What a sneaky little read. Didn't expect it to be quite heartbreaking. Living with a family who cares for her so little, Frannie willed herself to be somewhere else , to be in someone else's life until for some magical reason she finds her consciousness bouncing from one person's life to another.

It's very sad that she has to learn and experience love, acceptance, care and confidence through other people and not from her family. She had to live the lives of other people in order to know she's deserving of love and care. That's really sad and yet it could be true. And that's what I appreciate about this middle grade novel because it's bold and honest and not afraid to address the truth about uncaring and awful families. Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers inspiring Frannie of self-love.

This book was pure amazement. It was kind of like a cookie, you take a bite and then you just can't stop eating it. I have never been so addicted to a book than I was to Bounce. I read about 100 pages each day.

Bounce was a mix of creativity, wonder, comedy, and the love of family. Frannie is a spunky, positive, and fun twelve year old in seventh grade. She feels like her family doesn't appreciate her, and when her parents announce a Christmas trip to Hawaii, she is so disappointed and angry. She has to stay home with her brother that barely speaks, and her sister that seemed to hate her. The first night home alone, Christmas Eve, Frannie flops down onto her bed in frustration and discovers a different world.

She wakes up in the body of a girl named Dakota with an amazing family and a puppy and a Christmas tree with gifts stuffed under it. She has horses and lives in a beautiful, cozy log cabin. Frannie has to overcome the fear of riding a horse, and ends up loving the experience. Next, that night, she finds herself in the body of her sister Carmen's favorite singer whose name is Jasmine. She has to overcome the glory and fame and stage fright, and learn how to sing on stage and do an interview. But they come just as easily as riding a hose. She has a good friend too that is always there for her and is very kind. Next she finds herself in the body of a girl named Blue who is on a ship with her family and she meets a cute boy. After all of those bounces, she finally finds herself in uncomftorable conditions. First, she is in the body of a girl named Gracie who has to overcome the death of her sister on Christmas Day! She feels very sad and close to her family even though she has never met that sister. Next she is in the body of a girl she saw getting bullied on the bus, named Josie. This part of the book had the most meaning to me and went into my heart. Josie and her mother, Jess, were looking for jobs and living at a cheap, run down motel called Flamingo motel. Josie had lots of scrapes and scabs and dirty hair. They had to get food from the garbage. When looking for a job opportunity they found FRANNIES HOUSE! Frannie was so happy to see her brother and sister again. Apparently the other Frannie was in her room at the moment. Josie was offered food and a shower and clothes, and she took them all. Carmen was being so generous and I was so amazed by how someone so mean could become so thoughtful and kind. After this last bounce, Frannie was back in her own body, with souvenirs from her bounce journey. She had discovered what family meant, even if hers wasn't the best ever. But she had to admit, her family had changed too. Even Carmen said she was acting more spunky. She was more close to her family. She even became best friends with Josie, and after Frannies brother offered them money, they could move into a community center/apartment that was much nicer. This story was so beautiful.

This was probably one of my favorite books ever. I first came across this book online and fell in love with the sample. Then I cried because I couldn't even finish it at the bookstore. When I finally bought it I wanted to cry again but with happiness. This book drew me in more than almost any book. I'm sorry to people reading this if the plot doesent seem to make any sense, but it will if you read it. ;) This book was so amazing. It sucked me in! I would reccomend this to everyone everywhere and especially tweens and teens. This book changed my life and is one of those books that will stay with me forever. Not many books can do that, but this did. Thank you so much for writing Bounce, it changed my life!

Three cheers for Megan Shull's new book, Bounce!!! This book feels like a combination of Wendy Mass's 11 Birthdays and Megan Shull's The Swap, and it is the perfect blend for readers who love these books. I teach middle school and my students LOVE The Swap. That is why they are counting down the days till Bounce is released. Having just finished reading Bounce, I know they will LOVE it too!

Megan Shull's distinct writing style and voice shines through in Bounce, and readers will immediately feel like they are back with the voice and style they loved so much in The Swap. Bounce has new characters but the same heartfelt messages and themes from The Swap. While reading Bounce, I laughed, I cried, and I rejoiced. Without giving anything away about the plot, I'll say that one of my favorite parts of Bounce was meeting such a diverse group of characters. I know that my students will have many discussions about all the characters and how they affected the main character, Frannie.

