Very suspenseful!

I chose this rating because this book is so fantastic. Not only did I learn better Spanish, but the story was so entertaining. All of the characters had such unique personalities. James reminded me so much of myself.I truly could not put the book down!I have ordered more by this author. Love the advice the author gives, about how not to get tangled up,sorting out the meaning of each word. Rather, it's better to just enjoy the story and pick out what I do understand. Obviously i will have to read the book many times,in order to get better with the words and phrases. But the characters are so enjoyable that this will be easy to do.!!

Great for intermediate or advanced beginner

Five stars because this book cleverly repeats certain conjugations and phrases within the story. Also, includes key vocabulary after each chapter. However, I would prefer to have the list of vocabulary before each chapter.

I found this B1 level reading book on Kindle and thought it would be good for my practising of reading in Spanish - and it was. This level is perfect for my ability in Spanish at this time and I felt confident reading something that I understood (95% of anyway). The story was a simple one of boy who loves learning spanish meets spanish girl who is learning english - and they click, but events conspire to break them up, but then they are reunited. The story didn't matter that much, it wasn't that exciting to read but kept my interest level up enough to keep me reading the story and was amusing.

I've read all, or at least almost all, of his books through the B1 level and enjoyed everyone of them. You do get a feel for the language as he writes. In this book the main characters are a brother and sister living in a small village/town, in England and a young woman who immigrate to England to find work. The young man is enamored of all things Spanish to the annoyance of his sister. The brother and the young woman connect to help each other learn their respective languages.

One to the things different in this story is there are passages of conversation in English between the brother and sister follow by how you would say the same thing in Spanish.

As always. Mr. Fernandez recommends reading each chapter without consulting a dictionary to develop the skill of determine the meaning of word through context. Each chapter is followed with a translation of the difficult passages.

A funny and interesting story

A story which is funny and interesting, that teaches you Spanish as well as introduces you to Spanish culture. Juan has written it well and if you have intermediate spanish skill, you will enjoy the story ( might get few laughs too). Strongly recommend for anyone who is looking for books to,improve their spanish.

Simple story using contextual modern Spanish. Good learning tool.

The story was simple and fast moving. I was able to understand the theme and context, even though I did not know all the words so the translation at the end of chapters helped me better understand how these words and idiomatic expressions are used in modern, daily Spanish. It's best to read this type of book without stopping to look up the words you don't know as you'll lose the thread and the enjoyment; if you're at level B1/ intermediate you will understand the theme of the story; plus good practice in trying to remember the verb tenses. Juan is a very good Spanish teacher, having watched his YouTube videos for years, I know my Spanish has improved and this story was definitely at my level of B1.

¿Me voy o me quedo? is yet another fun read in Spanish for the intermediate learner. The main character is a young man who tries just a bit too hard to make himself come across as a Spanish native. In so doing, he makes himself 'el tonto del pueblo' (the village idiot). The vocabulary introduced in this book is useful and a list of words and expressions follows each chapter explained in English. In the author's books for level B2 such explanations are provided only in Spanish. However, this book is rated a B1 level.
The ending leaves much to be desired. The story ends abruptly without any resolution as to what might happen next.
Overall, this book is entertaining and a reader might just get so absorbed by it that s/he forgets s/he was supposed to be learning. ¡Vamos a leer!

Fun story and great for learning!

I’ve read this book a few times now. Juan Fernandez is writes great stories, and usually with a dose of good humor.

The story is engaging enough to be able to read it a several times, while still being engaging, and it’s definitely packed with a solid amount of new vocabulary, colloquial phrases, and important grammatical structures (“Que palabra tan fea!”) that are highlighted and repeated throughout the book. This is a great way to learn and solidify your Spanish.

True to form, el Señor Fernandez provides lots of repetition to facilitate language mastery embedded in an intriguing story. An added bonus for this particular story is that Juan provides background information and an audio version on his 1001 Reasons to Learn Spanish website so that one can work on listening skills in addition to reading/vocabulary growth.

Bien hecho, maestro! Gracias por un metodo divertido para appender español.

Me gustó este libro. Me resultó graciosa la idea de un chico que quiere tanto ser español, y pasa todo su tiempo intentando aprender el idioma y la cultura española. No me gustó que hubiera tanto inglés en el libro, pero todo fue traducido a español también, así que no importaba mucho. Me pareció interesante que en la introducción, el autor dice que escribió este libro después de Brexit, que apenas se menciona en el libro.

Lots of good expressions which I need to write down and practise. Easy to read and funny. The Kindle edition is let down by awkward writing in English and some very clunky translations. I hope they aren’t in the printed book! Juan, I would be honoured to fix these because you are a great teacher and a funny raconteur.

For most of the book, there is a real story line. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters. However, the book ended too abruptly. At first, I thought there must be one last chapter with a happy ending, but was disappointed when there wasn't. Nevertheless, I find the book rather entertaining even though it was written to teach a language.

Overall a very good book with an engaging story and a lot of translated English-Spanish dialogue, that helps the reader improve his vocabulary without too much effort.

My only real biff with the story is that it seems to convey the idea that every second Briton is some kind of a xenophobic idiot. As someone who lives in London, I expected Juan Fenandez to know better.

Otro libro terminado en español! Me gusta mucho esta historia porque las temas son un poco más profundos. Por supuesto, no se escribe muy sutilmente, pero me da igual. Es una historia para estudiantes y también muy divertida leer. Sola cosa que no me gusta fue el personaje se llama Katie. Su historia termina con una redención que me creo que no merece.

A nice, but simple story about stereotypes! Juan Fernandez is a master in building stories aound his idiomatic words and phrases. Sometimes there is a brize of grammer- but not too much so that you do not give up!

Good book to practice your Spanish reading. The story is interesting enough to hold your interest, however I felt that it ended abruptly. All in all I would recommend this book to those who need to practice thier Spanish

Great for learning Spanish just like the other books from this author, however, the skinheads and the fact that the main character didn't know his best friends had learned a second language.

Just didn't make any sense but some great Spanish phrases as always.

Great book for B1

Fun and easy to understand at this level of Spanish learning, at which most novels are too advanced and a little frustrating to read. Happy I came across Juan Fernandez’s books.

Useful for reinforcing Spanish vocab and grammar I’ve learned, but I didn’t find the plot or characters particularly riveting so found myself skim reading towards the end.

Foreigners go home!

A cute story about a Spanish girl trying to find work in England. I had problems reading the text because my dictionary could not translate many of the words.

I enjoyed this Spanish book

The story was good, and the wording in Spanish stayed at the intermediate level. I’m going to try another of his books at the same level.
