Fiona Riley was born and raised in New England where she is a medical professional and part-time professor when she isn’t bonding with her laptop over words. She went to college in Boston and never left, starting a small business that takes up all of her free time, much to the dismay of her ever patient and lovely wife. When she pulls herself away from her work, she likes to catch up on the contents of her ever-growing DVR or take a walk with her dog.

Fiona’s love for writing started at a young age and blossomed after she was published in a poetry competition at the ripe old age of twelve. She wrote lots of short stories and poetry for many years until it was time for college and a “real job.” Fiona found herself with a bachelor’s, a doctorate, and a day job, but felt like she had stopped nurturing the one relationship that had always made her feel the most complete: artist, dreamer, writer. A series of bizarre events afforded her with some unexpected extra time and she found herself reaching for her favorite blue notebook to write, never looking back.

This is the third book in the Perfect Match series. I have enjoyed them all, but I think this one was my favorite. Riley’s writing keeps improving and I liked that this was the steamiest book of the trilogy. You don’t have to read the other books before this one. While some of the characters from previous books are in this one, this story stands alone enough so you would not be lost. Personally, I would recommend reading them all, but only because it is an enjoyable series.

This book is Sasha’s story, the hot firefighter we knew a little from the previous books. Something about a woman in uniform, I can’t really pass up, so I was happy this book was about her. The other main Abby, I can’t recall her from the other books, but I could be wrong. Abby, comes from a wealthy family but hides behind a different last name so people don’t know. She wants someone to love her for her, not her money or power. When the two of them run into each other at a wedding, sparks fly. Is there a chance they are each other’s perfect match?

As other reviewers have mentioned, book 1 is romantic, book 2 sweet, this book was pretty steamy. I like how Riley was able to change it up for all three books. A lot of time writers make the romances similar in all the books of a series, this was a nice change. I also personally really enjoy steamy romances, so this book was right up my alley.

My only real complaint was the main angst of the book. You saw it coming a million miles away, so it was not a surprise at all. And because you could see it coming, you were reading the book waiting for the other shoe to drop, it took away a little of my enjoyment. Not enough to ruin the book or anything, but it is why I’m rating this 4 stars instead of 5. The rest of the book I really enjoyed so I’m not complaining too much.

If you are a fan of this series, or a romance fan, give this book a try. Riley keeps getting better and this is best book of the series. I can’t wait to read what Riley writes next.

An ARC was given to me by BSB, for a honest review.

"I guess you'll have to restart your car." Sasha cupped Abby's face and kissed her slowly once more. "Unless you feel like you've warmed up a bit..."
Abby followed Sasha's mouth as she leaned back to separate them. She stole a kiss before nodding. "Yup. Definitely warmed up."
"Good." Sasha ran her thumb along Abby's lower lip.

I can see why this one has lower ratings than the other books in this series: because this book somehow packed 2 full-blown third-act conflicts. Obviously, that only pulled it down by one star for me, and there were many other truly lovely elements that I appreciated. My review may contain light spoilers. So...the pros:

➥ Abby humbling Sasha
➥ Sasha and Abby dancing together
➥ Sasha buying Abby a bouquet of flowers
➥ Sasha noticing that Abby was cold and rubbing her arms to warm her up
➥ Sasha with her firefighter uniform on
➥ Sasha with nothing on
➥ Sasha's muscles
➥ Sasha being good with kids (god, my ovaries were going to explode)
➥ Abby being a moody hottie, but also an adorable fucking softie
➥ Edie and Luke as a couple
➥ Seeing Samantha and Lucinda all happy and in luuuuuhhv.
➥ The sex 😌🤗😘
➥ Steamy epilogue 🔥 (every single author needs to take fucking notes rn because that closing sex scene did NOT COME TO PLAY)

*Wipes brow*, well that was easy, why don't I always just write a pros and cons list? Probably because I obnoxiously overexplain things until I'm satisfied that all my thoughts are now in the review rather than in my head. Okay! Onto the cons...

➥ Double third-act conflict 😪👎 And they were both quite contrived.

