Everyone who’s played the game has heard those words a time or two. But Hancock has heard them his entire life from his parents. His family has lived and breathed baseball even before he started little league.
Hancock “Parts” Peters has a name that inspires grins across many faces, but the moment those faces get their first look at him, those grins slide away.
Hancock is gruff, filterless, and doesn’t give a crap who he offends. He is the only man in baseball who doesn’t care if he gets an endorsement or not. He’s there to play the game. He’s there to win. He’s there because baseball is his life. People think he’s a jerk.
And maybe he is. But if that’s how he has to come off to get people to leave him the hell alone so he can play in peace, so be it. The less people he has to worry about offending, the better.

Don’t let the fear of striking out hold you back.
Sway Coffman didn’t mean to rock the boat. She was just there to do her job. Sure, she was a woman in a man’s world. Yes, she beat out several of those men to get the job as head athletic trainer for the professional baseball team, The Texas Lumberjacks. And yeah, she now got hate mail from those men.
But she’s good at her job, and she earned the position.
What she is not good at, however, is talking to men.
Men seem to see her curvy hips, large breasts and thick thighs and automatically think she is incompetent. Because surely a fat girl couldn’t get the job treating some of the most fit and athletic men in the world, right?
Wrong.
This fat girl got the job, and she is proud of it.
What else did she get?
The attention of the sexiest bearded man she’d ever had the pleasure of laying eyes on. It was enough to bring to her down to her knees…in front of that man, the hot and grumpy baseball player, Hancock Peters.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.

I remember when I used to run and preordered this author's books because I couldn't wait to read them.. But now I just buy the books until the day they're released and lately I haven't even been excited to read her books.
I don't know what happened with this one. I just don't know.
Could it be the fact that I got tired of the heroine mentioning how "fat" she was? Or her big "tits"? Even in the epilogue..
Could it be the fact that she had little to no experience?
Could it be that he was the experienced one?
Like I said I just don't know what happened with this one honestly.
It's been a while since I've read a LLV and I absolutely adored this! Professional baseball player and the head AT falling for each other - yes please!

Hancock "Parts" Peters is a man known for his reputation being gruff, playing ball, and telling it as it is. Sway Coffman knows she beat out others for her job as athletic Trainer for the Texas Lumberjacks baseball team, but she is the best in her field and is not letting anyone stand in her way. When she meets Hancock for the first time, she is a bit awe struck as she has had a crush on him she can remember.
Hancock wants Sway and has a alpha caveman way of wooing Sway. Sway is not sure what is going on with Hancock but she knows she wants him. Together they are in their own world will Sway get her happily ever after with the Hancock?
Delightful. Hancock is a larger than life personality who sets his sights on Sway. I thought the characters were quirky and was chuckling throughout the book. I cannot wait for what is next in this fantastic new series.
With a sexy alpha baseball player, a feisty compassionate heroine, humor, major chemistry and just enough drama, Lani Lynn Vale hits an out of the park grand slam with Pitch Perfect!
I’m addicted to Lani Lynn Vale’s MC series, all of them and I love her I Like Big Dragons series and she has once again 100% captivated me with Pitch Please, the first book in her new There’s No Crying in Baseball series.
Parks and Sway are all I could ask for in a book couple. Sway is the Head Athletic Trainer for The Texas Lumberjacks baseball team. She’s smart, compassionate, confident, holds her own with a bunch of smack talking hot alphas and has had a secret crush one of the stars of the team, Hancock “Parts” Peters, the tough on the field, brusque, ill-mannered, sexy catcher of the team. Parts sees Sway and is instantly attracted to her voluptuous body and vibrant personality. Sway cannot resist the sexy, tattooed, bearded beast of a man. The chemistry between Sway and Parks jumps off the pages, the pace of the sexy scenes is perfect for their story. I absolutely love the banter between Sway and Parks, not to mention all the interactions between them and the secondary characters who I cannot wait to read more about. There is some drama in Pitch Please but just enough to not make this an angst filled book.
I’ve raved about every book Ms. Vale has put out and if you haven’t tried her books yet I highly recommend starting out with Pitch Please!
Is it just me or does this book and MCs seem extremely childish with very juvenile writing? The writing felt very detached and choppy to me which was very very hard to connect to. May be it’s just me.
