Things had been feeling off for Mara for a while, her dreams and unease as she approached graduation keep her looking over her shoulder constantly, but she never could have prepared for the night that changed everything. She finds herself on the run with a handsome guy named Theodore, filled with questions and fear as she leaves everything she's known behind her. Her old life is gone, in its place is a locked-down safe house, an over-protective jerk for a protector, and a sea of lessons to learn about the magic she never knew she possessed.

"Something big was happening. Something I believed none of us were prepared for."

Mara is a likable and naive teenager, her previous life cushioned by good friends, an amazing father, and a fairly normal high school experience. She's the perfect YA cliche, a sweet girl who happens to be an Enchanter and one of the Chosen Ones meant to save all those who are good and against The Iniquitous. I'd tell you more, but that's about all the book gives you to work with. Theodore is your good guy in a bad boy's body. He's handsome, he's brooding, he's a massive jerk, and he's all about protecting Mara from...well...everything. He takes his job as a Protector a little too seriously for me. They, of course, find one another so attractive. Then there's Theo's little sister Adelaide, Mara's new bestie and Winston, resident cute guy with an English accent. Queue the drama. On top of all this, there's a war building up outside the protective doors and it all leads back to Mara.

"I still felt like plain old Mara. Not an enchanter. and certanily not chosen."

I wanted to love Enchant. Everything about this book, prior to reading it, called out to me. The gorgeous cover, the intriguing blurb, and of course, the promise of witches, romance, and drama. I love YA Fantasy novels, I rarely read any Adult Fantasy so I really expected this to be right up my alley. Micalea Smeltzer came with fairly high recommendations from my friends and I figured, what better book to start with than Enchant? Unfortunately, it just really missed the mark for me. I felt like I was reading a young adult book written by an actual young adult, not a book written for YA by a well-known, several times published author. Each scene reads like it happens in seconds, 4 months gone in a blink of an eye, and the break between paragraphs seems to be done by a dull chopping knife.

"Was it possible that my touch affected him the way his did me?"

It's hard to follow the events happening in the safe house and even harder to follow along with the character's relationships. At one point Theo knocks Winston for reading Pride and Prejudice, but a few pages later admits he loves to read everything. What? So you're pulling the ole Kindergarden card, where we're mean to impress the people we like? The dialogue felt forced, the chemistry was lacking, and the premise of the story was flat. I wanted emotions, I wanted background, and I wanted to really see the magic and the romances completely play out. The usually well-received cliche of youthful witches fighting the draw of romance, while also fighting for their lives, is not done well in Enchant and it will fall behind other well-known novels with similar storylines.

"You are my greatest fight and my longest battle.

I'm giving Enchant an extra star, rounding my review out to 3 Stars, because I kept reading and it does have an incredibly intriguing plot. Plus, there are some really fantastic lines in this book, lines that show how well Micalea Smeltzer can write. I'd love to see this book get re-released with a more fleshed out story, maybe someday. I think more truly young adult aged readers will appreciate Enchant, but I suggest waiting for book two to release before jumping into Enchant right away.

Digital ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This review can also be found here, on my blog!

Look, I knew what I was getting into when I read the blurb of this book. It's the sort of premise that dominates paranormal books (particularly those of the last couple years). You know, a 'normal' girl who meets a mysterious (dark, hot and usually insufferable) boy who tears apart everything she knows, and shows her that she's actually -insert paranormal creature here-. Not just any -insert paranormal creature-, oh no. She's a special one. He whisks her away to a new life, where she must learn to embrace who she is, because everyone now depends on her.

This book had that down to the literal Chosen One title.

I knew this from the opening chapter, honestly. I really knew that I had to be careful going in -- either to accept it for what it was, or to close the book and leave it to those who aren't so picky. Because I know I can be quite picky when it comes to these books.

I think it's because this kind of book used to be a favourite of mine. I was a sucker for bad boys and girls secretly finding out they have powers that they then go off and learn how to use...

And maybe I still am a bit of a sucker because I kept reading even as I rolled my eyes....

