I'm the villain in most romances.
I'm a thief that steals happily ever afters.
Except unlike most romances love doesn't conquer me, I conquer it.
I've stolen countless women from unsuspecting men.
Gotten my one night with them.
And then watched the heartbreak that occurs in my wake.
Love doesn't survive once I enter the picture, if it ever existed at all.
Although, stealing Sloane might be my greatest challenge of all.

Asher is a villain trying to a put a horrible life behind him by doing the only two things he knows to do: surf and steal. Sloane is an angel that runs a charity helping children needing a fresh start. Asher will do anything to have her. There is just one problem...she's about to marry another man.

The setting in Hawaii makes this one a delight, and it’s also where our bad boy surfer, Asher steals the hearts of women that already belong to another. Then he throws them away without a second thought. That is, until he meets Sloane and she steals the heart he didn’t even know he had – and shows him how it feels to have your heart broken into smithereens.

Sloane is somewhat misunderstood. She’s strong-willed and independent. She works helping kids at risk in getting their lives on track. She’s also engaged to be married to Wes. While she appears to be a good girl on the outside and one that everyone loves, is there something darker lurking deep inside herself that she keeps hidden?

Of course, a little matter of an engagement to be married won’t stand in Asher’s way or the plans he has for her. But Sloane is not going to make it easy for him. She turns the tables on Asher and he must use his best bag of tricks to win this girl’s heart.

There are some unexpected betrayals and lies that surprise and intrigue. Sloane has her own bag of tricks and revenge to serve cold to Asher. Not going to say much more about their story because, like the saying goes, it’s better to go in blindly and embrace the feelings and emotions all on your own.

Lots of quick and humorous banter, along with some steamy and sweet romance enters the picture, as well. I love some good old sass and vinegar. The emotions are all over the place and keep a reader’s attention from start to finish.

You probably won’t worry about Asher stealing your heart until it’s too late. But Asher will manage to snag it without you even knowing, and I bet you’ll be cheering him as he tries to win the only heart that matters to him. Yes, our author certainly knows how to turn an unlovable and heartless bad boy into your next book boyfriend.

My only nitpick is that the ending was a bit rushed for my liking, and felt like it just begged for a bit more. You’ll find a rather out-of-the-ordinary love story, but one that captures your heart and leaves you in a good place.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of this book.

LET ME START BY SAYING THAT THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE THING. THE WRITING STYLE AND EDITING WERE SPOT ON.

It is with deep regret that I give an honest statement of saying that I was unable to finish this book. There has only ever been one other ARC that I felt this strongly about. As I said, it is a personal preference for me. Two things that I just can't stand are #1: a weak, immature or unintelligent h and #2: any character in any book who is the main focus and has the supreme goal of destroying other people's lives.

I can tolerate and enjoy dark, bad boy, alpha, BDSM, antiheroes and more, but I just couldn't get past the fact that the H isn't just a "player" who doesn't want to settle down (which would be okay), but truly sets out to "destroy people," possibly even his best friend.

I have two other books by this author, whom I have enjoyed in the past, so am excited to read them still, but I just couldn't get past the intense negativity of this character. Sorry......

This was an okay read. I really never could like Asher. The fact that he purposely went after woman that were already in relationships made me mad. However, he meets Sloane. Needless to say, things with her are different. Thankfully in the end he changes his way and they get a happy ending.

Asher is known as a demon. He goes after girls who have fiancee or boyfriends. He makes these girls believe he cares for them and then when they break-up with their significant others, he breaks up with them. Sloane works for a non-profit organization that works with helping kids. Asher sees Sloane when she is at her own bachelorette party. He thinks she will be a challenge so he goes after her. Asher wants Sloane to fall for him and then after she has fallen for him, he will break her heart. However, no everything goes as Asher planned.

I could not stop reading the first half of the book. I had no idea how it was going to end, but then at 60% it started to lose me. I have no idea why Sloane was thought of as a good girl. Besides her working for a non-profit organization, there was nothing good or pure about her. She was rich. Loved nice things. Lived in an amazing condo. I feel she initially made Asher feel bad about the way he lived.

The story and the characters lost me. With these type of books, I love when there are twists, but I thought this twist was weak and it just annoyed me. I ended up not liking any of the characters. By the end of the book, I thought Asher was weak and Sloane a b***h. There is no way this relationship was going to last.

The first 45% is in Asher POV and then there is a quarter in Sloane's POV.

This is my opinion. You may love it.

What an interesting story with a twist!!!

