What You Don't See Might Hurt You

Every year, residents of the small Amish community in Monte Vista, Colorado, look forward to the Ski Hi Stampede, the state's oldest professional rodeo. The rodeo is always good, clean entertainment for the hardworking farmers of the San Luis Valley. But this year, the Stampede turns deadly for one Amish man. Did rodeo fans see an unfortunate accident? Or something more sinister?

Amish bishop Henry Lapp is known far and wide for his uncanny ability to draw and remember the smallest details of anything he's seen, skills that have served him well in past investigations. He was at the rodeo that day. The problem? He didn't see Jason Scott's death.

With a murderer on the loose and members of his community being threatened, Henry must act fast. But can he solve a crime he didn't see? This time around, Henry will have to rely on his keen sense of human character and observation, skills he's honed in his role as bishop, if he hopes to crack the case.

What the Bishop Knows is a story of accepting our talents, putting one another first, and trusting that God will care for His children.

Every seat in the arena was filled. Every person watched as an Amish youth, Jeremiah Schwartz rode his horse into the rodeo ring. Suddenly a shot rang out from the crowd and the young Amish contender lay on the ground dead. A few seconds of silence passed before the crowd of spectators leapt to their feet and rushed to the closest exit. But where did the shot come from? Who would shoot Jeremiah from the crowd and hope to get away unnoticed?
Vannetta Chapman takes readers through many twist and turns as Sheriff Grayson heads the investigation into finding who the murderer really was. As I read along into the story I begin picking out different murder suspects. I admit to being totally surprised by who turned out to be the actual killer. I found this story to be truly what is referred to as edge of the seat reading.
I recommend Who the Bishop Knows to all readers who like cozy murder mysteries, Amish fiction and for anyone who read the first two books of Vannetta Chapman's The Amish Bishop Mysteries.
I was fortunate to have won a signed copy of this book in a Valentine's Day giveaway from the author. It was my pleasure to review it and I have given an honest review.

Who The Bishop Knows by Vannetta Chapman is a wonderful Amish murder mystery. It is the third book in the Amish Bishop Mysteries series but can be read as a stand-alone.
Once again Bishop Henry and Emma are called upon to solve crimes in partnership with the police department. It is all very 'Miss Marple' as the Amish duo do the thinking and the police department provide the back-up.
The Amish are community based. "We celebrate together and we mourn together." They are there to support each other. "Very few burdens are heavy if everyone lifts." This sense of community reaches out to the reader.
Friends are important. They support us in the good and the bad. We all need friends who are just 'there' for us. "Not talking... so much as sharing the burden of grief." In times of grief when words cannot help, a kind friend is invaluable.
We never know when our time is up - it is important to practice carpe diem. "The moment you were in was the one you had to enjoy, because there was no way to control what happened next." Live every day as if it is your last.
Vannetta Chapman employs the technique of pathetic fallacy as a storm mirrors the action.
We need to place our trust in God. We need to pray to Him at all times. He will hear and answer. We need to trust His timing. If we rely on Him, we need never fear tomorrow.
I am loving this Amish Bishop Mysteries series. All the stories are gripping and well thought out. I love the amateur sleuthing that gets the job done. These are fun reads and would make smashing Hallmark viewing.
I received this book for free from Net Galley. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

Who The Bishop Knows ( The Amish Bishop Mysteries-Book 3 )
By: Vannetta Chapman
Who The Bishop Knows is book there and the last in The Amish Bishop Mysteries Series. I want to say that I truly have enjoyed this series and hate to see it end. I believe it has been one of my favorites. The author has a way of bringing the story and the characters to life. I was grabbed at the start and did not want to put it down. We are carried back to the residents and small community of monte Vista, Colorado. Everyone is looking forward to the rodeo. There is a dead that was not expected. There is a mystery to solve and romance is in the air. Henry and Emma make a great team. Henry and his special talent, but is he able to help out this time?
I was given a complimentary copy by NetGalley and the publisher, but was not told that I had to give a positive review.

