In her battle against demon assassins, Ella Grey pulled too much power and it nearly killed her. To save her, Damien and Deb had to cut Ella off from her magic. Desperate to rescue her brother from the vampires but powerless to help him, Ella must find a way to control the reaper that's nearly gnawed through her soul and get her magic back. When madman and necromancer Phillip Zarella offers her a solution, it's too tempting to pass up. But making a deal with the devil always has consequences. And worse, Ella discovers that her brother is the prize in a tug-of-war between Zarella, tycoon Jacob Gregori, and the all-powerful mages. She needs every advantage she can scrape together, or she'll lose her brother forever.
Demon Born Magic is the third book in the urban fantasy Ella Grey Series. Don't miss this thrilling world of magic, danger, and sacrifice in the battle against dark forces.

Did you Comely Decapods see my stupendously compelling non-review for the previous instalment in this series? You didn’t? Why am I surprised? You are known for your spectacularly hopeless lack of judgment, after all. Anyway, the reason I ask is because said review encloses vital information about this series. Yes it does. And when I say vital, I mean life-changing, earth-shattering-type stuff. I kid you not.
Err…No I didn’t. But hey, if you have a sudden craving for a vegan, organic, gluten and GMO-free meat lover’s, I can give you Luigi’s number. Not sure he does basement coffin deliveries, though.
Sorry about the interruption. My good pal N. from Transylvania is staying with me for the Holidays, and keeps distracting me whenever I sit down to write thought-provoking reviews.
So, where were we? Oh yes, we were deeply regretting that you hadn’t read our previous musings about this series (yes, I’m feeling quite royal today, and going all first person plural pronoun on you). A shame, really. Yes, a shame indeed. Anyway, given that I revealed tons of essential stuff about this series in my review for book 2, I won’t bore you by rehashing the details (which is very unlike me, as you well know) and will stick to a Quick Maths Thingie (QMT™) instead:
Whip-wielding damsel in no bloody shrimping distress + super cute labradoodle hellhound (hell-fire eyes, XXL razor teeth and smoking hide included) + NECR2 virus + surly dragon oracles + yummy demons + kitchen sink travelling + VAMP2 virus + Super Extra Hot Reapers (SEHR™) + wacko mages and devious witches and treacherous bastards oh my + Poof Gone Magic (PGM™) + unlikely switchboards + no no no no no no Jayne Faith I can’t believe you did this why are you so evilly evil, woman??!! + Kate Daniels vamp-style zombies (I’m sure Ghastek approves) =
➽ Nefarious Last Words (NLW™): this book is Slighty Very Good (SVG) and stuff. And quite possibly the best instalment in the series and stuff. You are quite welcome. And stuff.
Well well well, looks like there's hope for UF with female leads yet. Will wonders never cease and stuff?
I'm with you on that one, Georgie. Who the fish would have thought such a feat was still possible? This is most extraordinarily astonishing indeed.

Unfortunately this series just seems to be going more downhill for me with every book. I feel like I should finish it because there's only one book left and I can get them on audio from my library, but also at this point I have little to no interesting in what is going on. I thought I would be more interested when she finally rescues her brother but that comes along with a sort of ~chosen one~ story line that makes me roll my eyes, the sudden romance with Rogan [sp?] is weirdly annoying even though I never liked Johnny either, and every time the coven leader woman is on-page I just want to strangle her. At this point I'm hoping I can listen to the last one just to finish out the series, but I may change my mind in the next month.
Jayne, you're seriously killing me with these cliffhangers. Seriously. This installment picks up right where Dark Harvest Magic left off and just keeps getting better. Ella is so close to finally rescuing her brother, but the reaper is also so close to completely devouring her soul. Cut off completely from her magic, Ella is temporarily safe from the reaper, but vulnerable to pretty much everything else. There is so much that goes down here that it's crazy. We have a meeting with a sulky, oracular dragon, an underground Underworld society, more shenanigans from the stupidly power greedy Lynette (she kinda gets a bit of what's coming to her, but I've got my fingers crossed that her nasty ass gets totally destroyed at some point), the results of Damien's extracurricular research and projects, more insight into the world of the reapers, and a huge bombshell of a reveal about Ella and her brother. Book 4 can't hit my Kindle soon enough. Stayed up waaaay past my bedtime to finish this. After the events of the last few chapters, I'm totally hooked.
