REVIEW: 3.75 stars--HOLLYWOOD SECRETS by MH Silver/Nora McKinley is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, M/M erotic romance series focusing on movie star Kip Lawrence, and stuntman Nick O’Malley. Although not part of a series, several characters from the author’s JUST ONE KISS cross over into the current story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Nick and Kip) HOLLYWOOD SECRETS follows the forbidden relationship between Hollywood leading man Kip Lawrence, and Hollywood stuntman Nick O’Malley. Kip Lawrence is a closeted bi-sexual whose preferences in partners is known only to a few. As his star is on the rise in a series of blockbuster, super hero, action movies, Kip has been warned to keep his bisexuality private fearing a backlash from the fans and the Hollywood community. Enter stuntman Nick O’Malley whose attraction to Hollywood’s golden boy is both arousing and confusing. What ensues is the building relationship between Kip and Nick, and the couple’s struggle to keep secret a relationship that is about to implode.
HOLLYWOOD SECRETS is a sexy, spicy and erotic M/M romance that focuses on the need and demands to remain closeted against the potential fall out when the truth is revealed. While Nick battles his attraction to Kip Lawrence, Kip must battle the attractions of a co-star who is looking for something more. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the romance is erotic, emotional and intense; the characters are colorful, passionate and dynamic. HOLLYWOOD SECRETS is a sensual and heartwarming story line about two people finding love against the odds.
I really enjoyed Hollywood Secrets by M.H. Siver writing as Nora McKinley. The book was well written and nicely edited. The characters were well developed, and I enjoyed the storyline and plot. Kip is a bisexual actor just starting to make the big times. Nick is a bisexual stuntman working on the same movie as Kip. Both are in the closet for different reasons, and both are scared about what will happen to their jobs if the truth were to come out. However, the attraction can't be denied, and they start a friend with benefits relationship. However, what will happen when they both develop feelings for each other. Can they handle all of the hiding that they have to do? I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
**Possible Spoilers** 3 1/2 stars This is the first I've read from these authors. The secondary characters are interesting and support the storyline. There is good character development. The environment is easily envisioned and the acting aspect is used only as background material and does not overshadow the romantic intent of the work. The book has a nice flow and is easy to read. The authors make me understand why the main characters feel and react the way they do through the first half of the book. I wasn't impressed with the immediate forgiveness in the latter pages and felt that there should have been more discussion and reserve on Nick's part. The spicy scenes were well done but I didn't feel that it and the shaky emotional connection was sufficient to sustain the HEA in the long run. In other words, if this were a real couple I would worry about them. These are personal preferences and I will read more from these authors.
Bisexual Bad@ss Superhero Gets Serious with Sexy Stunt Double
Hollywood Secrets by M.H. Silver/Nora McKinley was a refreshing read for me in the way she executed the leading man's transition from being a closeted bisexual to being open about his bisexuality. I think I was most impressed with the fact both male protagonists were clearly depicted as bisexual rather than wholly gay which seems to be a frequent misstep in M/M fiction with a gay-for-you theme to it. The implication men who enjoy being with other men can't also still enjoy being with women is as insulting to me as a queer woman as I hope it is to men who are, themselves, gay or bisexual. Every person's sexuality is unique; I really enjoyed getting to follow along with Nick as he discovered his own orientation as well as watching Kip consider how his already personally accepted sexuality will affect his public persona.
The book is very successful in depicting a relationship between two people who aren't sure what they want from each other or from a relationship or if they want a relationship with anyone at all. It's a very realistic transition from friends-with-benefits to exclusive-friends-with-benefits to committed lovers. I liked the pace of their romance. I loved seeing their relationship evolve in what appeared to be a natural way rather than a rush-to-the-finish or an instalove story. Kudos to the author for a job well-done showcasing how two people can fall in love.
In terms of hotness factor, the sex scenes were very organic. I loved the differences in the characters' preferences -Kip very much likes to go slow and steady wins the race while Nick tends to go flat out for the finish line as soon as the gun goes off- and I especially enjoyed how they were shown enjoying each other. Sex shouldn't always be perfect. Sex shouldn't always be serious. It's okay to laugh with a lover. It's okay to not have that magical moment where all partners see the light at the exact same moment. I thought there was enough sexy times to be realistic without the book being nothing more than a string of interconnected sex scenes. That's tough to do these days. Balancing erotic content with erotica seems to be a rare talent. I'm glad I got the opportunity to read M.H. Silver/Nora McKinley through the Kindle Unlimited program because the balance is perfect in this author's hands.
