The Prayer On Her Lips Is, Jack Be Quick It’s been months since ex-Navy SEAL Jack McCullen last saw his fiancée, Suz Molloy. He was on the other side of the world involved in a grueling black ops security mission for Iniquus Corporation at the behest of the US government. Mission fail meant a special flight home, and an ambulance ride to the hospital where Suz should have been waiting for him.
Something is very wrong, and Lynx might be his only hope When Jack rouses from his surgery to find Suz missing, he knows something is very wrong. Led by the psychic “knowings” of his Iniquus colleague, Lynx, Jack risks everything as he desperately tries to reach Suz and the children she's protecting in time to thwart the kidnappers’ plot and save their lives.
This time, his mission is for more than love of country; it’s for the love of his life - his heart and soul. USA Today bestselling author Fiona Quinn takes readers on another thrillride.

I really didn't know what rating to give this book. Did I like it? Yes, as the writing is good and it has a good story with intrigue, suspense, and romance. That's why I gave it 3.5 stars. Did I love it? No, as it was drawn out and a lot of self reflection going on. For this, I would have 6 it 3 stars. The narration was an issue for me.
Jack and Suz, as a fan I just knew this story would be freaking awesome and I was not disappointed at all, talk about a mind blowing thrill ride with Suz in imminent danger and Jack injured you just know this story is going to be an amazing read.
Suz is all about her kids as a teacher and her gorgeous fiance Jack, he is never far from her mind either, especially with Jack job at Iniquus she is always worrying about him, worrying about their future, Suz starts to worry that they may not have a future she feels she is not strong enough to be Jacks partner in life. Suz discovers a lot of inner strength throughout this story from helping her kids escape their school when it's under siege, to heading into a strange country to find 2 missing kids all while pondering her relationship with Jack.
As for Jack he is laid up in hospital after injuring his knee when Suz school is taken hostage. But hey we all know Jack won't stay in the hospital long when the love of his life is in danger, even though he has a feeling something is going on with Suz, Jack never gives up on her, he never gives up on them not even when he get's to understand what it's like being the helpless partner at home while Suz is in danger, Jack pulls up his big boy pants and rides in to save the day in the end Jack and Suz save each other just like all good loving partners should.
This book is about Jack from Strike Force/Iniquus and his girlfriend for 4 years, Suz. She has been mentioned in several Lynx books.
When Jack is injured - again - Suz feels she must leave Jack. She is not strong enough to endure his missions, always living in terror, waiting for him to return to her. But it will break her heart.
While Jack is still in the hospital and knows nothing of her turmoil, Suz has a terrifying experience when the school she works at is besieged. Due to Jack's foresight she can save her class, but soon after she is taken from her home. Jack, still injured, is not sure Suz has left him or is in danger. But he will do anything for the woman he loves.
This was romantic suspense at its nailbiting best. I loved Suz and I thought she was just amazing in this adventure. And Jack.. yes Jack. Going after his woman, even injured. Sigh. But Suz was the real heroine in this story!
I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review of this awesome book!
If you look at the start and end dates above I need to clarify something...I started this book at 10pm 6/20 and finished it at 3:10am 6/21. Once I started I COULD NOT STOP. As a Fiona Quinn fan Jack and Suz are part of my family! This whole story was a huge, terrifying, edge of my seat adventure! There were so many times when I was trying to tell Jack, (out loud! Lol), what he needed to do or where he needed to go! This book comes to life in your hands! I highly recommend this book, heck this author!
Jack hasn't seen Suz in months. He was off on a mission for Inquis and made it back in an ambalance. After surgery, he wakes up to find that Suz has taken off to South America. He feels that something is off and goes off in search of her to be sure she is safe because no matter what he loves her.
Suz has just saved the kids in her class from a terrorist trying to blow up the school. Little did she know that one student was taken just as he arrived at the school. when the terrorists take her to care for the children, she prays for Jack to come help her.
Suz is ready to break up with Jack thinking that she isn't strong enough to deal with Jack's way of life. As Suz is dealing with the terrorists and dealing with two sick boys, she learns a lot about herself and, ultimately, her relationship with Jack.
So many vibrant characters and an amazing setting: the jungle in Paraguay, created a world to get lost in. It took me two days to finish this book (that was only because I had to go to work.). Fiona never fails to impress me. In fact, she nearly killed me with the ending.
