Mari had her time in the past and is finally home. Unfortunately, she didn’t understand the goddess’ warning that traveling to the past would have consequences. She could never have imagined what they would be, but she quickly finds out that not everything is the way she left it. The past is far more complicated, and dangerous than she ever imagined—particularly for Mari. She might just be the piece everyone is seeking in their own puzzles to control not only the past but the future, too.

As you all may know, I love love love B. Kristin McMichael. I believe that she is a brilliant writer, thinker, story teller, and just an astonishing human being. I mean jeez… not only does she write but she’s got a PhD in biology, not to mention young ones and a hubby to take care of. Sometimes I feel like I’m juggling the world and can’t handle it, so I can’t even fathom how she finds the time to write such beautiful, intelligent, swoonworthy books. I think that you should also know that I devour her books, every time. B.Kristin is one of my no-holes barred trustworthy one-click authors. No joke, I don’t need a synopsis or even a cover photo. Just put that word baby in my hands and I’m in my reader’s heaven.

Chrysoprase is the 2nd installment in the Chalcedony Chronicles. This book is such an amazing follow up to the first book [Carnelian]. Not only does B.K. leave you stunned by her talented writing but she dazzles you with new and interesting facts, thrilling history, twists and turns, angst, suspense, love, laughter, and moments of absolute shock. I definitely had some suspicions throughout the book, but when it came down to it they were just suspicions. However, some of them came to fruition, but not exactly in the way that I anticipated – which I adore.
I also love the fact that B.K. can give you just enough sexual tension to be completely satisfied, even if you’re into reading more of the erotic type novels. Sometimes I feel like books get sickening with the loss of plots because of the “need” to have sexual scenes in the book. I mean I get it, sex sells… but what happened to the rest of the story!? Sometimes you just want MORE than that, and B.K. delivers a fantastic storyline that will leave you with the ultimate book hangover.

In Chrysoprase the story revolves more around Mari’s prophecy more than her relationship. With everything that happened in the first novel, Mari is searching for answers and will do whatever it takes to get them. I don’t want to indulge you with too much information, especially if you haven’t read the first book. Of Which by the way I totally recommend you doing so. Mari unfortunately has to rely on the last person in the world she ever wanted to see again. Logan, her ex-boyfriend from high school leaves a bad taste in her mouth. The last thing she wants to do is work with him on her prophecy. Needless to say, secrets are being kept on both sides of the unlikely coupling. Mari is incredibly wary of Logan’s intentions with just cause.
“I will never hurt you again” Logan said.“I promise you that, Mari. If you let me be the one, I will give you anything you want. I can make you happy. Seth will only bring you sadness. He isn’t from our time. I love you, Mari, and I know you can love me, too, if you tried. The spark between us isn’t gone. It can never be gone.”
I mean when I first started reading about Logan I was like oh no, not this jerk. Definitely didn’t like him. After a little while he grew on me, but let me tell you I have such a love/hate relationship with his character it isn’t even funny. Logan is a charmer, I’ll give him that. I just can’t get over the heartbreak he caused my favorite sassy little red head Mari. Throughout the entire book I just kept thinking to myself that he has an ulterior motive. I’m not gonna tell you if he actually had one, or if he didn’t… cause obviously I REALLY want you to read this series.
As much as I missed a few of the supporting characters from the first novel in the series, like Mari’s best friend Sim, I was still appeased. You definitely still get some Sim time, but the depths of this novel are so much more intense that you don’t even realize she’s not entirely present. Then there is Ty. I love me some Ty, he’s such an adorable best friend. Ty is the absolute meaning of loyalty. Haha, see what I did there? ;) I’m a dork, I know.
Before I keep babbling on and on about how much I loved this installment in the chronicles, and give away top secret information that needs to be discovered by the reader themselves, I’ll leave you with this… I NEED BOOK 3!!!! I can NOT wait for the next installment in this series. It’s such a good thing I have one more B. Kristin novel (The Day Human Prince) to read while I’m anxiously awaiting the next book. Although I’m gonna have to pace myself, so I’m not craving too much B.K. at once! Hehe. I never have any disappointments when I read her works, and I guarantee you won’t either. I seriously wish this author the best luck in the world of authors, she deserves the very best. B. Kristin McMichael is one of those authors who can take you out of your worst book slump and bring you back to the reason that you love reading.