The thing is, this book did have the bones to be a pretty decent story. I mean, this cliche was a cliche for a reason. This premise can work really well, and it's kinda addictive to read by nature of the whole finding out about this world with the protagonist under the threat of the dark, ever looming evil forces. I liked the idea of a group of enchanters split, and the 'good' now sequestered into safe houses across the world, trying to protect and educated other enchanters before the 'bad' can get to them. I liked the idea of protectors... a lot...

And I am a very very big sucker for a good bad boy. Especially one in a role as cool as a protector. I mean the idea of people being paired for reasons outside of their control, and pushed together like Mara and Theodore were is something I enjoy. I really liked that Theodore was a protector, but also his own person? I mean that in the sense that Theodore was his own character who'd grown up without Mara and wasn't defined by her, but also his entire role was in looking out for her.

But.... Theodore bugged the hell out of me, mostly because he was inconsistent. I mean this boy was supposed to live or die for her, but he'd spend his life antagonising her, and freaking out and picking dumb fights. One moment it's "don't leave my sight" the next he's disappearing off to do his own thing. And to be honest, I was willing to look at that as a sort of conflict of his role vs. him being his own person but...

He was a bit of a dickhead. Like when he is angry at Winston and finds out that he's reading Pride and Prejudice he says "I didn't know you had a vagina" (which reaaaaally tested any soft spot I had for him tbh). And then later it comes up that he reads books and its supposed to be some awwe soft boy moment, but all I could remember is that comment?? Like how did she not call him out for that, Mara got as angry as I did when she heard him in the first place.

He's also all over the place with what he wants from Mara, which creates a lot of conflict between them that shouldn't be there, if he needs to keep her safe. I mean, she needs to be able to trust him no matter what, and she can't if he's acting all over the place.

And then there was the issue of romance. It's hard to say a lot without spoilers, but the were some weird skips around that didn't make a lot of sense to me. I mean I knew, again, that with the premise we'd have some sort of angst. The whole protectors can't date thing was always going to be a blockade in an obvious romance, but even for the premise it was a little random.

Mara didn't bug me as much. I mean she wasn't always the easiest for me to connect to, and I haaaated that we saw glimpses of girl on girl hate (esp @ Naomi), but she did keep me reading? Although, I must also say that I wish she'd been a little more... caught up? Normally I dislike how long these protagonists refuse to believe what they're seeing, but Mara accepted everything very quickly. . It would have given a lot of depth to her character to see those kinds of emotions.

But she was very capable of holding her own, and her acceptance meant that we skipped the whole "you've got the wrong girl!" thing. For the most part. Her training with Theodore was nice to see - I liked to see that it required work and lots of practise. Though I'm still not sure why they didn't do that in her classes. I'm also still not sure why they started all these classes like it was a school year when there were only twenty people?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that this book could have been a pretty good?? take on a paranormal premise, but it fell into a lot of the same traps. And that would have been cool, I mean I'll roll my eyes at cliches and continue reading if I like the characters. But Mara could have used a little more depth, and Theodore had me until some of his dickhead comments..... (Like honestly?? if not for that line I would have probably really enjoyed him).

But all this said, I did read the book in one sitting. And I am kinda interested by where the author will take it after that cliffhanger of an ending.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

Enchant is a YA paranormal romance about Mara Pryce. She's just an ordinary seventeen-year-old who's just graduated high school. At her graduation, a mysterious, grey-eyed guy shows and suddenly disappears. Mara is convinced he's just a figment of her imagination. Then one day he returns and she discovers she's an Enchanter, a witch. Theodore, the grey-eyed guy, takes her to a safehouse, where she'll remain hidden and learn about her powers.

When I first read the synopsis, this book seemed right up my alley. I mean, a girl who's just graduated high school who learns she's a witch? Yes, please! I LOVE these kinds of books, especially when they're NOT set in High School. Looking back at the synopsis after reading it, though... I didn't like it as much and felt like it's almost a synopsis for a different book. Apparently Enchanters are part of an ancient Wiccan like, but.... There's nothing about that in the book? There's also something about a war, and yes, there's a little bit about said war in the book, but by far not enough, for my taste. Plus, the "real threat is closer to home than they want to believe"? I must've missed that part.