I absolutely loved this book! The Inniquis crew is back and I missed them. Jack is a great character, a man that feels deeply and loves Suz that will melt your heart. Suz thinks she's the opposite of Jack but when push comes to shove, she makes some choices and realizes she's more than what she thought. Their relationship is one of growth over the course of the book and I loved the realness of it. The suspense and action were great as usual and I really enjoyed Lynx being a main part of the book too!
This book was an excellent read. Suspenseful story, solid character development, intriguing details and complexities, a well-written and engaging page-turner. I read it in two sittings. Jack's depth of love for Suz and hers for him, despite her anxieties, was beautifully described and fledged out as the novel unrolled and brilliantly demonstrated in how Jack prepared Suz for a possible school shooting and humorously for the zombie apocalypse and how she unexpectedly ended up using that preparation.
I first discovered Fiona Quinn a couple of months ago when I came across her Cerberus Tactical K9 trilogy (I'm a sucker for novels featuring working K9s). Quickly read those and was fascinated by the character of Lexi/Lynx who appears at various times in those novels. So went back to read the first novel featuring the genesis of what made Lexi so special. Her puzzler and paranormal skills are particularly fascinating. (I had the pleasure of listening to the exceptional narration and many voices of the marvelous Jesse Vilinsky for the first four novels featuring Lexi). I've now enjoyed 12 of the Iniquus series and fully intend to read all 34 books. Fiona Quinn's novels are creative and well-researched, features intelligent dialogue, attention to detail and intricate plots. She has been quickly added to my list of favourite authors and she is now an automatic must-read/buy for me.

They are the words that keep Suz alive and moving forward, for the first time ever Suz sees the world as Jack does and she realises just how wrong she has been. Suz really didn't know just how strong she was until she was kidnapped, but fighting through danger and terror whilst protecting two children makes you realise that heroes and people like Jack are needed in this world....it makes you realise exactly what love is. It's not selfish or perfect, not easy or even free, it's also not guaranteed. But whilst ever you have that soul deep, unconditional love you should embrace it and hold tight....because no matter how 'safe' your job is, you never know when danger will strike and tomorrow is not guaranteed. A very emotionally draining but ultimately rewarding read on Kindle Unlimited.
There’s a special kind of surreality to read this book looking back on everything our world has been through the last two-ish years. Especially watching fake troll-news in action. I think I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: I’m somewhat terrified of the author’s crystal ball and her ability to foreshadow the things we’re about to live through. This book has all the political thrills and romantic suspense I’ve come to expect, but at its heart, I feel like this story was about Suz’s journey of self-discovery. Learning what she was capable of, what she valued most, and the lengths she was prepared to go to in order to protect and defend those values.
I wasn't sure when I preordered Jack Be Quick if it could meet my expectations after the 3 Lynx books. It surpassed them. This was a great read. I couldn't put it down till I read it to the end. Now I am going to read it again, slowly!
WALK A MILE IN ANOTHER'S SHOES. TO FIND OUT WHAT SUZ AND JACK FIND OUT ABOUT EACH OTHER AND IF THEY WILL STAY TOGETHER READ THIS BOOK. I ENJOYED THE TWISTS AND TURNS. THE SCHOOLS SHOULD TAKE A PAGE OUT OF THEIR BOOK.
Another winner for this author! Using a pacifist first grade teacher, the readers led from one action packed adventure to the next. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. I highly recommend this book.
Once again, Fiona Quinn has given us an action packed, romantic thriller that takes us to another corner of the world. This one features Jack, one of the members of Iniquus' Strike Force, and his fiancée, Suz. Jack is in the hospital when Suz is kidnapped by terrorists. Will he be able to find her or is she gone from his life forever? Meanwhile, Suz is wondering if she is strong enough to be in a relationship with someone who puts his life in danger for other people. This book was hard to put down and well worth reading.
SHEW!!! This is one of those books that grabs you at page one and doesn't let you go until the last word is read. Fiona Quinn is a new author to me and this is the first book of hers that I've read. It definitely won't be the last.
Suz is a docile, peaceful, calm first-grade teacher who is almost engaged to Jack, a special ops kinda guy who throws his life in danger at the drop of a hat. He's former military who is now working for a private firm, but still doing what he's always done. Oh, the "almost engaged" thing? See, Suz isn't sure that she can commit to someone who is away more than home and constantly in danger. So she wears her ring on her right hand until she can decide.