This was a great story, Asher and Sloane are two peas in one seriously twisted pod. Asher is a thief, whether it be of something tangible or a woman's heart it doesn't matter, he gets a rush from it. He has recently been stealing women from their fiance's and then then dumping them. He is the devil and not at all sorry for what he does. Sloane is out for her bachelorette party when Asher makes his move. Sloane snubs him and it only makes her more of a challenge to him. Is Sloane truly in love with Wes? Will she be able to resist Asher? Or will things end as they always do, where Asher gets the woman, then dumps her? This is a great read and I highly recommend it!

Asher is a thief of hearts, and that is his mission in life. He steals women from their men, and then leaves them broken hearted when he dumps them. Until he meets his match in Sloane, who is perfect for him. Together they go on a rollercoaster journey with challenges, betrayal and lies along the way.
Ella has done an amazing job in writing this story, which is powerful and had me hooked and intrigued from the very beginning. I recommend this authors work for all readers, you will not be disappointed.

My review is 3.65 stars.

This book is about a Casanova type character. I like the book but I missed the wow moment. Maybe, because of that, I'm giving 3 stars instead of 4. The story was good, characters were written fine, but I failed to connect with the characters. I didn't completely be in the sync with all the characters.

However, the plot chosen by the author to write this book about was good. In my view, there was a hefty chance to make the plot much bigger but I think the author missed that. Although the book is not bad, here is the thing, I expect much better books from the Author.

I'm definitely looking forward to rest of the Author's book.

A Review of Heart Of A Thief by Ella Miles

Asher and Sloane - 4.5 stars

Ms. Miles takes a character that is deeply flawed and a real douche and somehow turns him into a character that you want to root for. Asher has never really known love in his life and he gets great pleasure out of stealing women away from the men they are married to or getting ready to wed. Once he gets what he wants—for them to dump the man in their life and fall in love with him—then he is ready to dump them and move on to the next target. I so wanted to hate Asher with everything I am, then like his only friend Luca, I wanted to see the tables turned on him. But, the banter between Asher and Sloane is the stuff that makes you want to see him finally be happy and in love. You want Sloane to be the one that can resist him and take him down, but when you see the connection between them, you find yourself realizing how flawed all of us are in one way or another. A very interesting storyline.

Despicable Creatures

Two despicable creatures having sex, making each other, and others miserable. Asher is a douche, but to be fair, you can't steal someone who doesn't want to go in the first place...were the women he toyed with stupid, yes, did they deserve what they got, yes, in every scenario it was all about breaking HER heart, by causing her to break her engagement then dumping her, but these women never cared they broke their fiancé hearts the night before their weddings by dumping...they were all willing participants, and they all got played by a jerk...who then got played by Sloane...the only "victims" were the men who got ditched by these dumb women...but then again, they were better off in the long run, since these women were so easily cheating....no hero, no heroine, just two horrible people who deserve each other.

Terrible

Skimmed the last 50%. Un-realistic characters and story. Never been so glad to get to the end of a book. They way he destroys people and then just changes - don't think so. And her revenge plan - while understandable - was just stupid. Won't read any more books by this author.

I am a huge fan of Ella Miles and am excited to post my review today of her latest novel, Heart of a Thief. One thing I love about Ella is her ability to take completely flawed people and somehow dig up the good inside of them and make you cheer for them. This was absolutely the case with Asher and Sloane in Heart of a Thief.

Asher is a professional surfer that lives a very simple life despite the money that he has made. He lives in a tiny shack on the ocean in Hawaii, drives a beat up old truck, and surfs. However, his downfall is his addiction to stealing women that are planning to marry other men. The rush of breaking up an engagement and breaking hearts is Asher’s horrible habit. Sloane is a beautiful, caring young woman that runs a non-profit for troubled youth, as well as, a fellow surfer. As soon as he spots her at her bachelorette party, he decides that she is his next conquest.

So, Asher was a very bad boy. However, his looks, charisma, and charm made it difficult for me to dislike him for long. I certainly did not agree with his hatred of love and commitment or his desire to destroy others’ relationships – however, it was impossible not to fall in love with him. It took me awhile to warm up to Sloane because I couldn’t figure her out. She was one of those sneaky characters that I thought was the “good guy” of the story, but oh my, she ended up surprising me.

This was a fast-paced and addictive book, although at times I felt like there wasn’t really anywhere to go with the overall plot. Not only were there several plot twists to juice up the plot, I ended up completely shocked at various points in the novel. Ella Miles took what seemed to be a straightforward story and filled it with some major twists that I couldn’t believe – and I loved every bit of it!

Heart of a Thief is funny, suspenseful, sad, frustrating, but overall it’s romantic. As always, her novels serve as a reminder that love can sneak up on us at any moment and that sometimes the people we think are wrong for us, end up being exactly right. Bad guys can become good guys, and people can learn from their mistakes.