Star Ratings: Heroine (Sway): 20s?? Hero (Hancock): 32yrs old Plot: 3/5 Grovel: none Cheating: none HEA: yes with kids Triggers: none
Average score: 3.5/5
Best Line: “Manliness isn’t seasonal, Sway.”
Worst Line: “I bit my lip and turned my head away, unable to look at that thick, dark hair and not orgasm.”
Personal Review: A solid sports romance between a gruff baseball player and a confident but sensitive athletic trainer.
Random Ramblings: •Not a big fan of the names •Sinclair was a little over the top •Rainie seems like a spoilt brat •Gram was hilarious •Wow, I never thought Baseball was an aggressive game •Seriously??? Why would you name you kid Hannibal?? •I am with you about the bras •It felt like there were chunks of the story missing
Can someone please explain the super high rating on this book? I have no real issue with instalove, as it were, but man this story of over the top in every way possible. The conflicts within were so contrived that I couldn't help but roll my eyes through most of the story. Listen, I get it, who doesn't love a bearded and tattooed baseball player, but I also love an engaging story to go along with a hot body. I hate that I am cynical enough to think that the reason for the high rating on this story is due to the fact that the heroine is a big girl, as we are constantly reminded throughout the story. Have we now come to a point where any story with a plus size heroine is lauded as amazing just for the sheer fact that the character in question is not a size 2? I love plus size heroines and will always give praise where praise is due, this story had so much potential and I think that is what gets me the most, instead of a nice slow build with the Hancock and Sway, that could have been fraught with tension and conflict, due to both their positions on the team, but instead they are off like a rocket, no pun intended, and so stranger and more random conflicts have to be thrown in to move the story along. I think it is okay to demand that stories are cohesive enough to stand on their own and that the character within the story is not defined by the body type they are. Would I love to see more plus size heroines, of course, but I am not willing to give up on a story for that and I will continue to demand as such, and I also refuse to praise a book that fails on that score, even if the heroine is a big girl.
this was a fun audiobook but this book reads like it’s from 2012 so be forewarned - giving very much extended jessa kane novella energy.
this is a baseball romance where he’s the grumpy star player and she’s the athletic trainer. he’s instantly obsessed with her and he’d secretly been her favorite player all along.
insta-love/lust makes for a fun, silly audiobook. he was very caveman-like in his obsession with her which was cute and hot. she’s also a plus-sized heroine and again, reading like it’s 2012, the body positivity was not really all that positive but he was super protective of her which i liked.
I had high hopes because I love sports romance, and I love this author she hits it out of the park with this one. I love the characters the world all of it. It was a perfect balance of what I love about LLV and sports.
Not big dramalama like I like it was just a great story of finding love in an unlikely of places. Well at least for these two.
Loved the narration as always these 2 are LLV books for me.
THIS WAS FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC!!! THIS IS WHAT I WANT IN MY ROMANCES!!! First, I love baseball in romance books, I don't know why but something about that game is just so sexy and I don't know if I'll feel the same about other sports yet. Second, Hancock is just a great character. He's written as this bearded manly man with lots of tattoos but is a total softy with it comes to Sway, his woman. I just adored this story, you have to get to about 20% in for it to really grow on you, before that I thought it needed a little fleshing out on setting and what not, but the story really catches it's footing around that 20%. Also, Sway is chubby and I just LOVE when the female lead is chubby. I feel like I can relate better lol Anyway, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a good steamy read.
I know I'm gonna take a little heat for my next statement (yes I'm looking at you Renee, ha!) but this is my very first Lani book and you can bet your sweet ass it won't be my last. Sexy. Sweet. Fun. Lighter. Hot guys in baseball pants! Not sure it could get any better than that but Lani's words... mesmerizing.
Pitch Please was the perfect standalone romance to get me addicted to this author. From the very first page, I was hooked and I couldn't put this book down. Sway and Hancock sucked me into their world and before I knew it hours had passed yet I was still in their fog of their lives.
Baseball is about to get a lot more interesting....
She's his biggest fan and the newest member of his baseball team. He's one of the hottest players out with a mouth made of sin and a beard that makes you ache.
She's the total package that's curvy, sassy, feisty, loyal, and quirky. He's one of the most eligible bachelors on the field that's hot-headed, all man, witty, sarcastic, and undeniably gorgeous.