She's just made one more trip to the hospital after Jack was injured on his last mission. She can't do this anymore. She's finally made her decision. Or so she thought. The very next day her school is attacked by terrorists and thanks to Jack all of her students make it out and are kept safe due to his preparation for just such an occurrence. Just as she thinks all is safe and her life will soon be back to normal the same terrorists show up at her door. They take her hostage and she is suddenly thrown into the midst of the world that Jack lives in. Now the tables are turned and it's up to her to make it out alive.
WOW! Is one of the words that describe this book. It's written in alternating POVs between Jack and Suz. You can feel the anxiety of each. Ms Quinn's writing pulls you into the story and keeps you in the midst of the action the entire time.
I didn’t care for this book until all of a sudden, I did. There are some problems, but the ending is sweet and perfect, with good, strong character arcs for the main protagonists, Jack and Suz.
One of the biggest problems is pace. The book is slow during the first half; even with action going on, the story drags. We are in Suz’s head much of the time and she says the same things over and over. Suz is a whiner who has a great man who’s asked her to marry him, but he doesn’t fit in the perfect world she’s cut out for herself – the suburbs, a man home every night, children, love. That the man she is seeing, Jack, truly loves her doesn’t faze her except to make her feel guilty for not being good enough for him. She says this to herself in a litany. We readily see that this is an excuse. She wants what she wants and no compromising. She is rigid and will not back down from her vision of her perfect world. There’s no room for Jack, who is deployed much of the time and away from her perfect home, a house that Jack bought for her with his Iniquus signing bonus, then fixed it the way she wanted it. Geez…
Jack is oblivious to Suz’s feelings even though they have talked and talked about his deployments and how much she dislikes them, and how they make her feel lost and alone. She doesn’t seem to utilize her position in the Iniquus family, supported by aides (ISOs, Iniquus Support Officers) hired for the express purpose of taking care of loved ones left behind. Jack bought Suz a house, but she had no say in it and didn’t get to look for one with him. Jack bought Suz two dogs, but Suz had no say in them and didn’t get to spend time looking for them with him. These two are SO mismatched. And incredibly, it is because of Jack’s caring thoroughness that Suz is able to keep the children in her classroom safe when the unthinkable happens, and the school is attacked by terrorists. These two are a dysfunctional couple – I was convinced until the last chapter of the book that they were totally, completely, irreparably antithetical. Sidebar: Why is there a 15-inch difference in their heights? That’s just…strange to picture. What’s wrong with a shorter special ops guy…or a taller woman? Just wondering…
There are some places in the book that cause a reader to pause to puzzle out what’s going on. Something doesn’t set right. Suz has rescued the children in her class, all thanks to Jack’s having prepared her and her environment to allow Suz to protect and save them. She isn’t even grateful. Lynx offers to take her to see Jack, who is in the hospital recovering from surgery, but Suz begs off. She doesn’t want to see him because she’s breaking it off with him. This is part of her litany that extends right to the end of the book. Not even a “thank you” for the man who did so much for her and the children. After spending a harrowing day into night with the children hidden away, a friend of Suz’s suggests taking a quick trip to St. Martens. That’s odd. And it feels wrong. Suz is exhausted, wants to get home to her dogs and has clearly gone through an ordeal. Instead, she decides to travel. Hmmm. Somehow, I don’t think so. Suz has been painted as the consummate homebody. Another oddity: Suz and her dad had a close relationship, “they had been close, two peas in a pod.” One day at work, he fell from a ladder after suffering a heart attack and was killed instantly. Suz uses this as a reason not to continue a relationship with Jack: “Suz couldn’t do that to her future children. They deserved a father who was home.” Okay. But her father stayed at home and died anyway. Using that as a reason to stop seeing Jack makes no sense. Another odd thing is that Suz recognized a rifle some bad guys were carrying as the same rifle that Strike Force carried. The writer has spent some time telling and showing us how horrified Suz is of guns. She throws up after touching one. She can’t bear to be around them. It’s difficult to believe that she would recognize a rifle as a specific type. Suz is looking at a sick child and we’re told, “She could see a headache thrumming at his temple.” That’s a stopper. How could she see a headache? Headaches are an invisible condition. People can’t see them. Suz does not have Lynx’s second sight. Suz needs water and decides on an extraordinary method of obtaining it. It’s raining hard; she finds a clean t-shirt, a cooking pot and a cup (getting it from a survival backpack that never runs out of stuff): “Holding the t-shirt in a loose ball, she reached out from under the tent fly, bringing the cloth in and squeezing it into the pot