I have read a ton of Ella Miles, but I must say that I think this may be my favorite! Any fans of romantic suspense and imperfect characters should not miss this one.

*Thanks to author Ella Miles for providing a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review!

At 40%, Just. Couldn't. Finish.

The characterization is shallow and cliched, the plot thin, and the chemistry between Asher and Sloan nonexistent. The story is told mostly in first person, present tense which I generally dislike. And when I say *told,* I mean that most of the action is simplistically described rather than conveyed through dialog.

This book makes me think of a fairly literate teenage girl trying to write a titillating novel about a real 'bad boy' who wants to 'destroy' women by stealing them from her boyfriend/fiancé, preferably right before the wedding. Unfortunately, Asher's incessant internal musings about said destruction never conveyed any real passion for the goal and the author hadn't, at the point that I threw in the towel, revealed the impetus for his nasty behavior. As a result, his mental mustache-twirling comes off flat and is at best, petty, and at worst sociopathic.

Sloan is described as strong, independent, and goal oriented. Yet she is passively 'go along, get along' with her fiancé, Wes, who she doesn't seem to love. Further, after token protest, she allows Asher to manipulate her into going on a date with him even though she is just days away from her wedding. It becomes clear that her actions don't match the description and 'she just wants someone to love her.' The handwriting is on the wall as the reader slogs through Asher's meant-to-be-menacing actions to seduce Sloan when what he's *really* doing is falling in love with her. Horse hockey! I didn't buy it for one moment.

Bottom line: The author's notes warn the reader that he/she may not like the main character(s) and that the path to true love would not be easy. She's certainly right on the first count. Unfortunately, I'm not interested enough to tread the difficult path to the foregone conclusion.

I'll be honest up front, I have never, ever hated on a male protagonist from the very first few pages as I do Asher. He is one of those characters with very few redeeming qualities about him and he reveals in it. He loves the thrill of stealing women's hearts, BUT not just any woman's heart. She must be spoken for, be totally in love with someone else, almost stepping down the aisle in love. Then when they fall in love with him and ruin the love they already had, he was already walking away leaving devastation in his wake. Ruthless!!! He calls himself the devil, a demon, and says he has no heart. It really makes it hard to want to continue to read a book knowing that these kind of shenanigans are going to go on and there is clear heartbreak in the future.
You can probably guess that it will be a woman that will enter and devastate him and turn the tables on Asher. Enter Sloane, Ms. Goodie-Two-Shoes-with-an-attitude. She has it all, a non-profit business, a fiance she loves, sass; but she has a dark inner part she hides from everyone. She's a real b**** deep down and the demon in Asher brings out her worst.
This book is full of twists and intrigue and two characters that you will either love or hate. It's a story of people who go out of their way to hurt others, so there is a part of me was always put-off by that, no matter how the situations changed. It's definitely a book you have to read to experience your own opinion on.

Heart of a Thief

I voluntarily read an arc of this book for a fair and honest review. Asher is that guy that everyone warns you about. The man you think you can change. Most women don’t find out, until it’s too late, the Asher gets off on destroying relationships. Sometimes it’s a one and done and others might last only a few weeks..but every woman has an expiration date. Asher seems to love only two things, surfing and himself. There is no lack of self esteem for Asher. He actually anxious to meet his best friend Luca’s new woman, so he can steal her also. He’s shallow, manipulative and heartless. When he meets his next “mark” Sloane, she’s at her bachelorette party. Using every weapon in his arsenal, Sloane doesn’t take the bait. This only makes Asher more driven to break Sloane’s life apart. Asher catches a break when a Sloane’s fiancé, Wes, gets surfing lessons from none other than Asher himself. Asher then decides to use Wes to get to Sloane. After a couple weeks of teaching Wes to surf...Asher has managed to position himself as best man at Sloane and Wes’s wedding. By chapter 10 you find yourself rooting, just a little bit, for Asher. So far this story is told solely from his pov. The story then shifts to Sloane’s pov. This is a non romantic romance. It’s not pretty or flowery, it’s raw and harsh. If you’re looking for something totally different from all the books you read that are essentially the same, this is the book for you.

This is different approach to a "romance" than I would have expected. Asher is a bad boy thief who takes pleasure in making engaged women fall for him, in effect stealing their hearts when he knows they belong with someone else. Once he wins his little twisted game, he tosses them away because they meant nothing at all to him. But meeting Sloane excites him because he sees this one as a challenge. The game certainly backfires on him because she ends up stealing his heart instead!

