Maybe you’ve experienced days where you feel insecure about your body, days where you’re struggling to motivate yourself, or even days when you find your heart shattering and you can’t see how it’s ever going to piece itself back together again. Rarely do you read a book and want to send a copy to everyone you care about. This is that book, for all the girls and women in your life. It does exactly what the subtitle promises: a guide through life's toughest moments and hardest lessons to soothe the heart and spirit and help you get your head straight and move forward. If you are very fortunate, you have a best friend who knows you well and always knows the right thing to say to lift your spirits and help you put things in perspective...but even the dearest, wisest friend can't always be available: this book is. It is written in short chapters - like letters to open in the moment of confusion and pain for 'instant' kindness, empathy, relief, and good sense. It could be that best friend is your future self - a little older, more experienced in life, hoping you'll gain the insights and take the actions now that make her, your future self, proud. If you are looking for the ideal gift - for a birthday, graduation, any occasion or just to say, "I love you" to the treasured girls and women in your life, this wonderful book is it!
This book needs to be given to every girl in school! NOW!
Every young girl needs to read this and have her own copy, this book is amazing. It covers so much including the death of a loved one which i found really helpful. I could sit here and write about everything written but that would take forever so let me just say this - BUY IT FOR ANY YOUNG WOMEN YOU KNOW. BUY IT FOR YOURSELF. YOU NEED THIS BOOK.
Im in my 20s. I wish to god someone had gave me this book when i was younger, i can only imagine the impact it would have had back then when it felt like my world was falling apart daily. We need to teach our young girls to have confidence, to be who they want to be and to never apologise for how they are feeling or what they want out of life. This book can help massively with that.
I was lucky enough to be given this book in exchange for an honest review, its a book i will recommend to all women in my life.
Absolutely beautiful. I don't know how else to describe this other than beautiful, every single woman on the planet needs this, I have already sent photos of one of the letters to a friend and plan on buying a few copies to share with the women in my life. I read the whole book through but it most definitely be something I go back to time and time again for small snippets when needed. The lovely context clearly says a lot about the author and I have joined the glow getter tribe today; plan on reading Shanis other books soon, thank you for making me feel wonderful, powerful and beautiful!
If you are one of those girls who wishes you had a best friend to confide in for support then The Babe Bible will become your best friend forever. Part self-help guide, part girl power manifesto- this book will inspire you, support you, uplift you, and help you appreciate yourself for the beautiful soul you are. This book covers everything from confidence, to love, body image, and everything in between. Written from the heart, Shani Jay’s authentic voice oozes off the pages as does her pep talk positivity that is both infectious and motivating. The Babe Bible is an easy read that does not come across as preachy or negative, but in fact the complete opposite! I would highly recommend purchasing The Babe Bible for any woman in your life who needs a little pick me up! Kudos to Shani Jay for tackling so many issues we as women battle on a daily basis with grace, class, and gentle nurturing. I know I will be referring back to it time and time again.
**DISCLOSURE: I received this book as a GoodReads Giveaway Prize**
I decided to enter the competition to win this book because I had never read a self-help book (it’s now the second one I’ve read this month!) and because I liked the structure. The structure is based on “Open When” letters. Each chapter can be read separately and focuses on a particular feeling; for example one of the chapters said “Read When…You’re Feeling Guilty About That Slice of Cake”. This chapter aims to make you feel more body confident and give you more self-love.
Shani Jay, author of The Babe Bible, is also the founder of the #GlowGetterTribe. This is a community based on the ideas of self-love, positivity and discovering your “inner Goddess”. These are the same themes that her book focuses on.
The book was split into sections describing different parts of life and while these sections all differed from each other, the letters inside the sections were all nearly identical. They were very repetitive and most of the letter was overelaborated with only one or two sentences needed to sum up the content of each two-page letter. However, I did read all of the letters at once so if the reader only reads a letter when they need advice on that particular topic they would find it more enjoyable.
I don’t like the cover of the book. It is very pink (pale pink background, pink title, pink hearts and the author is wearing pink in her photo on the back cover). The use of language was also unappealing. Personally, and this is just my view, I dislike the words “Babe” and “BFF”. Adults trying to appeal to teenagers often use these words and it sounds like the author is trying too hard to be relatable to all women. All together judging the cover alone I wasn’t very excited to read this.
Once I started reading I realised the language used on the front was continued throughout. Because the chapters are written as letters from Jay to the reader they were always addressed to “Beautiful” and the reader was referred to as “babe”, “sister” and “girl”. Personally, I didn’t like this as once again I thought it felt very patronising. The book is written for teenagers by an adult and this reflects in the tone.
I would give this book one out of four stars. In general I didn’t enjoy reading it. The tone of the book felt somewhat forced, there was a lot of repetition throughout and I don’t feel I gained anything from reading it. The idea of the book is great; a paper companion for young girls struggling to love themselves. But it would have been better if the book was more relatable to my age group (early twenties).
Although I didn’t enjoy this I do understand others would. If you enjoy self-help books and are in need of some advice on self-love I would recommend you give this book a go.
This is just a lovely book all round. It has a great feel, a great look and the content is lovely. It is heart warming and inspirational and a must for all women of any age. I really recommend this book. It is meant to be dipped in and out of, you don't have to read it all at once and I feel it is suitable for women of all ages.
An easy, comforting read. Perfect for when you need a pick-me-up. Shani's writing style is warm and soothing. It's like she's talking to you one-to-one. I'd recommend this book to teenage girls and young women who need some emotional support and encouragement. Disclaimer: I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
There’s a reason it took me two years to finish this book. Reading this was like pulling teeth. It’s hard to explain it. Some chapters felt very preachy..? Very like “you should do this, you should do that, don’t feel sorry for yourself, be grateful, there are people worse off (she said this towards the end).” This book just didn’t sit right with me. The only reason it has an extra star is because I know her heart’s in the right place. But this ain’t it. It was also pretty boring to me honestly.
