I absolutely loved the fact that even though this story made me laugh at some points, it also made me emotional and uncomfortable at times. It was just so good. It was unexpected, and the characters do not fit into the little boxes your mind wants to put them in.

 photo 0F2D5B4C-9325-4FE8-97F8-1B358BC9F08C_zpsfick6q4a.jpg

I think Ashley did an amazing job writing all the different POV's and really digging deep into the emotions that each character was feeling. Even though I wanted to be mad sometimes, I honestly couldn't. Even when a character was acting out and like a douche, I got why. I understood his actions. Maybe they weren't the right way to handle things, but they were his way. I know that's vague but... I don't want to spoil anything.

Emotional. Hot. Unique. New Adult done in a way I never expected. Such an amazing read! Can't wait for book two :)

Why TF is there a heroine in this book??? She hardly has any page time. Almost the entire book is about both heroes falling for each other while fucked up over her. There’s not enough interaction between the h and either hero for me to feel the depth of the connection that keeps fucking up both men’s lives.

Their fall is fucking EPIC.

Seriously.

I’m a little pissed.

I would have much rather read about the H/H HEA than include a chick who’s BARELY IN THE FUCKING BOOK.

Fuck. That.

I’m livid she’s even a thing on their radar.

On to book 2…

DUDE! Complicated is the perfect title for this piece of crazy. If you follow my reviews, I don't usually read NA, I actually don't read non-dark all that much. However, I was taken advantage of, and I loved every lick. Suck. Bite.

M/M M/F <- If I have to warn you of that, don't read my review. Period.

So, I fucking love triangles. If I'm reading a non-dark, then it's usually a triangle or angsty read. I love angsty reads. I love that feeling of heartbreak, yet hoping for love. This book blows away all my wants. It blew away all my needs. It gave me all, the everything. I shit you not, I was shaking for the last twenty percent. I was reading like a typewriter. I had no fucks for real life and humped myself in the middle.

Say you like something different in life. Say you love to read something on the wild side. Ashley Jade paints a picture of pure want. She makes music with the characters. Each one is essential, but the song remains simple without all the notes.

Complicated is easy in this situation. Forgiving is going to be the hardest. I cannot wait to see what’s to come. Bravo to the author for making everything right and convincing me that all that glitters is gold. Because we all remain the same. Until we don't.

This was hot mess in a good way. Two young men are struggling with love, life and identity while both are in love with a woman.
Asher has so much on his plate its painful. Colton is trying to help him while Breslyn is on another continent for school.
Well written romance with lots of steamy romance.
Thanks @shesaidyestobooks for the recommendation. I loved it❤

Title: Complicated Hearts
Author: Ashley Jade
Category: Romance
Series or Standalone: Series, book #1
POV: Various PoVs
Plot: 4
Characters: 4
Scorching Level: 4
HEA: Um... Not telling

Things will get complicated! Yowza! This book is a hot mess!!! I have read a lot of extreme, dark and risque books so nothing in this book shocked me. That cannot be said for every reader though, so if you don't enjoy triangles or M/M reads or complicated storylines, then this might not be for you.
For those of you who love messy situations and characters that will frustrate you, then jump on this ride! It will be a rough one.
Breslin, Asher and Landon have entered a deep rabbit hole and I am very curious to see how they will untangle this situation.
What happens when the boy you love is not who you thought he was? What if he was hiding something that had the power to destroy your heart and self-esteem?
Breslin has been burned from love before and when Landon enters her life she is reluctant to get in deep. She pulls away but she never expects the consequences.
Landon is our gorgeous nerd and his heart belongs to Breslin...until Asher comes into his life like a hurricane. Attraction blooms and Landon isn't sure what the enigmatic Asher wants or what his full story is. He only knows what everyone else on campus knows.
Three hearts, one secret and EVERYTHING will become complicated.
I loved how fast paced the book was. It flowed really well.
I loved Asher and Landon. They made the book for me. I didn't connect with Breslin but hopefully, the next book will give me a chance to get to know her better. If you like unique books and triangles, then read this!!! You will not regret it.