I am so thankful that Megan Shull writes books that have strong messages, good feels, and diverse characters. As a teacher, I'm always looking for books that will connect with readers. Megan Shull's books do that. They're simply magic! If you don't already have The Swap in your library, it's a must-have. It will fly off the shelf. In September, get copies of Bounce, too, because they will also be flying off your shelves. I've already pre-ordered copies of Bounce-- I can't wait for them to be delivered in Sept. My students will be eagerly waiting for that box, and they'll love reading Bounce!

"I can handle anything that happens. No matter what."

This book has truly touched me. I bought it a month or so ago on a whim but never actually managed to read it until now. As a result, it had been collecting dust in the corner of my room. Until today, anyway.

I devoured this book in a handful of hours. Frannie's experiences were so special. Every "bounce" was so special. I cried so much during this book that I feel worn out. The ending was perfect. The writing was perfect. This book was just so amazing that I can't even explain it.

I would like to say I should have read this book the moment I bought it, but I can't say that. I'm happy I read this book now, when I needed it the most. I can't wait to recommend this book to friends. A book that is at times so sweet, and at other times so heartbreaking. A book that is sure to stay in the hearts of many, including my own, for years to come.

Thank you, Megan Shull, for writing this book!

Megan Shull has done it again! Following up her smash hit, THE SWAP, with a brand new, beautifully written, hard to put down novel, this book is best for any young readers ten and up. You will thoroughly enjoy Frannie's journey, cheering at her successes and commiserating with her challenges. I loved this book and recommend it highly!

Megan Shull does it again! My family all read The Swap and loved it, and once we found out Ms. Shull was coming out with another book, we couldn't wait to pick it up! Believe it or not I had to order two copies to prevent the young ones (girl and boy) from fighting over it.

and well...Bounce didn't disappoint! I just finished it (I had wait for my daughter to finish - that didn't take long!) and it's an instant classic for us. It's all we've been able to talk about this past week...

I'd give it 6 stars if I could!

13-year-old Frannie feels so alone in her family. Her older sister torments her and her older brother ignores her. Her parents seem to resent her. Life feels cold and miserable and she is full of fear. When her parents announce a surprise trip for just the two of them over Christmas, Frannie is terrified of being left alone. As her worst fears seem to come true, she falls asleep on Christmas Eve wishing for a new family and a different life. Imagine her surprise when she wakes up on Christmas morning in another girl's body. She is now Dakota, with two loving parents and an adorable younger sister. Though still fearful, Frannie takes some chances and tries things she wouldn't have as herself. When she wakes up the next morning, it is Christmas Day again, but this time she is in a different girl's life. This happens several more times, and Frannie begins to gain both strength and wisdom from her changes. Both funny and poignant, this story helps illustrate that no matter what it looks like on the outside, everyone is fighting their own battles on the inside. With kindness and grace, each of us can find the resilience to go on. Highly recommended for grades 4 & up.

I loved this book! I read it after The Swap, and it was really good! In this book Frannie bounces to different bodies and lives Christmas 5 times after wishing she could be someone else. This book was really well written and all of the different parts made me laugh, cry, smile, and feel kind of melancholy. I recommend this book to anyone because it's really well written and very hard to put down!

3.5

This book is a fun spin on the old wish-for-a-different-life Christmas story. Frannie is having the worst Christmas ever when her parents decide to take off for the holiday and her brother and sister throw a major party in the house. Frannie wishes for a new family. When she wakes up, she's living someone else's life. And then it keeps happening. Christmas day over and over as someone else each time. The novel is fast paced and during her adventures Frannie faces her fears and becomes a little less afraid of the world. I think I would have liked this book more if I felt Frannie's character were better developed. I found myself far more invested in the girls whose lives she inhabited than I did her even at the end. As a mother, I found her parents to be the absolute worst as well.

I did not enjoy the book for many reasons. First, I felt it was very repetitive. I mean I get it, the main character, Frannie Hudson bounces into different lives, repeating Christmas day, but I felt like the author could have ended the book, maybe 100 pages, sooner. Also, I wish the lives she bounced into had some sort of connection they had to as her normal life being Frannie. The lives she bounced into that had a connection to her life were fun too read, and made the book interesting. The parts that had no connection to her life whatsoever, made me lose interest, and I felt like I was crawling through, trying to get to the next chapter. Personally, this book was not for me. I do like Megan Shull as an author, however, like I said, I think the book could have ended 100+ pages ago.