➥ Followed by grand gestures 😬❌👎

➥ More dialogue blips than usual. Riley's work is rarely perfect and there are some occasionally cringey, face-souring moments, but this was another level. The glass-blowing pun, the fire puns ("dating someone so lit"), "babe" used once as a petname (I actually found it hot (I usually don't) but here is the TW you need).

➥ Although the sex scenes were great, as usual, there were fewer moments of the non-sexual romantic intimacy that Riley usually writes really well.

Generally, I liked Sasha's (h) character. Hot firefighter, delicious arms, gentleman-ish, sweetheart at heart. I didn't love the way she was presented initially as a "womaniser", admitting that she would look at other women while on dates in the past, but the book moved past that quickly. I envisioned her with a low blonde messy bun and NICE ASS ARMS 🥵🥵🥵.

But what Abby was most appreciative of was the cut of the tank top; Sasha’s strong, muscular shoulders flexed and rolled as she spun the bar while she walked. Abby had been surprised at how heavy the bar was, but Sasha maneuvered it like it was weightless.

I was drooling 🤷‍♀️. She's also really great in bed (duh) 😌💕 but like I said, a total fucking sweetheart.

Sasha stroked her side in reply, the soft sensation of a kiss between her shoulder blades warming her in a different way entirely.

Abby (h) was not here to play either. I loved how Sasha had this mesmerized gentle buff giant thing going on. Because she knows what's fucking up, Abby is fucking wife material.

"I'm an accountant." Abby shocked her once again.

"An accountant?" Sasha couldn't help the once-over she gave Abby and, to her horror, her mouth began saying things that her brain was screaming to keep to herself. "There's no way someone as gorgeous as you fools around with numbers all day."

"Is that so?" Abby blinked, a small smile settling on her face as she placed the now empty cocktail glass on the bar. Sasha was aware of Shaun trying to stifle a laugh behind them. She swallowed, waiting for what would be a totally deserved tongue lashing for her forwardness.

“Does it bother you? That I prefer the company of numbers to people with limited filters, such as yourself?” Abby’s lips shined as her tongue slid along them. “Contrary to what your skewed opinion may be, one can be both gorgeous and into math.”

Yeah, they can send the threesome application form my way 😘

I've just finished my third Fiona Riley book! BE PROUD OF ME. Hehe, kidding. Though, I do find it really fun to stay on top of a series this way.

So, at first, I was kind of hmmmmm about the firefighter angle. This makes me a terrible lesbian cupcake, but most uniforms don't do the most for me. That includes firefighter gear. They're so huge and impressive, yet intimidating and I can't help but think of all the soot and whatnot hiding in the fibres and....have I made my point? I haven't! Because with other writers, her having a badass job would put her in a big butch box. I like the subtleties of Sasha's personality and how her femininity shines through, while still sounding strong and capable of her profession.

With all the.......insanity on the news, I really savored this story by reading a bit at a time before bed, in transit, etc and then binged the last 20% percent because I'm only human. I love women in love.

If I had to describe this one, this book has the sauciness and steamy sex scenes of Showtime/HBO (even more than them because they rarely show lesbians REALLY getting down) with the shiny perfect appearances of like, an ABC or NBC show. At times, if felt like one too many folks were "beautiful" or the nicest person ever, which pulled me out of the narrative a bit. Every other character doesn't have to be physically beautiful to be beautiful, you get me? BUT, most importantly, the main love interests were beautiful in both ways, which is what I want. Shallow, I know.

Their angst was foreseen but more on the amusing, "oh god, when will the other shoe drop" way. I get Sasha's frustration. Their drama didn't seem insurmountable, so don't worry about that stressing you out if you're not the angsty type.

Overall, a solid book that I'm honored to review before it officially drops on Kindle. Please, please come out with more, Fiona Riley! Four stars!

This third book in the Perfect Match series brings together two women with something in common. They both have used the services of Perfect Match in the past, but a series of near matches have left them feeling like there will never be a special someone for them to love. Sasha McCray is a full-time firefighter who moonlights for a catering company, helping to support her parents and their medical expenses. Abby Rossmore works as an accountant for a charity and moonlights as a reluctant heiress. When they meet at the wedding reception for Sam and Luce all the fire-related superlatives used in the blurb come into play.

