Can someone please explain the super high rating on this book? I have no real issue with instalove, as it were, but man this story of over the top in every way possible. The conflicts within were so contrived that I couldn't help but roll my eyes through most of the story. Listen, I get it, who doesn't love a bearded and tattooed baseball player, but I also love an engaging story to go along with a hot body. I hate that I am cynical enough to think that the reason for the high rating on this story is due to the fact that the heroine is a big girl, as we are constantly reminded throughout the story. Have we now come to a point where any story with a plus size heroine is lauded as amazing just for the sheer fact that the character in question is not a size 2? I love plus size heroines and will always give praise where praise is due, this story had so much potential and I think that is what gets me the most, instead of a nice slow build with the Hancock and Sway, that could have been fraught with tension and conflict, due to both their positions on the team, but instead they are off like a rocket, no pun intended, and so stranger and more random conflicts have to be thrown in to move the story along. I think it is okay to demand that stories are cohesive enough to stand on their own and that the character within the story is not defined by the body type they are. Would I love to see more plus size heroines, of course, but I am not willing to give up on a story for that and I will continue to demand as such, and I also refuse to praise a book that fails on that score, even if the heroine is a big girl.