Wow. Chrysoprase is the second installment in B.K's latest series and once again she has dazzled me with the depth of her talent. The twists she has added in the second book were fantastic and left me guessing with what she was going to throw at me next. Mari struggles to make everything right and keep all her loved ones together, only the Goddess seems to have a different idea and suddenly Mari finds herself relying on the last person she would have ever imagined counting on for help. But will he really help or does he have an ulterior motive to keep Mari all to himself? This book was brilliant and left me in awe of B.K's imagination. This book beats book one hands down and leaves you hanging in the best possible way.

As Mari's story continues she is bound and determined to get Seth out of the past and back home. She is also worried about her mother because she has disappeared. She receives a significant gift from the goddess but she must master it to use it properly. Logan, her ex-boyfriend reenters her life and secrets about him are revealed and she must decide if she can trust him. More often then not, Mari makes impulsive decisions and the aftermath are not always what she was hoping for. There are consequences for her actions.
This is a well written, exciting, remarkable story. The concept is magnificent. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and I highly recommend it.

I loved the first book in this series, and this one did not disappoint me at all. Time travel was now exciting and enthralling with Mari as a protagonist. The characters were vividly portrayed and each had their own unique personality to love. Mari and Seth truly had a love that could span across time. I would highly recommend this book, it was a very refreshing read!

Mari returns back to her own time to find the both Seth and her mother are missing. Only Ty returned with her. As they try to figure out how to go back and rescue them they have to incorporate the help of an unexpected friend: Mari’s old boyfriend Logan.
The whole getting everyone back to the future and who goes with who thing is a mess and having Mari going off plan made it worse. But we do get a good look at how life was back in Egypt and the Middle East long ago.
Footnote: 1) I enjoyed researching and learning more about the different types of Chalcedony as I read this series.
2) The outline of this series is very similar to the twilight’s. Book 1: Girl finds unusual boy, they fall in love. Book 2: Boy disappears. Girl gets comfort from Boy #2. Book 3: Boy #1 returns. Two boys fight over her. Book 4: Boy 1 gets girl, they marry and have problem(s) staying together.
Fave scenes: Logan’s library, Ty’s upsetting discovery & decision, Mari’s bath and Mari’s reaction to Lord Enil.

I think it is important to start by pointing out that having not read the book prior to Chrysoprase in the series, my opinion is limited. Some series can be read out of order with limited issues, but this is not one of them. I was missing necessary information. Also, the first book most likely established some of the reader's investment in the protagonist. Therefore I started Chrysoprase without any prior investment or knowledge and was dropped into the middle of an ongoing story. That negatively impacted the pacing and other aspects of the story for me, but the story was still interesting. I have not read many books that involve time travel, but I found the concept of this story interesting.
I will probably look into the other books at some point and if I do, I will read this one again with the knowledge I was lacking.

"Chrysoprase" is a thrilling and enchanting addition to the "Chalcedony Chronicles" series, filled with adventure, romance, and magic. With its captivating storyline, well-drawn characters, and imaginative world-building, B. Kristin McMichael's novel is sure to delight fans of fantasy fiction and leave them eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.

Once again no conclusion
This story started out interesting but got far too convoluted. I will not be buying yet another to read for hours with no conclusion once again. That is just a ploy to sell more books. In addition to that the grammar and typos are very annoying.

