Chelsea grew up in rural New York, surrounded by cows and an appreciation for small farms. However, her real love affair with food began during a year abroad in Turkey, which sparked a passion for both food and history, as well as leading her to a degree in Classical History. A lifelong artist and fantasy fan, she greatly enjoys foreign languages, treasure hunting, and all things honey. She currently lives in Boston with several other cooks, and even more eaters, including one very happy Manx Cat.
Well met, traveler! Pull up a chair and lend an ear, for I’ve spent some time rummaging through the Innkeeper’s pantry, and I’ve got a tale or two to tell. Overall, I’d rate this tome of food and drink a respectable 3.4 out of 5. Not quite legendary, but certainly not dust-worthy either.
The Cocktails (3.7/5) The strongest deck in the book by far. Most were balanced, flavorful, and easy to summon in a hurry. My fondest memory here was the Grand Tournament Cobbler, which we brewed on New Year’s Day when our central heating failed. Bundled in blankets, that drink turned what could have been a miserable night into one of comfort and laughter. Sometimes, context is the secret spice.
The Mocktails (2.5/5) Here’s where the deck crumbles. Overly sweet, one-note, and not quite worth the grind. And lurking among them is the foulest concoction of all—the dreaded Hair of the Worgen. By the Light, I wouldn’t serve that to a Murloc! It is, without question, the worst drink I’ve ever sipped in my years of reviewing, and yes… somehow worse than the dreaded Star Wars Fish Bites. May it remain forever in the “do not craft” pile.
Savory Bites (3.6/5) Ah, here’s where the book shows its strength. The Proudmoore Platter was a feast worthy of its admiral’s name—my first 5 out of 5. The Naxxramas Nachos earned the other perfect score, a pile of cheese and spice that could raise the dead. The rest ranged from solid to middling, though nothing cursed my table.
Sweets (3/5) Not bad, not brilliant. A few fun bites here, but nothing that reached legendary status.
The theme is consistent, and the recipes are simple, which suits a tavern-style book. Nothing here requires you to raid a dragon’s hoard for rare ingredients. It’s food for gatherings, for laughter, for clinking mugs. On that front, the book delivers.
Final Verdict: 3.4/5 Not quite a legendary drop, but a solid rare. The highs are high (those nachos!) and the lows… well, the Hair of the Worgen belongs in the Hall of Shame. A fun cookbook for Hearthstone fans, though perhaps not one you’ll be crafting from every week.
So sayeth Tarth—may your mugs stay full and your meals never fizzle.
A lot of the recipes look fantastic. After loving all the recipes from the Game of Thrones cookbook and the World of Warcraft cookbook I am excited to try these, especially Sarge's Mac and Cheese!
As a lifelong Blizzard fangirl, this cookbook did not disappoint. It is written as though genuinely written by the Innkeeper featured in the famed online CCG, Hearthstone. Several drink and food recipes that feel like 'tavern fare' and sound delicious to boot. I am very excited to look for others in the Blizzard-verse and can't wait to add this to my permanent collection ASAP.
