Life gets pretty boring when you beat the snot out of every villain with just one punch.
Nothing about Saitama passes the eyeball test when it comes to superheroes, from his lifeless expression to his bald head to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking guy has a not-so-average problem—he just can’t seem to find an opponent strong enough to take on!
At the martial arts tournament, Suiryu of the Dark Body Art shows promise with his outstanding strength. But outside the stadium, a large number of monsters are pushing the heroes, even Genos, to their limits! Back inside and unaware, Saitama approaches his match against Bakuzan!
Manga creator ONE first created One-Punch Man as a web comic, where it quickly went viral, garnering over 10,000,000 hits! Along with One-Punch Man, ONE also writes and draws another series called Mob Psycho 100.
A great volume that sees the Monster Association plans cause havoc across the land as Saitama continues, unaware, taking part in a hero competition, unknowingly having Genos cover his monster-fighting back in the real world. There's also a superb bonus chapter featuring attempts, plural, on King's life. With some spanking fight-scene art, ridiculous monsters and the totally awesome Esper Sisters this series goes from good to very good in this volume. 8 out of 12, best volume yet! 2023
This was almost a two star volume for me, but I love the pacing of this volume so I couldn’t justify giving it anything lower than three stars.
There just wasn’t enough Saitama and Genos moments in this volume. It was focused solely on side characters. Most of these side characters were just thrown into the chaos of either the monster association or the martial arts tournament, so they’re all fairly new and it was impossible to keep track of them all.
The only thing I really loved about this volume was seeing the sisters interact. I’d love to see more of their interactions in the future as I find the sisters are more interesting to read about when they’re together.
After a slight misdirection from the recent bland volumes, One-Punch Man is back on track with its signature funny and over-the-top action as monsters simultaneously attack cities while Saitama (Charanko) makes his way to the semifinal round of the martial arts tournament.
ONE and Murata are done setting up the stage in this current story arc. Since Boros the team continued to exapand Saitama's world beyond just monsters and heroes. Now, the true plot of this arc is on its way to be revealed as the (possibly) main villain has been introduced.
The authors have effectively narrated the events in the tournament arena and fights across the city side by side as panels and dialogues transition across these events as smoothly as possible.
It is also interesting to note that Murata clearly got inspiration from Dragon Ball Z in drawing many of his characters in this volume.
Volume 12 of OPM puts back the whole series in my personal top read list. Good job!
Why wouldn’t they just recognize Saitama’s strength already? They’d rather believe that the monster was really weak (never mind the fact that it beat numerous other heroes, caused a lot of damage and was considered a major threat before facing Saitama) than admit that Saitama really is strong enough to defeat anyone with a single punch. So unfair. Anyway, I’m glad we finally get to see some of the strongest heroes in action for the first time. Watchdog man, Child Emperor and Pig God are all in Class S for a reason after all LMAO
Hilarious as usual, but I haven't found any groundbreaking developments in this series yet. So far, the story revolves around Saitama's martial arts tournament, where he disguises himself as Charanko, and the ongoing battles between monsters and heroes outside the tournament.
Despite this, I'm still interested in following the series.
WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR VOLUME 10 OF THIS SERIES! IF YOU HAVEN’T READ VOLUME 10 DON’T READ THIS! IF YOU HAVE READ VOLUME 10 OR DON’T CARE YOU’RE SAFE READING THIS!
What’s it about? It’s the same arc that’s been going. Piles of monsters attack and Saitama is at a fighting contest, competing in disguise.
