FOLLOW THE PSALM WRITERS INTO A DEEPER EXPERIENCE OF GOD. You've known the love of a parent, the closeness of a friend, or the intimacy of a mate. How could you hope to experience an even deeper relationship with someone you've never met face-to-face? It's not only possible, but promised. In Intimacy with God, Cynthia Heald turns the Bible's most expressive book into a dwelling place for your heart's deepest needs. You'll find yourself becoming more honest and vulnerable before God as track the Psalm writer's struggles and triumphs on their way to intimacy with God; make fresh, personal observations with the help of quotes from classic Christian authors and thinkers; spend more time reflecting and less time looking for "right answers"; adapt the depth and pace of study to your own needs; and experience the rich, lively discussions with others who join you in Bible study. Whether you are a man or woman, Intimacy with God will help you say along with David "O God, you are my God...earnestly I seek you."
CYNTHIA HEALD is a popular speaker and author of the Becoming a Woman Of . . . Bible studies, which have sold millions of copies. Her passion to help women walk more closely with God and live life to their full, God-given potential is seen in Drawing Near to the Heart of God. She and her husband, Jack, are full-time staff with The Navigators in Tucson, Arizona.
I usually enjoy Cynthia Heald's devotionals more than most, but I didn't really connect with this one. Maybe it was because it was about the Psalms, which is not one of my favorite books in the Bible.
Heald selects beautiful psalms and accompanies them with beautiful quotations from great Christian thinkers. So many of us that participated in the study of this book fell in love with the Psalms: as poetry, as great writing, as honest records of real emotional struggles, as celebrations of God and his work in his people.
Heald uses a handful of Psalms and quotes from Christian leaders and hymns for each of these 12 devotionals to walk the reader through principals of intimacy with God. Private reflection and contemplation are encouraged by thought-provoking questions related to each topic.
I like some of Heald's other writings better, but this was still a good devotional based on the Psalms.
I learned that my relationship with God is real and personal and that He is real...in a way that I never imagined before...and that He thinks of His children constantly.