So this book had me from page one. Talk about being instantly invested!! I was hooked by chapter one, tearing up by chapter two, bawling by chapter three and in love by chapter four. This book had absolutely everything I love...EVERYTHING. Angst that tore at my heart, romance that made me swoon, heartbreak that had me crying and sex that made me...

It's the characters, all three of them, that make this book spectacular. Breslin is every girl who falls in love and every woman with a broken heart. I loved her and I got her. I didn't love every choice she made, but in the context of her life...I believed her reasons. Landon is AWESOME. Just every good thing you want your hero to be. Smart, caring, talented and compassionate (also hot AF). He is solid and strong and steady and makes people around him want to be better. Then there is Asher. Asher is my kryptonite. He is everything that makes me fall in love with a book boyfriend. He is a beautiful, broken, confused and sad. He is every boy that lost hope and lost his way and desperately needs a second chance. He is a man in search of redemption and OMG do I love a good redemption story.

This story is heart-wrenching and beautiful, sad and redeeming, completely messed up and totally logical. It just feels like it couldn't have played out any other way. The love stories are breath-taking (like I literally caught my breath), the mistakes are tragic and the future is unclear...but I can't wait to read it.

Ashley Jade is a relatively new author to me... but damn, the girl played my emotions like virtuoso. My expectations were HUGE!! Consider them completely exceeded.

Wow. Talk about heart-breakingly complicated.
Complicated Hearts is, as the author repeatedly warned, nothing you would expect. And to be honest, it's what makes this book so outstanding.

The blurb is perfectly written, it does make sense, yet it is just the tip of the iceberg, but it gives you just what you need to know. This book is all about love, true love, love that you can't deny, you can't fight, love that you must treasure because it's so precious...

I got hooked to these love stories immediately, utterly captivated by both the characters and Ashley Jade's writing.

I can't tell you much about this story because there's so much happening that needs to be experienced.
But I can tell you I fell in love with each character, I fell for Asher's vulnerable yet cocky persona; I fell for Landon's beautiful and artistic soul; I fell for Breslin's strength and her soft heart. They all stole a piece of my heart and I wished nothing for them but to find their happiness.

Full of events, this book ellicted in me so many emotions. Gosh, some scenes brought tears to my eyes, by the descriptions alone. Those scenes, I swear, I didn't read them, I lived them.
I urge you to read this beauty.

The warning of this book says it's unconventional and the statement fits with what's in the book. While it's most certainly NOT everything I hated. I had some issues but there are so minor that I won't even elaborate.

I think all you need to know before reading Complicated Hearts is first that it's a duet so you won't have the full story right away. It does end with a cliffy, one I've seen coming so it was bearable. After you need to be prepared to be fully surprised by all things happening in the book. I thought I knew but really I didn't. The dynamic of each relationship was really well done. I wanted more flashbacks or needed to learn more about their past to fully see why the different relationships were so deep. But I get where all three are coming from.

At the beginning while reading I had to remember that Breslin & Asher are 18 and the way she acted was probably because she was young. Seeing her still in the same state three years after was a little disconcerting because I'm more open minded but at the same time it wasn't that much of importance. At least for now it's not.

I absolutely adored Asher. I'm on his team all the way! And Landon... *swoon* yeah I'm into both guys! Because their characters was much more and better develops. I wanted to hug them both all the time. Maybe Asher more because of what he's been through but then Landon is just the type of guy you want in your life, as a friend or as a lover, he's just the guy that you need to have around because his presence is comforting and supportive.

Even if some insta-feeling appear in the book, Asher's fondness was sweet to witness. The guy deserved to be loved and to feel loved. His life could have been easy but it's not. He never really had a choice, never really had the pleasure to live his life the way he want and I really hope he will find his peace in the second book.

I'm happy to know we don't have to wait to long to have the ending of their story. I know there's a long way before everything is settle but I can wait and hope their HEA will be for them all together.

Although I've got Ashley Jades books on my kindle waiting to be read I decided my first read would be this one & I'm so happy I waited.

