It’s open season on federal agents, and Alexis Parker is the primary target.
What happens when allies can't be trusted? Federal agent Alexis Parker is about to find out. After taking some personal time, Alex is back at work and embroiled in an investigation to uncover a traitor inside the Office of International Operations. Her partner, Eddie Lucca, was assigned to flush out the mole, but this is bigger than just one agent, and he needs Alex’s help. Unfortunately, other cases keep getting in the way of their mission.
While being tasked with arresting an identity thief, Alex and Lucca take fire. This isn’t the first time that federal agents have been targeted, but this is their second close call in eight days. It’s clear someone wants Alexis Parker dead and is willing to pay substantially to see it happen. Now the OIO and the local police are in a race to identify the source of the threat and find the evidence needed to bring the party responsible to justice.
As usual, nothing is ever simple. The possibilities are endless. With cold cases turning hot and past enemies coming out of the woodwork, it’s nearly impossible to identify the source of the threat. Even alleged allies pose a substantial risk when one of Alex’s own colleagues is a duplicitous traitor. Lines have been drawn, but the only way to survive may be to cross them.

Another novel in the Parker series, and this one is a doozy. It started rather unexpectedly. Our favorite tormented female sleuth is suffering from a crisis (not of conscience) but of mortality. As she struggles with issues concerning her safety in her chosen profession, things are set on fire, people are wounded, and she struggles to come up with a plan to fix it. As usual, we see plenty familiar faces and a baddie from before. Although not one of the lighter storylines, it was a lot of fun with a few laughs dispersed throughout the tense moments. Can't wait for the next one.
I did not enjoy this book very much. I love the characters, Martin and Heathcliff are my favourite.
Although Alex is amazing, she was too guilt ridden for my liking, and it caused the whole ridiculous rift between her and Martin because she made him leave her and lied to him. It’s not good enough that she was protecting him, she should trust him more and make up for her betrayal. He spends too much time reassuring her, and she doesn’t do the same. Having said that, they’re a great match overall, glad there wasn’t a carryover of their problems to the next book.
I loved having Mercer and his merry band back in this novel, Bas is the best. It’s brilliant to have them help tackle Vito, and the plot is well written, but a bit slower and more convoluted than other books.
So, some great things in this instalment of the series, and some disappointing bits.
4 men from the past to help save the day, or life it seems
Alexis is too hard headed to learn from her mistakes when it comes to her relationship with Martin. She has a mob boss after her and she makes arrangements to truck Martin into going to London. Vito, from a previous book is a man with no scruples. He will kill anyone. In comes Mercer, Bastion, Hans and Donovan to help Alexis save the day. One mob boss dead and 5-6 of his minions. Will Alex get her happily ever after? Time will tell.
Someone is after Alex. A hit has been put on her for $250,000 and it's open season. She calls Julian Mercer and asked for his teams help. Martin is tricked and sent to London without her. When everything is solved and Martin is back he's very hurt and angry and says he wants to be alone.
I absolutely love this series. I am reading it for the second time. This one has so much mental and emotional plot lines. The characters are great. This particular book is trying to resolve an earlier villain's threats. Really good. I highly recommend this series.
I swear I turned into Alexis Parker as I read this book. She is everything I dream to be. Fierce, tough, courageous! This book is a page turner. I could not wait to see what happened next.
I couldn’t put this book down. The whole series so far has been fantastic. It keeps yo7 on the edge of your seat and incorporates, suspense, danger, and a little romance.
Alexis Parker is my alter ego. I have enjoyed all 11 novels to date. I look forward to continue reading more about her and her escapades. I especially like her choice of men!
This is one of my favorite series. The minute I finished one book I have to go to the next and started immediately. I told my mom about what I was reading and she started a couple days ago. She’s already on book 4.
For all fans of crime fiction, this book and this author are for you! Every book that I have read by G. K. Parks have been so incredibly well written that it was very difficult for me to put it down until I had read the entire book. This is an amazing author!
This series is just amazing! I can't read just one, I started with # 1 and just finished #11- they keep getting better! I can't stop, I just downloaded #12, and cannot wait! Alexis Parker is the very best- just love how she's grown as an agent and as a person!
I thought the plot line in this one was very good, and I really enjoyed Alex. The thing that bugged me was Martin. It was very annoying, and frustrating how he treated her.
I wanted to scream and yell many times at Alexis Parker. Even to the point of putting the book down and walking away. My heart broke for her and I had to keep reading.
I didn't usually write reviews but this series has been outstanding. Usually I'm done around book 3 but these have kept me interested so far too book 11.
This series is still one of my favorite series. I love the mystery in this book even though I had my (correct) suspicions early on. It was still a fun and interesting read. Alexis can be very frustrating at times but I understand why she does all the things she does. This book provided more insight into her childhood and helps explain a lot about her personality. There were moments in the book that worried me about Alexis' relationship with Martin so I am anticipating the next book in the series. It was also good to see some past characters back in this book. I am looking forward to book #12!