I also felt like the book has too many similarities to City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. First of all "All the stories are true"?! Erm, yeah, heard that before. I'm not saying it's 100% exclusive to The Mortal Instrument, but the book also has a garden scene. Which is about 99% the same as in COB. I think there's even more, but I also think I've made my point.

There are things I did like, though! I kinda liked Mara and Theodore, although not all the time, especially when Theorode kept calling Mara 'doll face'. Was that really necessary? I loved Winston and his British accent, and Theo's sister Adelaide. I loved their (realistic!) sibling relationship. Overal I liked their friend group in the safe house. Also, that cliffhanger, though! That was really cleverly done because although I had no interest in the sequel, I kind of really want to read it just to see how it'll continue, omg!

I really wish I had liked this more! The storyline/plot definitely has potential, and I can see why other people might love, it just didn't.

I am slowly getting through all my NetGalley books. Which is really helping my stress level. Now to the actual review. I'm a simple person, I see anything paranormal (vampires and witches especially) and I got to read it or at the very least give it a try. So this one pulled me in quickly. I loved the characters and I thought everything was well done but the whole war part.... I just felt that it could've been more. Otherwise, I can't wait to read the rest.

"You know how you girls have loads of book boyfriends? Well, I have my book girlfriends.
I snorted.
Laugh all you want but a real man likes to read."

I’ve had this arc sitting on my bookshelf for years and I’ve thought about reading it a few times but decided against it. There is seriously something wrong with me because this was epic as hell. I was captivated from page one and now I’m desperate for book two. This was my very first experience with paranormal romance from Micalea and it certainly won’t be my last.

Mara’s adult life is just beginning. She’s graduating and turning eighteen soon. Life hasn’t always been perfect but life never is. She’s lost her Mom at a very young age and it’s just been her and her Dad. But things are about to change.

The night of graduation, Mara attends a party with her very best friend. Things go from fun to devastating as her friend appears covered in blood and is freaking out. As they rush home, Mara finds a stranger in her house demanding that they leave now and that there’s no time to explain.

She notices this strange man from dreams and from catching glimpses of him around. She relents and off they go. He tells her things that she didn’t know existed but she knows for sure that she’s in danger and he’s there to protect her at all costs.

Mara learns that she’s an enchanter and Theodore is her protector. The Iniquitious is after her and they want blood. Theo is taking her to a safe house to protect her and so she can learn to use her abilities to the full extent. But sometimes secrets are closer to home than you think.

Enchant was magical, captivating, and exhilarating. It was a thrill ride that wouldn’t let you go. I honestly couldn’t stop reading this, I was/am addicted to Mara’s story. Mara and Theo are two characters that you won’t ever forget and you’ll be desperate to read more about them. And don’t even get me started on how swoony Theo is.

I’m just speechless at how breathtaking this is. Don’t hesitate to pick this up as I did. Make sure you have the second book available after reading this because you’ll be losing your mind from that ending.

This is the first fantasy book I have read from Micalea and I really, really enjoyed it!! I loved getting to know Mara and Theo and I want more. I did feel that it was a little jumbled at parts but felt it was more about the story building for the rest of the series/triolgy than a lacking to the story. There is action, romance, and adventure. This is an adventure that I encourage you to take!!

4.5 STARS!!!
This was such a great paranormal read of good v's evil. The story follows Mara and her protector Theodore as they prepare for a battle of Enchanted v's Iniquitous and what a story it is. This story is filled with suspense from the very beginning and ends the same way. There were laughs, bickering, friendships and enemies between these characters and it was both amusing and frustrating at times. There were times I wanted them to act more mature than their age, but I loved the chemistry between Mara and Theo, they were so right for each other it was irritating. I felt bad for Winston but the heart wants what the heart wants. Adelaide was another character in this story that will have you smiling, she was too much but I loved her. I really enjoyed most of the characters in this story and this one ends with a huge cliffhanger that left me wanting and anticipating the next read. I also look forward to the growth of the characters in the next book because once they come into their full powers they will be unstoppable.