I liked the first two books more than this installment. It’s so damn irritating when the lead character does such reckless and stupid things, I was literally shaking my head. Ella, WTF?! Go against everyone’s advice Bc....why? They don’t know/understand how important your plans are? People trying to keep you alive and you’re stupid enough to thwart their efforts Bc you’re an immature brat who wants to play the martyr. Charging ahead into scenarios you know nothing about, and being reckless with dangerous new magics (brand new, and no one to teach you) that could get many people killed. Either I’m too old to be reading this shit, or the writing of this one was more juvenile than the rest. Regardless, I don’t feel like reading any more of this series.
(3.5 Stars) "Demon Born Magic" is another great read in the Ella Grey series. Ms. Faith is truly gifted in writing intrigue and action scenes. This time Ella has much more on her plate: a jealous lover, a strong new connection with Rogan and a new job.
As Damien and Ella form a new agency (king of a paranormal PI firm) their first client is Phillip Zarella, someone neither of them are too happy to work for. Yet, he promises rewards that can't easily be turned down. He has a way to quel Ella's reaper in essence keeping him from taking any more of her soul and restoring her magic. Additionally, Zarella will give Damien something he has longed for, becoming a mage.
As Damien and Ells realize that they cannot turn down this offer she is mandated to go to see the Dragon oracle. Additionally, she is required to join the Society of the Underworld. These tasks will set Ella and her friends down a course that will change her life forever and not necessarily in a good way. However, Ella is determined to get the reaper under control and rescue her brother.
While I enjoyed this read and Ms. Faith's detailed action scenes she is less than detailed in other areas of her writing. Her version of romance is we kissed and the next day I left. Really? Ms. Faith, you do not have to outline every romantic action but you can definitely do better than this!!!!!! I will go on to read the next book in the series and I am hoping that Ms. Faith decides to give us better on the romantic front.
This originally appeared at The Irresponsible Reader as part of a quick takes post to catch up--emphasizing pithiness, not thoroughness. --- Ella now knows where her brother is, but she's been cut off from her power, so she can't move on it. Due to her lack of power (and some other stuff—including a total and inexplicable lack of due process), she loses her job. She and Damien start a private consulting business, make a Faustian deal and will deal with the consequences over most of this book and the next. Along the way, Ella learns why her brother is off the grid.
The luster has really worn off this series for me. I think it's possible that Faith will stick the landing and I'll be happy with the set as a whole, but I think she's squandered a good start. If there was more than one book left, I'm not sure I'd bother.
Well hell. I really liked Rogan and loved where this was going. Just when things look they were finally going Ella's way, all hell breaks lose again. And the people she thought she could count on let her down.
Things definitely keep on moving, and Ella's decisions aren't always the best, but she tries and that includes letting in people. Something she normally isn't good at. But, things just don't seem to want to play out for her. At least the coven hasn't completely let her down and neither has her best friend and canine companion.
Finding Evan was the easier part, but freeing him to lose him again and again, just didn't seem fair. Learning her family's secret, and aligning herself with someone she never thought she would just to free him led her to losing even more than just Evan. Strangely, half of her alliances since book one are no longer available, and the new ones that have cropped up are not always the best thing for her.
Book 4 hopefully finds Ella's luck improving. New abilities and stronger magic are nice, but not if she keeps losing the people she cares about.
Fast paced UF with a kicj ass heroine. Ella was slightly less prone to running off half cocked and making stupid decisions this time which was good. I liked the development in her relationship with Rogan so was less than happy with how that turned out. But on the other hand there was really no other way for it to go given who and what Rogan is. Things are certainly heading in an interesting direction with Damien. I do feel sorry for Ella though. She just can't catch a break. Enough is enough - you don't have to keep piling disaster after disaster on her to make a story. There is enough going on already. Oh and I love labradoodleXhellhound Loki.
Jayne Faith delivers another thriller in this third in the Ella Grey series. You can't resist Ella, the heroine, who has a full and giving heart and wants only the best for her friends and family. Still plenty of paranormal action along with some unexpected twists and turns you won't see coming as well as some tears and sadness. Please do enjoy this series in order and experience a nice clean read. There is a cliffhanger at the end but not anything that interferes with the book itself.
There is so much that happens in this book it’s impossible to review it properly without giving anything away.
All I can say is that there is loss and betrayal, support and friendship all in unexpected places. Everything got turned upside down and back to front in this book. It’s a bit of crazy ride, but totally and utterly gripping. Clear the decks before starting this books, because you won’t want to stop reading to look after real life!
