Since 1987, Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary has equipped preachers, pastors, and churchmen for Christ's Kingdom. This collection of essays by current and past faculty members provides ministers and seminary students with a resource to fulfill their callings. By no means is this collection of articles exhaustive, but it does capture some of the emphases of the seminary's approach to theological education. Contributors include Joseph A. Pipa, Jr, Sidney Dyer, L. Michael Morales, Benjamin Shaw, Ian Hamilton, James E. McGoldrick, L. Anthony Curto, Ryan McGraw, C.N. Willborn, Morton H. Smith, and George W. Knight III.
This is a wonderful, little anthology! The content is refreshing and engaging.
Only two complaints: 1) The page numbers in the Table of Contents do not match the pagination throughout the book, which creates some minor confusion; 2) Some of these articles are not "complete", in that most of them are just snippets of the full publication. I, personally, would love to have the full version of every article. They are that wonderful!
Well, I may be a bit biased, as I'm the named editor for this book. But in all sincerity, this helpful selection of articles dealing with issues germane to pastoral ministry is notable for its accessibility, timeless relevance, and noble intent. None of these articles was written to "wow" or amaze anyone. Rather, they were written to bless Christ's church, and particularly to bless Christ's ordained churchmen in their labors of love and service to Christ's flock.
Taken together, these articles give valuable tools to ministers, elders, deacons, and seminarians as they seek to fulfill their callings. Though distinctively Presbyterian, this little book of short articles is certainly relevant to churchmen from any denominational background. One would be hard-pressed to find such a short anthology dealing with such wide-reaching themes elsewhere.