Pros: The art is fantastic and seems to be evolving. This volume does a particularly great job at mixing many different styles of art and it’s blending well here. The characters are very interesting. Saitama is still a great satiric superhero. Genos is particularly bad-ass in this volume and it is AWESOME! Blizzard is probably the most interesting non-Saitama character in the series, I think she’s about to get more aggressive and more powerful (which should be awesome). Super S (a villain introduced in the previous volume) is pretty cool, at first I was worried that she was just gonna be fan service because of her... umm... outfit... Yeah, I know she dresses like if Slipknot was a Dynamite comics series but if you can get passed that she’s a great, powerful villain with a twisted personality. It’s obvious she’s intended to be a mix of intimidating and sexy and with that being said mission accomplished. Another great character to talk about is Watchdog Man, he brutally slays monsters while wearing a hilarious dog costume, what’s not to like? The action scenes are almost non-stop and very exciting. The humor in this is fantastic! Many laugh out loud moments throughout. This book is surprisingly suspenseful.
Cons: The story is unfortunately weak. We’ve been going through this arc of massive invasion of monsters plus Saitama at the fighting contest for 3 volumes and I’m kinda bored of it at this point. In all fairness I kinda expect the whole series to involve fighting monsters which while not bad I might begin to get bored with it soon, sorta like how I still enjoy Supernatural but ain’t a huge fan anymore because it’s always the same story in an ongoing series. The fighting competition was kinda cheesy in the first place so yeah, hopefully that wraps up soon. The main story ends at a bad ending spot. While there’s only one bonus manga chapter and it is a very funny one I gotta say it... STOP PUTTING BONUS MANGA CHAPTERS DURING A MAJOR ARC! It’s interrupting the story and while it is at the end of the book people who overthink things (like myself) are sitting there laughing at the jokes but also thinking “when does this take place in the story?”. I think it would’ve worked out better if they just put these stories in a funny, even if sorta filler volume after this arc.
Overall: I really enjoyed this for the wonderful artwork, the brilliant humor and the interesting characters, this is still a flawed book with a story that’s getting old. One Punch Man is a good series that I would recommend to people who are looking for funny manga but I am so ready for this story arc to be over. Also gotta add this: One Punch Man started as a great satire on superhero comics, especially their all too frequent predictability, repetitiveness and at times goofiness (I say this as a fan of superheroes) but while still not predictable itself and at a goofy level that’s not too much and comedic I hope it doesn’t end up going into that repetitive category itself.
So glad to see a return to form with this volume. The introduction to the powers of some of the S-class heroes that were teased way earlier in the series was probably the best part here.
It was also nice that we sort of got a fast-forward regarding the martial arts competition so that we finally have everything set up for the big fights.
The tease of the new big bad villain is also awesome. Nothing like an evil organization to balance it all with the heroes' organization. Things can only get better. Just like the artwork.
The buildup on this one is delicious. Garo is picking fights with every hero even when he's hurt, so by some strange alchemy, this antagonist has become the underdog. :)
Alternatively, the tournament going on at the same time has all the hallmarks of Dragonball Z, including a certain happy-go-lucky fighter that just wants to see other's strength. Ah, the things we do to kill our boredom. :) That fight, in particular, was freaking awesome.
Monsters, so so many monsters. And even more fights!
I finally had the chance to buy this volume, I am so behind on this series and I should get the rest of the volumes I am missing soon. I need to know how this continues. And I am normally not a gal who likes shounen that much (or at least these days), but this series? I can't resist it.
This time we continue with the martial arts tournament, but we also have a monster flood. I really liked reading about both of these situations, especially as we also see other heroes/heroines and also new villains. And yes, I was at first a bit worried how the martial arts tournament and the new monster threat would work out, would it distract us from one or the other? And I can honestly say, no. It doesn't. If anything it made everything more exciting.
I did think it was hilarious that the female villains all wear sexy clothes (one even wore bondage/S&M clothes). Sure, I am happy to see some sexiness, but it is funny that it is generally the girls.
The martial art tournament was a bit less of tournament and more how fast can one knock another guy out of the ring kind of contest. These guys are all so overpowered. I even felt sorry for the one who touched Saitama's hair. But the contests did take a bit longer as the guys did like the talk (hot dang, they loved to talk).
Genos was just kick-ass in this one. I loved what he did for Saitama, and that he was working hard to get back to his master's fight in time. Aww!