Strike a Match gives us just enough Samantha and Lucinda to remember what an awesome couple they make. Riley ties their fairy tale wedding reception into an introductory tool for the moonlighting Sasha, and the confident accountant/heiress Abby. Nothing sweeter than first connections at other people's weddings. It was a perfect showcase for the author’s skills at witty dialogue and her ability to set a scene and fire up the steamy bond these two women have right from the start.

This is a pure romance pleasure read. There are no villains to contend with, no broken hearts from serious past relationships and better still, no crazy ex’s showing up at inopportune moments. There is some serious lack of communication and secretive behaviour which creates a small amount of angst but that doesn’t detract from the amazing chemistry these two strong and independent women share.

A terrific escapist read filled with beautiful people who deserve their HEA. You can’t go wrong with a Fiona Riley read.

I first read these 3 books in late 2017 but didn't write reviews, so consider these second (or possibly third) reading reviews, all in one swoop, as I literally read one a day over the long weekend and don't wanna review each individually. Cool? Cool.

Miss Match: Sam and Lucinda, YES PLEASE. really fun titillating book about Samantha, a pro matchmaker and Lucinda, a dancer and PR exec extraordinaire. I'm a sucker for a femme/femme couple and these two do NOT disappoint. I couldn't help but be charmed by Samantha and her devotion to finding "perfect matches" for her clients. She's like a goddamned fairy matchmaking godmother to all the couples in the books, flitting in and out to inquire about the dates and all the sex and offering advice. Literally the moment she meets Lucinda the sparks fly, and people, the sex between these two is off the charts. Too perfect? Of course! There's nary a stray hair or mole or blemish on either of these heavenly women, but do I care? No the fuck not! Who cares in this girl's fantasy world? Gimme! Yowsa. 4.5/5.

Unlikely Match: I remember the first time I read this not being super drawn to this one in the series. But on second read, I really enjoyed Shelly and Claire. Shelly is a tech genius millionaire and Claire works for Lucinda. My head had a hard time wrapping around Shelly's supposed social anxiety, as her patterns of behaviour didn't seem to match someone who gets so anxious and awkward when trying to meet ladies. In fact through the book she certainly showed a lot of confidence, cockiness and full on sensuality with Claire.

A few icky things though: D'Andre is the WORST person, and I'm surprised he walked away so quietly. And the unfortunate timing of Shelly raging in the raquetball court for hours. She emerges from that place with bloody, blistered hands only to have her "first time" with Claire, and I couldn't help but cringe thinking about those hands in the shower with all that soap and how it must have BURNED. Plus, infection control nightmare, much? Sex scenes were pretty darned great later int he book, though. 4/5.

Strike a Match: Still good, though my least fave of the three. Sasha is a cocky firefighter who has a thing against rich entitled women. Abby is said rich woman but desperate to shirk the weight of her family name. They were both once attempted to be paired with Shelly from book 2, but that sure as hell didn't work out. Abby lost points with me by being a bit of a jerk by withholding truths about herself while Sasha openly tells her basically all the things. A lot of drama could have been avoided if adult communication could have happened. However I loved Abby's relationship with her mother, as well as Sasha's connection to her folks. Their first sex scene made me want to pass out, but not because of the sexy times, but the uh, extreme heat of the venue (for those of you who have read it, you know where I mean). it'd be like going at it in a sweaty armpit in the midst of a Toronto-humidity summer day. Not sexy for me personally because my head kept screaming "LET THESE WOMEN RE-HYDRATE! 3.75/5.

In case the reviews are not obvious, I love this series and would recommend it highly. Light reads of perfect femme women hooking up in various settings, from different backgrounds, is just a whole lotta fun.

Fiona Riley always gives us a good story. I can absolutely, unequivocally say I am a huge fan of her Match series. The first one was super romantic, the second adorably cute, the third well, awe holy hell it was HOT. Smoking hot!

Sasha McCray is a firefighter and sometimes bartender/waitress for a high-end catering company. She works her tail off to give her parents every penny she can. An accident involving a house fire decades ago left her father with a significant health issue that has compounded medical bill after medical bill. She is doing everything she can to keep her parents in their home and their worries at bay.