Overall, Hollywood Secrets ranks a solid Five-Star Read rating from me for way too many reasons to list in one review. I decided to purchase a copy of the book for my permanent collection after reading it so if you're on the fence about whether or not to pick this up? It got my money twice and I'd pay for it again if I had to because it's worth it.
Hollywood Secrets is a M/M romance story written by M.H: Silver writing as Nora McKinley. This is the first book I have read from these authors and I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked the book.
The main characters are Kip and Nick. Kip is an actor whose star is on the rise. He is good friends with his Co-star Laurie and the public seems to think they are together.. That's perfect disguise for Kip as he is pretty certain that his career is over if he ever come out.. That is until he meets Nick the stunt double for his nemesis in the film.
What I liked most in the books is the characters. Kip is such a great guy and someone who everyone would be comfortable working with and it's enjoyable to read about someone you know you would like yourself. Nick is also sweet guy and it is great how he can come to terms about his sexuality without much drama. They may start as just friends wit benefits but soon develop feelings for each other and can't keep their relationship secret anymore when pictures about them in compromising situation emerge..
I felt like the story was well written and kept me enthralled through the whole book!
I was given an ARC for an honest opinion of the book.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book because this was my first read by this author. I felt that the development of the characters was done well. I like when you can get a good sense of the characters and almost feel their emotions along with them. The struggles that Kip and Nick are relevant to learn why they are so reluctant about sharing their sexual orientation with others. I can empathize with Kip because his whole career could come crashing down, if his sexual orientation was exposed. Nick's career could fall apart as well. They will have to decide if being together or alone is what is best for them.
The sexual tension that builds up as we move along through the book keeps us wanting to find out what happens next. Kip knows he is bisexual but is Nick is continually struggling to comes to terms with liking men. It is a shame that the media has to exploit so much in the news that many lives are destroyed by their pictures and/or stories. The stories and pictures don't always relay the truth.
I recommend you read this book and follow the ups and downs of the characters. Can the characters get past the stigma that goes along with being gay or bisexual. You will have to grab a copy to find out yourself.
Hollywood stuntman Nick O'Malley has had his shared of ups and downs, the worst down was when his wife divorced him. Now he's swore off the dating scene that is until he sees him.
Kip Lawrence, Hollywood's newest leading man plays the superhero Red Mask. Playing Red Mask has made him famous but being famous really messes with his private life. He knows who and what he wants, but his manager wants him to stay in the closet. He's afraid Kip coming out as a bisexual will ruin his "leading man" status.
It was supposed to be only sex, until a picture of the two of them together surfaces on-line. Now Nick's life is under the microscope and he has to reevaluate everything. Can Nick handle his life out there for everyone to see? Will Kip "coming out" stop him from being a leading man?
I enjoyed this sweet coming out of the closet romance and give it 4 hearts. It bounces between Kip and Nick's perspective told in the third person. The writing flows and the characters mesh well. This is definitely not a book for the under 18 crowd. I will definitely be looking for more from this author. Independent review for Romance Authors That Rock
This was my first experience with this author, and I have to say I was quite impressed. The plot was interesting, the imagery vivid, and the characters complex and well thought out. Authentic and engaging, these characters completely draw you into the story and you just can't help but become invested in their lives. These two gorgeous men, both hiding who they are, find in each other the courage to live an authentic life. Their journey to love is not an easy one, but is beautiful nonetheless. It is a true joy to read. I, personally, was hooked on this story very early on and remained riveted to the very last page. This book is intriguing and insightful, romantic and enchanting, and impassioned and enthralling. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet, sexy, and compelling read.
*I was given a copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review. All opinions are my own.
This is my first MM read and what an introduction!
Relationships are difficult enough for ordinary people, add one rising Hollywood star named Kip who's bisexual and one hot stunt man who's...well, he's still discovering his sexual preference :) and we have a multi-layered story guaranteed to keep you engaged until the end.
M.H. Silver/Nora McKinley gets relationships; the feelings, emotions and what a roller coaster ride it is for these two people as they work out the challenges; are they in a relationship or is it a fling? Are they going public or keeping it under wraps? Do they even have a choice?
