Human women required. Must be enthusiastic about interactions with vampires. Must be willing to undergo a stringent medical exam. Must be prepared to sign a contractual agreement which would include a nondisclosure clause. Limited positions available…
A Mate for York York has always wanted a female of his very own. More than anything he wants a family…he longs to hear the sound of children’s laughter filling his home. Since most vampire females are not able to birth young, a program is started to ensure the continuation of the vampire species. The vampire elite must fight, fist and fang, for a much sought after place in the program.
There are twenty-five human women from which to choose. They have been handpicked to ensure that they are not only perfect for the program but irresistible to the vampire males. Why is it then that York wants the one female he can’t have?
When Cassidy is selected for the trial phase of the program, she is ecstatic. This is the break she’s been waiting for. Her job is to root out any vampires with bloodlust. She’s quaking in her boots because she could end up dead. Thing is, it’s only three days of her life. All she needs to do is survive long enough to get paid and she’s home free. Besides, she quit her job in order to be here, so she so doesn’t have any other options available to her. Three days…pity one times big, badass vampire is determined to get in the way of her plans.
A Mate for Gideon Jenna has a few skeletons in her closet. One of which is tall, dark and gorgeous. He also happens to be a vampire with a grudge against her. She’s made mistakes and has done things she’s not proud of. The time has come to take charge of her life. The opportunity to do just that comes along in the form of an acceptance into the infamous vampire program.
Would she like to date a vampire? Hell yes!
But not just any vampire, her vampire. That is, if he’ll ever forgive her. With such a dark past, she worries whether she’ll ever be able to confront him and in so doing, bare her soul to him. It would kill her to see the disgust and contempt in his eyes.
Gideon is almost brought to his knees, when he realizes, that Jenna is one of the females that’s taking part in the dating program.
His Jenna. No! Not his. Not anymore.
What the hell is she doing here? With all he knows about her, there’s no way that she was able to meet all the minimum criteria required for acceptance. Not a damned chance! He’s not interested in her…or any human female for that matter. That said, he also refuses to just stand by and watch her get seduced by one of the victorious ten, elite males. His only option is to find a way to expose her as the deceptive female that she is.
The story contains strong sexual themes/language and is not intended for readers under the age of 18. These are standalone novels. No cliffhangers!

If there is one woman that can make a cheesy book sexy it’s Charlene Hartnady.
This was just that. Light, easy, cute and so cheesy. And yet? I devoured the whole thing. Her books are so uncomplicated, (even though we do get drama) and it’s this part I enjoy the most when it comes to her books.
If I need to “breathe” because I got a lot going on, but still want to read- Hartnady is such a good choice.
This is the first book about the breeding program and in it we meet York. The strongest of the vampire elite, and he falls for the one human he cannot have. Cassidy. Sweet and strong Cassidy, just trying to better her life with a little cash so she can start over again in a new city. A fresh start. At least that was what she thought.
Super cheesy and cute, but definitely also hot.
A Mate for Gideon
4 stars
A perfectly compelling story!
Great build-up, much more character development, and very likeable characters. Super sweet, actually. Totally got a soft spot for big and scary Lazarus. His friendship was gold.
Loved how vulnerable Gideon felt. And how Jenna stood up for herself and got out of a bad situation. It was a much more compact story, and I liked it.
Still got the cheesy going - it is Hartnady, but her world-building is worth the little cheesiness.
FABULOUS SERIES !!! The Program Series Box Set: Books 1 and 2 Author: Charlene Hartnady Designation: Paranormal Romance, Compilation of Book One (A Mate for York) and Book Two (A Mate for Gideon) Each book of this collection is a full-length standalone. NO Cliffhanger (There are 4 other books in the series currently available and a seventh due for release in June 2017) Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars***** ***Disclosure: I do not own this exact collection but I do own the books individually and love this series so much, I'd like to share my original review for each. I highly recommend this collection for anyone who loves strong, sexy alpha vampire warriors finding true love for the first time. These vampire warriors are fierce but they're also adorable, quite humorous and willing to do anything for their mates... and that includes dying. These two books will give you a taste of the series enabling you to decide if this series is one you would like to continue but remember, all the books can be read as a standalone and none of them end with a cliffhanger.