Abby Rossmore wouldn’t have to work a day in her life. This woman was born into one of the richest families in America. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t work though, quite the contrary. Abby has taken to running her family’s charitable foundation as the non-profit’s chief accountant. Abby doesn’t like the attention being a Davenport brings her. She never knows when she meets someone if they are interested in her, her money or her family’s connections.

Sasha and Abby end up meeting meet at a Lucinda and Samantha’s wedding. These two had met previously through book number two’s character Shelly’s date mixer. When they meet this time sparks fly with sexual tension. Abby is convinced Sasha is a womanizer and Sasha think Abby is just an accountant. With a whole lot of heat and a little bit of deceit, this book will make you fly through the pages. It's sexy, it’s cute and it will hold your attention to the very last sentence. This is a Fantastic book, with delightful characters, and chemistry for days. Like I said this book is smoking hot! 5 stars

4 Stars for Audio with the always excellent narrator, Melissa Sternenberg.

This is a re-read. I think listening to the book I got more pissed off at Abby for not telling Sasha about who her family was. Maybe because it actually goes slower than when I read so it felt like it went on too long? (I'm not a speed reader as some of you are). Nevertheless I enjoyed the re-read.

This is book number 3 of Fiona Riley's Perfect Match series, this time featuring hot firefighter Sasha and reluctant millionairess Abby. Even though it's ok to read it as a stand alone, you'll enjoy it more by reading the series chronologically. This book is entertaining, romantic and downright hot. The chemistry between the main characters is sizzling, the dialogues witty and the secondary characters add realism and entertainment to the story. Ms. Riley knows her craft and builds her characters with realism and defined personalities. A good example in this book is Sasha's father, so accurately described in his Irishness that reminds me of any of my neighbours in Ireland. My only criticism is in the last few chapters, one of the circumstances surrounding their conflict is a bit weak. However, the author resolves it nicely at the end.

Overall, an enjoyable read. 4 stars.

Strike a Match really strike something in me. Throughly enjoyed reading Strike a Match and liked the writing style. Loved the banters between all characters - simply hilarious and full of witty sarcasm that I always seem to have a smile plastered on my face. My initial thoughts of the 2 MCs weren’t all that good and likeable. But both characters, Sasha and Abby, grew on me; what’s with the chemistry between them, sassiness and all. And to top it all, Strike a Match is one helluva HOT read - the Hottest in the series!

“Strike a Match” is the third book by Fiona Riley featuring characters involved with Perfect Match, Inc., and all three books have been narrated by Melissa Sternenberg.

This is my favorite of the three books, and I’ve already relistened to much of it during the last weeks, so you won’t be surprised by my 5* rating!

MCs Sasha the gorgeous firefighter and Abby the number loving secret millionairess are really fun characters, and make a terrific (terrific!) couple. Their banter is fun, their glass-blowing date was fun, and their sex was VERY fun!

Despite the 5* rating, there were a couple flaws and disappointments in the book. First, the personality transformation of Shelly that occurred between books 1 and 2 continues. The once-shy girl who couldn’t get a date (book 1) now not only is marrying her own love (met in book 2), but both Sasha and Abby are disappointed at not being “the One” for Shelly. Sheesh.

Secondly, we all expect some angst, miscommunication and perhaps a breakup (AMB) along the path to an HEA, but in “Strike a Match” Riley doesn’t seem to be able to decide when the AMB should occur, so she created lots of AMBs. Sheeesh.

Thirdly, while Sasha signed up with Perfect Match on a bet/dare, she is at a point in her life where she does want a life partner who’s more than just a one-night bed partner. Her behavior is consistent with her desires. For Abby, though, wanting to a life partner who truly loves her, and isn’t just wanting to marry her money, is understandable, and that’s the basis for her signing up with Perfect Match. But, her behavior just isn’t consistent with her own goals. She wants a partner, yet is scared of being attracted to Sasha and frequently wants to pull back and slow down. Sheeeeesssh.

Fourth, the art director really stretched the photo for the audiobook - I really hated looking at it everytime I opened the Audible app! Sheeeeeessssssh!!