He wants her. She wants him. And rules are rules until they get broken. Love isn't always easy and sometimes it's irresistible but it's so worth it. Throw in some hiccups and a twist or two along the way.... and you have yourself a stellar romance and one that will totally make my top reads list for this year.
Sway and Hancock were life! I loved these two... hard and the great cast that surrounded them. They had incredible chemistry, undeniable sparks, fun banter, crazy families, and the heat between them was smoking hot!
If you haven't read Lani or this book yet then run run run to get this book! And the wait for the next in this series may kill me....
LLV provides us with another pointless book. I quit at 54% because it’s nothing that I haven’t already read in the 50 other LLV books.
Sway (athletic trainer) works for the same BB team that Hancock (bb player) plays for. The main focus of this book seems to be about her being fat, having tits so gigantic that everyone talks about them, and baseball superstitions. 🙄
I promise you at the 54% mark I had heard about her being fat no less that 54 times. Random people just commenting on how fat she is. His mom talking about how much cleavage she has. I’m super fat. Nobody just goes around just yelling fat slurs. It’s ridiculous.
Also, no surprise. He has a stupid ass beard. All of LLV’s men do. The woman has no f*cking imagination at all.
Other crap that pissed me off.
Serial Killer. Pretty much every FMC thinks that the MMC could be a serial killer. It’s so weird. In this one, Hancock is famous, plays on the same team her uncle coaches, she knows him, he knows her brother, etc. Yet when they’re driving to his house she thinks, “what if he’s a serial killer? What do I really know about him?” OK dumb ass. It’s not like you picked him up on the side of the road.
Her ex shows up. She hasn’t spoken to him in over a year. He says, “I want to ask you to a company picnic.” Her reply is, “I’m busy.” That doesn’t make sense. She should be responding with something like why the f*ck would I go out with you? We’re broken up. I haven’t talked to you in a year. Get off my f*cking porch. Sheesh.
So Hancock is lying in a hospital bed and she’s sitting next to him. This is her POV.
“Can you turn that on?” he pointed to the TV. Not needing to be asked, I grabbed the remote and turned the tv on.
HE LITERALLY JUST ASKED YOU TO TURN IT ON.
Anyway, I might go back and finish if I get bored. Right now I’m moving on.
4 1/2 stars, This was a fun story that I really liked. I seem to like everything (so far) from this author. And though this isn't the Dixie Wardens and Dixie Warder Rejects which so far are my favorites this was still ash asking book and I can't wait to see who gets the next book. To be very fair sports romances aren't my favorite type of book so for Lani Lynn Vale to make me like this book so much and excited from the books to come in this series really says something. I know who I hope book two is about(fingers crossed) but there are several characters I would be happy with. The hero is crazy possessive and sets out to make the heroine his the second he lays eyes on her. The heroine is smart and sweet and I really liked her character. I'm really happy I read this one and know I will be for the ones to come.
Omg this book was amazing! I laughed, I swooned, I enjoyed it immensely!! I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down! Sway and Hancock were awesome together and their banter was hilarious. He was so sweet and protective and I just loved him. I also loved how Sway was no pushover and gave just as good as she got. I'm seriously looking forward to more of this new series!
I loved Hancock and Sway. I thoroughly enjoyed how much he adored her from the very first page and even when he was dressed and acting out, it was only a very short time before he apologised. I liked that Sway wasn't your typical size zero heroine, and although she sometimes let her weight get to her, the majority of the time she owned it and worked it. Another great LLV story.
There wasn’t a whole lot to the beginning of their relationship. It just really jumped right into it. I still enjoyed the story though. I’m looking forward to more baseball books by LLV.
I’ve read everything Lani Lynn Vale has written, and I absolutely love her spin on everyday heroes and the woman who capture their hearts. She’s written about bikers, paramedics, firemen and cops, and I’ve loved them all. Pitch Please is Vale's first at-bat in the sports romance trope, and she knocked it right out of the park! The first story in her new series, There's No Crying in Baseball, had me hooked and eager for more.