A well-written murder mystery set in the heart of the Amish community of Monte Vista, Colorado. This faith filled community rallies together to aid the local sheriff in solving the perplexing murder of a young man who is shot during a rodeo event, in front of a crowd. The young people get involved to assist when asked, giving this a bit of a 'Nancy Drew' feel at times. A steady paced tale with an action-packed conclusion to the investigation, it kept me guessing with some interesting twists along the way.

This is the final book of the series, but easily reads as a standalone, and the author carefully leaves out spoilers from the first two mysteries, with just enough detail to tie them together. I loved the kindhearted, wise, patient Bishop Henry and his mature friendship turned romance with the widow Emma. Their relationship is a lovely example to others and the ending was a perfect way to wrap up the series. It reminded me of Father Tim and Cynthia from the Mitford series. Their bravery and love for their friends shows their faith in action. The Bible passages quoted and bits of Amish wisdom are naturally woven into the story. I like how Henry realizes the unusual gift he has been given to draw from a photographic memory is from God, and he need not be ashamed of it. We are all unique and can help each other when we come together as believers.

A well-written story that should appeal to any reader who enjoys Christian mysteries. 4.5 stars

This series has been so fun to read. The author has a gift for detail and makes her characters so easy to relate to. Henry Lapp has a unique gift that comes in handy . He can remember even the tiniest of details that he has seen. His ability to draw those details is a gift that I'm sure many police stations would love to have on their staff. I can't remember my own phone number sometimes, so this gift would be a treasure to have.

As the annual rodeo in Monte Vista, Colorado gears up, an unexpected tragic event happens. Jeremiah has everything to look forward to. He is in the rodeo hoping for a career when he is shot. I would immediately be looking for Henry to help pinpoint who the killer is. Funny thing about gifts, though. Sometimes they aren't as good as you think they are. Henry is upset that he didn't see anything but maybe he can convince his Amish community to speak up. Amish aren't ones to get the police involved in their problems so Henry is going to have to be on his game to get the killer behind bars.

The story is filled with intrigue and I loved how the author draws you in with emotional twists and turns. I have always like Henry and the love of his life, Emma. Will this case cause Emma to second think marrying Henry? His gift would be a challenge to have to live with, so Emma must really search her heart. Let's not forget about Jeremiah, our deceased in the story. What secrets did he have that could have caused him to be a target? I was surprised at who turned out to be the killer and why they did it. It just shows how creative the author is when you can keep readers guessing til the end. I'm sad to see the series end, but very pleased with the ending. It is a fitting send off for a series that captured the essence of unconditional love and forgiveness.

I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.

This has been a great series and I have enjoyed getting a peek in the lives of the people of the Amish community in Monte Vista, Colorado and how they get along with the Englischers. I know that this is probably the last book in the series but it would be fun to see other books taking place in the community. After all, there are many youngies coming along with the promise of some getting together.
Bishop Henry Lapp has a special gift of being able to draw a scene like a photograph capturing emotions and actions without consciously remembering the details. This is a gift that occurred after being hit in the head by a baseball as a child. He hasn't always considered it a gift but it has helped solve some mysteries. When a young Amish man is shot and killed while participating in a rodeo, he doesn't think he can help find the killer because he wasn't in the arena when it happened but was in line at a concession stand. But the killer doesn't know that he might not have seen anything. His soon to be bride, Emma Fisher, is tired of crime solving that she and Henry have been involved in and wants nothing to do with it. However, events happen to involve them and other loved ones against their wishes. This is a great addition/finale to the series and has lots of suspense with surprises along the way. It is recommended to read this series in order to get the best picture of the events that are taking place.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers for an ARC of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.

Bishop Henry Lapp and Emma Fisher are back in this third book in the Amish Bishop Mysteries series. The town of San Luis Valley, Colorado is hosting the Ski Hi Stampede, a professional rodeo. Many from the community have turned out to watch the event, including several Amish families. While Henry is at the concession stand waiting for his food, he hears "the unmistakable crack of a rifle". Within a few seconds, the screaming starts. Someone has been shot. It turns out it was an Amish boy who was participating in the rodeo. Henry and Emma don't want to involve themselves in this tragedy, but the boy who was shot was the grandson of one of his congregants. Henry must get involved if only to comfort Ruth.