In Chrysoprase, the story picks up where Carnelian left off. Mari just returned to her own time only to discover that the Goddess had sent her mother back to her own time, and Seth did not return with her to the present. I guess that rescue mission failed! #epicfail. Lets start from the beginning shall we...
Mari is an 18-year-old girl in her first year of college in MN. She meets and falls in love with Seth, aka the “Edward Cullen” of all guys, and learns that he is a time traveler. When Seth has to return to his own time, Mari decides that this is unacceptable and finds out how to follow him in the past and bring him back. Little did Mari know that her own mother is a part of the same time period as Seth, and in fact even knows him! I'm jumping ahead, so sorry. The story is so entangled with every part of everything that it's hard not to reveal one thing! Returning to recap, that was book one in a nutshell. Book two is where you get your mind blown.
Now that Mari knows Seth did not return with her, and knows who her mother really is, she turns to the only person she can, Ty. I'm not sure why Ty made it back but I guess someone had to! So Mari and Ty begin planning their return to the past to bring Seth and her mother back. They have no clue how to time travel back to a past that far back, nor how to bring someone with them. Right here is where the story takes a total U-Turn and begins the mind blow. For the rest of the story, it's all action, drama, and danger! I still don't have the bigger picture that I know is there. With all great stories, you never are able to figure out the ending, right?
New characters were introduced, some friendly, some not so friendly. With the new characters came new story lines, new layers to the existing one, which brought me to a whole new level of enrapturement. That's right, I'm making up words, lol! Mari is introduced to her mother's sister Juni, and her son Prince Saru and his douche bag wife Saska. Mari learns quickly that no one can be trusted in her mother's time, but instead of keeping her head down and her mouth shut, she does quite the opposite which brings her to the predicament she is currently in. Sometimes the past is a shock and disgusts me, which is why I prefer to not read historical books, but the realness of the evil men did in the past is what got my heart pumping, and peaked my curiosity to stay glued to the story and find out what was going to happen next. It was like watching a train wreck, you can't help yourself. It is a total rush, I loved every part of it!

Hollie Jackson delivers another riveting performance! Hollie narrated the first book, Carnelian as well. Her tone reflects Mari's character so well, I can't imagine anyone else as Mari. Excellent job Hollie, you score a well deserved 5 Star Rating!

After the final of the first book, I was excited and in a hurry with the idea of reading the continuation. Did Seth and Mari succeed? Did the things change in the present? What will it occur of their life with the incredible power of Mari? Will the goddess leave them alone? A lot of questions which need answers and which I had rather quickly in a crashing way. Seth could not return in the present with Mari, a present which is top-below, a complete chaos.
We takes again the things to zero with new objectives and new heads. Mari must learn how to use her powers in order to go get Seth back, the love of her life, and Dee, his best friend, but it is not all!! Mari's mother was also returned in the past which complicates many things. And if it were not sufficient, the memories of everyone were modified because of a newcomer in the race, Mari's ex-boyfriend, Logan.
Mari is always equal to herself, a courageous, malignant young woman and a desperado. Her feelings dominate her and often involve her in troubles which she could have avoided. Her travel in the past will quickly make her understand why her mother fled this time and yet, she has the impression that her and Seth's places are over there. Mari is a character interesting and attaching, her relation with Seth make steps of giant and become a more adult and intimate one.
The supporting characters are essentially two men: Ty, the African slave and Mari's BFF, and Logan, a time traveller and ex-boyfriend of the lady. These two are Mari's anchors in the present, but whereas Ty is a sure ally, Logan is a total mystery which has his own calendar. Seth is more virile and himself in ancient Egypt, clearly saying his plans to the woman of his life. Mari's mother's family plays a crucial part in the evolution of her life in the past.
I appreciated that the story is centered much on the fantasy with the goddess and the travel in time. We starts to have accurate information on how things works and especially on certain secrets when with the role of Mari in all the story. The second well developed point is the life in antiquity, the royal family of Mari, the intrigues and treasons, besides the wars between nations. We learn some more things by the same occasion about Seth, Ty or Mari's mother. This continuation completely convinced me and I all the more want to read the third book. Once again, the end is a completed and enormous cliffhanger.

Chrysoprase is the second novel in the Chalcedony Chronicles, a time travel saga that blends created time travel mythology with ancient history. This book was definitely my favorite of the two written thus far.
The mythology is much more developed in this book with much more significance given to it. There are a lot of twists and turns and unexpected moments in this book that truly change the course of the book. There are characters from the first book that play much more important roles now, while others move to the background a little bit.
We learn a lot more about the past and the brothers' connections to it, as well as some surprising information about Mari's world, too. In the end, she finds help in the last place she ever thought she would, although whether or not the help is true is a question that we just don't have an answer to!
The one thing that truly bothers me with this book, however, still has to do with emphasis paid to certain parts of the plot. There is a whole lot of action on Mari's part without a lot of respect to the well-known fact that messing with the events of the past significantly affect the future. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of attention paid to that concept by Mari and her friends. Nor do they seem to spend much time trying to understand what the goddess needs them to do, instead focusing on their own needs. This is something that directly flies in the face of the goddess' issues with children of time. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Things to love...
--The blend of created mythology and ancient history.
--The stronger emphasis placed on the sci-fi/time travel.
Things I wanted more/less of...
--More understanding of what it is that they are supposed to be doing with the time travel.
My Recommendation: The story line of the overall series is much more developed in this book and I think the story will continue to grow!

