Hirohiko Araki ( 荒木飛呂彦) is a Japanese manga artist. He left school before graduation from Miyagi University of Education.

He enjoys the baseball manga Kyojin No Hoshii (Star of the Giants); the video games Mario Kart and Bomberman; and likes Prince and other African-American singers, as well as jazz, rock, and rap.

He is a recipient the Tezuka Award for manga.

And also, I love the backstories. Everyone has a past here, and everyone has their own reasons to fight. Which is really intriguing.

Quando ho letto i primi due capitoli di questo volume ero a tanto così dal dare due stelline, non perché il combattimento fosse brutto, anzi, la battaglia contro In A Silent Way è stata decisamente al cardiopalma.

Il motivo è che facevo il tifo per Sandman, avrei voluto che vincesse lui la corsa e volevo sapere di più sul suo conto. Invece è venuto fuori che era uno degli antagonisti, per quanto per motivi "nobili", ed è stato prontamente levato di mezzo. Sigh.

Antipatie e simpatie personali a parte, però, questo volume mi è parecchio piaciuto. Le modalità di funzionamento dello Stand Sugar Mountain erano parecchio affascinanti, quasi da fiaba - apprezzo come Araki continui a far evolvere il concetto di "stand", fino a trasformarlo in qualcosa che può riguardare un luogo e staccarsi dalla forma classica di una personificazione della forza combattiva di un essere umano. Le interazioni fra Johnny e J.Lo mi piacciono moltissimo, hanno un rapporto così affiatato, pur con tutte le distanze e gli egoismi personali che li separano, che capisco l'amica che mi aveva descritto questa parte come "Brokeback Mountain coi dinosauri".

Infine tutta la sequenza di lotta contro lo stand Tatoo You è stata psichedelica a dir poco, iper-coinvolgente e mozzafiato fino all'ultimo secondo - anche se Araki ha deciso di risvegliarli tutti, i traumi, al povero Johnny.
