Steve Chapman and his wife, Annie Chapman, are award-winning musicians who take their message of Christ-centered family to fans all over North America. Steve’s enthusiasm for Jesus, family, hunting, and humor shine in his books, including A Look at Life from a Deer Stand (nearly 300,000 copies sold), The Hunter’s Cookbook (with Annie Chapman), and Great Hunting Stories.
This was a good book about how to apply face to real world situations. I’m not a hunter and I don’t have hunting experience, but I could relate to these stories as they were also just about problems, experiences, relationships, and things in general that had to do with interacting with nature, the world and other men in general. It was a collection of about 15 or so stories, and could be picked up and put down at any time for a quick read.
If you’ve read Steve Chapman’s books before, then you know what to expect. This book is more of the same great hunting stories mixed with revelations about how these stories relate to God. This book also has stories from Don Hicks, another pastor and author. I love these short stories about hunting and how Chapman and Hicks relate hunting to my relationship with God.
Isaiah 30:21, "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."
God is always working! I was visiting my fiancé and I convinced her to walk around Bass Pro Shop with me (love that) and I came across this book. I wasn't sure what to expect; however, as hunting season was quickly approaching it is safe to say I was getting excited so I bought it. This was a book that I didn't know that I needed. Steve Chapman very eloquently intertwined how our Almighty Lord and Savior had worked in his life through hunting. As an avid hunter, Steve made correlations to faith through hunting that I have gained an even greater love and appreciation that our God has blessed us with. Through this book I have grown in my faith and couldn't be more excited to glorify God throughout this upcoming hunting season.
I found this book really quite interesting. I thought I was anti all hunting so was surprised to be reminded that humans hunt animals for food as much as animals do, but then I do live in England! There is clearly much to be learnt from being a hunter and this book covers many topics, including birth and death, all from a Christian viewpoint, or stand. I especially enjoyed the poems at the end of some of the stories. My only criticism is on one of the final stories where he says grandfathers have influence over their grandchildren. A bit sexist for my liking! Grandmothers do too and surely there are female hunters as much as this book is going to have female readers. I was given this book by NetGalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary review.