Well, despite those few issues, I really loved this book, and would love to meet either Sasha or Abby IRL ;) Despite the many miscommunications, it was fun rooting for their HEA. I especially liked that their family and friends were supportive and also were rooting for their HEA. Much more lighthearted fun than dealing with unaccepting family members or duplicitous “friends” that often populate lesfic romances.

I’ve enjoyed Melissa’s narration for each of these books, but she really excelled here!

This is Riley’s third book in her Miss Match series. The couple in this book are Sasha McCray, a firefighter who is working extra shifts and for her co-workers catering company to help support her parents and Abby Rossmore, a millionaire (probably billionaire) heiress who tries to keep out of the limelight and heads her family’s charity foundation and head accountant. Although Samantha from Miss Match doesn’t formally match them up as clients, she does work behind scenes to facilitate their romance.

I really enjoyed this classic romance. All the tropes are here - miscommunication, or none (a biggie), rich girl & not so rich girl, gorgeous women and most importantly likable MCs. Riley takes all the tropes and is yet able to make it very enjoyable and sizzling. My only complaint is that you see what the main conflict will be very early on - Abby doesn’t tell Sasha that she is the Davenport heiress which she prefers to keep on the down low. What is interesting is that neither have the obligatory BFF, cometic or otherwise. Their best friends are parents - for Abby it’s her mother and for Sasha her dad and somewhat her mother.

Highly recommend this book. Although not essential to read the first two books, it will help to know some of the reoccurring characters. June 2018 can’t come fast enough for Riley’s next book, Room Service which is not part of this series (as far as I can tell).

Finished this series in the sun at the waterside. As were the other two books, this was a nice light read for a relaxing day. Riley writes very well, her characters are nice and the romance is there plus some quite hot scenes.

ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third book in the matchmaker series, and features Sasha, who showed up briefly as a past date of Shelley’s in the second book and Abby, who also dated Shelley, but wasn’t actually a character in that book.

This is a fun read for the most part, the characters are engaging and have great chemistry. The way their relationship unfolds is both sweet and fun, and includes some great banter. Both sets of parents are also lovely and add to both the levity and the character building. Lucinda and Samantha also feature, (though Samantha shows up more) and their scenes are fun as well.

My only issue with the story was that obviously if one character is hiding something, it will bite them on the butt, and it does, although I was surprised this happened at the 3/4 mark, because it leads to the requisite breakup and those are usually left for right near the end. Unfortunately this was so another completely unnecessary breakup could be wedged in before the end. I could have lived without the second one, and the book could have done without it too, but the epilogue makes up for it.

I also give Ms Riley kudos for not doing something in the book that I was expecting the whole time (which I can’t mention here so as not to spoil the story), I love when authors surprise me.

Not sure if this is the last in this series, but I’ve enjoyed them all, and look forward to Ms Riley’s next book, whatever it is.

This book should come with an actual fire extinguisher.

Yes it's that HOT. Fiona Riley has been on a roll it seems. This is the third book in the "Perfect Match" series and just like book one and two this also gets a full 5* rating.

Where do I even start to try and explain just why this book is so good? Let's start with the chemistry between the two main characters. Have you ever felt seduced by a fictional character? I have because if Sasha was standing in front of me I would spontaneously combust, good thing she's a firefighter! [insert terrible pun about putting out my fire here]

I didn't think I would like Abby at first because of the way she was introduced. She came across as someone who's a little meek. My perception of her however changed very quickly because this woman is an actual vixen! She never backed down in her interactions with Sasha and gave as good as she got.. in more ways than one.

I loved the flirty sexy banter between the two and how that led to some sinfully good sex scenes. As great as that was the author does an even better job creating true intimacy between the two characters. This is especially noticeable when Abby becomes the shoulder for Sasha to lean on during a very difficult moment involving one of her parents.

This book was simply fantastic and yes you will probably need an entire tree worth of tissues because unlike book one this book does have some (even if slightly predictable) angst. So far I haven't seen or heard anything in regards to a fourth book. Hopefully the author will continue the series though because I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters yet. Do not miss this book!

