One morning Hattie rose to find a curious fellow sitting at her table. Returning to the bedroom she fetched a thirty eight revolver from under her pillow and put it in her pocket. Then she made coffee. Since the little guy seemed more nervous of her than she was of him she gave him a mug. He loved it. He left soon after. It was then she noticed the book. A living book full of secrets. Someone, somewhere had decided that she was the one to protect it.
Odd people started showing up around town. Her friend Norma called them the Grey Men. Hattie was a middle aged woman living alone in a small town in New Mexico. How hard could it be to scare her into surrendering the book?
