In this exciting sequel to Phoenix Awakens, Nolan whisks her readers off to Istanbul where the Legend of the Phoenix is the centerpiece in a centuries old battle for power.
It’s been three months since Julia Long discovered she’s a magical being called The Phoenix, and she still hasn’t mastered her ancestral powers. But when a mysterious visitor provides evidence that Julia’s birth mother has been kidnapped in Istanbul, Julia must try to save her.
Meeting her mother's family for the first time is wonderful, but discovering there are other kids her age with magic is better, even if one of them is infuriatingly dark and handsome.
But not everyone is happy letting kids be kids. Some seek to use these gifted youth as pawns in a game of power and intrigue. And just by the nature of who she is, Julia's now the most powerful piece on the board. But if she doesn’t play her part perfectly, she could lose everything, including her mother.
Eliza Nolan was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She lived in Charleston, South Carolina for a few years, after which she returned to icy Minnesota—where she now lives with her unruly cat in a house smaller than your closet.

*My Thoughts*
From the Ashes is the second installment in author Eliza Nolan's The Phoenix series. 18-year old protagonist Julia Long recently discovered that she is the fabled Phoenix. The Phoenix, in this world, is a sort of magical creature that lived a few hundred years ago. Unfortunately, Julia's knowledge of the full extent of her powers, and the book that explains what she needs to know, is currently locked up in a Charleston Police Station where it sits after the events of the previous installment.
Wow!!! Book II is better than the first, and I loved the first one. Julia travels to Istanbul looking for her mom and meeting family members she didn't know she had, while trying to figure out the powers of the Phoenix and how to use them. Ms. Nolan doesn't let the reader down, with an awesome plot and strong characters, tying both books together and answering the unanswered questions from book 1. A great book for young adults as well as older adults. Anyone who love the fantasy/paranormal genre will love these two books.
From the Ashes picks up right where Phoenix Awakens leaves off. Julia is struggling to understand her powers and to figure out exactly which powers she has. Her friends are as supportive as they can be without really understanding everything she is going through. Then the bombshell is dropped on her and she must go to Istanbul.
What a rollercoaster ride this story was from that decisive moment!
I can't wait for the next book in the series to see where Eliza Nolan takes us in this journey!
From the Ashes continues Julia´s adventurous journey for knowledge about her powers and saving her mom, meeting the family she never had in a foreign country where she can´t be certain who is ally and who is foe. With her father in Charleston and the school year´s end fast approaching, Julia is enjoying her relationship, only slightly worried by the absence of her powers. But she doesn´t have to worry long - Libby´s bullying attitude wakes her rage and her powers. Immediately after approached by strange girl with envelope full of money, passport and letter from her mom, Julia and Graham take off to Turkey to find Julia´s mother and save her from the hands of kidnappers. The family reunion works quite well, but the unknown evil they face causes many problems and with Julia´s untrained powers and lack of control, they might very easily end up on the losing side. Full of magic and raw emotions, this addictive rollercoaster of a story provides and excellent reading experience. It went so fast and smooth that I finished the book in just couple of hours, barely breathing and tensed to my limits. I absolutely loved the unpredictable plot development, not mentioning the personal turmoils of the lead characters, and the opening rift in Graham´s and Julia´s relationship. I enjoyed the emotional variability very much, and I can´t seem to get enough of the characters. With the love triangle between Julia, Graham, and Kele, and the whole fated mate thing including Ferah, the story results into complicated and tangled situations making a mess of the characters´ lives. Awesome read, and I can´t wait for the next book!
Just as awesome as the first book! After a few pages I realized I was totally there with them on the ice rink. Sucked in and couldn't stop reading 'till the end. Full of action and passion too. Even learned a few new words of Turkish.
I received a free copy and this is my honest review.
This series just keeps getting better and better!! I felt like I was with a Julia being her sidekick during her journey. The author does a fabulous job depicting Julia's surroundings that I can picture myself there as well. There is definitely some action in this book as well as some surprises!! I was totally shocked on a few of them and I'm still in shock!! I love how Julia finally accepts her destiny in this book. It shows how her character has grown since we first met her. Julia is determined to kick some bootay!! Can't wait for book #3!!
This is one of the few book sequels that has truly followed through on the theme outlined in book one! I truly look forward to Book 3. Do Julia and Graham really belong together? What happens after the final Phoenix ritual? Read Book 1 and Book 2. I promise you will not be disappointed!
Eliza Nolan has done such a great job. Cliffhangers can be a great device to use if done correctly and Eliza has done it to perfection. I cannot wait to read the next book. Don't miss out on a great read.
We join Julia and Graham as they travel to Turkey to rescue Julia's mother. Meeting her aunt And cousins for the first time Julia must deal with their disappointment that she isn't trained. Julia keeps meeting Kele_ in her dreams. Who is he and what does he want? Who has her mother? These questions and more will be answered before the end of this story. I highly recommend this series.
