Brotherhood Bachelors #1

Il re: LA CONFRATERNITA DEGLI SCAPOLI

Rate this book

Absolute fluff and brain candy, but perfectly enjoyable as such and a nice palate-cleanser in between other reads. Plus it was a kindle freebie.

The book did not pretend to be more than what it was, so that is why I award it 4 stars.

I was pleasantly surprised, at how likeable the MC, Stephanie was. She actually had brains and was not afraid to use them. She was refreshingly open and straightforward in general and towards the love interest as well. If something bothered her, she told the guy right away and tried to do something about it. She was also honest about her desires - no false modesty there either. And the ending had just a little bit of twist and made me laugh.

The love interest was cut out along the usual lines -hot, handsome billionaire- but his backstory was interesting and there was also a genuine vulnerability about him, which made him more believable than most characters of this mold.

Battle of wills
Stephanie Prescott is trying to figure out what to do wiht the rest of her life. Just out of a bad relationship and living out of the rundown bookshop she inherited from her grandfather, Steph just wants to take it one day at a time. Being hounded by a pesky and persistent realtor is not her idea of relaxation or taking it easy.

Matt King needs that bookshop. It's the last tie to his past and a chance to finally bury his family's secrets. He's already purchased the surrounding properties but the bookshop owner is refusing to sell. In a last ditch effort to close the deal, King decides to meet face to face.

What should have been an easy negotiation turns into a battle of wills. Soon King's not sure what he's more desperate to have, the girl or finally burying the past.

My impression of the book
This was a romance fail for me. I just didn't feel any real chemistry between King and Stephanie. King was too beta for me, the fact that he's always the first one to give in felt too one sided to me. It didn't help that Stephanie was so wishy washy. She flipped and flopped all over when it came to King and her feelings, his motives and even their inner struggles were anticlimactic.

This was a cute little thing.
Adorable, sexy, mysterious, suspensy.
I would've loved it more in the form of a real full-length book because it was all a bit extemely insta. And it was all a bit too predictable and too-often-used-in-romances.....
But I spent a nice couple of hours with it on a summer afternoon ☺

Didn't finish after page 33. I tried to give this book a chance. But by page 33 it was just way too clear that this was another extremely cliche, extremely unoriginal, dime a dozen romance novel. We have the girl, who is very attractive, the author makes sure we know this. We have the guy, also extremely attractive, the most attractive man the girl has ever seen in fact! Shocker!! And, oh yeah, he's extremely rich and successful. Another huge shocker!! Eye. Roll!!! It's all just so very uninteresting and unoriginal. Why do authors want to just rehash eachother? The lead female, I forget her name, is so bland. Nothing that comes out of her mouth is interesting or unexpected. In fact I think a robot just wrote this book with the way the girl dishes out her responses. Everything that has happened so far is so predictable. Down to the guy giving this cliche speech: "For some reason I just can't explain I just can't take my eyes off of you, Stephanie (Stephanie! That's her name I just remembered) and I just really want to get to know you better because you are so sexy and smart and funny and I can't stop thinking about you and I know it's only been three minutes since we met but i just already know these personality traits about you somehow and I think I'm in love with you!" Okay the part about him saying he loves her was made up, but seriously the author might as well have just put that in there. The rest is honestly what he says to her! Maybe you'll like this if you haven't read as much as me and this is your first romance novel. And you like generic characters and stories and don't mind that it's totally unrealistic and unbelievable in the most boring way. I'm all for fantasy, but if you are going to give me a fantasy then at least make it unique!!!

I wanted to stop reading too many times to give this one 3 stars. It was clean... But the romance was strange. I understand lack of trusting, but this girl was so insecure that it didn't feel like she could have a relationship in real life. She was too broken, scared, and fragile to be in love. If felt like she was just a spoiled brat who was stringing the guy along. It was the characters that bugged me most. This just felt too forced and fake for me.

Everything I hate about this genre

The world building is the strongest part and that is slapdash. Is Roxburge located in the northern part of New York? In the Midwest around Chicago? We don't know I only went with those places because of the organized crime.
The characters are simplistic, there are too many of them, and the motivations are scribbles on a plotting board.
The plot is insta-love enemies to lovers suspense. Those are three things that can be done well but combined they are a mess. I'm not saying someone somewhere won't get this idea right eventually. But it hasn't been done yet.
A good book recipe is like a good cake recipe, the ingredients have to work together to make a cohesive whole.
That's why a simple plot structure works best. It's not boring if you add unexpected elements and take time to really understand why things work together.
The writing needs work the love scenes are terrible. They sound like they were written by a man or by someone with a horrible bedroom play time. I get that Little may have wanted to be more realistic but, a partner that brings you to completion multiple times and loves foreplay isn't unrealistic. It's the goal not a unicorn--fantasy creature made up in fairy tales. And over all more research is needed. How does someone build an empire, act when they are abusive, or have dementia? Not the Hollywood version the real one. King had to innovate. Did he create the first mega hardware store or did he create a
franchise? Both actual models that were used successfully. And an abusive relationship takes years to build. In the first three months he'd have shown her a dark side. He'd have created a scene to embarrass the crap out of her or made her physically uncomfortable. He'd have grabbed her hard enough to leave bruises and held her even after she said stop, stomped on her foot, or pinched and twisted skin until it bruised all in a fit of rage. And he'd have justified it as her making him crazy. He'd have been sweet before and after. But at three months they are just starting to train you to watch out for their temper. They have already started to undermine your physical and mental state. Commenting on your clothing, intelligence, choices, and maybe even gaslighting you to make you question your own mind. An abuser doesn't just flip a switch one day, no he's always an abuser and he keep testing your boundaries until he knows that he can hit you and you won't leave. And as for dementia it's a horrible disease it isn't just the old lady can't remember. People react when they are frightened or caught in a memory. They can get aggressive and abusive. It's not a dynamic explored enough.
Pacing is alright at least it's over quickly. But since there are so many elements there isn't a slow down until the end which is really the scene from the next book in the series. Good idea chucking that one in here because it's a clunker. Adam and Em have the chemistry of milk and bread. There isn't any chemistry they just combine into a bland soggy mush.
Overall, it's just a skip. Ms. Little go back to basics, cut the fat and beef up the rest. And yes I wrote this review while hungry.