repeatedly until it was full.” This made me laugh. I’ve actually done this on a dare when I was a kid. It was during a deluge, and a friend and I dared each other to fill mixing bowls with water by soaking and wringing out t-shirt sized dishtowels. It took a very long time to fill the bowls about halfway. And our hands hurt from all the wringing. Suz uses this technique to supply water to herself and two kids, a lot of water to slake the thirst that had accumulated for days. And enough to save for later. Nope. Highly unlikely. Suz is small, with small kid-sized hands doing the wringing. Suz is kidnapped in order to care for the children who had been kidnapped before she had. Why? The men, terrorists, seemed to have contacts where they were in South America, yet they had to abduct Suz from Maryland in order to find someone to care for the two children? I couldn’t buy into this premise. Jack is placed into an Arabic community and apparently blends in. Nope. Not buying this either. Jack is a large 6’5” tall man. He would not fit in. A character is sprung on us without introduction: “Jack glanced to his left, where Ruth had parked in a beat-to-hell van from the seventies…” Who is Ruth? This is the first time she’s mentioned. Later, we can infer that she is with Mossad. She has a couple mentions in chapters 24 and 25, and again briefly in chapter 34. Who knows? Jack has left the hospital against medical advice, having just had knee surgery. He’s on crutches and in pain. Suddenly, he’s “…skipping in front of a taxi that didn’t want to slow…” Again, no. The writer cannot have it both ways. He would not be skipping with his knee in the shape it’s in. And later on, he insists on “taking point” in a rescue mission. He’d be jeopardizing everyone just to be the frontman? Again, that makes no sense. His knee is in terrible shape, and his body isn’t in much better shape after jumping out of a building and landing hard during a previous mission. The narrator intrudes on occasion, and it isn’t necessary. It breaks into the story and forces the reader to pause. Here’s an example: “But that wasn’t how it had panned out. Not by a long shot.” There is no reason to tell the reader; if we just keep reading, we’ll find out on our own.
Finally, on page 228, Suz comes to a moment of clarity when she says to herself, “Wow. I am such a hypocrite.” Indeed, she is. She whines that Jack is always off saving the world, then whines when he isn’t saving her, never mind his ruined knee.
There are some errors in the book that stop a reader’s momentum. Punctuation remains a problem for this writer. Her books seem loaded with misused commas and periods. For example: Here a comma changes the meaning of a sentence: “Jack had been in danger since before Suz, and he started dating back when he was a SEAL in California.” This sounds as if Jack had started dating—and not necessarily Suz—when he was a SEAL. However, I believe the writer is talking about Jack and Suz dating, so the comma should be removed: “Jack had been in danger since before Suz and he started dating back when he was a SEAL in California.” Now it’s obvious that the writer is talking about Jack’s and Suz’s dating history. An incorrect word is used in this sentence: “Four at homesick.” No one is homesick as in nostalgic or pining for something. Instead, some students were sick at home. The sentence should read, “Four at home, sick.” The comma is not strictly necessary, but it does make the meaning obvious. A period is needed at the end of this sentence: “She couldn’t imagine” Or, perhaps the writer didn’t finish the sentence? Hard to tell. Here, there’s an extra period in the middle of a sentence: “There isn’t a computer system in the world. He can’t crack.” This should read, “There isn’t a computer system in the world he can’t crack.” An incorrect word is used: “Some of them appeared to be barely out of pubescents.” The correct word is “pubescence.” Pubescents are teenagers. Pubescence is puberty. The writer is talking about the state of puberty, not the individual teenagers. This should read, "...barely out of prepubescence." Two double quotation marks end a sentence: “We’ll take it back to Base to examine.”” The wrong tense is used: “We walked all the way across the river when we go on the plane.” The book is written in past tense, and the sentence should read, “…when we got on the plane.” A comma is needed to indicate that Ari is being addressed: “Shh Ari, I want to hear” should read, “Shh, Ari, I want to hear.” A pronoun seems to be missing here: “Can run a search with education or school…?” I believe the writer means, “Can you run a search…?” The sit/set verbs are confused. “…a bag of clothes, a bag of food, and a bag form the liquor store, sitting in the back seat of her car.” English is a constantly changing language, but sit still applies to animate objects (people, pets) and set applies to inanimate objects (clothes, food, liquor). This should read, “…setting in the back of her car.” A word is capitalized unnecessarily. “They were all in California, which seemed like the ends of the Earth right now.” Earth shouldn’t be capitalized because it isn’t a proper noun, as used. This should read, “…the ends of the earth right now.” Odd spacing appears in the book. Usually, it’s a sentence that is broken in the middle and the second part appears on the line below, looking like the beginning of a new paragraph. This happens in chapter 13.