Sloane helps children for a non-profit organization and seems to be well-liked by everyone. She is engaged to marry Wes. Although this doesn’t deter Asher who cares nothing about such commitment, Sloane herself will make him work for what he wants. She makes sure it doesn’t come easily. Is this all a game for her too? Will Ash make her fall in love with him? Is this finally the one he won’t let get away?

There are many emotions pulled out in this book. But when I can’t like the characters, it makes it difficult to enjoy the book. Asher is just plain mean-spirited and takes his joy in demeaning others. Sloane is stubborn which helps her resist him, but I didn’t feel like she was as good as she may have seemed. I guess it comes down to this book not being a good fit for me personally. I’m glad I didn’t have the paperback or I might have ripped out a few pages now and then.

Let me start by saying I have read and enjoyed other books by Ella Miles. I did not, however, like this book very much. Asher is a massive jerk. He is a pro surfer and used to steal things. Now he finds engaged women, gets them to fall in love with him and sleep with him, and "steals" them away from their fiances. He does it in cruel, humiliating ways. I found him to have no redeeming qualities. None. He would even go after his best friend's girlfriend for the challenge of it. Even if it ends their friendship.

Along comes Sloane, the next fiance he wants to steal. She falls into his trap and the story continues. There are additional things I wasn't a fan of but I'd ruin the story if I explain them. I'm not a fan of spoilers in reviews.

He's a jerk and she has questionable behavior. If you like really bad boys with black souls and your love stories with a lot of angst, this is the story for you. I just like my love stories to be a little more sweet.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

The story of Asher and Sloane that turns out to be a really good love story but one I almost didn't finish. As the story starts, Asher is not likeable, at all, and because of his awful behavior, I considered stopping reading. But I kept with it and am so glad I did! It's hard to review this without giving anything away but eventually Asher and Sloane get together (something he'd set his sights on the first night he saw her) and the twists this story takes are incredibly suprising. Asher starts with zero redeeming qualities and as the story progresses you start to see another side of him and think that he and Sloane are actually going to work. Until - Sloane gives him a taste of his own medicine (it was a shocking twist in my opinion) and you begin to realize they will never be able to overcome that kind of betrayal (on both their sides). I highly recommend this story... if you start it and aren't loving it, don't give up on it... you will not be disappointed when all is said and done :)

Asher is a millionaire who leaves in a beach shack in Hawaii. He is a professional surfer who always gets what he wants…other men’s fiancée’s. Sloan owns a nonprofit company along with her grandmother and is engaged. Asher sees her one night and knows she is the biggest challenge he will ever face! In a twist, he manages to become the best man at her wedding! Through a series of events…she ends up marrying Asher, but only for a year! He has played a dangerous game his entire life by stealing…now he is about to receive a wakeup call! This is a torrid passionate steamy adventurous romance…but with an added twist you will NEVER see coming! My mouth dropped in surprise! Ella Miles definitely writes with a dramatic flair…but the psychological mind bashing she pulls out in this book will definitely surprise you! Will there be any redemption? Anything left to save? What happens when the truth comes out? To find out…you will have to read this book and be prepared to be hooked! I received this via Booksprout and am leaving a voluntary review.

This book started out interesting, a book about a really bad, heartless guy finding love? Cool! Unfortunately, the story devolved into unrealistic and unlikable characters, and plot holes big enough to drive a truck through.
By the time I got to the "surprise" twist in the end, I was skeptical and honestly didn't care what happened to either of them. The language and graphic talk was too much, too often, after a while it was a blur, "Yeah yeah, can we get on with the story, please?"
The change in POVs toward the end of the book could have been a good ploy, especially considering the twist, but the characters sounded too much alike. I could barely tell who was talking, it was all the same trash talk using virtually the same language. Rather than illuminate what was happening, it just muddied it up and left me wondering why the author even bothered.
Don't get me wrong, many parts were excellent, and Ella Miles has a good grasp of storytelling, I just wish she had concentrated on the heart.
In the end, they were both too broken, too bitter, too unforgivable.

I loved this book. I hated this book and I loved and hated it over and over again while reading it.
Asher is the ultimate bad boy. The one everyone reads about and loves. That is until you read this book. Asher is a thief. Not only has he stolen items. He’s stolen hearts. Hearts of women ready to be wed. Until one day when he meets Sloane at the bar during her bachelorette party.
Sloane is an amazing woman. She has her own charity she runs with her grandmother and a life one could only wish for themselves. Until Asher comes along.
This crazy, crazy book has me all torn up. It’s sweet. It’s sad. Its hot and it’s so unbelievably intense.
I’m not sure I can handle another bad boy Romance after this. This story hits all the marks. You will love it. The characters are amazing. So deep. So consuming. I can’t say I’ve felt so torn up after reading but this is one of those books. Don’t miss out. It truly is a great read.

