Through a mixture of personal stories and biblical teaching, Tania Harris shows how we can learn to recognize God’s voice in our everyday lives and follow his lead.
Stories of God talking to his people abound throughout the Bible, but we usually only get the highlights. We ‘God said to Joseph, “Go to Egypt,"’ and then, ‘Mary and Joseph left for Egypt.’ We’re not told how God spoke, how they knew it was him, or how they decided to act on what they’d heard.
In God Conversations, international speaker and pastor Tania Harris invites you into her own journey learning to hear God's voice. Share the doubts, fears, and wonder as she navigates her conversations with God in light of his communication with biblical characters. Part memoir, part teaching, this unique and creative collection of stories will help you to recognize God's voice when he speaks and to see what happens when we listen.

Tania Harris has written a really interesting dissertation entitled "Hearing God's Voice: Towards a Theology of Pentecostal Revelatory Experience", and so I thought that this book would be a more relatable and condensed version of that. That did not turn out to be the case, and there was actually very little theology involved in Harris' breakdown on hearing God's voice.
God Conversations is a collection of stories from Harris about how God has spoken to her about a range of things, from a pair of shoes to moving across Australia to pursue a job that did not exist at the time. Although I am often inclined to believe personal testimony (and I certainly believe that Harris did hear from God in these stories), these stories didn't really provide much insight into a theology of hearing God's voice, or how to discern whether or not you are hearing God's voice. Additionally, I noticed early on that some of the scripture she used to back up her points was misapplied, which left me quite skeptical of what she was teaching for most of the book.
If you are interested in understanding the theological foundation for hearing God's voice, I would recommend giving this book a skip and reading Harris' dissertation instead. God Conversations gives the reader some nice stories, but not a lot of substance behind them.
Our church is following Tanya’s course on *God Conversations*. I’ve been amazed by her ministry and have been devouring her content, especially this book. The book is about 80% of her own journey in hearing God’s voice, with the other 20% focusing on other people’s stories, and it’s fascinating. The combination of her academic prowess with a solid theological basis makes the book a captivating read. Tanya's writing style is also very engaging, and I had a hard time setting the book aside. I recommend her book both for those who have been on their journey with God for a while and for those who are just starting and want to understand what a relational God means.
God Conversations looks at the way God communicates with us in modern times (as well as the past, dating back to the Old Testament). It helps people, like me, who don't naturally hear God or have some doubt that God speaks to us in the way he spoke to the prophets of Old. It is interwoven with Tania's story about how she learn't to here God's voice for herself and her journey towards starting her ministry to help others listen and know that God is personally speaking to them.
I have learn't from reading God Conversations that God has been speaking to me all along. It is just a matter of 'tuning in' and learning to discern God's voice from my own thoughts and even the voice of the enemy. I also enjoyed that fact that Tania is Australian and I could identify easily with the setting and her own story. However, if you are not Australian it is still easy to read and understand.
If you are someone that harbours doubt about God's willingness to speak a personal message into your life - a message and calling that is unique to you - then this book is for you.
This book by Tania Harris shares her journey of listening to God and responding to how she believed He was leading her. There wasn't anything earth shattering or life changing about the material. She does explain a bit how to know and identify God's voice. She refers to Bible stories where patriarchs, prophets or even non-Jewish Kings heard from God. She believes all can hear from God but it takes practice to listen and know His voice.