I've read pretty much all of this author's contemporary books, but I've only read one of her paranormal series'! I knew that she was supposed to publish this book a few years ago and then she ended up not doing so, so I was very sad about that! So it's fair to say that I was very excited when the author announced that she was publishing this book and the other two books in the trilogy! I signed up for the Blog Tour as soon as I saw one and I started my ARC as soon as I received it! After reading, I can say that I loved this book a lot! It held my interest all the way through and only took me a few sittings to read too! I wish I had read it slower so that it lasted longer lol! The plot also had quite a lot in it and had a few action and suspense scenes too! There weren’t too many action and suspense scenes, but the romance was at the forefront of the plot! I loved the romance! There was a bit of a love triangle too and this fuelled the plot and allowed for more things to happen! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Mara was the main character, and in this book she went through a lot in a short space of time! This made me feel sorry for her because she was ripped from the life that she knew and was told a lot about her real life and about what she really was! I think that Mara handled it all very well and she adjusted quickly to her new life! Mara also had two potential love interests in this book and I liked that she didn’t drag both guys along and play them off against each other! I connected with Mara all the way through this book too! Theodore "Theo" was the main love interest of Mara! I loved Theo a lot in this book! He had a hard, tough exterior, but underneath it all he was such a loving, caring guy! Theo was also very, very protective of Mara! This was completely understandable because it was his job to keep her safe and out of danger! It was also easy to see Theo’s real feelings for Mara! He really loved her, but he shouldn’t be in love with her, so sometimes he was distant with her and wasn’t the nicest! I could understand why he was like this! This book was only written from Mara's point of view! I wasn't sure if it was going to be written from only one point of view or from dual point of view after I read the synopsis! I was slightly sad that Theo's point of view wasn't in the book, but maybe the author will write a few chapters from Theo's point of view in one of the next two books! I can also completely understand why this book was only written from Mara's point of view! It was her journey and about the changes that she went through! I also can't wait to read the next book in this series! I'm not sure when the next book is going to release because all it says on Goodreads is late 2017, but I'll definitely be anticipating its release and hopefully it does release before the end of the year because I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen! The cover for this book is also absolutely stunning! It would definitely draw me to the book and make me want to read the story behind it if I saw it! I love how well it suits the book and the cover models on the front are the perfect Mara and Theo too! Big thank you to Micalea for an ARC of Enchant and to Good Choice Reading Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!

This book was just okay. I actually struggled to finish the whole thing. Maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea, though supernatural is usually something I enjoy. One thing that irked me about this work was there was too many shower scenes. Why was everyone always taking a shower? The main character took two showers in the first chapter alone. The story was too fast past, it went from one thing to the next with out building up any suspense. I feel like you didn't get to know the characters. It was unbelievable....and yes I know this is a story about magic. Who just tells there best friend bye on the phone, and then doesn't even seem to care or think about them again until months later? This isn't a book I would recommend for anyone to read. The author needs to work on their characters and the overall narrative. I really wanted to like this one, but I didn't. :(

This book is phenomenal.

All the time I read contemporary, and mostly NA romance that I forgot how fun and amazing paranormal and YA books can be.

The whole story is captivating and mysterious. It pulls you in and you can't stop reading. I loved the characters, both main and supporting. They are well developed. There were moments when I wanted to punch Mara in the face, but at the same time I can totally understand where she's coming from.

I want more of this series, and I want it NOW.

Brilliant indeed, Micalea.

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Holy cow can Ms. Smeltzer conjure up a beautiful story! Follow Mara (doll face) on her mystical journey of discovering who she really is with the help of her protector Theodore (Theo).
Follow the battle between the Enchanted (good) vs the Iniquitous (bad) to see which side comes up victorious. I wish I had my own “magical powers” to see into the future, because with the cliffhanger we are left with – dang I need some answers!!