In the end, she finds help in the last place she ever thought she would, although whether or not the help is true is a question that we just don't have an answer to!
The one thing that truly bothers me with this book, however, still has to do with emphasis paid to certain parts of the plot. There is a whole lot of action on Mari's part without a lot of respect to the well-known fact that messing with the events of the past significantly affect the future. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of attention paid to that concept by Mari and her friends. Nor do they seem to spend much time trying to understand what the goddess needs them to do, instead focusing on their own needs. This is something that directly flies in the face of the goddess' issues with children of time. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Things to love...
--The blend of created mythology and ancient history.
--The stronger emphasis placed on the sci-fi/time travel.
Things I wanted more/less of...
--More understanding of what it is that they are supposed to be doing with the time travel.
My Recommendation: The story line of the overall series is much more developed in this book and I think the story will continue to grow!

3-21-15 Another engaging installment! Not a 5, but getting there! This one was a little more sad due to the new circumstances. Mari irritated me a bit more in this one because she used less of her fabulous, logical brain. It seems like her smartness shorted out a bit because someone wasn't around to keep her sharp. I have a HUGE problem with the way she went along with Logan, BUT I found it in the acceptable range that she always kept him at a distance and was wary of him. But when she argued with Ty about it I was really upset because I'm tired of book women acting like guys who say they aren't interested mean it all of the time. They don't. They are lying.
My big issue number one was Ty giving his stone to Logan because he was so obviously greedy and not trustworthy, but I'm glad he didn't trust 100%. My big issue number two was when Mari didn't wait to discuss her plan with Seth- she wasn't trusting him to be the strategist he had proven to be and she instead chose to trust Logan even if at the same time she wasn't completely trusting him. Number three was not getting the stone back from Logan ASAP. Those things were bound to lead to disaster. I didn't get the surprise at the end until the end and I'm really hoping she figures out the gift issue right way. And now in the same fashion as the last book, I am ready to read the next book but it isn't out for 2 weeks!!! Aaaaahhhh!!

Chrysoprase picks off basically where Carnelian ended. The prologue is very handy to catch you up to speed if you cannot fully remember the events of Carnelian (like myself).
The first few chapters of Chrysoprase deal with the consequences of time-travel, specifically with what happened at the end of Carnelian.
Normally I am not a great fan of romance sub-plots, but McMichael managed to not make it too in-your-face to get annoying as the often tend to. As well as this romance, we are unaware of what some peoples motives are, and I suspect (and hope) that we will find out what they are in the next book, Aventurine.
I ended up enjoying this second book more than the first, mainly due to the fact that we got to see more time travel, and spend way more time in ancient Egypt. I have always been fascinated with Egypt since I was a young girl and I loved hearing a new take on what others thought that the time was like, as we will never truly know unless we can also time travel and experience it for ourselves.

Chrysoprase is the second book in the Chalcedony Crhonicles by B. Kristin McMichael. The first book, Carnelian, introduced us to Mari and the world of time traveling. In that review, I mentioned how there was no mention of time travel until the middle of the book. It basically made that book feel like it was trying to find something fast and this was the only way.
Chrysoprase, on the other hand, felt more thought out. We get more information on the act of time traveling, the world of the past, who our antagonist is, and we get to see a bit of what makes Mari so important. These things are essential to the story as a whole and I'm glad I didn't have to wait as long to see a clear defining line to what I am reading.
Mari is still an intelligent and driven young woman. Though she seems to be too trusting. The scenes of her learning to time travel was interesting and gave her relationship with Ty more depth. Her reunion with Seth was great. It allowed her to show him that she is stronger than he realizes and that he needs to understand that they are partners.
The book ended with a perfect cliffhanger that did excite me for the third book. All in all, this one was my favorite of the two books in the series that I've read. I could see a potential in great development.

What the heck B. Kristin McMichael! How can you just leave me with this until the wintertime...I have so many questions I need answered!!!!!
Ugh, what a fantastic installment in this series, I love this book much more than the first!
There was so much action, so much time traveling, so much happening! And Logan, really? in gollum from the Hobbit's voice "Sneaky, sneaky".
I feel like B. Kristin set up a lot of potential great things that could happen in the next book and beyond, so she really built up that momentum in this book.