Charlene Hartnady has dazzled us yet again with The Program, a riveting spin-off from her mega-popular The Chosen Series. And may I just say WOW! I love it! She never fails to tease, tantalize and titillate her readers. I was completely captivated from page one and simply could not put this book down. Oh yes, this book has it all. Love steamy passion and dreamy romance? Well, it's included. Want danger and drama laced with a little intrigue and suspense? Yep, it has that too. Thrills and chills? Most definitely! Have to have spine-tingling plot twists? Well, your in luck because they're also included. Prefer a little humor? Absolutely! As I said - this book has it all. I laughed! I cried! And I found myself holding my breath! Yes, it's that good! So, what are you waiting for? Grab it and start reading. And the best part - these books are all standalone stories with NO cliffhangers! Woo-Hoo! The story is original, unique, inventive, well-crafted, fast-paced, cute, fun, romantic and seductive. Heck, I'm 63 and even I wanted to apply for "The Program." The narrative is exceptionally well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed and flows seamlessly. The entire book is extremely well edited which is always a big plus for me. The characters shine as brightly as the beacon of a lighthouse. They are captivating, fascinating, engaging, endearing, sexy as sin and at times, laugh out loud funny. Another big plus for me is the recurring appearance of characters from Charlene's previously released books which reinforces not only the validity and believability of the series but also the familiarity of the world in which the book has been written. It is always such a treat to see how our favorite characters are doing. Charlene skillfully combines all these elements into a delicious tale filled to the brim with a little light humor, fun-filled adventure, a dollop of suspense, a generous measure of a romping good time and loads of dreamy romance! Where can I sign up for The Program?
Premise for the series: Vampire Kings Zane and Brant are now proud papas of a bouncing baby boy named Sam and when they aren't trying to keep Queen Tanya happy and satisfied, they're both busy implementing their new "Breeding Program" also known as "The Program." What? Breeding Program? Oh yes, I said breeding program. Zane and Brant have learned through Ward, Stephany's new alpha wolf mate, that humans are, in fact, strong enough to survive a mating with shifters and vampires other than the kings. It seems the shifters have been doing it for years, in secret of course. The Kings have finally embraced this new idea and have been hard at work drawing up the contracts with the humans and finalizing the arrangements. Their hard work has finally paid off and they're launching the first stage of "The Program" by advertising for women to volunteer to date a vampire. Huh? Yep, the initial trial will be called "The Dating Program." Wait - what? What's the difference? Well, I'm glad you asked. The difference is that there will be no mating and no sex with the participants of the initial trial. It will be blood-drinking only. What? Oh, did I forget to mention that part? This trial is for three days only and is strictly to determine if the chosen vampire males can drink blood from the human women without experiencing bloodlust. Oh my! Unfortunately, quite a few vampires suffer from the affliction which can turn calm, disciplined vampires into blood-crazed maniacs who can drain a human of all their blood within minutes. Oh no! And, there's no way to tell who will succumb to bloodlust until they actually drink from a human. Yep, that's right! It can be a bit risky. So the vampire males who want to be part of The Program compete in battle against each other to earn their slot. Ten elite vampires are chosen to participate in the program and if they pass the initial phase without succumbing to bloodlust, they pass to the next round and will be able to choose a mate from the human females. But the human women will be carefully screened and will also be monetarily compensated so it's worth the risk, right? It would seem so, that is if they survive. Just a minor little problem but all precautions and security measures have been taken. Unfortunately, all of this has become a necessary risk since vampires are becoming extinct. Although it's dangerous for human women to give birth to vampire babies, most female vampires cannot safely birth children at all and have to be sterilized. Sadly, the births resulting from vampire/human unions have been only male children. As a result, there's a shortage of viable women thereby creating the problem - they need human women. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy about this newest little development and have already made an attempt on King Zane's life. So now it seems that the vampires and everyone involved with The Program may be at risk. Oh my goodness!