No, it's not out yet, but I was able to read an advanced copy and I loved it! I've always been a fan of Micalea's work, but hadn't read any of her paranormal books before this one. Now I need to go back and read the others. Add this to your TBR immediately if you're a Micalea fan or a paranormal fan. You won't regret it.

2 stars -- I received a free copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

I hate when this happens.  I actually won an ARC of this book, but it just did not work out for me.  And that always bums me out.  I've never read anything by this author before, but I've heard great things about her contemporary books...so I'm uncertain if it's just that her voice doesn't shine through as well in non-contemp books?  I'll maybe give those a try before I decide if we're just not a match.

So what didn't work for me?  Well, for one thing, I didn't like ANY of the characters.  ANY of them.  I didn't really hate any of them, but I couldn't care less about them and what was happening to them.  They felt very shallow, both in attitude and in how they were represented...I needed more dimensions.  I honestly couldn't really tell you very much about them.  And what I can tell you, I didn't really like.

Mara was very flat.  She barely reacted to anything that happened to her, and her emotional reactions to the bad things were short-lived (except the dream/vision...that one was better, I actually felt for her).  She didn't seem to form connections with anyone, or when she did it was immediate and we weren't shown what drew them to one another.

And Theo...well he was a dick.  And I get he was supposed to be a dick, but the moments that were supposed to swing me to his favour just didn't work for me.  They did not supersede his bad attitude.  And holy volatile!!  I can't tell you the number of times he just started screaming at people (usually his sister) out of nowhere!  They were over the top reactions in my opinion.

As for secondary characters, nothing from them either.  We barely met her BFF Dani before she was out of the picture, or her father (though he might have been cool).  Adelaide was OK, but mostly she came across very self-absorbed and whiny...she felt younger than her age.  And she and Mara together were mean girls, the way they thought/talked about Naomi...I was NOT impressed.  Winston was whiny and oblivious, I didn't even feel for him like I should.  And I couldn't figure out Finn or Ethan, we got no time with either of them.  Though I guess I did like Nigel, the cat.

As for the paranormal aspect, well quite frankly I didn't really learn enough about it to form an opinion.  Most of the book was about the push and pull between Mara and Theo.  Honestly, I was pretty bored.  It wasn't until 95% into the book before something really action-y happened.  Uh, that's WAY too late to get my interest.

*sigh*  I could probably elaborate, but that will bring me into meaner territory, and I try to avoid that.  Honestly, this book had quite a lot of potential.  It has a lot of the same basic setups of many of these paranormal books (girl doesn't know anything about the paranormal world, but is apparently a chosen one, falls for a bad boy), but I don't mind that.  In fact I'm often attracted to that.  I feel like the author just needed someone to tell her when she was being repetitive, both in phrases (how many times did I need to read "why does something so wrong feel so right?") and in plot points...when she had inconsistencies...when she needed to tell the reader how Mara felt about learning her whole life had been a lie, when she needed to give the reader MORE.  *sigh*

Basically, good bones, poor execution.  Needless to say, despite that killer ending, I won't be reading further.  But I will try out this author's contemporaries, perhaps I'm just pickier when it comes to my non-contemps.

This is a interesting take on the magic paranormal area. The ending is a cliffy but not a cliffy. I say this because during the book we get told something that can have you believe that what we are seeing isn’t going to happen but it may happen.

The idea here is that Mara is a chosen one enchanter who is highly coveted. She is to do great things. What no idea. That is to come I believe. She doesn’t know she is an enchanter until Theo shows up at her high school graduation and sweeps her away from her home after a party gone wrong. Once she is swept away things go sideways for her. She is chased, trying to deal with her new world and now has theo as her protector. So many things are revealed to her her mind is reeling. At times she doesn’t handle things well. She is not nice and has a attitude when she isn’t dealing but overall a good person. Theo brings out her sarcastic side. Now they are at what is a safe house for enchanters and Mara most learn about being an enchanter and quickly for the Iniquitous won’t stop looking for her. She meets some nice people and some real jerks. Most of this time to learn is about her relationship with Theo and Winston. it is her growth time. She is one that you warm up to as she grows into her own.

