Life. Sometime it’s easy – smooth and happy and putting a smile on your face. Justice stroked a calloused thumb over Garrett’s cheek. “You make me wish I was a better man, butterscotch.” Garrett closed his eyes and leaned into Justice’s hand, “How could you be? You’re already perfect in my eyes.”
Sometimes it’s hard – rough and angry and makes the tears fall. “You’re going to get through this babe,” he whispered into JD’s hair. “How do you know?” Brent squeezed his eyes shut as pain lanced through his heart at those words, “Because,” he whispered as he pressed his lips to JD’s neck, “because I’m going to be here. I’m going to hold you when you can’t stand on your own. I’m going to fight for you when your demons become too strong. I’m going to love you when only darkness fills your heart. And I’m going to keep you here, safe, when the storm inside of you is trying to sweep you away.”
And sometimes it’s brutal - vicious and cruel and feeling like it’s trying to knock you on your ass. “Yeah, I know. Forgiveness is a heady thing, Cole. Even if it can’t bring two people together it can still set you free.” These men have been through it, they’ve experienced all life has to offer…..and then some. They go on, they pick themselves up, dust themselves off and carry on – even if their hearts are empty. They all know that this is the hand that fate has dealt them – to be alone for the rest of their lives – and they’ve accepted that. But what if they’re wrong? What if that bitch, fate, has one more surprise up her sleeve? What if love is what’s waiting for them after they fall? What if life has one more surprise for them……a happily ever after..... Join the strong, yet vulnerable men of Black Ops Heroes – both the familiar characters you love and new ones - as they continue on this incredible journey of discovery, some heartache and a whole heaping of love. This book is 97,732 words long and approximately 446 pages. This is an adult M/M romance with male/male sex – a lot of it. It mentions PTSD, has light BDSM and mentions of past and current sexual abuse and trauma. It may contain triggers for some. This is a standalone but it is recommended that you read all books in the series to be familiar with the characters backgrounds. It has an HEA (happily ever after) for the main characters in this book but also introduces new characters that will be further explored in future books that some may consider that a cliffhanger.
Kendel Duncan is the pen name for Author Dara Nelson. Why did I choose a pen name? Simple – different genres. I started out writing M/F paranormal romance books, vampires and such. And while I still do love a good vampire tale – it’s the M/F part that guided me to separate my writing. My characters changed. They let me know that my heart, my love, my joy was in writing M/M fiction so that is where I am firmly ensconced and where I plan to stay. So a little about the lady behind the curtain: After growing up in Northern California, I now call the Seattle-Tacoma area of the beautiful Pacific Northwest my home. I am passionate about writing, about photography, about my family, my husband, my kids, about nature....basically I’m passionate about everything in my life - and that shows through in my romance/erotica/suspense novels. When I am not writing, you can usually find me hiking somewhere around Mt. Rainier or visiting with the many animals on my farm. First and foremost, I am a writer. It's not what I do, it's what I am. It's my lifeblood, it's my heart, it is what makes my soul sing. It is from that passion that I choose to give back, that I reach out to other authors to offer tips, suggestions, help and guidance. And also to the incredible LGBTQ community that I now firmly hold in my embrace. Because we all have a voice....and it deserves to be heard.
I am writing a review encompassing the whole series because I just finished them all. This review is difficult to write because I have mixed feelings. I liked the beginning of the series. The first book is m/f with several m/m situations. I really liked most of the characters in these books. I cared about their stories and wanted to see them happy. That being said.... they are all damaged. Every single one. They have all had really horrible things happen to them. Drake Malone starts the first book. Him and a few of his best friends take down a corrupt CIA official high up on the food chain. He decides to start his own spec ops team to take down dirty cops, feds, etc. However, where is his oversight? They create this team of alpha badasses from multiple agencies, however, there are never any cases. There are a couple mentioned, but they rarely do any work. If you are not a fan of the instalove trope beware and do not read this series. I'm talking couples are in love after one meeting. The only action that takes place is drama from someone's past. Also, there is a lot of sex, I mean like every other page. Another thing that bothered me is that the 2 women in the story are rarely mentioned. Amelia is Drake's wife and they meet in the first book. However, she is rarely involved in the rest of the series. Don't get me started on the triad from the 2nd book. Raine is mentioned like 3 times throughout 7 books. It's obvious to me the author prefers m/m pairings, so why did she even bother with m/f? The books feature multiple couple storylines and each book leaves a teaser for another couple in the making. It gets a little confusing because you meet like 20 guys over the course of the series. Also, it starts into more of a bdsm aspect later in the series. I wasn't expecting that. TBH, I am really tired of bdsm storylines. I have worked in a bookstore for the last 15 years, and after FSOG I could live without it forever. I rarely choose one to read. Every time Drake recruits a new member, they always know who he is?! He's almost famous, how spec ops is that? Also, every male in this book has an anaconda dick. They constantly talk about how big so and so's dick is. I enjoyed the last 2 books the best because there was actually action other than sex, and some important emotional plot twists. Would I reread this series again? No. Will I continue reading it? If it's on KU. I would only buy them if it's $.99. Sorry this review is long. I tried to write it without spoilers because it seems like every review I write has them. Brent was my fave character.
I love all these men! All the stories are so interwoven with each other so seamlessly and beautifully it will make you cry and laugh (when Brent says anything!) You have no choice but to give into your emotions. Hope it doesn't take long for the next book because the little sneak peek we got is just not enough!!!!
This is a fantastic series. Cole and Kelly turned out to be another tough but exciting storyline. With the Black Ops cast of characters, it's always an adventure. Tiny and Blake are going to be a great couple to see more of. I think these gentle, bad to the bone giants, will see lots of action in the future. The other new characters and teasers were ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! You could read any of these books as a stand-alone but this series is so wonderful, it would be a shame if you even missed a minute. I am pumped and ready for book #9. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS INCREDIBLE SERIES!!!!!