Like everyone said, this one is pretty steamy. For some reason i really like Abby, alot. I like her personality. She’s kind of adorable i think. The chemistry between the main characters were obvious. The dialogues were great. And i also like how Sasha’s family interact with each other. Quite emotional and heartwarming to me. Abby’s mom was also great. She’s funny and i like her alots as well. It’s nice to see that she is not portrait as those kind of rich evil mom that always wanted to pair her kid with other rich kids.

One thing that i dont like:

Sasha was a possible match for Shelley of the previous installment but that didn't quite work out. While working her second job for a catering company she meets Abigail and flirts outrageously but also puts her foot in it. So she has to do a whole log more than flirt with the accountant to get back on her good side.

I enjoyed this but I'm not sure I liked it much more than Unlikely Match. The chemistry was better but I struggle when the main characters are not entirely honest with each other. It makes for good tension but I prefer it when the tension is from outside circumstances.

I loved the first one in the series but I've found Samantha to be an annoyance in the last two. It is a good read though.

This is third in a series and you probably don't really need the others to immerse into this one. But I did appreciate knowing all the backstory and it was nice seeing those couples happy

This is a secret-keeping book. I kind of hate those because the only point to make a secret-keeping plotline is so that it can blow up and create drama. Most often, that includes a dark moment, which I also hate. I was hoping that Riley would avoid that, but I don't know why. Authors never do. The thing is, it makes Abby really stupid. She has been told by Samantha, who is the relationship god of this series, that she needs to not hide things and that she can trust Sasha. But Abby keeps the secret anyway. And Riley works pretty hard to make that not quite a relationship betrayal for the first half of the novel. I mean, people don't reveal all right up front when dating, so for a while, it can be no big deal. But now we're days past the point where Abby herself had the thought "I need to tell her" and still no movement. They've had lots of sex. But apparently no actual intimacy, if you see what I mean.

So yeah, I'm stopping at about ¾ in. I liked Sasha a lot, even if I don't quite buy the model-beautiful firefighter chick with the sharp wit and heart of gold. But Abby is just a big pile of judgmental insecurity and she makes me tired.

I'm going to add a second star because the secondary characters are a delight and the side matches by Samantha have been very entertaining.

This is book 3 in the Perfect Match series. I loved all 3 books. If you haven’t read the 2 previous books I would start there. I do not think it is mandatory, but I believe the overall reading experience would be better. While all the books are romantic, they are all very different from one another. Riley really knows how to write romance, but can still keep it hot without over doing it. I love her characters, and how different they are but they fit well together. My favorite in the series is still book one, but I was so happy Samantha plays an important role in all of the books. If you read this series and are not at least a little bit in love with Samantha I am unsure if there is any help for you. This book is about two characters we were introduced to earlier in the series. Sasha is a firefighter so instant points for most of us. She is hardworking and loyal. Abby is wealthy and works hard even though she doesn’t really have to. For me these two just clicked. I was rooting for them from the beginning. This is also a steamy romance, which goes perfectly with the firefighter. I enjoyed this one a great deal. I own the entire series in ebook and audiobook form (just purchased this one on audible). They are all great reads but are also great audiobooks. Pick them all up today if you haven’t read them, but this one is just as good as the previous two. 3 winners in a row is a huge successes for Fiona Riley. Ready to see what is next.

5 star narration for this audio book. And i was going to give the book 5 stars too, until the first makeup scene, where one main character takes the stage at a totally inappropriate time , to make her plea. I'm one of those people that gets incredibly embarrassed and uncomfortable when people make fools of themselves. Though, others might just find it sweet. I sat here saying "shut up. please just stop talking. omg how embarrassing"
From there it get cheesy . Still, a good 4 star book. 2 very likable characters with chemistry.

This is the third book in the Perfect Match series, but each story stands alone so you don't need to read them in order, in fact I still haven't gotten the chance to read the first one, and I've enjoyed books 2 and 3.

I really enjoyed the second book but I have to admit that I loved this one even more. I really liked the characters, the main ones and secondary ones, I wanted to know more about each one of them.

I highly recommend this one!

