From USA Today bestselling author Anne Marie Stoddard comes a fabulously fashionable mystery in paradise...
After a very painful—and very public—divorce from her cheating football star husband, Kaley Kalua just wants some peace and privacy. Cramming only the essentials (clothes, shoes, and makeup) into her Prada duffel bag, Kaley returns to her hometown of Aloha Lagoon to manage her Aunt Rikki’s clothing shop, the Happy Hula Dress Boutique. A new job, new friends, and a change of scenery are just what she needs to turn her life around. It doesn’t hurt that Kaley’s handsome childhood best friend, Noa Kahele, has also moved back to the small resort town.
Unfortunately, life on the island isn’t quite the peaceful paradise that Kaley was expecting. Not everyone is thrilled about her return—especially Louana, Happy Hula’s assistant manager, who thinks that she deserves Kaley’s new job. And when the woman is found strangled by a bikini top from the boutique, the police make it clear that Aunt Rikki is their main suspect. But Kaley is determined to prove her aunt’s innocence! Between dodging a nosy local reporter and sparring with her high school nemesis, Kaley compiles her own list of suspects. In the process, she also attracts the attention of a dangerous killer. If Kaley isn’t careful, she could wind up trading her colorful wardrobe for funeral black…

Another fun visit to Aloha Lagoon. I was about half a step ahead of the MC in figuring out the who the killer was. I am looking forward to the next book featuring this MC.
This is a great cozy mystery that gives you humor, romance, murder, suspense, and a happily every after (well for now, anyway).
As Kaley readjusts to island life as a new divorcée, she is thrust clearing her aunt's name.
Written so that you can imagine yourself moving around the island with the characters, you really get a feel for the resort and island atmosphere.
I enjoyed Kaley and Noa's chemistry. Even the terseness with Harmony was great. Don't just take my word for it, grab you a copy and see how you like it!!
First off, I received an ARC from the publisher for the purposes of an unbiased review.
That being said, if you are looking for a good cozy mystery to read on the beach, this hits the mark. It only took me about two hours to read it, both because I had the time and because the book grabs you from the moment Kaley steps off the plane into sunny Aloha Lagoon.
Quick Summary: Kaley, fresh off a press worthy divorce, arrives back in her hometown to pick up the pieces of her life. With a position at her Aunt clothing shop at the Local Resort, she's hoping to refocus and refind herself. Unfortunately, a murder gets in the way of a relaxing new start, but Kaley isn't about to let that get in the way.
I'll admit, I was completely thrown by the twist in this. I had the culprit in my mind, and when I was proven totally wrong, I'll admit that I laughed pretty hard at being wrong. It was an excellent twist, and while knowing the truth now I can see how the threads were woven throughout the book and the clues were all there. I just wasn't the greatest at seeing them, which is why I leave the mystery solving to people like Kaley.
The romance was pleasant, though at times it felt a bit...inevitable? I would have enjoyed seeing a bit more buildup to the 'inevitable', but that is more a personal preference of mine than a flaw in the writing.
The place I had to take off a star (and a half, but goodreads dislikes that) was for the, almost never ending, product placement. It made sense in a way, because Kaley was the manager of a boutique, but by the twelfth mention of the clothing that Kaley was wearing, my eyes rolled a bit harder than they probably should have. Again, a personal preference/irritant of mine, but it does begin to overpower the plot.
Anyway, to pull this overly long review to a close: if you're looking for a quick read with a good mystery, and a funny cast of characters, this is a good book to grab. 3 1/2, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
I LOVE the Aloha Lagoon Mystery series published by Gemma Halliday Publishing Co. How can you not like a series that centers around an island resort and involves murder ? Each book in this series is written by different authors but have the Aloha Lagoon Resort and the homicide detective in common in all the books.
Bikinis & Bloodshed by Anne Marie Stoddard is the 8th book in the series and we are introduced to Kaley Kalua who returns to the island after divorcing her cheating football star husband. Her Aunt Rikki and old childhood friend, Noa, are more than happy to have her back....for different reasons. Aunt Rikki is glad to have her back and hires Kaley as Assitant Manager at her high-end clothing store, The Happy Hula Dress Boutique.
But before Kaley can unpack and settle in an employee from the store is found murdered behind the store and Aunt Rikki is looked at as the top suspect. Kaley, with help from Noa, goes against her better judgement and starts questioning people to prove her aunt's innocence. Unfortunately when another employee from the store is injured Aunt Rikki is arrested and a note attached to a rock is thrown through the living room window at Kaley and Nao !!! Even though the note is telling her to back off, Kaley is more determined to find the person behind everything !!!
I love this series and returning to the Aloha Lagoon resort and meeting new people and seeing more of the resort in the different books in this series. No matter who you hang around with in whatever area of the resort you are in, you are sure of two things.... the first is that you will love it and wish it were real so you could meet the people and visit the resort and secondly there will be a murder....or two !!! So grab a drink and a snack and settle in.....you don't even have to pack to take the trip to paradise......