I rated this book 3.5 stars and rounded down because there were too many places that made me pause to wonder what the writer was trying to tell her readers, and Jack and Suz were just too different and out of sync until the last chapter of the book. We’re told, “He [Jack] thought it was fun to outguess and outmaneuver; she [Suz] didn’t like to play games. Any games.” Suz felt belittled by Jack who would smile at her and she “interpreted that smile as ‘endeared by her naivete.’ She hated that he looked at her like that. It made her feel childish, like an ostrich with her head buried in the sand.”
In the end, I had to agree with Suz. Jack definitely deserved better and Suz needed to go find that perfect man who’d be home every night just for her. Never mind that Jack retired from the SEALs for her. She was incensed that he took a job at Iniquus which matched his skillsets to a tee. And Jack doesn’t get away scot-free, either. He purchased a house – a house!! – for Suz without including her in the selection. He bought her two dogs, without eliciting her opinion or desires. Totally out of sync, these two. The final chapter brought them back together, but it left me wondering…for how long?
I was so excited to read another book about the Iniquus Team! I love learning more about each of the team members. Suz doesn't know if she can stay with Jack when he is always going on secret missions. When he comes home injured, she decides to break up with him. Thru a series of events it is Suz that needs rescuing. Will he be able to find her in time? A wonderful, suspenseful, romantic thriller.
This was the first full length book I have read by author, Fiona Quinn. It was excellent and I most highly recommend it!
This book offered the reader broad character development, was action packed and fast paced. These are very typical features, I have come to look for in Ms. Quinn's story telling. She has the uncanny ability to draw her reader in from the first paragraph. This was a book I found myself not wanting to put down. Her writing style flows nicely and the book was easy to read.
The story of Jack and Suz opens with Jack returning home from an accident he sustained during one of his missions. Suz, ultimately decides she can no longer handle Jack's dangerous job and the risks he puts himself in, while on a mission. She makes the decision to end their relationship, although she is deeply in love with him.
Meanwhile, Suz, an elementary school teacher assists her children to escape from their classroom when terrorists attack her private elitist school. Following this incident, Suz is taken into protective custody by Jack's team, but she decides she does not need the protection and returns to her home that Jack bought for her. She is kidnapped and taken to the jungles of South America. In lies a very riveting story of Suz's adventures in the foreign country, as she fears for her life and the lives of two little boys, one of them her student, the other his brother. Read this tantalizing story to find out if Suz and the boys will make it out alive. Will Jack heal enough to search for her? Will their lives together be over? A must read!!!
I was afforded an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
>Book Review – Jack Be Quick >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Strike Force series and ends with an HEA. Jack works for Iniquus. We meet him as he is recovering from knee surgery in the hospital. His longtime and long suffering girlfriend, Suz is a teacher. She’s having a hard time living in the terror of worrying about Jack while he is off on missions. She decides to break it off with him for her own health. A school shooter and some unprofessional reporters cause the bad guys to think Suz is in the CIA. >This story is scary, yet fun. To see the length that Jack went through to provide safety in a school shooter situation was amazing. Jack must have been patiently coaching Suz on survival, because she pulled on everything she ever learned in order to keep herself and the children safe. I disliked how Lynx used her psychic abilities in the form of nursery rhymes. I felt the book was too silly then. >The descriptions of the jungle, the heat, Suz’s fear and the surroundings are very vivid. The author does a great job of making sure the reader feels what the characters feel. The best scene was the last scene between Suz and Jack. He was heartbroken when he thought Suz was giving up on him. Seeing an alpha male so out of control was so sexy. There weren’t any erotic love scenes in this book. The story was about the long haul of a relationship. Suz and Jack got their HEA, but nothing was ever discussed as to how they would both act different this time around. >This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. The plot was intense, but the characters were awesome.