There were lots of twists and turns and just when you think you are figuring it out, there is another turn. It was hard to put this one down! I enjoyed getting to know Emma's grandchildren, Silas and Katie Ann, as well as Katie Ann's friend Naomi Miller. And of course, it was enjoyable to get to know Emma better and struggle with her through fears and doubts.

This story is a reminder that God can be trusted, that he puts us in people's lives for a reason and his plans never fail.

Who the Bishop Knows by Vannetta Chapman is the third story in The Amish Bishop Mysteries. Bishop Henry Lapp is attending the Ski Hi Stampede in Monte Vista, Colorado with his fiancé, Emma Fisher. Jeremiah Schwartz comes out of the chute to wrangle a steer and a shot rings out. Henry, who was obtaining refreshments, runs to check on Emma and notices Jeremiah on the ground. Unfortunately, Jeremiah does not survive the bullet wound. Jeremiah was visiting his grandmother, Ruth Schwartz for the summer to help her with farm chores, and he competes at local rodeo’s as an amateur steer wrangler. Who would want to harm Jeremiah? In the past, Henry has used his unique gift to draw scenes to help solve crimes. This time, though, Henry did not witness the shooting. Sheriff Roy Grayson will still need Henry’s help in speaking with Jeremiah’s friends and family as well as utilizing his observation skills and ability to judge a person’s character. They soon discover that Jeremiah had secrets and one of them could have gotten him killed. Can they catch the culprit before he harms someone else? Henry would like the crime solved before his wedding to Emma in three weeks. Come to Monte Vista one last time to help Bishop Henry Lapp solve Jeremiah’s murder and see the nuptials of this adorable couple.

Who the Bishop Knows is the final installment in The Amish Bishop Mysteries. It can be read as a standalone since the author provides details on Henry’s ability, his relationship with Emma, and the mysteries from the previous two books. I do not feel, though, that the author had to keep mentioning the prior mysteries (the details were repeated several times). Who the Bishop Knows contains good writing and fluid transitions. I found the pace a little slow in the first half of the book. The story was not moving forward. The pacing does pick up later in the book. The mystery was interesting, but the culprit can be easily identified. How Jeremiah was murdered was unique (modern and out-of-box). I have not encountered it in a book previously. I do wish there had been more action. The investigation, for the most part, consists of questioning and speculation. The one thing I did not like was the transcript sections (a transcript of police interviews). They disrupt the flow of the story. Those sections remind me of reading a script (static is the word that comes to mind). There is a significant amount of scripture in Who the Bishop Knows. I like how the author tied each verse into what was occurring at the time. It was lovely to visit Monte Vista and catch up with Henry and Emma. They are such a sweet couple. I have enjoyed watching their relationship develop over the course of the series. I am glad that Henry has learned to accept his gift. The ending of Who the Bishop Knows was just lovely and heartfelt.

This is the third book in this series and I am rather sad to see it end, I loved being with Henry, the Amish Bishop, and Emma, his soon to be wife, and would love to continue on with their lives.
In this book, the author has an Amish man competing in a Rodeo, and then he is murdered, in front of everyone, but no one seems to know where the shot came from.
As the story unfolds, surprises abound, and we learn of a dark side of this Rodeo Amish man, and who is responsible, and when you think you know the answers, things begin to spiral.
While I guessed early on who the perpetrator was, the story still kept me page turning, and when you learn how the shot was fired was mind boggling.
As I said I will miss this bishop and the people around him, and really hope for more.

"The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials." (205)

I've been a fan of Vannetta Chapman's Amish stories since Joshua's Mission, the very first book of hers I've read. From then on, you can count on me to follow her writing journey. Afterwards, I've been wanting to check out her Amish mysteries from all the buzz I've heard, and I was quite excited when the first book of The Amish Bishop Mysteries, What the Bishop Saw released. Two books later, and we're at the end of the road for this beloved series. Who the Bishop Knows, the third book closes out the series perfectly. Even though each book can be read as a standalone, some of the basic themes throughout continue to make its presence among the mystery of the day.