Fiona Riley knows how to write. It doesn't matter whether you want a classic love story, sweet coupling, steamy, erotic ones, she does it pretty good, and has shown it with this trilogy. In my world of favorite couplings, this book goes really high up the rankings. I was a great fan of Lucinda/Samantha from the first book and I thought Fiona Riley can't ever write another two characters that charming and oozing chemistry, but Sasha and Abby are maybe outranking them. This book is so addictive, it leaves you no choice but to read it all at once. their chemistry is out of this world, their banter and flirting and their dialogues are very well written; if you are looking for steamy, hot, erotic romance with great characters, this is the book for you.

Keep them coming!

This author has done it again. Sasha and Abigail have chemistry to last them a lifetime! I loved the way the author developed these characters, the supporting characters are adorable. Samantha and Lucinda make their cameo appearance on this book as well. I hope that there will be more stories about this charming matchmaker and her adventures with matching up couples in finding their soulmates. Well done!

So here's the thing with Fiona Riley's Perfect Match series: it's romantic, it's sexy, it's the kind of queer you don't see very often in lady-love romance, and it's got hands down some of the best exploration of family I've seen in queer fiction, period.

So, let me break that into bits for this particular book, the third in the series.

Romantic matchmaking can be a bit of a struggle to pull off, but Samantha, Fiona Riley's genius of making love matches, has an eye for the right couples, and each book spins a lovely—and unique—fantasy between two awesome women. In this case? We get Sasha, a firefighter who is fighting on the home-front too, to keep her family afloat in the face of crushing medial bills (we met Sasha briefly in Unlikely Match) and Abby, an heiress who wants nothing more than to find that kind of spark with someone, but has learned most people spark with her heiress fortune, rather than who she is. So she hides who she is from potential love, which makes its own problem. Together, the two women click, but how can you move forward when one person is hiding a significant portion of who they are?

You can't. And therein is the core of the book's dilemma: Abby finding the strength to risk getting burned again, and trusting someone. It's not as simple as that, of course, and one of the things I love about Fiona Riley is it's never quite a "just sit down and talk to each other" so much as it's the fallout from those conversations driving the wedges. That's a big deal, and it's done so well with these characters. Especially given that the bigger issue at hand is, of course, Sasha's father's illness.

Now, I mention that you don't often see queers like those in Fiona Riley's books, and you also don't often see families like the ones you get in her books, either. This is another great example of this. First? Her women have queer friends. Gay ones, even. There's bisexual rep throughout the series, too. There's no queer "bubble" where the only two players are the only two queer ladies in existence. This is so much more representational of our real lives. And the families? We've explored cold families, and huge, sprawling families; we've also explored siblings-as-families, and chosen families and... Gah! It's just so atypical. I love it.

This time? We have a brilliant mother-daughter relationship with Abby and her mother (and even gentle pushes from Abby to see her mother try dating again, for another round of happiness). More, with Sasha, we see a family pulled tightly together, facing down terminal illness with joy, laughter, and (of course) some tears. The fight to keep Sasha's family afloat financially is a core piece of Sasha's character, a drive that she's taken on, and her relationship with her father as her hero is really moving.

And of course, Fiona Riley never fails to scorch. The heat is high on the page, and I loved some of the playfulness here, as well as a bit of role-reversal, with Abby being rather a dirty talker (not the kind of thing usually ascribed to rich, upper-crust women, no?)

For fans of the series, there are Easter Eggs with Lucinda and Samantha, as always, and indeed, the start of the book itself is a huge payoff moment for long-time readers. If you've never read any Fiona Riley, start at Miss Match, and don't look back.

I’ve been a fan of all of Fiona Riley’s leading ladies so far, but Abby and Sasha are my favourite! They’re both smart, funny, and sexy. Abby is kind and the literal opposite of a spoiled rich girl, just wanting to do what’s right and help people as much as possible. Sasha has a giant heart, working two jobs to help her parents with her dad’s medical bills and taking the little time she has left outside of work to actually help with his care when she’s able. Their chemistry crackles from the beginning and is satisfying all the way to the end of the book.

Strike a Match

Like the first and second book, this had fun banter, amazing chemistry and lots of passion. Fiona Riley created a fabulous trilogy that was worth the lack of sleep I ended up with. I have read this trilogy a few times and will always come back for more.