The ending had me in stitches. King was just so awesome, and I loved how Saitama didn't let anyone screw with him.
The art was fabulous again, another reason why I read this series. Because the action scenes are so intense, and there are tons of other scenes that are beautifully done. Of course, as we could see in this volume, he can also go back to that hilarious dumbed-down stuff. :P
All in all, I need the next volume as I want to know how this monster threat thing continues.
Awesome read as usual. The Super Fight story is going really well so far. Very fun to read. The story building up toward when the super fight ends and saitama can fight the monsters ransacking the city outside is just a blast. We would probably get there in the next two volumes. Hopefully. :)
Cool, a little more focus on fewer battles and characters. I guess they wanted to slow things down for the fight against the skimpy leather outfit bondage whip lady vs dudes and then the sisters. Despite that this volume was still interesting.
We had a few rounds of the tournament, which was fun and we got a fantastic character , and then focus turned to Genos kicking ass and then off-page getting his ass kicked . This followed page-time for other heroes especially Tornado and Kid Genius and Watchdog . And ofcourse the cliffhanger has an salivating fight in store for us
Please do not judge me for not reading this in order. I am a terrible bookworm for doing this I know and I do not approve of this decision but yet I'm still doing it. I'm reading them I find them in my local library. I should just read it in order and I hope to one day.
I literally just watched this episode not that long ago so it was perfect timing to read this. I just absolutely love the humor in One Punch Man. This was so fun to read and I can wait to read the next.
As much as enjoy One Punch Man, and I thought this volume was a lot of fun, the overall plot is getting to be too typical for my tastes. It’s starting to feel way too much like Naruto, which I had a hard time getting through because of how juvenile it was. I also tend to think that tournaments in anime/manga are just easy tools to pad out the length so the writer can work on bigger plots while continuing the current story with little effort.
But this volume did have its moments where I finally laughed. Watchdog Man, Saitama’s defeat of Bankuzu, and the Bonus Manga with King stand out. But they’ve put Garo on the back burner to focus on this tournament that started last volume. And that just completely bores me. Such wasted potential.
I’ll read volume 13 in January when it releases but my time with One Punch Man may be coming to an end.
The tournament and the monster invasion in the cities, both were presented superbly...
I laughed more than often looking at Saitama's face... this guy is dope! I mean, he's more afraid and protective of his identity, and ridiculously careless about the match! ONE and Yusuke have done one heck of a work here...
And the final battle, though as usual one-sided, was graphically exhilarating; Yusuke Murata just rocks...
I really thought the fight is gonna be somewhat more competitive than usual, anyone would get that feeling, but...
Those aside, Suiryu is strong, specially with his legs, although I didn't like his perspectives...
Starts off from the martial arts tournament, ends with Watchdog man maybe taking a punch. Saitama as always is laid back and ending things with a basic punch, otherwise spending most of the volume in the toilet or trying to tie his belt. Genos, faithful as ever is on a speed kill mission to get back to the fights. The Pig god eating was a wtf moment. Orochi getting ready for takeover. The little extra was fun. King is such a Hercule character.

This series is still going strong but along the way you have these bridged storylines that only serve the next book. One Punch is at a tournament while the rest of the city is at war. I'm 2 books from up to date with the series so this has been a long catchup. I hope the series returns to form for the next book and reveals One Punch to the world.
The plot of the Supervillains Association thickens in this volume, but One Punch Man has yet to get his chance to fight the supervillains/monsters (damn those supervillains are getting uglier than before)! Will look forward for the next volume.
man. too much craziness with this one. one punch even the writer name is one. who ever read this get a deadly punch. not not. not even many punch just simple effortless punch. the art OMG. its you reading Vegabond future version. 😬
"Are there many people who are stronger than professional heroes? There must be. not everyone who excels in combat uses that ability in life."
Saitama brings his One-Punch skills to another round of the martial arts competition. Meanwhile, Genos has to take on all the monsters overtaking City C.
