“The living didn't matter except as far as they were useful to fulfill the wishes of the dead” Buddy read with Nancy :)
“I think it's only the beginning.”
OMFG!!! Is this series really OVER...? Na-uh, I don't believe it! It is seriously? Oh, thank the freaking gods!
This is the very first series I have read by Morgan Rice and I'm sorry to say this but it's also going to be my last! This was some of the worst kinds of torture. I had the hardest time getting through this book/series and if I'm honest I did a whole lot of page skimming on this last one because I just couldn't do it! Of Crowns and Glory is probably the most horrible series I have ever read!!! Like EVER!! I can't wrap my head around how anyone could have possible loved this series. The entire damn thing was just lacking anything worthwhile. Each and every book was pretty much a repeat of the last and the WHOLE thing was extremely predictable and unrealistic. I had to force myself to keep reading this garbage and I about quit several times. It was battle after battle... after battle, in every single book. How. How is anyone still alive after so much killing? I wanted to pull my hair out so many times while reading and I thought my eyes were gonna fall out from rolling them constantly! This series was a clusterfuck of tropes too. I thought the writing was strange, inconsistent and childlike at times. One more thing I also hated the ending so much! This series was just NOT for me!
*Also, It's a good thing I borrowed these books because I would never in a million years waste my money on this! Plus look at those covers they don't make any sense to me and really most of them are pretty ugly.*
Disappointing, disappointing, disappointing, disappointing, disappointing, disappointing, disappointing, disappointing! Did this have any originality? Nope. Weak storyline? Yup. Weak World-building? Yup. Weak character development? Yup. Where all of the characters plain, boring and idiots? Yup!
This was basically just a continuation of the eternal battle montage of the last installment. It was boring and lackluster with no sense of place, kind of like how Kingdom of Ash felt with all the many terrible battle sequences. It wasn’t even funny; it was just boring.
The sequel series bait in the epilogue seems to be just a cheap excuse for not tying the loose ends by the end. I appreciate that things are left to implication in some cases but this was so rushed that nothing felt resolved whatsoever. And who knows if there will even be a sequel series!
And I’m still low-key pissed that Jeva straight up replaced Felene as Thanos’ warrior woman friend. She’s a fine character in her own right but Felene was an absolute icon and the fact that she, being the only LGBTQ+ rep in the entire series, was written out of the story for no good reason makes my blood boil.
I did like Athena’s final chapter though. Got me in a way that only the king did before. Maybe I just like the jaded old people at their end because I, too, am a jaded old person awaiting death and recounting my past mistakes. Like reading this series, for instance.
{2.5 rounded down} Obviously having reached this far in the series, I can't deny carrying an attachment to at least some of the characters here. The main problem is that it feels as if the author tried jamming together large chunks of the Arthurian lore, but instead of spreading it across generations, the plot here took place less than 2 years, making things rather strained to believe.
Ok, so if you consider all eight of these books as one story (because, as I've mentioned several times now, they hardly count as individual stories on their own), it is an acceptable story. I am annoyed by the lack of relationship-building between Ceres and Thanos (they spent a lot of time "loving each other" and "trying to get back to each other" considering they barely knew each other when they were torn apart in Book 1... but alas, it was an adequate story to listen to while I did other stuff. I am not sure I would have considered actually READING it a good use of time, but for multi-tasking it was fine.
After all if this pain and brutal defeats Stephania is what? The right punishment would be to replace her physical beauty with physical ugliness to match her interior and have her live with it. The fights were great violent, gory and cinematic, but the resolution was meh! It looked like the LOVE was just tepid at the very end and not that worthy sacrifice.
I loved the entire series until book 6. Things started to feel rushed, especially knowing there were only two more books. I get to this one, already expecting the anger and disappointment that a rushed conclusion leaves. I give three stars because it's definitely rushed, leaving me disgruntled, but only a bit disappointed. It was still worth reading to have some sense of closure after everything that happens in the series, but just barely. It's the same length as other books in the 8 part series, but it took me twice as long to read through my eye-rolling and yelling like I do when characters in any story do things I find dumb or ridiculous or a character doesn't have the fate I like. I'm at a loss between 3 and 4 stars because the writing is still up to par with others but gods is this rushed, annoyingly rushed. Again I still recommend reading it if you got this far in the series. I am left a bit dissatisfied with the fate of a couple characters as well, but I guess that's what happens when an author rushes the ending.
This was the best book in the series. It ended the way I thought it would especially when he died, I was like meh no question here folks. If the entire series was written like this it would have been epic. There was no crap in this one. It was all need to be in this book. No extras. All pertinent information. The characters throughout the series grew.... and in a way I also think that they learned how to respect one another as a whole and as people. Not just the main characters. Still really short... but the best book of the series.

Really enjoyed this series overall! This novel seemed slow for an ending, but it was still very good! Great storylines, and characters! Quick and easy...the ending was well, not up to par...still good though!
This series had be completely sucked in and as with the others in this series it did not fail to deliver. I was apprehensive about how the series would finish. From the first book, it was easy to predict the ending however throughout the series it left you wondering, maybe, may not. I feel that whilst it finished how I thought it would, other loose ends were rapt up well and in a satisfying manner that does leave the reader hanging.