ARC from Edelweiss
Not my favorite book. I disliked how pathetic Frannie was in the beginning of the book (I get why the author did it, but she's supposed to be a 7th grader- not a 5 year old). The different bounces were semi- entertaining, but I skimmed them pretty fast. I preferred the book "The Swap" much better. I will most likely purchase this for my middle school though. The 5th and 6th grade girls will enjoy it.

Friends: it has been an awfully long time since I gave a book five stars. But this book...THIS BOOK!! Was magical, sweet, thoughtful, and written well enough that the writing didn't detract from the story. I am recommending this book to every one!

Quick synopsis: a twelve-year-old girl has a home life that makes her feel anxious and worthless--constantly yelled at and in the way. She wishes to be part of another family, and goes to sleep. For the next five days, every day she wakes up as a new twelve or thirteen-year-old girl, having to live that one day (each time it's Christmas Day), as that girl. She experiences a wide variety of situations and people, and she picks up familial love and lessons along the way. So, so sweet. Makes me want to be a better mom...more gentle, more caring, better listening.

The other night I had a horrible dream where Alex (now 10 years old) got in an accident and ended up mentally handicapped and physically incapacitated. In the dream I just sobbed and sobbed. But for so many people, that is their reality. I am very aware that we are all, and our kids, just one accident--one day-- away from debilitating disease, handicaps, and death. Each day we get to spend together as an imperfect family, being "normal"--doing homework, making dinner, checking on the garden, showering, napping, nursing...library books and hair elastics strewn around the house, is an unspeakable gift.

I am filled with gratitude.

I can't wait for Adele (now 12 years old) to read the book. I want to hear her thoughts. If you got all the way through this review, and read the book, I would love to hear your thoughts too!

Ms. Megan Shull... I am such a huge fan! Please write more! As fast as you can!!!

When I saw a copy of Bounce by Megan Shull at the bookstore, I immediately grabbed it because her first book, The Swap, is one of my favorites. I was not disappointed. Megan Shull writes differently that a lot of middle-grade authors. The characters become your best friends, and I was laughing and crying the whole time. Shull seems to talk to you through the pages, and the characters are relatable and funny. I recommend this book for ages 10 to 13.
The story is about 12-year-old Frannie, who is having a rotten Christmas break. Her family does not seem to care about her. When her parents and siblings leave her alone late at night on Christmas Eve, she just wishes for a different family to love her. She gets her wish and bounces from body to body, reliving Christmas as a different girl every day.

Bounce was terrific, I think it would make a fantastic book club book for 5th grade or strong 4th grade readers. Lots of appeal to kids who like Pack of Dorks, and like realistic fiction. I loved the fact that it was not a school setting, that seems to be a turnoff for a lot of kids. They want to read about things that are different from their every day experiences, yet that they can relate to. This book will leave readers satisfied, and maybe finding a bit more empathy for others.

Frannie is not happy. She is the youngest in a dysfunctional family. On Christmas Eve she wishes she had a different family. Waking up the next day she finds her wish granted. Like the movie Groundhog Day wakes up 5 more times on Christmas to a new family. In each she learns a bit about being more assertive and believing in herself. There are some nice messages and good role models for family relationships, but there is an element of fairy tale as well.

I recently read the book called Bounce by Megan Shull. She is an amazing author with great writing skills. I really enjoyed reading this book because of how many points of view it has. The young girl in the book travels through many different lives of girls her age. She is in their shoes for one day exactly. When she falls asleep, she is in a new life in which everyday she wakes up is Christmas. This all started on Christmas Eve when her older brother and sister threw a big party and were mean to her. She wished to have a new family...and look what happened. She eventually comes back to her family with a different attitude. Her family may still be the same, but she has drastically changed.

This book was one of the best books that I have ever read overall. I really liked it when she was with the family that had the new puppy and that had horses. I think that she was the happiest there. One part that I did not like was when her brother and sister threw a party without the parents knowing. This made her very scared and upset with them.

This book would be liked by really anyone. I think that it has great lessons in it that most people could benefit from. Overall, anyone could read this book and love it as much as I did.

This book was about a girl named Frannie Hudson, and she bounces through people's bodies when she goes to sleep, and every time, she repeats Christmas. I think this book was really well written and had really great description. It is really good at showing different perspectives. When I read this book, I could feel like I was the main character and I was feeling the same feelings they were.

This was a little weird! It's like the book thinks it's revolutionary that a kid with parents who scream at and neglect her will turn out better if she suddenly has people in her life who love her. I felt it could have done more with the concept? But it was still a nice read.
