An absolutely gorgeous collection of 4 stories of what happened after "happily ever after". The book is very reminiscent of those big hardcover Disney books/collections that may have been released back in the 60's/70's. This caught my eye on my learning camp's weekly trip to the local library. I checked it out to share with the kids as we were focusing on "pioneers in animation" this week and we watched clips from Snow White as it was the first full length animated feature put out by the Disney Studio. Watching Snow White, you notice that there is very little dialogue actually spoken in that film.
This collection of stories is quite a contrast to that. There is ALOT of dialogue driving these comic storylines. There are also many more characters that get involved into the stories as well. For being a big book, I was able to read through it quite quickly. As for the stories, they are kinda odd and not anything like I imagined Snow White living through beyond the credits of that first Disney full length feature.
The artwork is pretty inconsistent. The evil queen has always been one of my favorite Disney characters and there are some drawings of her in here that are amazing and some where it appears to be a hastily put out drawing. That's how this book is. Some portions of the comics are really outstanding while some portions are pretty poorly drawn.
I really enjoyed this little collection of stories! As a Disney comics fan, I was excited to finally see some of Romano Scarpa's work. The art is gorgeous, and the stories are really fun. No, the writing isn't exactly sophisticated, but it's skillfully done and the stories are well executed, imo. I'd definitely recommend this to any other Disney comics fan, or any one who is particularly into Snow White.