Who the Bishop Knows starts out with a bang...quite literally and at a rodeo! Who knew you can associate Amish with "rodeo"? And it's quite interesting to see how the Amish integrates with the Englisch when it comes to community experiences. Add in the fact that this was my very first novel that featured the activity, I'm glad to have come away learning a thing or two. That's another thing I love about the author's writing. It's refreshing in many ways, but it also teaches me something new.

There's a mystery to be solved, yet unlike the first two books in the series, Who the Bishop Knows did not center on Bishop Henry's unique ability. He and his fiance, Emma were not caught in the middle of the mystery of the book as the others have. Yet, it's only through this, can we see the growth in other characters as they accept Henry and God's gift to him. I love how it goes full circle in learning to trust God, but also reinforcing the camaraderie of the community. In all, Who the Bishop Knows combines faith, love, and a bit of a mystery that rallies for readers to take heart in life, and in those around us. I'm going to miss this series and the characters, including the cute little beagle, Lexi!

This is the third and final book in a fantastic series of Amish mysteries. This book could easily be read as a standalone as the author gives enough background information that the reader easily becomes caught up in the action. I had read the other two and loved each of them! However, I believe that this last one is THE BEST! If you want to read something different from the everyday kind of Amish fiction that is on the market, look no further. This book grabs your attention in the first chapter and maintains it until you have read the last page.

Vannetta has the ability to describe her characters in such a detailed, realistic way that you easily identify with each of them. Henry Lapp has a concern for the community that is admirable. He is such a kind, loving man, compassionate and patient, who has a unique gift that he uses only when it is needed! After all, he is Amish, he must not show off or be proud. Emma endeared herself to me very quickly. This couple, in their so called golden years are striving to find future together, however, obstacles seem to crop up to challenge each effort. Each of the characters comes with their own backgrounds of difficulties. Excellent development of character was evident throughout this tale.

The plot was full of unexpected twists and turns. I had a very difficult time putting this book down to deal with everyday reality. The tension builds as the plot thickens. The author even uses some humour to lighten tense situations. The theme of keeping one's eyes on the Lord is underlying every event. Henry has to struggle to keep his faith strong in the most difficult times. A great example to all of us.

I was very sad to say goodbye to these characters and their lives in this last book of the series. But, I must say, that I am also very eager to see what adventures Vannetta decides to write about in her next new book!

A five star book!!

This book was received as a gift. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.

Who the Bishop Knows by Vannetta Chapman is book 3 of The Amish Bishop series. I have to say, I kind of hate to see the end of this series. I have really enjoyed getting to know the people of Monte Vista, Colorado. I think this one may be my favorite of the three, but each one was great.

The quiet community of Monte Vista, Colorado has seen it's fair share of excitement over the past couple years, but things have begun to settle down. People are getting back to their normal lives, whether it be Amish or English. Then the rodeo comes to town and now there's a murder mystery involving an Amish rodeo contestant to solve. Bishop Henry and Emma have decided to let the authorities figure this mystery out themselves. But when the community is thrust in the middle of the investigation, what can they do but try to find the killer themselves?

This story had all the mystery and suspense of the first two, but for me, when you add in the elements of the rodeo, it really grabbed my attention. I recommend everyone read this series. Who the Bishop Knows wraps up a few of the budding romances we've seen throughout the series, so you wouldn't want to miss out on the back story of these fantastic characters.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This my honest opinion of Who the Bishop Knows.

A reread that is just as good the second time around

---

"Messing with the Englisch police was one thing. Pushing an Amish grandmother to the end of her kapp strings was quite another. Both were dangerous." (p 302)

The perfect blend of humour, mystery and trademark Amish wisdom. I've really enjoyed this series and am sad to see it come to a close. But, if it has to end, this is a fitting grande finale!

Henry's back with yet another murder to solve. And, as in the previous books, his sweetheart Emma is right there at his side, helping to decipher clues and make sense of the senseless. In fact, the whole Amish community gets involved -- including Lexi, Henry's 'mostly beagle'. I'll admit, the mystery had me stumped and I went down a whole rabbit warren of false trails before finding out the truth...right along with Henry. I was soooo sure the murder was someone else! Very clever writing, Ms. Chapman!