This is the perfect second book for this series. Our heroine continues to grow in powers and slowly understanding what they are. The plot remaims thick with thrills and adventure as well as personal angst and emotions. The lead and returning supporting characters continue to develop and new strong additions are made. Totally enjoyable and totally recommended.
Eliza Nolan follows up the Phoenix Awakens with a bang. We have Julia and Graham fighting many battle fronts. Here they end up going to find out more of what it means to be the Phoenix and to save her mom. Along the way their bond is tested in ways I didn’t imagine. I think that Graham is right about them and how they can choose who to be with. For some reason that portion felt more forced because you could see that it was against everyone’s will when it came to being pulled towards someone. It was not a natural organic feel. Unlike Graham and Julia’s normal interactions where you see the love, support and respect. Those moments between Graham and Julia’s cousin felt forced and less real. You can see that it wasn’t desired and hard to see.
Graham is just as kind and patient in this book as the first. We see his understanding and love for Julia shine through as he is there for her no matter what. Watching them fight the unknown and learn more about what it means to be the Phoenix is intriguing and filled with danger and twists and turns. Julia’s family is interesting and piques your interest with who they are and their motives. As the history of the Phoenix unfolds, Graham matures and we see him emerge as the calm and rational one. Julia has moments where she is overwhelmed but you see why she is the Phoenix. The Phoenix should not want the power and should first have compassion and humanity before power and greed comes into play. Greed from others but also from the power within. When we see there is more to her becoming the Phoenix your mind reels as does all the secrets that are revealed and the struggles that the characters go through.
the story is action packed. Graham will have you swoon and root for him to win the fight and not have his world turned upside down due to some pull. He is so warm and real. He grounds Julia and keeps her humanity in check and I think she needs this in order to make it through being the Phoenix. I hated to see that greed and power take over some and cause them to do horrible things that aren’t who they are but it is understandable. I loved watching the kindness and understanding in Graham and how he was there for Julia no matter what. Seeing Julia come to terms and begin to face who she is was great as well and I think with Graham by her side she can face anything and hopefully they will continue to be side by side for a long time.
a great second book that is filled with action, maturity and growth. About seeing that humanity and compassion are what make us human and real. That it helps to ground us and allows us to see beyond the power and what is right and wrong. How love and having free will helps us to make choices that may not be easy but are right. How we fight for those we love and what we want and feel. A story on family and acceptance, love and honesty. About coming to terms with things and facing everything head on. With Julia in more danger than ever I am curious to see how her and Graham face the next phase in becoming the Phoenix and how they hold up both together and as individuals.
I received an ARC copy of this book and voluntary read and reviewed it: This is the second installment in Eliza Nolan’s The Phoenix series. This book grabbed me from the first chapter and I again was unable to put it down just like the first book! This time we are brought to a different country in search for Julia’s mom. We are told that she is alive and that Julia can help save her. While in Istanbul Julia meets some of her family members she doesn’t know she had, learns more about the Phoenix, and has a new guy come into the picture! Julia embarks on a crazy adventure, learns so many new things, and at the same time discovers a huge betrayal. I love how Eliza brings you into the world of Julia, how it is present day, and to so many others it is just a normal life where Julia is discovering she has these new powers and is meant to amount to so much more than she could’ve ever imagined. I have to say my favorite part of this book are the dreams I love how the vaguely give you information, at the same time break the book up and made me read that much faster. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys young adult paranormal books! If you do decide to pick it up I would love to know if you’re team Keles or team Graham??
Eliza Nolan has once again brought juvenile paranormal romance into the adult reading arena and I couldn't put it down !! Julia ( the Phoenix) is now in Istanbul on word her birth mother is still alive and in need of help. Once again her dreams guide her and they aren't all pretty. She meets other teens her age with powers and one , Keles gives Graham a run for his money !! Lots of twists !! And just when you think everything is alright, it's not !! 4⭐'s . I received a gifted copy and am voluntarily choosing to leave an honest and unbiased review. Great book for anyone 12-80 , who loves paranormal romance/adventure.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I've been enamored with Julia since the first novel in this series, and loved figuring out her powers alongside her in this book. She seeks out family members, gets involved in a few squabbles among friends and loved ones, and I can't wait to find out what will happen in the final phoenix ritual (presumably coming in book 3?). This book contains plenty of action and adventure, and is ya appropriate for younger readers that love indulging in fantasy.
Wow! I absolutely loved this book! This has to be one of my favorite series! I can wait to finish the final ceremony with Julia. I can’t wait to find out what happens with Graham. I wonder what happens with all the different Beshi. This is such an exciting series!
First of all if you haven't read book 1 I strongly recommend you do. The first book was good but this one is even better than the first. The MC is a girl I truely love. She found out she is a magical being and is thrilled to find out there are others her age that are magical too. The questions that I had after reading book 1 are answered to perfection. This is a young adult book but I as a adult love these kind of books. Hey, age is just a number right? Feel young and read this book.