Book One: A Mate for York No matter the danger or how insurmountable it may seem, nothing will stop Elite Vampire Guard York. Most of the vampire guards had decided to participant in the combat competition in order to win a position in the new breeding program - the chance to have their own female - a soft, beautiful, curvy, human female. Who wouldn't fight for that, right? It had long been York's dream to have a mate and a family. Most vampire males never do. Only the Kings had been allowed to mate humans - until now. But that was all about to change and York had already been promised a slot in the program in exchange for a favor he granted Brant's brother, Xavier, but nonetheless, York wanted to fight and earn his position. He is the Captain of the Elite Guard after all and he doesn't want to be accused of receiving favorable treatment. He is the biggest, baddest and best of all the vampire warriors. And of course, as usual, he succeeds again just as he will be successful at proving that he would never succumb to bloodlust. Piece of cake, right? Wrong! Human females are, indeed, very hard to resist, especially the ones with beautiful green eyes like Cassidy, the first female candidate he meets. And she tastes even better than she looks! He would have his female and he wants this one - rules and contracts be damned!
Cassidy is almost thirty and still has absolutely nothing to show for her life other than a death certificate for a no good selfish husband and an unexpected mountain of debt, which of course, was all because of his gambling and his weekly trips to "The Kitty's Paw", an escort agency. She had hoped by this point she would be settled into a wonderful life with the man of her dreams and two or three children but all she has is painful memories, heartache, a crappy job with a lecherous boss, a pile of debt and a zero bank balance. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If she can only be approved to participate in the vampire "Dating Program", she could make enough money to pay off her debt and have enough left over to start a new life - somewhere else. She could make it through three days, right? She just has to let them drink a little blood. Easy Peasy, right? Not when her very first vampire is hot, handsome, sex-on-a-stick York! Buckle up my ladies! We're in for another wild ride! No spoilers from me but I will say this....Beautiful human widow with gorgeous green eyes and lush curves-check! Handsome Elite Vampire Guard determined to have his human female, rules be damned-check! A large cast of wonderful characters-check! Two exasperated Kings-check! A new Breeding Program, a dash of humor, a lot of fun, a little angst, and a pinch of suspense-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, sweet romance and dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Deliciously cute, seriously sexy and delightfully entertaining!
Book Two: A Mate for Gideon The Kings have been having quite the problem with their men because of the human females. They can't seem to stay away from them. But Kings Brant and Zane knew they would never have to worry about Gideon. He didn't even compete to be one of the ten elite vampire males that would have first choice for a mate from the approved human women. Gideon wanted no part of new 'Dating Program'. Apparently, he doesn't even like humans. He doesn't??? Oh my! He most definitely liked one particular female and secretly had a brief relationship with her eighteen months ago which sadly ended in terrible heartbreak. So, when he realized that Jenna Darcy was currently staying at the castle and also a participant in the Program, he is beyond furious. How dare she? She would have had to lie on her application to be approved. He would order her to leave and if she didn't, he would have her disqualified. Sounds to me like he doth protest too much! Unfortunately, he still loves her but what's even worse, he can't have any contact with her because he's not part of the program! Oh my! What's a vampire in love to do?
Jenna Darcy has lost everything that's ever mattered to her. The new vampire 'Dating Program' is her last chance to hopefully see Gideon and convince him of the true depth of her feelings for him. She's out of money and out of options. She can only hope and pray that Gideon still has feelings for her and will allow her to explain what really happened. If he refuses to help her, well, the price of failure may just be her life. Oh my goodness! Will Gideon and Jenna find a way to be together??? Or will Jenna have to face the danger alone? No spoilers from me but I will say this....Beautiful human woman who is quite literally running for her life-check! Handsome Elite Vampire in charge of security for the Kings who is determined to never fall in love, again-check! A cruel, vicious Sweetwater cop-check! A large cast of wonderful characters-check! Two exasperated Kings-check! A new Breeding Program, a dash of humor, a lot of fun, a little angst, a lot of danger and a pinch of suspense-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, sweet romance and dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Deliciously cute, seriously sexy and delightfully entertaining!
The Program (The Program, #1 - 2) is the first two intriguing books in the enthralling The Program by Charlene Hartnady. I can't get enough of this paranormal romantic deliciousness with alpha males in all shapes and sizes Vampires, Shifters, and Elves. It is smoking Hot, sexy, sizzling and erotic so much so that it These men are ruthless, they are vicious, power players, they are violent. There is lots of action, danger and war around every corner but given all that they love fast, they love with their whole heart and make you want to go and find your own. Charlene has woven a captivating, tangled web of lies, deceit, suspense, drama and love that will leave you breathless. The characters are to die for, and each have their own voice in this series. I love that we get their POV because it makes them more real. It is not all doom and gloom though there are plenty of witty moments and humour that will have you laughing out loud especially Zane and Becky, they crack me up. Don’t even stop to think just click and read and tell me I am not wrong. Happy reading!