Well, it's still a good book, but it's starting to suffer from the Dragonball Z effect: Ella gets into a problem, mysteriously gets an upgrade to her powers so she can get through but is soooo damaged and tired and really needs weeks of rest. Ten minutes later she does the whole thing again. It gets dull when you read about her getting into a situation, and you already know that something random will spring into existence to help her out.
I'm predicting that she will become the greatest mage everrrrr in the last book.
I love this series! I found the first book for free on BookRunes, and I just couldn't put it down. Good thing I had time off during the holidays to read the rest of the books in the series. My only problem with this book is that the copy editor needed to do a better job. There were WAY too many typos for a professionally published book. Hey, if Jayne needs a copy editor for future books, I do editing, and I come at a reasonable price. :-)
Even with all the copy errors, this is a fun book in a delightful series.
Book 1 was a great book that I really enjoyed. Book 2 was good but it fell flat against the expectations coming out of book 1 but book 3 is back with a vengeance. By far the best book in the series so far. The story and plot are moved along nicely with a lot of major character development. The book brings all kinds of emotions too....be prepared for a hell of a roller coaster ride with the feelings.
Honestly, a lot happens in this book. It made for an engaging and enjoyable read. Bring on book 4 so I can see how the chaos plays out and see just how Ella's story comes to a conclusion.
this series gets better with each new book. Ella Grey is a woman who will keep fighting no matter what the consequences are. Rescuing her brother is her priority even with job loss, death of a friend, Lynnette and Jacob throwing obstacles in her way. Damien's change is jaw dropping, making you say WTH. But, when all is said and done, Ella Grey is stronger than ever before and sassy enough to get what she wants most of all.
Ella has one purpose in life and that's to find and rescue her brother. She also has some friends that are always willing to help her. When she accomplishes her goal, things happen that aren't expected and nothing will be the same. There was a touch of romance but it will leave you broken hearted and some betrayals you knew were coming.
Absolutely loving this series. It just seems to get better with each book. Bit of a rollercoaster ride with a bit of romance, some heartache and some demon and vamp action. Ella finds out more secrets about her family and has some magical surprises. I was disapointed to get to the end of this book and can't wait for the next one in the series.
Great I am waiting on the fourth book. it really keeps my interest. When I start reading. can't put it down until i get to the ending. So if you start reading dont start at nite. Otherwise u will be up all nite. I know, I have stayed up all nite. to finish. Next time I am going start during the day. Thank you for your imagination and writing.
I am still liking these books. But, geeze will Ell ever catch a break? Just a couple days to recoup? It is a series that has kept me up most nights reading. I really want to give it five stars but for me unless there is good that goes along with the bad in any book I don't. This is a series I will remember.
Two books were packed into one for this book. I’m not complaining though. The storyline advances and complications are beyond my wildest dreams. I really liked this book more than the 2nd one and was glad to see Ella return somewhat to the humorous character of the 1st novel.
Ok so Ella doesn’t turn into a genie but she starts learning more and more about her reaper powers and who she can really trust in this book. Can’t wait to see where her new powers lead her. I also can’t wait to see how Deb’s life and future baby come into play.
This story keeps you on your toes! Get all the books at once because you will not stop. I keep rooting for Ella, the underdog in the mess no of her making. Can she save all she loves? Who will be sacrificed? What are the motives behind the actions. Each book brings you forward answering a little bit each time. Worth the read.
So I found this one a little better than the other 2 however I still struggled with it. I kinda feel since I have listened to all of these bar the last one I should at least listen to it. I just find the storyline isn’t going anywhere, the romance aspect comes and goes, but just goes and never gets anywhere. The tasks she has to do seems to drag out.
I’m not sure how I can be impressed by the plot progression the author has put together while also passionately wanting to slap the main character that same author has created.
It was also uncomfortable seeing the progression of the relationships the main character had. I still have whiplash trying to keep up with the forced nature.
Love the series and love this book. Can be read as a stand alone but it's better if u read the whole series. There are ups and downs and definitely more power in Ella's future.
It's hard to really describe how I felt about this book. I really enjoyed the first two, but this one sort of went downhill for me in terms of the romance, character building, and plot. Towards the end I found myself skimming.
Absolutely great 3rd book in the 3 book series. Really HATE having to wait for #4. I'm not very patient when I'm invested the the characters, like Ella, Deb and Damien. I want to know what happens, like immediately. Read it in one day, couldn't put it down!