Theo is Mara’s protector. His powers are different and it seems may be different than other protector’s as well. He doesn’t reveal much of what he knows to Mara and this does irritate her. You can tell he doesn’t trust those around him easily. Some not at all. When you see him with his sister Adelaide and hear their tale your heart warms. He is a strong character filled with sarcasm and very confident. You can tell he is a good protector just has some cockiness in him. During this time at the safe house you watch him struggle with his feelings for Mara. Feelings he shouldn’t have but does. So because of this he runs hot and cold with Mara giving her more frustration. This to me is fun to watch because you normally don’t see such a struggle in the man and have it be so open and he is open about it.

Adelaide is Theo’s sister who he is really overprotective of. Like her brother she isn’t one that follows the rules. She becomes one of Mara’s friends and helps her navigate the world of being and enchanter. She is one I instantly liked. Her brother is another

Winston is like Mara. He is honest and nice. I love how he wants to protect Mara as well. He’s another instalike. I love how he gets Theo’s goat.

The story is unique in the twists it gives in the plot line. It is one that doesn’t give much information but does in clues so you are intrigued but also know that eventually you will find all your questions will be answered. It’s fast paced with flawed characters who are honest. You are left wondering who can be trusted like Theo had always questioned and with one clue to find the truth. A story that keeps you in the moment and wanting more.

Enchant is the first book in the Enchanted Trilogy by Micalea Smeltzer and it is a unique story of good vs evil and a girl truly coming into her own.

When we first meet Mara she is waking up from a vivid dream on the day of her high school graduation and her day only goes downhill from there. What should be a normal day for her ends up with death and her running away with a stranger who tells her shes a “Chosen One” enchanter and he’s her Protector. She’s now on the run from people who want her dead and her entire world has been turned upside down.

On their way to the safe house watching Mara and Theo bicker back and forth was hilarious and I knew we were going to have an amazing story between these two. The two of them would push each other’s boundaries and get on each-others’ nerves, but there is a bond there that can’t be explained, until we find out what exactly the Protectors duty truly is.

When the two of them get to the safe house, Theo’s protective attitude goes into full swing and things get interesting. Theo doesn’t trust anyone with Mara except for his sister Adelaide and begrudgingly Winston who is also a Chosen One, everyone else he refuses to let them close to her. Throughout the book you can see that Theo has feelings for Mara and Mara definitely has feelings for Theo, but Theo refuses to let anything come of these feelings so everything becomes complicated between them. As Mara tries to accept her new life and the powers she is just starting to come into, as well as the threat of the Iniquitous always looming, I felt horrible for her. Everything in her life has changed so quickly and the one person she trusts the most keeps throwing her for a loop.

This book definitely had some angst, and some teenage drama, but what I really enjoyed the most was watching Mara truly grow into a new person while reading this. When we first met her she was weak and didn’t really come out of her shell, but the time this book ended she was strong, and went after what she wanted. She was powerful, and strong and definitely was starting to understand who she was and was out for revenge. I hated and loved at the same time that this book ended in a cliff-hanger, and I am counting down the days till the next book comes out. Enchant was a book that I picked up on a whim as I have loved Micalea Smeltzers writing for a long time, and wanted to see what she could do with this genre, and I was pleasantly surprised. I definitely recommend picking this book up today, as I couldn’t help but fall in love with Mara’s story and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for her next!