Ella Miles did an amazing job with the story line of this book. She kept me wanting more of the characters because of the chemistry that they had. I was also surprised with some of the twist that were written into the story line.

Asher is a thief of many things but gets the most thrill out of stealing other men's women. However, one night out he is looking for the best thrill he can find and comes across Sloan. She does not want anything to do with him because she is engaged to another man. This only makes Asher want her even more but he doesn't just take what he wants he wants her to pick him.

Sloan wants nothing to do with Asher because she knows his style and is getting married to Wes. The only thing the more Asher is around things begin to change. These changes though are the real or is it all just for show or even revenge?

Overall this book was another hit for me and I can't wait to read the next book.

I wasn't a fan of the premise (I don't enjoy cheating in my novels) when I first read it but I knew that there was a larger story at hand (as there often is with Ella Miles' novels) and so I pressed on--and am really glad I did. So if that is your reservation about this story, know that the "cheating" aspect isn't the only aspect to this story. There is a lot more to this story than the synopsis implies.

This story slowly sucked me in. I thought it was interesting that the first half of the novel is from Asher's POV and the 2nd half is Sloane's; it brought an interesting spin to the story and let me get to know them individually and form my own opinions. So I really got invested in Asher and Sloane's relationship and trying to figure out what was real and what wasn't.

It's a little darker than your everyday contemporary romance but if you enjoy stories with interesting twists, bad boy heroes and lots of sexy times, you should be reading this book!

These are two of the most despicable lead characters I have ever read. But in spite of their less than savory attitudes and actions, we still come to find them lovable by the end. Asher is a self-described devil. He steals women out of committed relationships simply because he can. It's a game to him. On the surface, Sloane looks like the perfect sympathetic heroine. She runs a charity organization that puts at-risk youth back on the path to a successful future. Don't let that fairy princess description fool you. Likewise, Asher's bad-boy persona is as much a mask as Sloane's good girl. These two are carrying around a lot of hurt and anger, at the world, at each other. And we get to watch them unpack that baggage and learn that love isn't just a myth, that it can save us from ourselves.

It is very well written with great storyline and plot. The characters are well described, develops well and mostly likeable. This is a story of great length and that gives the characters a depth that cannot always be given to their personalies in shorter stories. This story flows so well of the pages and I could not lay it down.
I like it is written in dual POV, which gives the reader both the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. That makes the story even more emotional and captivating. The twists and turns are so unexpected that they made it worth the read.
A story with a bit different storyline than usual romance stories. I like that. I like to follow their journey to get their HEA. They have to fight for it with all the trouble that is thrown at them.
Absolutely worth the read.

What a extremely unique twist on a heartbreaking romance between Asher and Sloane. Their story had so many twists and turns, ups and downs, it was hard not to pay attention. From page one I was intrigued. After reading page after page I was not dissapointed. Asher and Sloane's characters were so complex. You must read this book in order to full understand the magnitude of their complexity. As you read, their personalities unfold. Some of it is not pretty, but such is life. It took approximately four to five hours to read. The pace was medium and very smooth. One page flowed into the other. Everything made sense. However the ending of the story took me completely by surprise. I could not have anticipated the ending. It was a shocking revelation. I highly recommend this book. Aww!! I loved Asher and Sloan's story!!! It was absolutely amazing!! What started off as asher trying to steal the girl and break her heart backfires in the form of karma! He finally meets his match and finds that love truly does exist! Then he finds out what it feels like to truly have a heart and have it broken to pieces. He's the bad boy your mama always warns you about! And she's the good girl that everyone wants to protect! But deep down that girl good can have a dark side. So much happens and I was absolutely captivated in this story!!! And so happy on how the HEA happens! I can't wait to read more!!! Ella Miles you absolutely rock! And are truly amazing!!!

This book was a surprising pleasure. A wonderful, well written book that offers an engaging storyline. The characters are complex and well developed. I loved the uniqueness of having the hero of this book be so objectionable. To start, Asher is not a good guy or a nice guy. He's not likable nor is he even misunderstood. He is a terrible person, that takes great pleasure in causing other people pain and then acting like he did them a favor by doing it. Sloane is strong, capable and tough and she just might be the one to bring Asher to his knees. This is really not your typical romance and to me that was a good thing. It's a story about the antihero and how love finds him regardless. I'm posting an honest, voluntary review after reading an advance copy of this book.