Such an interesting concept, and action packed! Very entertaining with things that will make you laugh out loud, but drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
What is up with the ratings for this boxed set? Individually these books are not rated that high at all.
The issues: 1. Editing. Holy run-on rambling sentences. 2. World-building is completely and utterly absent, but the world isn't a straight-forward one so it's REALLY necessary. 3. Annoying vampire kings who are hot-headed and act like Greek revengeful gods without morals or scruples. AKA, we need to add a plot device to keep the H & h away from each other, here let's throw in some annoying cheap deus machina crap. 4. Book 2 is so full to the brim of abuse, it's completely overwhelming. We have hitting, verbal abuse, freaking 7th month miscarriage caused by the boyfriend pushing her down the freaking stairs, kidnapping, ransoming, more hitting, more verbal abuse. Sorry, uhm.... what? 5. Book 2's heroine is also just not likeable at all? She came across as weak, and literally jumped from guy to guy (uh, still married to her 1st husband when she hooked up with Gideon, then 2 months after hooked up with Liam, then immediately back to Gideon within a day). 6. Book 1 was actually a bit better than book 2, although York got on my nerves with his "I'll just explain this one thing to Cassidy and then get a mate in the breeding programme" ugh.
The two first books in this series in one boxed set - both stories dealing with vampires going against the rules and winning their mates nevertheless. Most of the contents covered dreaming of sex, wanting to have sex, talking about sex, and actually having sex (out of this world, naturally, what else), so I guess there was little time left to spend on developing what I would call a proper plot with something happening apart from dreaming or talking about or having sex, or even the characters, who often just seemed to be a mixture of various stereotypes thrown haphazardly together. What really saved the books for me was firstly, the actual storytelling, the narration style, which was good, and secondly, the humour intervowen in everything, which occasionally actually made me chuckle and snort.
I just finished the first book, A Mate for York in this 2 book set called The Program and I loved it! I enjoyed the storyline and how York and Cassidy found true love with one another. I really liked Gideon in this book and how kind and protective he was with all of the girls, especially Cassidy so I'm really excited to start reading the second book, A Mate for Gideon. I just finished reading A Mate for Gideon and even though I loved both books in this 2 book set of The Program, I must admit that I loved Gideon's story even more. Their story not only showed the true love that Gideon and Jenna had ALWAYS had for one another, but I enjoyed reading how they first met, fell in love and sadly what Jenna went through and endured by being with an abusive evil waste of flesh, Liam. Both physically and emotionally. He doesn't deserve to be called a man. I was SO happy that Gideon had Zane to talk to and help him to get Jenna back. it was also nice to see that the King, Brandt finally came to his senses and be man enough to apologize and admit he was wrong with how he handled things. My favorite genre of reading is Paranormal Romance so I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series and again, I definitely recommend this author of this series. Thank you SO much to my friend, Amanda Vermaak for letting me know about these great books!!
This box set features the first two books in The Program series. The story is about a race of vampires looking for mates. In book one, we have York meeting Cassidy, a human woman not in the dating program. Desperate for money, she applies to feed vampires, but she finds herself attracted to York. In book 2, we have Jenna who has joined the program to find Gideon, a vampire she'd met previously but who is not thrilled to see her.
I picked this up when it was free. The book relies quite heavily on sex scenes, although they aren't particularly interesting. For me, there was a lack of a connection between either of the couples and not much else going on. It was an okay read, but it didn't really grab my attention.
Charlene Hartnady has a unique ability to create fascinating storylines with exciting and stimulating paranormal characters that hold readers captive until the very end. York and Cassidy's story in book 1 was just as engrossing and captivating as Gideon and Jenna's story in book 2. I thoroughly enjoyed reading these dynamic narratives and look forward to more, more, more of Hartnardy's literary genius. If you enjoy reading paranormal romance, you must read one of Charlene Hartnady's books. I can guarantee it will not be the only one you will want to read - Great Stories filled with all of the good stuff!!!!!