THE BEWITCHED READER: ENCHANT (ENCHANTED #1) BY MICALEA SMELTZER

Mara Pryce is just a normal teenager, living with her widowed father and going to high school, just like it is expected from her. That is, until the day a mysterious stranger that only she sees appears in her life. She almost fools herself into thinking he was just a figment of her imagination but in a time of peril he reappears and saves her life.
The stranger is called Theodore and e proceeds to explain to her that she is an enchanter and him her protector. In the world of Wiccan magic, there are the Enchanted and the Iniquitous, forces of good and evil magic who are always at odds with each other. By discovering her true nature, Mara embarks on a journey to discover a part of the world that has always been hidden away from her.
I first approached this book with a sense that maybe it was not for me but I was proven wrong right from the first chapter. Written beautifully and fluently, this is a stunning immersing book that is a sure recipe for one to get lost amongst its pages.
Throughout the book, the reader gets to unfold a whole unseen world at the same time that the main character, Mara, starts to discover it herself. There is a magical world hidden from humans and the ones who inhabit within it try to hide it from the ones who do not belong to it. Unfortunately, the strife between light and dark forces has many of the younger Enchanted generations hidden away in safe houses in order not to get murdered, like those who are not as fortunate as being able to be protected.
This new world and its history help Mara to make some sense about her true parentage as well as to discover a new side of herself that she had never had the chance to know before. This journey brings her closer to a new family, not a traditional one, but one made up of friends who deeply love each other.
This book will build you up and its end will blow your mind. I am (not so) patiently waiting for the next instalment!

☆☆☆☆ 4.5 STARS ☆☆☆☆

Enchant is magically beautiful and will cast a spell on any reader. Mara and Theo’s story is complicated, but yet enchanting. I love the world that Author Micalea Smeltzer had created. She really shot an arrow through my heart, by creating this beautiful fantasy story that I love so much.

Mara lived a normal life as human for many years, until her almost 18th birthday gotten in the way. Her beautiful savior Theo found her and saved her from death. Their friendship started out fast and strong. Theo is cocky, smart Alec and a quiet a talker, while Mara is simple and just wanted a simple life. Her innocence and her wanting to do the right thing made me love her character. Her love for Theo kept me glued to the story and Theo’s declaration of love is what kept me oh so happy.

I am so heartbroken by the way this book has ended, wow what a cliffhanger it is. I cannot wait for book 2, I’m hoping the wait isn’t too long.

I wanted every last one of the Iniquitous to bleed out beneath me. I wanted their blood to coat my hands and stain my clothes. I wanted them to cower at my name. "

Enchant by Micalea Smeltzer, is a YA paranormal romance. Mara is a young girl not knowing the power that she wields within her. And as her birthday grows near, she is thrown into a world she never knew existed. Just as Mara is adjusting to her new life, she is in grave danger. The Iniquitous are tracking her every move, and when the time is right they will strike. War is brewing, and death is inevitable.

Theodore is Mara's protector. He is your typical silent yet deadly alpha male. He takes his job seriously, and will do what ever is necessary to protect Mara. Even if it means dying in the process. But what he least expects is to fall for the girl.

Theo and Mara's love story has just only just begun. But, be prepared... Enchant ends on a cliffy, one that will leave you in tears.

Enchant by Micalea Smeltzer was a truly magical read. It's an action packed romance that left me in goosebumps after I read the very last page. War breeds fear, and fear leads to death. No one is safe, and Mara must face drastic consequences for the choices she makes.

‘Enchant’ is a beautifully written YA paranormal romance. Though author Micalea Smeltzer makes use of some familiar YA tropes (teenage girl unknowingly about to come into her powers on her nearing birthday and is thrown into the hidden supernatural world she never knew she was born into) this book holds its own within the genre.

I love the witty banter and teasing between main character Mara and her protector, Theodore. His younger sister, Adelaide, adds to the realistic and sarcasm-laced dialog.

Theo is part charming and suave, part brooding silent type, and at all times sarcastic. His protectiveness of his sister and his charge is heartwarming, even when it leads him to be ridiculous. His serious side is intriguing, but his playful side is book-boyfriend worthy.

Mara, for her part, holds her own with witty comebacks and dedication to learning all she can about magic, supernatural beings, and preparing for the impending battle with the group that killed her parents. I found both her moral compass and willingness to do what must be done without whining to be refreshing. She was a fun character to root for!