I loved Parts and Sway! Grumpy and gruff professional baseball catcher Hancock “Parts” Peters is known as a bit of a hothead, but he actually turned out to be one of the swooniest heroes Vale has ever written. Shy but sweet athletic trainer Sway Coffman was funny and curvy and caught his eye from the moment he laid them on her. Right from the start, this story drew me in and held all of my attention—I positively devoured it and didn’t want to put it down. Vale’s sense of humor is always present in all of her novels, and it was front and center in Pitch Please. The back-and-forth banter between Parts and Sway was on point and, along with the combustible chemistry between them, made this a story I could not read fast enough.
I fell in love with these characters, and Vale has concocted yet another fictional world—with a host of interesting side characters whose stories I am dying to for—that I cannot wait to visit again. Vale has penned romcom magic in her first go at a sports romance, and she’s definitely started something special in the There’s No Crying in Baseball series. Pitch Please by Lani Lynn Vale gets five smooches from me! ~ Danielle Palumbo
Oh my lord! Is it possible to fall in love with a fictional character? If not then get out the record books because Lani Lynn Vale is about to go down in history!
One name says it all....
Hancock “Parts” Peters!!!!
This man is the epitome of what every book boyfriend should be like. Hancock literally had me swooning! This man, oh lord this man. He is a badass catcher with a very short fuse. He doesn't put up with men degrading women. He lets his alpha side shine bright on the field and off the field. Not to mention he has a tattoos and a soft side! this man is the whole package!
Sway has a curvaceous body and a feisty attitude to match! She is also the Head Athletic Trainer for the Texas Lumberjacks. That ultimately means she has no time for the dating world and after a bad experience with her ex, honestly who could blame her for even wanting to try. That is until Sway has a run in with Hancock, setting into motion a whole new set of superstitions!
I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. It isn't your typical 'bombshell babe and athlete fall in love' type sports romance I am used to. Not to mention Hancock loves his women with curves! This brought a whole new dynamic to the sports romance world, One that I love and can't wait to read more from.
I loved the 'superstition' aspect of this novel. This brought a fun new side to the baseball romance genre!
I cannot wait to see what journey this series will lead with next!
When I re-read a book go to my review and laugh my ass off at how idiotic I sound sometimes. Am I going to edit it though? Nah. Still feeling the brilliance of this book and everything that is Sway&Hancock. 18/02/18
We all know I'm a biased bitch when it come to this author right?. So it's all good if I just sit back in my gloat bubble smirking my tits off because I just knew this book was going to be as good as the rest.
I have zero issues pre ordering every available book I can from this author because again I know it's going to rock my socks off. She gives me everything I want in a book from hilarious crying in laughter moments to heart wrenching emotional moments. I laugh, cry .. get pissed and shout. I drink up the pages like the last drop of water in a drought and have the cheek to want more. Not because the book needs it but because she's just that good to me.
Sway and Hancock did not disappoint. They had me rocking. Those hotel scenes cracked me up! I mean not just once but twice? Lani you are a genius and I wanna know who he was. Hancock in all his alpha brooding sexy deliciousness definitely ticked all me boxes. Sway is what I love in a heroine. feisty, independent and strong with a side of sweet. They fit perfectly, total match made in my fictional heaven. The storyline was seamlessly written as per usual with a boat load of emotions, crazy side characters and some smoking hot lovings just to satisfy our perverse hearts away.
Yes lady! You did that. I can't wait for the next one and this new rollercoaster full of new peeps. All about the Lani sports romcom train...
And just FYI I definitely think you should consider a bdsm series to add to your list of book adventures.. cause I'm pretty sure you'd slay that with your alphas and feisty heroines.(me casually sat here dreaming of this non existent series (yet😏) with hopefulness). I want that.
Great start to a new series! This book had it all! An amazing alpha dirty talking hero and a strong feisty heroine that comes off sweet and shy, but don’t let her fool you. Sway and Parts banter was awesome and a great source of entertainment. This book was funny, it was sweet, the characters had chemistry that was scorching! It was so captivating I couldn’t put it down.
Hancock “Parts” Peters is a catcher for his professional baseball team and is known as short tempered, tattooed and one of the sexiest players in MLB! He doesn’t put up with anyone’s crap and he really doesn’t put up with anyone disrespecting women. He is so swoon worthy! I loved his character!
Sway is the head athletic trainer for Parts team. It is a job that she was very qualified for and she was good at her job. She was harassed because of her curvy body and not taken seriously by a few people. She was able to hold her own and with Parts on her side, she could do anything.