I read this in a day because I couldn't put it down no matter how hard I tried. 'Just one more chapter' I'd tell myself, and then, because the chapters are short, I'd convince myself to read another. And another. Pretty soon I gave up all hope of getting anything else done until Henry, Emma and I solved the mystery once and for all!

The final book in the Amish Bishop Mysteries "Who the Bishop Knows" is my favorite in the series. All the books were good but this one held my attention more than the first two. I stayed up way too late in order to finish it.

This book started off with someone getting murdered. The murderer knows that Henry has these drawing skills and is threatened by Henry's ability even though Henry really did not see anything that could be beneficial to the investigation.

This book involved the youngies (Amish youth) getting involved in the investigation. I had no idea who the murderer was until it was revealed. I had a tiny inkling when Bishop Henry and Emma revealed their suspicions but was not sure.

I am sorry to see this series end but am pretty sure the author has another excellent series in the works.

Who the Bishop Knows by Harvest House is due to be released on March 6, 2018. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a digital copy of this book to read and review.

Book three of The Amish Bishop Mysteries, Who the Bishop Knows, created an enjoyable diversion in between projects I had procrastinated doing. The story opens with a death at the local rodeo. The bishop, who usually discovers the answers to crime through his photographic mind, wasn't there when the murder occurred. His vibrant, caring community trusts him and the longer the suspect is out there the more tension builds. He must rely on his drawings to see anything unusual.
You will find this book delightful as well as the characters.

I couldn't wait to read this third book in the series. Through it, I feel like I came to know Emma a little better as well as getting to know other characters a little more. As Henry and Emma come closer to their wedding, I enjoyed seeing their love for each other come out. The book took a little different turn than I expected but it was a good turn. Although you can read this as a stand alone novel, I would recommend reading the others first as it gives more insight into the community and the characters. I will miss Henry although I am glad their community will not have to track down any more murders😄

Wow! What a well written and fun cozy Amish mystery! This was the first book from the Amish Bishop series that I read and I am hooked! Bishop Henry Lapp is at the refreshment counter of the Colorado Ski Hi Rodeo when he hears a rifle shot. His only thought is of Emma, his soon to be wife. As he is running to find her, everyone else is running in the opposite direction. He glances into the arena and sees Jeremiah Schwartz lying on the ground. Jeremiah has come to Monte Vista to live with his grandmother, help her with the farm and try his hand at the local rodeos around the area. He\'s been done pretty well until now.

Naomi Miller has been seeing Jeremiah since he moved to town. They are both from Goshen, Indiana and have several friends from there in common. But Naomi has discovered that they have little else in common. Both are in their rumspringa, but Jeremiah has been running with the wrong crowd.

Several strange things happen in their Amish community over the next few days. The sheriff\'s investigation is coming up empty, and Henry and Emma do not want to get involved again in finding a killer. When Naomi and her best friend Katie Ann disappear, Henry and Emma go into action to do whatever they can to bring the girls back? Is their disappearance connected to Jeremiah\'s killer?

WHO THE BISHOP KNOWS is Vannetta Chapman\'s third installment of her The Amish Bishop Mysteries series. Henry and Emma have been involved in helping the local sheriff with two other murder investigations over the past couple of years. Henry has a special "gift" that has led them to solve these murders. Henry and Emma are strong, realistic characters who are leaders in their community. They are surrounded by a plethora of supporting characters, some Amish and some Englisch. These two groups have a good relationship and live and work in harmony in this small mid-western town. Ms. Chapman explores the grief and uncertainty that is a part of life. WHO THE BISHOP KNOWS is a story about family dynamics and our day to day struggles. Although this is the third book in this series, and many characters have already been introduced in the two previous books, Ms. Chapman lays out the background very well. You can just jump right in and enjoy a great Amish murder mystery!