Asher was Breslins saviour. He showed her what love, caring and happiness was. That is until he shattered her heart completely. Three years later we have Landon the school nerd who finds himself tutoring Asher. As things start getting complicated can these characters move on from the past? Of course they can't. Ashley Jade has written this so it's gonna get very complicated.

As the author says this story is strange and unconventional. If you don't like m/m or m/f/m then give this a miss. However if you like different then grab some chocolate & get stuck right in.

I really enjoyed this story. I read this pretty quickly I didn't want to put it down & needed to see what was gonna happen between the characters.
A new to me author who likes to write outside of the box.
I'm really looking forward to the second part of this story. It's gonna get complicated:)

Talk about complicated!

This book is a mess of complications, and I can't even start to say how much!
But the truth is that I couldn't stop reading either...

At some point, I loved and hated all of them! First it was Asher... He pissed me off first and he's the one who's still pissing me off... But i started to understand a bit of his mindset.

Then it was Breslin... I pitied her after the way Asher did the things at the beginning, but then I hated how she left things with Landon.

And last of all to pisses me off was Landon and his weak love....

But although this looks like a negative review, this book was exactly what I wanted... A MMF story full of flawed characters and complicated hearts!

This first book was just an introduction to their connection... And now that the three of them are reaaaally connected, I can't wait to see the even messier way things will become.

Love wants what it wants, there's no stopping it. It's complicated....no truer words have ever been spoken. Once again, the Author weaves her magic in a totally different type of story, yet as always, leaves me breathless with her consistent vivid and emotional imagery, and fantastic storytelling abilities. 3 characters, each relatable, likeable, and REAL. It was like watching a movie in my head filled with angst, drama, heart-wrenching emotions, it's all laid out beautifully, and crafted with unbelievable perfection to allow the reader to escape fully to the lives of these 3 characters. The Author never fails to drag me happily by my heartstrings, finding the deeper meanings behind the words that always stay with me long after reading THE END. I'm not sure what will come with the next book, or who I'm rooting for, but I guarantee it will be explosive no matter what. The Author does broken, lovable, flawed characters like no other, and I LIVE for them. The butterflies and anticipation of what's to come will have me anxiously awaiting the conclusion of the story unlike I have ever read before. Don't miss it!!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!

Holy crap!!! If I could give this more than 5 stars I would in a heartbeat! I am so blown away by this book, I'm trying very hard to find the words to convey just how incredibly AWESOME it was but I can’t!

Ashley took me on an emotional rollercoaster with every turn of the page here. The storyline was so well written and tastefully done. There were moments I could almost hear Landon’s music and feel the things the characters were feeling. Add to that the heat level that nearly burned my Kindle 🫠 this was incredibly effing awesome! From page one I was hooked.

I am so excited for the next book. I'm not sure what will come with the next book, or who I'm rooting for, or maybe they don’t have to choose at all! Hint hint, author Ashley Jade! Give us unconventional 😜 but regardless what’s coming ahead I know it will be explosive no matter what! 😮‍💨

3.5 " College work is kicking my ass but I'll still read books and write reviews" stars🤚.

He was my fixation, my neurosis...and ultimately, my demise.

💗This book was an ah-mazing experience! The intensity was high and the emotions were swirling all around in pretty much every scene.

💗I especially loved the chemistry and development between Landon and Asher. Not only was it panty-melting hot to read, it was also heart-stoppingly beautiful. ♥️✨

💗Breslin and Asher were cute and tragic together. Gah, I loved to witness their high school scenes.....they were disgustingly and nauseatingly in love and I was smiling through the whole of it.

💗My fav is Landon. He's just a sweetheart and I wanted to dive into the book to just hug him. Plus tattoos!!!🔥🔥

💗I really wanted Breslin to come to her senses regarding Landon (who could pass up that gorgeous specimen of a human?!! ) but the way it turned out at last was good too. Also heartbreaking but hey ... who's keeping tabs, right?! 😏

📌Gonna go dive into the next book right now cuz all the potential emotional intensity is practically screaming for me to come and read it. ✌️
