Mary Bennet, now financially secure with the entailment to Longbourn dissolved, concentrates on how to rectify the deficit in her education. Unfortunately, each tutor is dismissed within weeks of hire as none meet her exact needs or prove to be critical of her desire to obtain a man's education. It is only with the arrival of Grayson Everfield that her prayers are answered. The handsome, educated man appears to be all that she is seeking, but how does his presence affect her standing relationship with Dr. Atlas Sutton? Unfortunately, perfection is not what it seems to be as human remains are found on the edge of the Longbourn estate, sending Mary and Atlas in a race to discover his identity.
In this Pride & Prejudice sequel, now that Longbourn and Mary Bennet are financially secure she decides that employing a tutor is appropriate to fill in the large gaps of her education. All the tutors are failures until Grayson Everfield arrives for an interview. But when a body is found Mary and Dr Atlas Sutton are once again investigating. Another re-read of a lovely well-written mystery with Mary shining. Another enjoyable re-read.
This is a continuation of The Mary of Longbourne series and is probably better than the first. Mary decides to use some of the money she found to hire a tutor in sciences. Unfortunately they don't believe a woman can understand science and they are each subsequently fired. The last one is a University friend of Darcy's who just happens to be in Meryton. The same time Atlas discovered a partially buried body of a man who no one recognizes. The story revolves around the search for his identity and then the search for the thief that has stolen items from both Longbourne and Netherfield. I enjoyed this because there's a resolution to the issues around Mary and her Doctor. She's finally decided that they will fit!!
I have enjoyed the second novel by this author, and I look forward to reading about Mary dealing with her ridiculous sister and cad of a husband. Once again Mary and Dr. Sutton solved the murder of an innocent victim who was an old friend of Darcy 's. In fact, Darcy also knew the murderer who happened to be related to Mrs. Reynolds. Mary and Dr. Sutton will eventually have a happy ending.
I like that this was mostly about Mary Bennett. I always felt the original didn't do much with this character. The plot wss interesting, yet, ridiculous. How could a doctor, not realise that the victim was who he was? I'd think he would've known who his was as Doon as he heard about the distinctive injury. The grammatical and editing errors distracted me from the story.
I don't know how I feel about splitting the story between points of view with the villain, meaning the audience knows the truth but characters don't. I think it wasn't handled badly but there were definitely moments where I was like ‘you literally just found out the og guy was terrified of horses and here this guy is confidently riding one come on’. Too much convenience to make a mystery? But the character dynamics were well done. Atlas and Mary are cute. It's a very “ignore societal norms of the time to enjoy the story” type of thing though. Suspend your disbelief.
Another great pride and prejudice mystery. I am loving this series! I love Mary Bennetts character and the dr. I love having a good story to read and this did not disappoint!
Another great Mary mystery! Tutors for a woman who wants a man's education are hard to find.... But death, thievery, lies, ice box, accidents and .... Yes I love a good mystery especially with our dear Mary!
The mystery is wonderful. I have always been drawn to books about the misunderstood middle Bennett daughter. Loved both the books of this series. Look forward to reading more.