When I read a book like Chrysoprase, I remember exactly why I love series so much. The first book of this series was good, but this one is great! I love being able to get to know characters on a much deeper level than a standalone allows.
I also love time travel books, but unfortunately a lot of them get to be super confusing. I guess it is just the way it goes with such a confusing genre. One of the reasons I loved this series so much is because the timelines are handled so flawlessly. You are never confused about where the characters are!
This installment begins where the other one left off. Mari needs to figure out a way to get Seth back to the future. Unfortunately she needs to enlist the help of a person who is quite suspect.
I don't want to say to much and leave a spoiler, but there was so many twists and turns that you are literally on the edge of your seat the entire time you read this book.
I can not wait for the third book to come out.

An absolute perfect follow-up to Book 1: Carnelian. In my opinion one of the most positive things about Book 2 is the increased level of historical time travel. Mari has made choices that lead her to make sacrifices. For me it was great to have more sci-fi (time travel) and more historical (ancient lands) local! Mari grows a lot in the book and author B. Kristen McMichael did a superb job allowing the character to try, fail, learn, lose. I'm still in love with the sub-characters <3. Serious book boyfriends in the works! Maybe Ty will get his own series one day (hint, hint). Bonus in the book is that you get a character you are going to love-to-hate.

Book 2 in the series. I didn't know how or where the author was going to take this book after the cliff hanger in book 1 (other than the obvious -- reunite with Seth somehow) but honestly it was better than I could of ever imagined. I liked the new addition of characters -- don't want to give anything away but B Kristin adds a new character that is sure to grab your interest!
We got to see more into the relationship of Mari with her mom, and of course deeper into Mari & Ty's friendship -- I love their friendship and enjoyed getting to know more about Ty.
Seth & Mari - steamy and I think they found a groove that works for me -- their relationship came off very real in the book & I loved it.
Can't wait for book 3!

This book was rather interesting. Details about her ex-boyfriend before she met Seth come to the surface and drastically changes things. Mari is trying to find her mother and Seth and Dee in the past to bring them back home with her, but ends up in several sticky situations in the process.
I loved the world building in this book. I really liked the way the author described the past and the people and the royalty that Mari was involved with. I thought she did a wonderful job for at time period that we can't know everything or specific details.
This was a pretty decent sequel. It did seem a bit slow most of the book, but it was interesting and I'm curious to see what happens in book 3, which I will be starting next.

I was so excited to get Chrysoprase! And I am so glad i finally read it. Now I have a problem.... I have to wait until book 3 comes out :'(
The romance was electric and spicy, I loved it! The love Seth and Mari have is definitely once in a lifetime and very powerful.
The ending was unfortunately predictable, but I didn't mind. Regardless if I knew it was going to happen, it was still shocking. It really makes me hate Logan.
I really don't know what more to say about the book without spoiling anything.

The one she thought she knew she really never knew
Mari is brave intelligent loyal and hard headed. But man the things she gets herself and others into is a testament of what you'll do for those you love. The book just gets deeper and deeper, while you will definitely be left wondering with. But trust once you start you won't be able to put it down and will be left eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next book just as I am.
Would definitely recommend this book.

I am loving this series. Time traveling has never been so much fun! Mari is on a mission to put her family back together and find the love of her life. Going back to Egypt is going to be dangerous but she is willing to risk anything for those she loves. The story is fun and exciting. It's full of mystery and suspense. The love triangle is keeping me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to read the next installment of the series.

This book picks up where the first book left off. Mari is back in the future (now times), but travels from the first book have changed things. Mari decides she is going to once again time travel to set things right and to be with Seth. Of course there is more trouble, more questions, more action, more adventure, and just plain more fun. I enjoyed the second installment in this series.

I loved this book...I thought it was even better than the first one. I am going to to go nuts waiting to read the last one. I love the story behind Logan but I am team Seth all the way!!! This series is well written and researched. The characters are relatable and easy to fall in love with. There are no lulls in the story and each moment to the next is outstanding.

Young adult time travel romance.
Mari and Seth have more trouble ahead.
I was a little saddened to find that Seth and Mari are separated for most of this book, but I really enjoyed their reunion. There is the introduction of new Characters and you learn new things about existing characters.
The ending of this book is really good and again it is a must read to find out!
