It's A Bird! It's A Plane!: A Superhero Anthology (Superheroes and Vile Villains Book 1) World Domination: A Supervillain Anthology (Superheroes and Vile Villains Book 2) A Supervillain Anthology (2 Book Series)
Haven't gotten to read the supervillian one yes, soonish I guess, but this one...There were a couple of stories that jerked back and forth in the timeline, and did not do that well, just confusing the story and who was talking and in some cases not being about to tell when people or scenes switched or what was present versus past {and at times the tense seemed wrong}, so that is the good and the bad of an anothology, you might read new or new to you writers but if they were not what you would normally prefer to read {versus some of the writers you definitely would}, that's going to knock down the whole score. An example of that is the reason was offered the arc was rhett bruno, like and am used to his writing, and some of the ones did not know could get used to but a couple or so of them, nu uh never.
"I'm just the guy who picks up trash" Short stories can be disappointing, but when done well they are superb, condensing into a few pages the entire emotional content of a full novel - and sometimes even more. This cleverly themed superhero book contains twelve stories, each very different and each in it's own way excellent. From the full muscled and Spandex wearing champion flying to the rescue which we have all come to know and love, through the wanna-bes and has-beens to the "geek ... short, dopey and hopelessly uncool." And each brings a new insight into the hero's life: have you ever wondered how hard it must be to maintain a hidden identity today with modern social media and everyone with access to a camera on their phone? It's hard to single out any for special mention but for this reader, The Roach Rises, by Rhett Bruno, Photo Op, by Christopher Valin, and Cleanview, by Hall and Beaulieu, stood out as really fresh, insightful and unusual glimpses from the inside. Each is well written and a delight to read, as, indeed, are all twelve of these tales. A perfect pick up, put down book when time to read is short, so get it now and enjoy. Highly recommended
This is the first in a series of collected short stories by various authors. The collections alternate between short stories about superheroes and supervillains. The odd number books are superheroes and the even number books are the vile villains. Mnay of the authors say they were influenced by comic books while growing up. But these aren't like the mainstream comics that you might be familiar reading. These are more "realistic" takes on what it would mean to have superpowered beings in the world.
Of the four current volumes, the first volume was my favorite. The stories stuck the closest to the premise and presented original well-formed stories. From heroes just starting out to those that were at the end of their hero career, the stories focused on how the heroes fit into their worlds. The stories felt complete and not just a teaser for a series that the author wanted you to try.
Every story had the views expressed in deeds and actions of the heroes view or someone who was close to them by relationships or just the janitor(one of the better ,not ever seen results, of a super hero finding out about just how much it takes a toll) or a small boy getting saved realizing exactly what he wants to be when he's older ,told in backflashes as he saves someone not happy with super heros. A granny that fixes death and then finds more! All the stories lead you to rethinking superheroes even the ones we already know from movies! Couldn't stop reading one after another, plus if a certain writer hits your this is great button there are (go to,) attachments to see more of their work! Can't wait to get to the villains next!!!
Before I go further, Cleanview is my favorite. I love the perspective of the janitor talking with the superhero. I especially love the final thoughts he shares. I was truly inspired by them.
Okay this is a big one. If you have not read the full length version of The Roach, do it now! I was ecstatic to see the original short story gotten here. I'm glad he decided to make that one into its own novel. I would love to see The Roach on the big screen. Mr. Valin has a good story, too. Overall, I felt like this was a good, solid anthology. Nothing was especially bad and there are some AMAZING gems in here. Cleanview and The Roach alone were enough to validate this book as worth my money.
It's been a while since I read a book this interesting. I was torn between finishing it as fast as I could and taking my time to read it so as to enjoy it longer. Loved the characters. The characters weren't perfect and had flaws of their own which was part of the appeal for me, and the book included everyday heroes in addition to the powered ones. The book left me wanting to know more about Charlotte and her world, the janitor, and the Roach. Wish I could read it again as if for the first time.
A Collection of Short Stories by SB (IABIAP) (ASA) (SAVVB - 1)
SB has collected various authors who are comic book junkies like himself. I found the stories covered a wide range from juvenile to adult comic book hero situations. Comic book junkies will love this collection. However, as one who read an original Superman and Batman I found the short stories interesting, especially the one about the alien girl. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
This anthology was a really interesting read. From the first story to the last, I was sucked into different heroes and their stories. Each story brings something different to the table and all are equally well-written.
In an anthology I usually have a favourite story, or dislike one out of the bunch, but not this one! Well done!!! Now I need to get the sister anthology.
Good collection of stories. A few were great and made sad they were just short stories. Overall I enjoyed just about every story in here, good variety in the chosen pieces. Would definitely recommend, along with the supervillain volume.
I’ve been reading superhero stories for almost 60yrs and I have to say this is one of the most unique and enjoyable collection of short stories I’ve ever read. Well done, Pstr!
I love that this book has characters that aren't your standard superheroes. Gives a whole new spin on the idea of superheroes. I look forward to reading more of each author's work.
It's a Bird! It's a Plane! is the light side to the World Domination: A Supervillain Anthology's dark side. But don't get me wrong these eleven authors have really rocked the superhero world, these supers are different, refreshing and I loved them all but I will only tell you about a few.
Geek Gurl Rising from Chris Pourteau: How exactly does a superhero get his or her powers?Lightening strike? Bash on the head? From believing you can do something so much you can do it?
The Paladin from Kevin G Summers: Do all superheroes have superpowers or can they just have a big heart? Case in point, Jared Weiss superhero or vigilante?
Photo OP from Christopher J Valin: Black Harrier gets his picture taken on a cellphone while in the middle of a operations and now he needs it gone before the owner can post it on social media and his cover is blown. He manages to play the bumbling boss and delete it off of her phone but doesn't count on her phone being backed up to the cloud. Now the clock is ticking for the Harrier and his sidekick the Red Raptor to find the cloud service and delete the picture before Harriers cover is blown for good.
The Spotlight from Jeffery Beesler: How much of being a super hero is actually being a superhero and how much of is it a act and being a actor or actress. It think the superhero Myna Byrd would be the best one to ask that question too.
These are awesome stories from some of the most talented authors around and if you don't know them, than this is the best way to introduce your self to them as you get a little bit from all eleven of them. Even though I started with one or two I still find more and more that I have not read and love every time I get another of these awesome anthologies.