Who the Bishop Knows by Vannetta Chapman is the third and final installment of The Amish Bishop Series. The “final” installment; that word sounds, well, so final. I’m not sure I’m quite ready to leave the Amish community of Monte Vista, Colorado. After all it was in Monte Vista we first met the delightful, but somewhat serious Bishop Lapp who mysteriously was able to draw, in exquisite detail, the things his mind saw. No, he does not have a photographic memory; it is different, something that began when he was yet a boy, after being hit in the head by a baseball bat. Unfortunately, in the small Amish community of his childhood, and even his parents, many were a bit frightened by this new gift, leaving his family with the decision of forbidding young Henry Lapp using the gift.

Fast forward, Henry Lapp an older (and single) bishop in Monte Vista; while this community was not the one the bishop grew up in, he continued to squelch this ability. He is well-loved, respected bishop who has a heart full of compassion for those who find themselves hurting or in trouble. It is this compassionate heart that leads Bishop Lapp to draw again in What the Bishop Saw when an innocent person is arrested for arson and murder. Again, Bishop Lapp is unable to resist the urging of God to bring out the paper and pencils in When the Bishop Needs an Alibi, when he himself is in the direct vision of law enforcement investigators when a young woman is found dead in a nearby Wildlife Refuge. Oh, and I dare not forget Emma; Emma and Henry had been friends for some time but something new is growing between them; could it be love?

I eagerly began reading Who the Bishop Knows for I just had to know what kind of trouble was going to find Bishop Henry Lapp this time. The state’s oldest rodeo is held yearly in Monte Vista. (I love a good rodeo; you?). This year someone is going to die at the rodeo; not by injury from the rodeo itself, but someone will die. How? A skilled marksman with a high-powered rifle shoots rodeo performer Jeremiah Schwartz, who, though raised Amish, had not yet joined the community as a member. His death hits the Amish community especially hard.

As the investigation begins, Henry finds himself at a bit of a loss; he was at the concession stand buying refreshments when the shooting occurred. He isn’t able to draw what happened like he had previously. Bishop Lapp begins by providing support to his members; with his astute understanding of people and human nature, things begin to capture his attention. And his special gift comes into play after all.

Who would kill Jeremiah and why? He certainly isn’t rich; this is an amateur rodeo after all. Nor is any one in at risk of losing their standings on the rodeo circuit. What is going on? Read Who the Bishop knows to find out. It isn’t who or what you might think it to be. And just who does Bishop Henry Lapp know?

My Thoughts
The Amish Bishop Mysteries have been an enjoyable Amish/Cozy mystery series. Years ago I used to read cozy mysteries and then one day I just stopped. I'm not even sure why. This series reawakened the interest that I'd had in cozy mysteries years ago.

Bishop Henry makes this entire series. The unique talent that allows him to draw anything with perfect photographic memory makes him feel like he's cursed. Over the course of this series, we see Henry accept his talent as a gift from God. His story is one of love and acceptance.

One of my favorite things about this series is the sweet love story between Henry and Emma. It is rare to find any story (Amish or otherwise) where a man and woman in their 60-70's fall in love. It's just not done. Which is a shame! I appreciate that the author shows that Henry and Emma are still valid members of their home and community.

Overall, this book flowed at a nice, easy pace. I had suspicions of who had committed the crime and a certain incident sealed their guilt in my mind. Solving the crime didn't ruin the story for me as the author managed to keep an air of mystery on how the crime was committed.

My only real complaint is that there is one character that has no resolution. I won't say who this character is as it would subtract one of the suspects. I would have liked to have known what happened to him/her after the mystery was resolved though as a secondary character, it doesn't detract from the star rating for me.

Though the series wraps up nicely, I'm sad to say goodbye to these characters. I'm not sure if I'm ready for the series to be over. Still, I look forward to future cozy mysteries by this author in the future.

This book was provided to me by the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. All opinions are my own.