I don’t want to give anything away as I want you to experience this terrific story for yourself. I absolutely loved the characters, storyline, humor and all the hot scenes between Parts and Sway. If you love sports romance, pick up this book! I promise you won’t regret it!

Generally not a fan of sports romance aside from Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ books. Having said that, I really enjoyed this book.
Hancock (H) was so hot in the description.. a grumpy bad boy who has the hots for the head athletic trainer, Sway (h). I really like that he doesn’t see Sway as fat, but rather when he looks at her, he sees his dream girl. Hancock defends Sway from others who call her fat.
Sway is also a good heroine. She isn’t TSTL and she’s a good match for Hancock.
There’s no cheating and no mention of ow. Sway’s ex is annoying but there’s no real drama or danger there.
The relationship took time to build up and they waited for a bit before having sex. Even before having sex, Hancock already knew that he has fallen in love with Sway.
The dialogue is charming and this is a nice romantic read.
CR. The plot felt too busy. This could've been interesting.
I started off liking this couple, Hancock + Sway. But the story had too much: sex, repetition, fat-shaming of the heroine (who wasn't fat) but not by the hero & the hero needed to rescue his special-ops twin brother. And Sway's assistant undermined her etc.
Silly me, I thought this was about love + baseball. Can we as mostly female readers of romantic fiction appreciate women of all sizes, shapes and colors? Can romance authors then just lightly touch on size, etc. w/o the h's self-esteem crumbling over insensitive comments made by superficial minor characters? This issue was a big distraction away from the MCs, who should've been the focus of the book.
First impression was that this was a pretty basic book but this was really difficult to read and I don't know if it was me or not. The writing style was hard to follow and there didn't seem to be any structure at all. Nothing really happens, there's just no way I could follow the "story". It was light and safe but I couldn't properly tell you what I read because I ended up skimming so much.
I'll just start out this review by saying HOME RUN!!!
Sway Coffman is a woman who sees herself as less than perfect, holding a job in what is usually a mans world of baseball as head athletic trainer of a MLB team where egos and attitudes fight for top billing.
Hancock “Parts” Peters is the sexy, consumed by superstitions, current superstar of MLB who also happens to think his teams new athletic trainer is the hottest woman he's ever seen.
Sway has considered herself Parts biggest fan since he first entered his baseball career and now that she has the opportunity to get her hands all over him... in a strictly professional manner of course!... she's beyond feeling like she just hit a grand slam! But like life, and the general rule of romance books, there has to be that person(s) who wants to rain on the game.....
Okay, I'll be honest for a minute. After reading so many of Lani's books that involved the Kilgore FD, SWAT, and MC, I was wondering if starting a whole new line of characters would work for me. But let me just say she executed it perfectly. This book was funny. It had drama, but not over the top or cheezy. The chemistry between the two was great. And the other characters we met in between the pages were really likable also. I'm really anticipating her next release of this series!!! I give it 5 stars.
I was giving this book as an ARC for an honest review.
This story changed trajectories so fast it made my head spin. That coupled with the abrasive cut offs on thoughts, scenes, and ideas made my head hurt. Not to mention the amount of missing plot holes in this was alarming.... that's being said, all in all I enjoyed this to a degree. Really really saved this for me, is it's humor. That reason alone is why it's getting the ranking it is. If it didn't have that I would be a sold 2 maybe 1 star.
Seriously though. There are so many plot holes and Unanswered questions in this.
But I really loved the two characters and their love for each other. Low drama too.
Baseball players have a lot of superstitions, like socks that never get washed, a certain routine that they follow, or even what they eat and drink before and after the game. Hancock was all about superstitions, so when the new athletic trainer was sitting in his seat, he had no issues telling her to move. Sway is the new AT for the team, and she has worked hard to get where she was, she didn't have time for a ball player... even if it was Hancock. But nothing will stop Hancock once he wants something, and he wants Sway, even if its against the rules!
Lani Lynn Vale just proved that she can write ANYTHING! Branching out a bit with a sports romance, she still gives us an alpha male, and the right amount of action. Sway and Hancock were HOT! I loved everything about this story. With a bit of drama, some baseball, and some steamy sexy scenes; LLV hit it out the park. 5 stars all the way!