Jack Be Quick was riveting. There's an old saying "before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes." Suz and Jack have been together for four years. Although they've both made sacrifices to be in their relationship yet Suz has never gotten over being resentful of his job. He continuously seems to choose the job over her. She makes a decision about their future but before she can tell him she lands in the middle of a Paraguayan jungle caring for twin boys, one of whom she teaches, who've been kidnapped. Unfortunately depending on Jack to find and save them may not work. He's laid up in the hospital with a badly damaged knee. However, Jack and all the lessons he's taught her are her saving grace. From the bug out bag she's carrying to her channeling "what would Jack do" becomes her mantra. A bad knee does not hold Jack back once he discovers Suz's disappearance. He uses all the weapons, contacts and favors in his arsenal to find and bring her home. It takes living through the worst ordeal of her life with Jack's guidance (in absentia) for Suz to finally understand how wrong and selfish she's been about Jack and his commitment to his job, his fellow man and eradicating the word of evil one missionat a time. This man lives her like nobody could and she can only hope that he'll forgive her and allow her to love him like he deserves.
I enjoyed the prep Jack did with Suzanne and her students. The "tactical" or "survival" training was interesting. That was about it. This was a long winded tale with Suz being caught up in her head.
I did not care for Suzanne from the very beginning of the book and the feeling lasted until the end.. I can understand Jack's job being too much for her. What I can't fathom is how callous you have to be to break up with someone laying in a hospital bed who can't move from just having surgery on their leg.
I thought it was unbelievable that Suz was perfectly willing to go along with the program with absolutely no push back. She had no proof that what she was told was true.
I didn't realize we were going to venture into the absurd. I won't go into any further detail other than Jack was unable to bend his knee, had new surgery, had not been released from the hospital, and had a fever. Yet he was able to complete a ton of physical feats, with no problem, that a completely healthy special ops person could handle.
Between Jack's super strength and Suz's trek through the jungle with a skill set she previously abhorred in Jack, the story became a bit too much. I kept switching from the ebook to the audiobook. Listening to Aiden Snow read it made it much more bearable.
I like reading series in order even if the stories are stand alone, yet here I am writing a first review after having read at least ten of her books. And not all in order. I was introduced to Ms. Quinn through her Kate Hamilton mysteries. She hooked me and I just can't get enough of her stories. She does her research. That is so rare when there are so many writers who finish their first draft of drivel that often defies the laws of reality, on Monday and publish on Friday. Facts are key, they are gold, they provide the details that transport the reader from their chair into the universe Quinn creates. Going into detail about the events in her books would take away from the joy if discovery. Her writing reminds me of Dan Silva. It draws you in and keeps you wanting more. Some people may not like all the accurate details yet it's those tiny things that make the story jump off the page at you. If this is the first time you are considering a Fiona Quinn, great, but begin with the WEAKEST LYNX. It will set you on a road of adventure you will not regret. Five star snaps in a Z formation including an exclamation point!
I really enjoyed this one! It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention the entire time! I absolutely loved Suz and how she just kept moving forward and doing the best that she could with what she had in front of her. I loved how Jack supported her as well. He took her fears about Sandy Hook and being a teacher and helped her prepare a plan and have supplies in case a shooter or something happened on campus so that she was prepared. It was fantastic. I loved how he prepared other things for her that she was able to reach back and pull forward to use when she is taken to be brought to the kidnapped kids. This story was well written and flowed well. Suz had been worried about what she could continue to handle with fear for Jack on his missions and then she ends up in a situation that changes how she thinks about all of it. She reevaluates how she looks at what he does and the sacrifice of worrying about him while he’s gone with the reality of needing him or someone like him to come after her and the kids to rescue them. I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait for the next one.
After four years of too much time apart, too many hours waiting for news at the hospital, teacher Suz Molloy weighs what she wants against what she has before breaking her own heart. Suz makes the hard decision to let her fiancé, Strike Force/Iniquus operative ex-Navy SEAL Jack McCullen go. Now while he’s still unconscious but out of danger.