This is more like what I've come to expect from Morgan Rice. Well written - and edited (!) - with a lot of action, twists, bad guys etc. The meshing of the various peoples involved goes along way to a successful build up to a remarkable ending. I won't spoil it for anyone but if it is the last story in this series I shall just have to go back and re-read them all!
Spoilers This book for the price wasn't worth it but to finish off you just had to buy it. Good over came evil but there were some deaths that came to pay the price. I'm glad Steph... Got what she deserved in the end. I think that there could have been more to the book and there was a few loose ends so to speak left. And to me the ending has left it open to start a new series off with the children and some of the characters from this series if she wanted too. Very game of thrones inspired to me in my opinion just glad that love could conker all at least in the pages of a book....
Book is so good, I think Morgan rice missed or totally forgot the part about Thanos mother... That's why 1 star, other wise it's a good book and totally it's a very good series consisting 8 books she forgot about Thanos mother I think
I am glad the series is complete the amount of people that died across the 3 islands I am impressed that people still survive to the wedding. The deaths were too much and then ending seem like it's just the beginning.
Chanting someone's name, several times in each book, minimum. Charge! They charged. Always charging. "Spun away from the blade" spun away, many times in each fight. Which they are always fighting. Always. Cut their head from his shoulders. Seriously the main character alone must have beheaded 50 people. With others doing it let's take it to 100 beheaded people. Stepped forward. Someone always is stepping forward. Bags of weapons. Characters captured and stripped, breaking free and drawing a dagger to slit a throat. Where was the dagger? People surviving being run through and several others collapsing instantly with a knife in the chest.
Then how it wrapped up in a couple chapters. This series needed another book. Author got bored? It hits most of the tropes dead in the bullseye. It was a real slog. Characters seemed spurred by solely vengeance. Everyone. And the evil nobles (except Thanos, who is driven by vengeance and spurned infatuation *coughlovecough*) are all self centered copies of one another. Also, armor being absolutely worthless except when plot armor means it saves a major character, otherwise folks regularly stab right through them like tissue paper.
Ugh! This was pitiful and a horrible way to drag this last book out. I'm going to be brutally honest here, but this reminded me of how Game of Thrones TV show was written. It wad good up until S5 which was iffy, then S6 got too weird for me and a little more over an edge; S7 was horrible (except for the Battle of the Bastards episode which was epic) and then S8 was 🤢🤮 and had THE LAZIEST writing I've ever seen.
This last book, as brutally honest as I'm going to be, is S8 of Game of Thrones. I was so bored from so much repetition that I seriously just skimmed the rest of the book and realized I wasn't missing much. It wad dumb, and so disappointing since book bk5 and then starting at bk6, that's when things started going majorly downhill and did I mention this was the worst of them all? So glad I skimmed the boom and saved myself from listening to anymore and randomness in this final story too which also felt rushed at the same time. Such a disappointment for the last few books of the series. 😭💔
At first I thought the ending was too abrupt and unsatisfying, but then I realized there was an epilogue and thank goodness for that. All of our characters have their stories wrapped up tidily. Some people we love die heroically, some villains cause a lot of damage before they are vanquished, and some love stories are dragged out until we begin to despair of a happy ending. But never fear, it all comes to a great conclusion. I especially loved learning the inner thoughts of our characters. Knowing what motivated our villains made their actions that much more understandable and consistent, and I find that to be the mark of a great storyteller. And Stephania's ending--oh how wonderful that was. I could not have imagined a better ending to a wonderfully terrible villain. This saga was certainly bloody and the fighting and death were heavily present in each book, but the heart and heroism were also there and the final conclusion found a satisfying justice for every character left alive.
Phew, it's over and what a ride! I was lucky enough to be given this book and I loved it, like the rest of the series.
There is plenty of action, heroes and villains and imaginative scenes of brilliant fantasy that felt real, giving it a wonderful sense of place.
Some words of wisdom and lessons learned, however, I should imagine that as long as there are living beings, there will always be a struggle for power. Themes such as obsession, revenge, cruelty, magic and love are just some of the concepts that made this series a compelling read, that and great storytelling.
I think the story could have been produced with fewer books, but still, I would highly recommend this excellent fantasy.
A great series of eight books never knowing what's gonna to happen next where the next place the characters will be, or who the characters will be. Great excitement don't miss this series.
This may have been one of the best books in the series and the final one. It was a little more succinct and did not wander too much down paths that did not add value to the story line. Will se. e what is next from Morgan
It is a nice read, I liked it a lot and I would recommend these books to any one who likes a good fight, and a little magic. So with that said.....on with the next book.😀 I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this series. After listening to the entire series as audiobooks, and starting it mostly because I found the first book for free, I absolutely loved it. The entire idea of the series, the world, the characters, and everything else in between was unlikely anything else I have read before. I will admit I'm not sure I would have loved the series as much as I did if I had read it normally (as in had the physical copy), but the audiobook and the voice actor who read it was really great. Overall, I really enjoyed the way that as the series went on, the number of POVs grew and we got a glimpse what was going on not simply just with Ceres, but with others as well.
This book felt rushed in comparison to the others. I listened to this series while I was grooming dogs so it was busy enough to keep me interested while I worked but I don’t know I would have enjoyed it as much if I had been completely focused on only it.

Way too sentimental and emotional soap suds but plenty of interesting characters and plot twists (some too contrived) along with better than expected battle sequences that make it a worthwhile read.
