At first a dream come true to Kate after her husband's tragic death, the man who becomes her guardian angel--who anonymously repairs things around the house--crosses the boundaries into obsession and madness to become her greatest nightmare.
In this 1994 romantic suspense, Kate Eldridge works part-time as a waitress, trying to keep a roof over the family's head and food on the table. Her husband Michael has been laid off at the plant. He dies in a car wreck with another woman.
Deputy Park Sanderson dated Kate before her marriage and he breaks the bad news to her. He also notifies the dead woman's husband Cal Jeffries.
Someone is watching Kat and her 2 kids. Someone has been in her home -- fixing things, leaving gifts.
Cal is creepy but I liked Kate. She believed in her husband and her marriage. I related to her working and protecting her kids. She had a lot of hidden strength. I felt creepiness but not too much suspense. I would have preferred to not know who the stalker was until the end but that would have re-written the entire book.

This was one of the first books I read when I was venturing away from 90s YA horror and into more adult mysteries. I was quite enthralled by the TV-movie-style tale of a woman stalked by a man who believes they belong together. It was also my introduction to the joys of purchasing castaway mass market paperbacks from the newsagent at a bargain basement price!