Suz remembers and uses the safety measures Jack taught her when the school comes under direct attack, she ensures the safety of herself and 16 first graders. When the danger passes, Suz and her students are found unharmed, a biased news report labels Suz as a CIA agent and part of the political plot putting unnecessary attention on her.
While the good guys try to determine if and how Suz is involved in the plot, the bad guys wonder how the CIA was able to put an agent in place to thwart their plan. Meanwhile, Jack and Lynx desperately try to figure out a repeat ‘knowing’ and the pair ultimately deduce Suz is in trouble and in need and hurry to her home and gain a strong suspicion Suz has been kidnapped. Rating: 4.75stars
Excellent writing, exciting plotline, terrific characters, that is what this book brings to the reader. Gillian Susanne and Jack have been together for four years. He's all in, she's hesitant. She loves him but not his job, first as a SEAL and now as a special operative for Iniquus. She is terrified for him every time he is out in the field. This last mission he returns home injured and she has had enough. But life has a habit of changing course, and Suz finds out the truth of Jack's lifestyle, the hard way. As a first grade teacher, Suz should be safe. As an American teacher in current day she is not safe. But as innocent and naive as she may be, Suz is a smart and capable protector of her students. And she proves it. And Jack proves his love and determination by searching and following Suz on her unanticipated and unplanned mission, despite his injury. Turns out they make an amazing team. And after walking in Jack's shoes, Suz finally realizes the importance of Jack's career. And how much she loves him. Truly a great read.
Of all the series that fiona writes, I really enjoy strike force and lynx the best. This story of jacks, while not as much in action is fast paced and it kept me listening. There was a lot of thinking, reminiscing, and planning in this story. The h, although thinking she was totally useless, turned out to be strong, resilient, smart and amazingly adaptable. Her thought process and love for the H was the driving force behind the plotline. Just so enjoyed the development of the mission and how fiona describes the thought patterns and actions of all the characters. Lynx's inclusion was wonderful and so clever. although there was little romance and no steam, i Totally enjoyed this story and looking forward to the next. Fiona Quinn does so much research and the information she pieces together is staggering. And the nursery rhymes...so clever Amazing work and an amazing raft of information. Aiden Snow, simply amazing. Love his voice and he breathed life into these characters.
Let me start by writing that I started out reading Fiona Quinn's ARC copies, but now I buy her books because they have all been so excellent and she deserves to be supported! As far as this particular book goes, I couldn't put it down until I was finished and I don't think I've ever written that in a review before. Part of it was because the heroine is a teacher, which is dear to my heart (I taught 30 years before retiring). Just a side point, the use of the nursery rhymes to link to the action in the book was adorable. Anyway, from the very dramatic beginning (there was a shooting at an elementary school), to the HEA at the end, I was hooked. I didn't repeat much of the plot since it is described well in the book's blurb, but I wanted readers to simply know that, once again, I was thoroughly impressed with this author's work.
This newest book by Fiona Quinn is everything I thought it would be. The characters are people I became invested in. I hoped Suz and Jack would remain together in the future, but there were times I thought her fears would be the end of them. I can relate to her. It was interesting for me to read how Jack handled fear, and pushed through it.
The plot was intruiging. Children being kidnapped so the bad guys could influence the grandfather's votes. The protocols Jack put in place at Suz's school were awesome! I personally sat through teacher training each year that was ridiculous. I would have loved to have the training that Suz received, it was very effective.
The jungle camp scenes were filled with tension. Once Suz was in the jungle with the boys I kept reading till I finished the book.
If you like romantic suspense novels, this one is a must.
I absolutely loved this book! Jack has dated Suz for a year. His engagement ring is on her right hand because she won’t say yes. After Jack ends up jumping off a 3 story building right before it blows, thanks to Lynx’s test of Jack Be Nimble Jack Be Quick, and lands feet first on a moving car and needing surgery, Suz decides she can’t take his dangerous job any more. Before she can break up with him the school and where she teaches 1st grade is attacked by terrorist and 2 children, grandsons of a politician, are kidnapped. Suz also disappears. Jack knows she didn’t leave on her own and Lynx suspects this too. The search is on for the children and Suz. I loved the “knowings” that Lynx kept getting regarding Jack and nursery rhymes. This author has a way of pulling you into her books and you don’t want to leave!
WOW! Just Wow! Fiona Quinn really knows how to give you rollercoaster of a read!