Would recommend to everyone -NOTE- there are explicit scenes described but tastefully done.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
I thought the story was well written. I loved the characters Kip and Nick. I love the stuntman, actor story line. Felt real at times when the author character started to explain the movie the actor was doing. Almost like a story in a story. The first kiss, shocks the heck out of both of them. Second kiss was even hotter. Author has the characters heating up the pages, must wave hand to cool down. Loved it, and look forward to reading more from the authors.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book...it was a sweet, yet sexy coming out romance. Amazing characters along with some stellar writing will hold you captured from beginning to end.
Kip and Nick have amazing chemistry and the dynamics between them while they navigate their feelings, desires and wants with those of their careers is interesting and will have you completely enamored in their story. This is one well-written, dynamic and sensual MM story.
I voluntarily received an ARC for my honest review.
I loved this so much, until the very end. Everything is getting serious and I'm thrilled that with a little work they'll get their HEA, then bam they take a break for a month, no contact at all. Then bam again, a pair of "I love you's" and the curtains close. Huh? Um, I don't get it. Did the authors think they had to get one last drama in or something? If so, I will say it was stupid and ruined the book for me. I'm still giving for stars though because the first 98 percent of the book was great. ***I decided to review an ARC of this book.***
Hollywood Secrets by M. H. Silver as Nora McKinley is a great book that keeps your interest throughout the story. I loved the characters which is very important to me. The main characters are Kip an actor and Nick a stuntman. They meet on a movie they are working on and the fun goes from there. My only complaint is that it ended a little abruptly and left me wanting to know a lot more about all the characters. Hope there is a book two coming!!!!!
I don't normally read MM stories but this one sounded interesting so I decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised.
The overall story-line is interesting and well developed. The lead characters Kip and Nick come together in a very realistic manner, their relationship is slow to build and they both deal with coming out of the closet. It was an enjoyable and interesting book.
I received an Advances Readers Copy of the e-book that I used to write this review.
These two are something else I mean the price you pay for becoming famous and especially in Hollywood there you go. Nick had a lot of soul searching to do and figuring out who he is while Kip is in the closet scared his career might be over the ups and downs of every relationship is shown and knowing that Nick and Kip and get through this shows how strong there relationship is
I really liked this story, it is well written, it talks about movie stars and Hollywood life, about first time gay and how to manage public life with privacy. I would have loved to read more about how they adjusted their blooming love story under the spotlights (the two months forward leap was too soon in the story) and I would not define the ending as a HEA but rather a HFN. Overall a nice feel good story.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I thought it was good. Both Kip and Nick were likeable characters. They were very cute together. There were challenges in their relationship but they got their HEA in the end. *I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*
My first time reading this writer’s work. I enjoyed the plot and the main characters were very likable. The book is a quick read perfect for a rainy day. I would recommend you pick this up if you looking for a cute little love story to pick up your day.
I enjoyed reading ‘Hollywood Secrets’ and thought it was a sexy, sensual, and erotic read. Kip is a budding ‘A’ list actor and Nick is a stuntman. While Kip knows he is bi-sexual, Nick is trying to understand his attraction to Kip. Nick divorced a year ago from his wife and, even though in his earlier years he had experimented with men, he saw himself as straight. I thought the way Nick and Kip’s relationship was written perfectly. As a reader, you could feel their connection, you could feel the attraction and desire they felt. I enjoyed reading about Nick’s journey of realizing what he was feeling, coming to the understanding of what he was feeling, of exploring his feelings and his sexual desires with Kip. Their journey together was one of pure pleasure and heartbreaking lows. The growth of both characters was beautifully executed. My only issue was I felt the ending was a little rushed, but that could have been me just wanting more of the story because I was so wrapped up in their sensual relationship and their journey together, both of them discovering who they truly were and what they wanted out of life and each other.
I voluntarily requested and received a copy of this book.
I received an ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review. And I loved it!
If you enjoy your love stories sweet and sexy, with two handsome sexy bi men, you'll love this one.
I enjoyd the plot development, and the interaction and chemistry between Kip and Nick was captivating. I loved how the author hightens the experience by presenting Nick's thoughts about his own sexuality. The story is intriguing, seductive and easy to read.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. Kip and Nick are desperately drawn to each other. The problem is, the both of them aren't out yet so they can't / won't be able to show up in public to not jeopardize their careers. Things get crazy when a photograph of both caught them in the act leaks public... I really liked the story of them. The writing style is easy to keep up. The development of the characters isn't that uge, but that doesn't shorten the outcome.
