”I didn’t expect his soft kiss on the back of my neck; it was improper and inappropriate, but I found the gesture comforting and more than a bit erotic. I shifted and turned to him, holding his eye. I thought for a moment he’d kiss my mouth but he only watched me warily, as if afraid of my reaction.
“Yes,” I said, a bit breathily. “Thank you.”
He stood up, leaving my dress open in the back. I watched as he prepared his horse to go again and was a little disappointed when he lifted me up into the saddle by myself.
“So you don’t have to lean back against me,” he explained.
“I see,” I said, and he took hold of the reins. We began to walk as he guided the horse forward. At first it was quiet; I wondered what he was thinking. That kiss, the touch of his hands, was the only thing on my mind. The intimacy of it left me breathless and unable to form any words. ”