King

Great story. I liked the chemistry between them of course. And I really liked the H & the h. Sure Matt was cocky and arrogant and he thought that everyone could be bought. And then of course wanted to get to know what made her tick because Stephanie was unlike anyone he'd ever met. And of course, she had her guard up because he was so cocky and arrogant. Oh did I mention he is trying to buy out her bookstore that has been handed down to her from her late grandfather? But they see each other at the auction... He wants her of course. And he's jealous when his friend is speaking/flirting with her. They go out and sparks are flying and she can't deny that they have crazy chemistry. I loved the end and every other part of this book. It was short and sweet and very sexy.

Cute story, quick read

The story is a short quick read but the brevity is what hurts. Complex issues get a shallow, simplistic treatment and real problems are brushed over with nothing "solutions." A stalker abusive ex-boyfriend attacks and assaults the main character, with five witnesses? Sure, suspended sentence for a felony conviction and " not deemed a threat." Ridiculous...and the solution is some guy buying the radio station where he works and transferring him to the middle of nowhere? Male main character wants to buy building where family crisis occurred but when one owner won't sell, he falls for her and just decides he no longer needs to buy the building and knock it down. It's just all simplistic and trite.

Not sure about this

It’s a short story I know that but most of it was so predictable and everything was a breeze.

The characters didn’t add to the story I feel apart from their name the main two didn’t make anything special .

I was hoping some twist or drama but unfortunately she was weak and he was agreeable to everything .
For starters she came out of an abusive relationship and jumped straight into another one very easily no issues. He was determined to get bookshop and very easily gave up on that too he just very easily agreed to everything it’s so unbelievable and predictable I had to finish reading it just incase things got better .
I hate to say it but don’t waste you’re time , everything is like a weak cup of tea but bland .

Cute, fast moving

The heroine starts out strong and mostly stays that way. I particularly like how she doesn't wilt and submit when our alpha male hero goes all domineering on her. She snaps back, manages to get a few good digs in, and holds her own. There's enough witty repartee to elicit a few chuckles. I think that the way our protagonists fall into bed so very quickly is altogether too rushed, but I'm old-fashioned that way. There are some grammatical errors sprinkled throughout that could be rectified by a good proofreader. Overall, I recommend this book as a pleasant way to spend an hour.

KING...

I found it to be a fun quick read. I enjoyed the characters and for the most part the book was great. I did feel that the ending felt a little rushed and would have liked it to be a little more in depth. Obviously I enjoyed it enough to mark it 4 out of 5 stars. It may have been closer to 3 1/2 stars for me, but I rounded up. I was intrigued by Adam and Emma and look forward to reading their story.

Stephanie is holding out...

Stephanie owes the middle of 5 building, but Matt King wants and needs all 5. Stephanie refuses all offers until she meets Matt King in person, then sparks fly. This book starts out on a great pace, but towards the end really speeds up leaving me wondering if there could have been more... it has a great storyline but the end was abrupt though all lose ends were tied up.

This is a fun, entertaining, quick read. Matt and Stephanie are interesting, complex, relatable, intriguing, entertaining characters. Their path to their HEA is fun to read. I enjoyed them as individuals and a couple. While the story is under 130 pages, it is packed full. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. I’m looking forward to reading the other books in this series to find out how their romances play out. The story is easy to read and get into.

So, first off, this is a novella. It says it's almost 200 pages, but it's only 97.
It was a good short read. She's attached to her grandfather's store, he wants to buy it to erase his demons. They have insta-attraction and she has a hard time believing he actually lies her and isn't just using her to get her store.
The story moves along quickly, but still in a good way that didn't feel rushed.

Charming and Steamy All in One

I reallly enjoyes reading this story. It was charming while still having lots of steamy scenes in between. I love that the men in this book aren't assholes, they're sexy but with an edge to them that pulls you in and makes you want more. I loved the romance between Steph and Matt. It was a really goos story!

Short and sweet.

I enjoyed this book, it was easy to read and I was one in a couple of hour... I just felt the story was rushed. All the action was written in a weeks time. I liked the plot

Good for a quick read

This was cute. Sweet and perhaps a little simplified. Not a lot of depth. There is a good base and the romance was okay, I just felt there wasn't a lot of exploration into the feelings some of the characters should have had outside of the romance.

Entertains short story

Enjoyed this short romantic story and all the characters bar Kyle were extremely likeable. A sons love for his mother, preconceived ideas about a person and falling in love made this a good read. Would read others in the series.

Liked the beginning but was hoping for more pushback from the fmc. Instead it turns to a very sweet & tame story. Had potential but lost it when the fmc agreed to go on a date with him. Just felt off after that.
