Saw the movie - loved it. Out of curiosity, I read this tiny novel. Must say the movie captured every aspects of this tiny book. In some ways, it reminds me of the well-written classic: The Phantom Toll Booth.
I liked how the emotions were personified and how personalities, friendships, long term memory, memory dump, train of thought, abstract thought, deconstruct etc. were creatively portrayed.
My favourite character is Sadness. I do love Amy Poehler's voice over on Joy.
Both the young 'uns and the older folks like me would love it.
I read this little book aloud to my brother! I was set on disliking the whole idea of the movie, finding the range limit of the 'Emotions' frustrating. I mean, firstly, human beings have WAY more than these 5 emotions! GAH. The only emotions that are present as characters in this book is Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust. For me, it was a immediate write off of interest. I dislike the idea of dumbing emotions down like that. Kids especially feel way more than these 5 things. Regardless of my disinterest for the movie, we found the little junior novelization for cheap. So my bro and I decided to read it and judge it. Together. Haha. As far as the story goes, I seriously felt like the character Fear through the whole thing. One of his lines was; " Boo! Pick a plot line!" Ha, basically, the story/plot just seemed pretty.... not my thing. I mean, the very idea of it just isn't that great. It isn't very 'Christian' at all- emotions are not the bosses of us.... God made us each with a SOUL. So, this kinda off fling of some little cutesie- feelsy idea, is centered around the silly idea of emotions being the head of the mind. Obviously, there are more emotions than this. However, let's say that for the sake of not going into some 7 hour in-depth physiological documentary, the writers decided to stick with just 5 emotions. Fair enough. However, for kids, a problem still remains! This book only shows Joy and Sadness 'getting along'- basically, the Emotions see that they must have the other for things to go smooth. Or whatever. Something. One thing that drove me crazy was the fact that Riley (the girl) literally was a brat to her parents... no excuses, and yet, no punishment. So, the problem I had with this story is that kids do not learn respect or anything. They do not learn how to be a human, who isn't always controlled by their emotions (As Anger showed us in this story, that isn't good.), kids aren't taught how to behave and understand that not all emotions are good things.... I guess my point is, the movie isn't downright awful, but it isn't good, either. It doesn't teach much in the large sphere. It's just some funzie story. I have only one thing I liked about this story, actually. Well, maybe two.

The second one sort of being the ending with Bing Bong. The fact he sacrificed himself was something honorable, but yeah, of course that wasn't given a huge point. Instead, it's more used for a tear jerking scene.

The reason i liked the book.... the saving grace, haha... Was Fear. Oh gosh I know it sounds weird, but that guy killed me! He had the best lines. I felt him. ;D The book itself actually had some grammatical errors... but hey. Overall, if I was very bored, I wouldn't mind watching the movie, but I still have some 'ugh' things about the story.
When Riley was born an emotion named Joy came into existence inside her mind. Joy was responsible for making Riley happy and creating golden memories. Then Sadness came along..33 seconds later. She makes Riley feel sad as you probably guessed. Later new emotions joined headquarters, there was Fear whose job it was to protect Riley from anything dangerous. There was Anger who was very passionate about the injustices of life. Disgust kept Riley from being poisoned, both emotionally and socially. If something required an "Ew" Disgust had it covered. When Riley is 11 her parents decide to move to Francisco, which turns Riley's life and emotions upside down. I loved the emotions characters and personalities, i liked Disgust, Joy, Fear and Anger the best. Sadness was too mopey for me to like. Riley's islands of personality all start breaking down after moving, Sadness and Joy get sucked out of headquarters and land in long term memory. Without Joy and Sadness Riley's attitude becomes disgusted, and scared and angry. Joy and Sadness have to return to headquarters with the core memories to save Riley! This was a fast read for me as I usually read more challenging books with lots more pages. A short read once in a while is always fun. Not to mention this is Disney. Disney always makes terrific and imaginative movies. I saw this movie in theaters and loved it. A very fun and colourful read. I love Pixar! Definitely worth reading if you love Disney movies like me.
A really great way to introduce kids to metacognition. Also a great way to discuss emotions and motives in characters. The book was sadder than I expected , but maybe only to someone who has watched their own kids struggle with adolescents. Reminds me as I head back to the 6th grade classroom that there is an awful lot going through the minds of 11 year olds all the time ! I loved the Anger character in the story.
Filmnya sendiri lima bintang, tapi entah kenapa engga gitu enjoy baca novelizationnya. Bahasa Indonesianya engga gitu mengalir, kerasa banget kalau kata 'x' itu terjemahan dari kata 'y' dan sebagainya. Apa karena nonton dulu, jadi ngebandingin? :p
Setidaknya mengobati kerinduan akan filmnya xD
Btw, kenapa buku ini berdiri sendiri ya, biasanya buku terjemahan selalu barengan sama buku aslinya, 'other edition' gitu. Librarian-nya mana, bisa dibenerin nggak ya?
This match the movie pretty good. I read this every night to my four year old and my two year old before going to sleep. They like to listening and keeping up with it and then we were able to watch the movie after and it follows the movie perfectly. I can see this being an easier read for a middle schooler.
My Slightly Sarcastic But Ultimately Honest Book Rating System:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 Stars): This book achieved legendary status in my personal library. I will likely reread it until the pages fall out (or my e-reader spontaneously combusts). Consider this my enthusiastic endorsement – you should probably read it unless you actively dislike joy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars): A truly excellent read! I enjoyed it immensely and would heartily recommend it to fellow bookworms. You might even catch me subtly pushing it into their hands. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3 Stars): Yep, it was a book I read. I turned the pages, absorbed the words, and emerged...unchanged. It was a pleasant enough journey, like a scenic detour that you wouldn't necessarily take again, but didn't regret. ⭐️⭐️ (2 Stars): This book existed. I finished it. That's about the highest praise I can offer. If you're looking for something truly captivating, maybe keep scrolling. This one's more of an "it filled the silence" kind of experience. ⭐️ (1 Star): Oh dear. This book and I did not get along. It was a literary tumbleweed in the vast desert of good books. Consider this a strong "do not recommend," unless you're conducting research on what not to do in storytelling.

