A drop of blood holds their only hope…or their destruction.
Serena Quinn is walking a tightrope strung between grief and despair. As long as Lucius Montfort holds her lover Silas captive, she is forced to pretend she’s besotted with the vampire whose offspring murdered her sister. Worse, conflicting visions of the future show her with Lucius, then with Silas — and their child. Which future is real?
As if that’s not enough, Lucius needs money — lots of money — to find a cure for vampirism. He’s got his eye on the Quinn family coffers, which Serena’s brother will empty if vampire blood can save his terminally ill daughter.
In the meantime, Serena struggles to paint a convincing picture of complete devotion to Lucius, while holding out for a miracle that The Watchers will manage to rescue her captured lover. But as her visions for any future at all shred and ravel away to almost nothing, one last chance lies in a completely unexpected blood tie that could save them — or destroy them both.
A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.
While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.
After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.
Serena is still reeling from the loss of her sister, the possibility her brother will sell his soul to Lucius for power and the conversion of her friend and neighbour into a Semivive! Add in the usual family squabbles with her parents and the tenuous link to her HEA with Silas, this girl is spinning far too many plates!
The randomness of her visions, often giving counter indications to her future, are messing with her. Add in a real health crisis for a young relative and she realises that this could be the catalyst to her brothers downfall and the linchpin Lucius needs.
Silas may languish in the belly of the beast, aka Lucius basement, but he has not given up and holds safely to the conviction that Serena does everything in her power to free him.
A great and satisfying ending to the trilogy. We have seen the characters grow and their greatest fears and triumphs unfold. Sad to see Serena and Silas go but glad they got the HEA they deserved!
Absolutely wonderful!! What a great final book to the series! Serena, Silas, Lucius, Michael, Brian, Candace, Felix and Jackson, just to name most of the main characters! This story was about Serena, still a prisoner of Lucius (a vampire), who had fallen in love with Silas ( a Watcher- gargoyle). It also involved Jackson, Serena's brother who was running to become the President of the US and his daughter who was deathly ill. Could vampire blood be a cure for human ailments, Jackson and Lucius wanted to find out. But the vampire had more evil ideas for that blood too. A great deal of suspense, sadness, death, rescue attempts, deception, more kidnapping, nasty vampire doings, Gargoyle planning, nail biting and in the end family, trust, determination, common sense and love won out. Christine Pope did a awesome job on this series! Kathy Barber Doyle - 1/26/2019
Well Chistine Pope, you sure know how to put a terrific finish on a story!
This will have you on the edge of your seat and, at times, chewing your nails.
Exciting, thrilling, scary, exhilarating, hopeful, despairing and many more. All of these words and emotions and some of what you can expect while you are in the thrall of this story!
Grab the series and get stuck in. You will love it.
Awesome Christine, I can't wait for the next adventure!
Rising Dawn (The Watchers Book 3) by Christine Pope. Can Serena keep Lucius at arms length but try and convince him of her love to keep her lover Silas alive while he’s Lucius captive. Then Lucius gets Serena’s brother in his sights.
It’s a good ending for the story and I think I liked this book the most in the series. Some aspects have been predictable and the characters are okay instead of exciting, but overall it’s a good book. 4 stars.
Very enjoyable light reading. The end of the trilogy ended beautifully! Couldn't ask for a better end....Just hate that this was the end of that story...