Bishop Henry Lapp, as characterized by author Vannetta Chapman, is everyone’s wise pastor rolled into their favorite grandfather. Usually, when I picture an Amish Bishop, I picture a disciplinarian, knowledgeable about the scripture, but serious and sober most of the time. Henry Lapp breaks that mold. His gentleness with his flock drew me in, and his willingness to listen to the counsel of his deacons before passing judgement was a breath of fresh air. I also loved how willingly he showed his love for Emma Fisher – holding her hand and hugging her, even though others were present to see. It was so sweet!
Book 3 in the Amish Bishop Mysteries series, Who the Bishop Knows, focuses this time, not on what Henry saw, but on what he didn’t see. Henry is a savant, of sorts. Due to a childhood accident with a baseball, Henry can draw pictures that are better than photographs, of things he has seen. His drawings were used in the first two books to solve at least two murders. This time, when Jeremiah Schwartz gets shot out of the saddle at the Ski High Rodeo, Henry was outside the arena in the food line. What could he have possibly seen there? Nothing! Unfortunately, Jeremiah’s killer doesn’t know that, and comes after Henry to prevent him from drawing.
Determined to “stay out of it”, Henry and Emma are nevertheless drawn into the investigation. As the amateur sleuths pursue leads the police haven’t seen, can they keep their families safe from a killer? What happens when Emma’s granddaughter, Katie Ann and her friend get caught up in the action as well?
Chapman’s writing style takes me back to my Trixie Belden mysteries days. Each step in the mystery is meticulously plotted to lead to the next one, and each character has a key role in the story. I also loved all the “Amish Proverbs” scattered throughout. Henry and Emma’s strong love for each other and their equally strong faith in the God who loves them, came through loud and clear.
While this book can be read as a stand-alone novel, I urge readers to also read the first two. I’m going to have to go back and pick up the first one myself, since I started on book 2. Meeting the characters and getting to know them is half the fun in this one. Some of them, including Henry, jump off the page and into your heart. This was a highly enjoyable series to read! I definitely recommend!

Who the Bishop Knows by Vannetta Chapman is the third book in the Amish Bishop Mystery series. I wondered why when I had enjoyed the first two books in the series, I had not read the third. Once I started reading, I kept thinking the story was familiar. Yep, I had read the book but never marked it read on Goodreads and had forgotten that I had read it 😂

One of the reasons I enjoy this series is because it has such a unique storyline. First, the main character is Henry the Bishop. So often in Amish fiction, the main character is a female. So, it is refreshing to have a story from a different perspective. Second, Henry has a unique gift. He can draw events from memory with precise details. This gift enables him to help the police solve the mystery of the crimes.

Even though I had read Who the Bishop Knows before, I am glad I read it again. I remembered many details, but I did not remember how the story resolved. There is enough mystery and action to keep the story moving, making it hard to put down! This story could be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading the first two in the series. While this story touches on how Henry received his gift, the first book explains it in more detail. Also, you see how the characters have evolved through the series.

I loved this series, and can't wait to read more by Vannetta Chapman.

Who the Bishop Knows is the third amazing book written by Vanetta Chapman in her new series The Amish Bishop Mysteries. When the book opens we are quickly reacquainted with characters from the first two books. I enjoyed this book immensely and I am sorry to see the series end.

The characters are very likeable and realistic. My favorite two characters are Henry the Bishop and Emma his future fraa. These two are kicking back and looking forward to their upcoming wedding with no worries. But wait there is another murder will Henry be called upon to do his fantastic drawings once again and will this involve them in the investigation once again? This murder mystery is absolutely wonderful and just when you think you have the killer figured out things go the opposite direction. I loved that Lexie, Henry's Beagle got a cameo performance in this story.

I was given an advanced eBook copy of this book by Netgalley to read and review. I was not approached at any time to post a favorable review. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. All statements and opinions expressed are strictly my own.

Congratulations to Vanetta Chapman on delivering another outstanding book for her readers to enjoy. I will be anticipating more books by this author in the future.

Who the Bishop Knows is the third book and conclusion in this sweet Amish cozy murder mysteries. If that doesn't sound like a juxtaposition, it should. I think that is why I like Vannetta Chapman's series so well. She holds up the slower, trusting life of the Amish, represented by Henry Lapp and Emma Fisher and her clan, against the fast-paced life of the English world as it invades Henry and Emma's world once again with murder.

I love Henry and Emma and so many things about them. Their growing relationship as they prepare for their marriage; their gentleness and determination to be supportive of each other in whatever way possible; and also, their mutual love for their flock as well. They complement each other perfectly in their care for the People.