I like the way a group of authors have got together to create a series, with each of them concentrating on different characters and only the location stays the same. I have listened to a few of them and they all prove to be fun, light entertainment and this book is no exception. The cast of characters are interesting, especially the fitness fanatic aunt. You really get a sense of the location, apart from all the deaths it's a place you would want to visit. I really enjoyed the fact that most of the mystery was centred around a clothes shop and found it to be a nice change from coffee shops. The author weaves a nice story that keeps you guessing as to the identity of the killer and the motive. I look forward to joining Kaley again for another adventure. When Kaleys husband cheats on her he does it in such a fashion that it is plastered all over the news and the only way she can get away from it and him is by returning to her home town and working for her aunt in a fashion boutique. Do this has ruffled some feathers and the assistant manager walks out over not getting the promotion. Kaley thought working with the girl who tormented her all throughout her school days would be bad enough but that is nothing when her aunt gets accused of killing her former employee. The police don't seem very interested in looking at anyone else, so it is up to Kaley and her former high school crush to find the really killer. With all the clues pointing at her aunt and a nosey reporter following her every move Kaley will have her work cut out for her. The narrator was a little bit too enthusiastic for my liking. She needed to slow down and take a breath and some of the voices were just a little bit to high pitched. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
A fast paced fun Island mystery you just can't put down once you start!
This is the 8th book in the multi-authored Aloha Lagoon Series, This installment is written by Anne Marie Stoddard and is a fantastic and fun read. Kaley Kalua is coming back home to her aunt Rikki to try and restart her life and get away from a very public and embarrasing divorce. She comes to her aunt who raised her beaten, depressed and in need of starting over. Her aunt offers her a managerial job in her clothing shop although she makes an enemy in one of the store's employees, Assistant manager, Louanna who thought she should have been promoted instead of Kaley stepping in. Kaley starts to feel more confident and whenever she bumps into her long ago love Noa, who she left to marry the athlete she divorced she still feels some feelings. Could their relationship be rekindled? They are both wary around each other but still they get along so well. AND when Kaley's Aunt Rikki has to fire Louann and Louann is found dead, Rikki is suspect number one. Kaley knows her aunt didn't do anything and so starts the strenghtening of Kaley's character when she investigates the murder with the help of Noa and her very first friend she made on returning to the island. So goes the mystery and there are so many twists and turns and red-herrings you never get it figured out until the end! A great must read book in this series. Each book in this series is written by different authors so they can be read as stand-alones! I received and ARC from the author, but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own!
This is a great book; this is the eighth book in the Aloha Lagoon Mystery series and written by Anne Marie Stoddard. And when the woman is found strangled by a bikini top from the boutique, the police make it clear that Aunt Rikki is their main suspect. But Kaley is determined to prove her aunt’s innocence! This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Another enjoyable mystery in the Aloha Lagoon series. Kaley Kalua returns to Hawaii after she finds that her husband has been cheating on her. Kaley was born and raised in Hawaii and after her divorce is final she is eager to return to her native home and her Aunt Rikki. Rikki owns the Happy Hula Dress Boutique and Kaley will be managing the store for her aunt. The action begins as Kaley and her aunt stop by the store on their way home from the airport. Louana, the current assistant manager, is upset as she felt the manager’s position should have been hers and she and Rikki have words. Louana storms out of the store, destroying merchandise as she leaves while threatening Rikki with legal action. The very first day of work for Kaley starts out with her discovering a body and she realizes that she needs to find out who committed the murder before her aunt is mistakenly accused. Kaley begins asking questions about who else had reasons to commit this murder. Doing so, she puts herself in jeopardy while dealing with her renewed attraction for Noa Kahele, her former crush. This book has a mystery with an ending you won’t be expecting and an enjoyable cast of characters including Detective Ray and others who have appeared in previous Aloha Lagoon books. I received a free copy of this book for providing an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
The story of Aloha Lagoon continues, this time with a local girl (Kaley) who returns after her failed marriage. All she wants to do is work in her Aunt's store and escape notice after the publicity she experienced as a football player's wife. A football player with a sex problem that made every paper and scandal rag in the nation. So when she returns home and within days a former employee of her Aunt's store is found murdered behind the store, she plunges in to try and find the real killer. The police have their sights set on Aunt Rikki however, and somehow Kaley is back in the public eye.
The success of this series results from the fact that Aloha Lagoon is a tourist destination that requires almost an unlimited supply of people and businesses to run smoothly. This episode, while featuring the Happy Hula Dress Shop, also incorporates other places in the resort and past characters met in previous books. While the reader has a feeling of familiarity with the general location, each book introduces new characters and situations.
The Aloha Lagoon is clearly a place readers would love to visit in person. The stories are filled with mystery, native food, a beautiful setting, and romance. The perfect combination for a vacation, even if only taken in your mind. Don't miss the latest installment with murder and mayhem and a twist that leaves you shocked!
OMG...This book was good. Plenty of suspense and surprises at every turn of the page.
