"What we cherish most (even if we don't consciously know about it) is being able to exercise our own judgement and make our own decisions". This perhaps is the essence of the book. The author is absolutely right that if we can "avoid dwelling on any repetitive negative thoughts", we can live a happy life. And the most important suggestion is indeed worthy of note: "If you can pair a difficult or unpleasant with positive feelings, over time the task will actually become enjoyable". How true.
An excellent well-written source to become a better you. Every chapter was well though out and applied directly to my life, spelling out my bad habits and laying a path for me to improve. Everyone should read this. Period. I started improving on my self-discipline by the 30% Mark and now I feel ready and prepared to hit my goals.
I have to say one of the best books I have read about self-discipline and the chapter that got me was the one about eliminating the word try. The narrator even said do or do not there is no try. However, he never mentioned the Star Wars reference and just left it as is which I thought was powerful enough. It is true and I have learned that using the word try can be a death sentence for people. I had my own battles in my life with my knee and if I had listened to the advice of people warning me about high impact on my knee I would not have had success in my fitness journey. By the way, my surgeon did not give me that advice but other people which I never listened to and my surgeon told me just keep lifting and I should be fine and I can actually run up hills now so never listen to those people who playa hate on you and eliminate the word try. This is a good book that goes into that and other types of meditation options and things to be aware of like stress and how to manage things.
This book has been extremely helpful to me in developing more self discipline; even before I was halfway through I was applying many of the suggestions and getting positive results. I enjoyed that it wasn’t a “rah-rah” hyped up presentation, but just sound, logical thought processes to build my self discipline. I will definitely be reading more of Ian Tuhovsky’s books, and reviewing this one from time to time.
This book actually helped fix my routine. The most important thing that this author highlighted is that we keep seeking instant gratification with our efforts which could be the biggest hindrance to our ultimate success and discipline. Certainly pointed me towards a better and efficient way of life.
This book summarizes several techniques for being self-disciplined in order to get what you want in life. Sometimes is a little bit shallow in some topics. But in general I ENJOYED the book
Very good book about self-discipline, ir has a realistic aproach and backs it up with some theories and research results of what it predicts, plus it is written in a direct manner and goes to the point about the themes is talking about.
Many books are available on the topic of self-discipline and this is one of the better ones. Logically laid out, with very good practical examples. I definitely recommend!
29/n Loved this spiffy book. Lot of techniques from the western and eastern civilizations. Very conducive to doped reading and highlights that you can retain. Kindle Unlimited. Recommended.