This was an interesting introduction to the series. The first book left me feeling a bit like I might have missed other or earlier books in the series, but only slightly. Charlene does an excellent job of sprinkling in characters that you want to know more about. I loved Jenna and Gideon's story. I was rooting for them right away, even though the odds were stacked against them. If you like strong, musclely vampire books I definitely recommend this series.
Both books are definitely worth reading. The premise is believable in a world like theirs, and the setting fits as well. The stories are interesting, and I found it both funny and sometimes cringe-worthy when the vampires were talking about "rutting", aka sex. I'm not giving away anything more on that! This type of book, while entertaining, does sometimes make me very happy that I'm not reading about our world. Makes a good book, wouldn't want to live there. ✋🐺
I enjoyed the 2 books, the one king was an ass. However vampire King so I guess I could kinda understand. I liked the heroines and heroes. I enjoyed most of the sexy stuff, mammary glands cracked me up the 1st time boobs were call by that. I just wasn't expecting tits to be called by anything but what most men call them. the ending of Gideon book rocked. glad he got the ass hole liam. well onto the next book.
Very well written and I absolutely love each one. I recommend reading the rest of them. All 7 of them. These are exciting, suspenseful, very hot and steamy, fun and so much more. Excellent story lines in them. I couldn't put them down. I highly, highly recommend them. They are stand alone's but are so much better to read them one after the other. I highly recommend them all.
Written by someone who doesn't understand how the vagina works. Tightness has nothing to do with how often you have sex but how turned on you are, just got starters. Having your cervix bumped is also very painful so bigger isn't always better.
Otherwise, the usual "I'm chubby so I'm not desirable" fat shaming.
York is an Elite selection and in competition for a mate. As usual drama ensues and he fights for the chance to get the mate he wants. Crisis in protecting the first round of partner selections takes place in 2, Jenna is abducted, beaten by an ex, then rescued for her forever mate. Totally hot males, elite fighters, and ready to commit to the relationship.
Two convoluted tales about a breeding programme for humans and vampires. Each tale describes the story of the two vampires who were NOT on this programme, yet met human females. This was against the vampire King's rules. Mostly they are about sex with no real action at al.
This is a good start to a awesome series. I am going to have to get the other books. It had some excitement and wow the hot love scenes, yum. I like that all the males are definitely the possessive type but only so that other males stay away. The women aren't owned and have free will. I am loving this series. Thank you.
I like the premise of the story. But it was so weird and awkward. And Mammary glands to describe breasts. I get you were trying to show they were a different culture/species but this is vampires they live in the same world and should use similar words to describe things. It just gave me the ick and made it impossible for me to continue reading.
This has everything you look for in a Vampire book. Big strong Hot Elite Vampire Makes looking to be hopelessly in love and devoted to a human female. Loved it. Dana Lynn
I am not normally a fan of vampire stories but this set has been brilliantly written and kept me hooked from start to finish. Funny, romantic, exciting and so well written I can't wait to read the next in the series
Loved it. You meet these guys, and some of the girls, in Charlene's other series. Really digging the continuation. Love these grumpy, Totally Vampire guys! Am reading the other 4 in this series & starting on her next!!
100% LOVED this box set! I'm going to HAVE to get the rest of the series. I especially liked that the story carries over between books. Totally wishing I could get accepted into The Program!!!
Both stories are good. Two women who have been through hell. They had no clients two men could love them and treat they like gold. They are will fight for their mates. Happy reading.
I can't express how great Charlene Hartnady stories are and how wonderfully ingenious she is to intertwine so far m o st of the books with eachother it's like I know all these characters and they crossover 😊
This is a great start to a fun series! Human females are needed for the Breeding Program so the vampire race can continue. But these poor guys have no idea what they are up against with these women. I chuckled, cringed, gasped and smiled all the way through these books. Can’t wait to read more!
The trials and tribulations of 2 vampire warriors wanting to find a mate. With many laugh out loud moments with some of the things the warriors come out with. A fun and engaging read.
Really enjoyable, likening the variety of strong women, I think I like these more than the original series. It’s more fun than the two kings’ shenanigans