The reason why this book only gets 2 stars Not a good book If you haven't watched this the movie .
The 1st thing I read on this app4 stars But I wish that there was a little more pictures instead of it all just being at the end Because I would really like it to be like other picture books like every page every other page has Actual picture Instead of you just using Instead of you just using your imagineation like Instead of you just using your imagine like say I hadn't watched it yet Like I haven't I haven't watched it out End I didn't know what happened I did not read I didn't watch The show until I and then I found this and I was reading it I really don't think that this would be a good book For people who haven't actually read it not like watched it So That's what I think this deserves2 star 2 stars That why I It deserves 2Stars
“she could to help Riley live a happy life. She thought it would just be her and Riley forever…But thirty-three seconds after Riley was born, someone else materialized at the console and started working the controls. Riley began to cry. “I’m Sadness,” the blue newcomer said to Joy, introducing herself somberly. “I just want to fix that,” Joy said, gently pushing Sadness off the controls. She pressed a few buttons and Riley stopped crying. As time went on, more Emotions showed up inside Headquarters, taking control whenever Riley needed them. And with each new Emotion, memories started rolling through in different colors, matching the Emotion that Riley felt about the memory. Fear’s job was to keep Riley safe. He guided her whenever she encountered something he”

Q) What was your least favorite part of this book? A) When Joy, Sadness, and Bing Bong were being evacuated from the Train of Thoughts. I also didn’t like when Bing Bong was trapped by Jangles the clown in a balloon cage.
Q) Would you recommend others read this book? Why or why not? A) Yes, because we already finished it.
Q) Who was your favorite and least favorite emotion from Inside Out? A) My favorite emotion was Joy. My least favorite was Sadness.
Though short overall, this book and story really brings out the true fun plus enjoyment of dealing with different emotions. Whether young, old, or in between, just about everybody who might read Inside Out can relate to life-adjustments (like relocating during school-hood) and all related quirks meanwhile! Very well-written. It enhances the film itself on all important counts.
We are extremely proud of you for reading “Inside Out: The Junior Novelization” by Suzanne Francis! after watching the movie as well. Okay, learned to what? to understand and express the emotion? I say this to show all feelings are valid, and it’s okay to be sad, happy or angry You can take what I have learned from this lesson and talk about your feelings, while also accepting that they each help you grow into the person you are. Love, Mom and Dad
DISNEY Pixars inside out. FAVOURITE CHARACTERS is Joy and Disgust. I like JOY because she leader of the other emotions And she's happy and she also makes Riley smile. And, I like DISGUST because I like the way she hates broccoli And most of all I hate broccoli and she's got a pretty look and a beautiful Dress.
I've never actually watched Inside Out (because I am too scared of feeling the feelings...) but this is one of my best friend's favorite Disney movies so she encouraged me to at least read the novelization. I'm glad I did! I feel like I am definitely missing the whole picture not being familiar with the movie, but it gave me a taste.