Chapman reminds us that Amish young people face the same temptations as their Englischer counterparts. Jeremiah Schwartz has his sights set on the rodeo circuit before (if) he joins the Church, and something about that desire brings his death.

Chapman ups the ante in this last book by limiting Henry's abilities. It is so neat to see how he and Emma finally reach their conclusions by other means. There were several other surprises as well that helped make this story the treat that I had expected. If you love Amish and cozies, you won't go wrong in picking up this series or this book. Best as part of the series, Who the Bishop Knows can stand alone as well.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher. I am under no obligation to leave a positive review, and all opinions are my own.

I rarely read novels in the heavily saturated Amish genre but I have enjoyed the ones from Chapman. I find them to be a good exploration of the Plain lifestyle as it intersects with the “Englisch.” I always like a good mystery and Chapman has included one here.

Part of what I find attractive in Chapman's writing is how she informs readers of the Plain lifestyle. Like urban families who deal with the increase in technology, so do those in this segment of the Amish. Some have phones in their workshops. All use a communal telephone shack. Some use solar panels, the blessing of which the bishop gives in this novel. There is a reference to American life in the decade before WW I and how it is similar to Plain life today.

Chapman centers on a problem we all face at some time. People may not be who they seem to be. Such is the case in the Plain community in Monte Vista, Colorado. It leads to murder and danger to members of the community. I like how Henry, the bishop of the book's title, enlists the entire community to help solve the mystery.

Chapman has placed a few transcripts of sheriff interviews within the narrative. I really felt that broke the rhythm of the plot. I would have rather had her write the scenes as regular action. Other than that, I enjoyed the plot and the good character development. It has been fun getting to know Henry, Emma, and the others in the community. I do recommend this novel to mystery lovers but start with the first in the series. This novel reads well on its own but following Henry's experiences from the beginning is even better.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

I won this book in a giveaway, so this was my introduction to the Amish Bishop Mystery series and to Vannetta Chapman's writing. Here are my thoughts:
Things I liked:
- This book can stand alone, so if you're like me and the first book you're reading is the third in the series, you can keep up. Even though the mysteries from the previous two books are mentioned throughout, there are no spoilers.
- I'm not familiar with Amish culture, so if Ms. Chapman's depictions of Amish life are accurate to the way some Amish communities actually live their lives, then I've learned a lot about the Amish. However, I'm unable to say how much artistic license was incorporated versus how much is based off of reality.
Things I didn't like:
- My biggest disappointment was that (** semi-spoiler alert! **) it's too obvious to figure out who the killer is. The killer is a caricature of a "bad seed" and there's no attempt to add complexity to the killer's character or to even throw some misdirecting details into other characters to give the reader any doubt about who the killer might be. The lack of 'mystery' to this mystery novel is why I'm giving it three stars.
Overall, I'd say that, for someone looking for a "gentle" mystery series, this is a great option. The plot is G-rated and the focus of the book is more on having the reader feel like part of the community through depictions of everyday life and character interactions. And, of course, there's a happy ending!

A perfect ending to a great series.

In book 3 of The Amish Bishop Mystery series, a young Amish boy is murdered during the rodeo. Bishop Henry is attending the rodeo with his fiancé and family and was outside the grandstands when the murder occurred so he did not see it take place. As he works with Sheriff Grayson he learns the deceased and many of the Amish youth were involved in betting. A huge no-no for the Amish. Will Henry still be able to use his drawing talent to help solve the crime? Can the murder be solved before more murders occur? Jon Henry and his community in this final installment to find out.

Each book in the series can be read as a stand alone but you get the maximum effect if you read in order.
Book One: What the Bishop Saw
Book Two: When the Bishop Needs an Alibi
Book Three: Who the Bishop Knows

Each book will keep you awake past your bedtime. You will be saying “just one more chapter” repeatedly. I cannot pick a favorite.

In Who the Bishop Knows you will get answers to many questions and many romances are finalized. I will miss my time with Lexi, Bishop Henry’s dog and Katie Ann. I am longing to visit the Monte Vista community.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers for an advanced copy to read and review based on my own thoughts and opinions.