This book ends on a cliffhanger, cannot wait to find out what happens next! ‘Enchant’ will be available from booksellers on November 17, 2017.

As this is the first book by Micalea Smeltzer that I've read I was really blown away. Immediately I looked up other books by her and purchased a few. Enchant was nothing like I expected in the best way possible. First of all I was drawn by the gorgeous cover, anyone that says covers don't sell books are lying. The synopsis is pretty vague but I'm happy for that as it didn't give anything huge away. The characters were all really interesting, the magic and safe house in the book gave it that whimsical, fantasy feel without being over the top.

Theo was your typical bad boy/alpha male protector. He was hot headed, and brooding but not at all annoying like many of the other men written like him. I loved his soft squishy side. Mara was a pretty well written heroine. Personally I think in the beginning she accepted the changes and danger around her a little too quickly but I enjoyed watching her grow and change. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone but I'm really looking forward to reading the next book because OMG that ending!

Beautiful

My mind is a mess of thoughts, suspicion, and assumptions! That ending just blew my damn mind.

The story starts with a mystery feel. Our leads, Mara and Theo, at first I wasn't so sure about them, their perceived relationship, Theo came off as over confident and a jerk without much depth and Mara a bit naive and detached. However, the more I read the more I knew I was wrong. There was more, A LOT more to both of them, and their behaviour is more about protecting themselves than anything else.

I love the uniqueness in this story. For now I'd say it's more Fantasy than Paranormal, more New Adult than YA. Smeltzer's writing always amazes me, she reels you in and soon you're in another world. The details from the writing to her cover! It all matches, clicks, and connects.

And that ending! It has left me with many, many questions and desperate for the installment, like yesterday!

I need more Theo and Mara!

This was a really interesting read. I found the plot to be quite interesting and the characters were, for the most part, intriguing and likeable. I did at times, however, find Mara to be quite annoying and angsty. Also, her attraction to Theodore tended to dominate the plot too much, at times detracting away from the story line itself and becoming quite repetitive. Despite this, I found that I couldn't put the book down; the ending was also so shocking that it left me reeling. I can't wait for the next book to see where the plot goes!

Overall, this was a really enjoyable fantasy read that just had a bit too much focus on romance for my liking.

This was a quick and satisfying book that focuses on the romance more than anything, however we do get to see some fun magic. I liked that we got to see Mara actually training and working hard. Too often in “chosen one” stories, the lead character barely lifts a finger and they’re just naturally gifted, but Mara, while still having a natural affinity, still puts effort in. I’m hoping she keeps growing and becomes a badass magical witch. And I hope we get to see some more world-building as well!

I also liked that the characters were on the older side of YA. I prefer reading stories about actual young adults and not 15 year olds.

My main complaint with the book is that the character dialogues and interactions sometimes seemed inauthentic and unrealistic. Characters reacted or responded in ways that didn’t always make sense to me, and it could also be a bit overdramatic at times.

I also heard about Theodore’s lip ring too many times.

Overall, though, this was a fun and quick read, and perfect for fans of dramatic romance in magical settings.

This was a lovely enchanter/witch romance.

Mara stringing Winston along while she loved Theo really didn't sit right with me. It's all good and dandy when he is a nice guy and took it well, but she really should have known better. I liked Adelaide and Theo, though Theo was a bit too typical a romantic hero: hot, strong, resourceful, cocky, self-sacrificial...

Poor Theo is all I can say for the cliffhanger ending... He really does take his protector job seriously.

Wow!

I can't believe that ending. That is one of the worst cliffhangers that I've ever read. Granted I really, really enjoyed reading this. But that ending!

This is mostly a fast paced book, there were a few slow moments. But this was a well rounded read. It is quite a unique take on witches/wizards.

Such a great story of a girl who thought she lived her life one way only to learn it was all a farce and she has now come to find out who she truly is meant to be. Throw in her protector and love interest and some great other characters and this book is hard to put down until you finish it.