The story starts with Kaley who returns to her native land of Hawaii after getting a divorce from her cheating famous football player Brian. Kaley moves in with her aunt Rikki, who offers her a job as manager of Rikki clothing shop, the Happy Hula. One day Kaley stumbles upon the body of Louanna a former worker at Happy Hula. Since the island is only so big suspicion is quickly put on Kaley's aunt Rikki. With the help of an old friend, Noa, they set out to prove Rikki's innocence as well as trying to stay alive in process. Must check out this book. I was always wrong with who I suspected.
After a very embarrassing public divorce, Kaley Kalua has come home to help manage her Aunt Rikki's shop the "Happy Hula Dress Boutique" in Aloha Lagoon. After being home just for a few days Kaley is faced with trying to clear her Aunt Rikki as a killer when the former assistant manager is found murdered.
This is a awesome book in my opinion. It has a great mystery, romance and humor. I hope too see more from this great cast of characters in the future. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good cozy mystery that will keep you guessing who did it until the end.
I received an ARC from the publisher for purposes of an unbiased review.
Anne Marie Stoddard has written a cozey mystery murder that has you riveted by the beginning. The characters are vibrant and colorful some charming some quite pievish and one deadly ,.hidden perhaps in plane sight .I started this as a bedtime story to help relax and put me to sleep but I couldn't put it down once I began because you're drawn into its drama with in the first pages and routing for someone else to be found out as the guilty party and for the heroine's tattered life to become whole once again. Acquire " Bikinis & Bloodshed " today and snuggle in for a cozey but deadly entertaining read 😀 Kat
This book had what I look for in a cozy: great setting, exciting characters, and a "keep-you-guessing who the murderer is" plot. Do you remember the tv show North Shore in 2004 that took place at a hotel resort? The book reminded me of a cross between that and Magnum PI of the 1980's. I could picture myself in Hawaii as I read it. I will be looking to read more in this Aloha Lagoon series and hopefully more with Kaley and Noa.
I received an ARC from the publisher for purposes of an unbiased review.
I loved this book! This is one of those cute romance mysteries that you just don't want to put down until you've finished it! The story kept me guessing as to "who done it" all the way through.
I really felt like I got to know each of the characters and the locations. I loved the humor. And of course, who doesn't love a good romance!
This is the 1st book I've read from this author, and can't wait to read more!
I received an ARC from the publisher for the purposes of an unbiased review.
I really love this series of books. Written by different authors with some intertwining characters. In this story, I got to meet some new ones. Kaley, who comes back to the Island after a famous divorce to run her Aunt Rikkis boutique. Then there's Noa,who also comes back and hopes to rekindle the love he once had for Kaley. There are past enemies to deal with,a dead body, and lots of secrets to discover. This is an easy read because you flow through the story, then it's finished before you know it! Great story. I highly recommend this to everyone.
Recovering from an ugly cheating husband and equally ugly divorce Kaley returns to Aloha Lagoon and her Aunt Rikki who hires Kaley to manage her boutique. Who knew the resounding fireworks from another employee would result in her death and Aunt Rikki becoming the main suspect. Working through many unexpected situations Kaley and Noa investigate to find the true murderer to their own peril and finally after a mind blowing reveal the murderer is discovered. Read this book through the night to the next morning because I just had to know who did it and it was worth the lack of sleep!
There is nothing worse than being betrayed by someone you love. With Kalea went through and Erin the same both were easily mislead, though to the demise of Aunt Rikki. In the long run it never pays to try and take short cuts to earn your success since you only hurt yourself and your reputation. It seems detective Ray would know by now that the easiest explanation is not always correct. A very fun book to hold your interest to the end. Definite worth the five srars.
Fun wee cosy mystery set in the beautiful background of Hawaii. Kaley is a very cool character who returns home after a very public divorce from a very naughty footballer. She returns home to help her Aunt and ends up in the middle of a murder mystery with her Aunt as the main suspect. Kaley is determined to discover the truth while dealing with bikinis, friends, bullies, old romances...fun with a few chuckles along the way.
I received a ARC copy in return for a honest review.

Please do not abuse the word HOLY. This word belongs only to Almighty God. Sadly loses 1 🌟 due to the author's abuse of the word *Holy*. This is blasphemy and is NEVER acceptable
Loved reading this cozy mystery. With moving back home after a nasty divorce Kaley discovers the body of a woman behind her Aunt's clothing store. Kaley's Aunt Rikki is the prime suspect. Kaley is tasked with trying to prove that her Aunt is innocent. Lots of mystery and deception. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
An entertaining and enjoyable read. Of course, the setting makes the story a 10 almost immediately, but the characters and the plot are certainly well done. Worth while to pick up other tales by this author.
Not as good as the others. The story is well written but the series is now getting old. A boutique former employee meets her death by a bikini top. Can they sort out all the red herrings front the real clues. A good read but it has slightly lost it's edge.
Good plot and a good flowing story murder and mayhem when she returns to her hometown. How will she settle in if she has a Prada duffle bag, there is an old flame, and a jealous assistant manager come to light, and so did murder. Good narration by. Mary.added to the story.
Great story. I liked the characters very much. I was totally shocked by ego the killer turned it to be. I just didn't see it coming until just before it was revealed.
