Warlock at War

Rate this book
Vampires have come to Maidstone and Eddie is going to war.
The Syndicate has arrived in Maidstone. The deadly group of vampires, led by their Master, Sebastian Redvers, have spread across Kent and now they’ve got their eye on Eddie’s town. Eddie is prepared to stand aside and let them have it – until they attack his favourite pub. After defending the landlord in a bloody battle with few survivors, Eddie sets himself in Sebastian’s sights and staying out of it is no longer an option.

Sebastian is over a thousand years old and impervious to magic. Every attempt to take him down is thwarted. The Master Vampire comes after Eddie and all the people he cares about. As the casualty list grows, Eddie is forced to work with less than trustworthy people. He soon finds himself caught in the middle of a fight between The Syndicate and The Alliance of Covens and has to find a way to keep his town free of both.

Eddie Lancaster is at war, but how can one man take on two armies and prevail?

About the author

Sean Stone

Sean is a writer and reader of all kinds of books, but he particularly enjoys books with 413 pages. He lives alone in Maidstone with his cats, Molly and Klaus, in an apartment that does not allow pets. He is also quite sure that one of them is trying to kill him. It’s a good thing he’s immortal.

He works as a lab technician by day and writes rather marvelous books by night. Sometimes he writes in the day too, but those books aren’t as good.

Sean Stone is a serious man.

Warlock At War (Arcane Inc., Book 4) by Sean Stone and narrated by Hannibal Hills is the best of the series so far. It keeps getting better and better with each book. If you’re looking for a dark world with a snarky warlock, you should def give this a listen.

What’s it about? Adrian is cashing in on the favor Eddie and Ashley owe him. Unfortunately it has to do with vampire business and they find themselves fighting a war they hadn’t planned on. It’s full of action from start to finish. I enjoyed the twists, turns, and darkness. The characters are developing nicely and great world building. I have no critic for this particular book in the series- it’s a great addition.

The narrator, Hannibal Hills, does a great job. He certainly nails Eddie and helps make the book stand out.

Overall I recommend, especially if darker fantasy with magic is your thing. When I first started this series I wasn’t sure if I would continue as the first book is good, but not great and it took a little bit of warming up to Eddie/his character developing, but once that happened, I found I could not put this series down. Make sure if you start this series, you stick with it through the second book.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: this particular book has a focus on war between two groups- there’s death, animal torture (don’t worry, it ends for the better thanks to Eddie), violence, or similar things. The MC suffers from PTSD, although he doesn’t say it specifically, it’s implied (his enemy, who also raised him, killed his parents at a young age and then used him as she wanted/trained him to do bad things- no sexual abuse). Language used: F x30, S x18.

War is coming to Maidenstone!!! And the only individual with a chance of stopping it doesn't want to have anything to do with either side of the struggle. But...try as he may...Eddie Lancaster continually keeps being pulled in deeper and deeper.

Debts are called...Lies are revealed...Allies verge on betrayal...and old enemies return. The war looks to be inevitable and Eddie must make a deal that could cost him his life at best...or turn a new, even greater threat loose in return for saving his city.

Sean Stone's development as an author shows itself in each succeeding book of his stories of Eddie Lancaster and ARCANE INC. and this is a prime example as Stone crafts a well written and exciting adventure set in a world of Vampires, Sorcerers, and other magical and mystical creatures. And, his creatures have many of the standard attributes - strengths and weaknesses - of those we see in other stories of the dark side, Stone gives his creations personalities and emotions that make you feel like they could be the person next door...welllll...if the person next door was dead...and only could exist in fire...AND was a witch - and that's just one of the fun ones.

Book the 4th and the story continues....

This is the fourth book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. I’m quite enjoying these books. Each one is a standalone but listening in order will fill small gaps that would be there if listened to out of order.
The coven of witches is a part of this story but not main players. Once again Eddie does what is needed (and controversial) to deal with the current threat. Most previous characters make it into this story.

This is the eighth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Hannibal Hills ) and I would listen to anything he narrates. I love the voices he creates and his ability to bring out the emotions and personalities of the characters. He turns the books into a movie in my head. I love how he portrays Eddie.

There are no explicit sex scenes, but is mild reference to a sex act , there is not any excessive violence, but there is swearing.

As urban fantasy is my favorite genre, I am so glad I came across this series as I am quickly becoming a huge fan. Quite honestly, the series is fast becoming one of my favorite series. Eddie is a great protagonist and I love all the characters, especially his girlfriend’s mother. She makes a wonderful edition to his fighting arsenal. As always, this addition to the series was very well-written, had a great plot, and was hard to put down. One of the things I just love is when I can’t wait to see what comes next in a book, and this one is just like that. In fact, I think this is probably the best one yet; I can’t wait to see what comes next. If you like fast-paced, well-written urban fantasy, this book (and series) is definitely for you. Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed. This same review will be posted on both Goodreads and Amazon.

I received this book for free at my request but the opinion is of my own. Eddie is back and going to war. Vampires are trying to take over Maidstone and no one else dares to try to stop them. Even Clara who has a coven because of a treaty. So with his back against the wall Eddie has to stop a war from coming, to save his city, and to keep his friends safe. With the help of his great friends can Eddie find a way to stop the vampire war before it’s too late?

From the first book, Eddie was this annoying rude d**k and it was just impossible to stop reading about him! He always found a way to insult everyone yet to be a hero in the end.. This story was different, good but felt rushed, felt sad.. I would like more of his charming(haha) persona, would like more of magic. I couldn't put the story down,it was flawless and I wish there was more

Audiobook review: Warlock At War is book 4 in the Arcane, Inc. The book picks up where book 3 ends but this time the vampire syndicate is in town and all hell breaks loose. The story is entertaining and interesting. The snark is funny. The narrator did a nice job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Another enjoyable book in the series as the shit hit the fan. Good story, good narration, just a fun and easy story to read. I love the breaking of the 4th wall and the narrator talking to the reader. Those kinds of books are always good when done well.

Really worth reading.
Kept my hooked from page one.
Yes this book is slightly darker in places than the previous books but it needs to be to get across the severity of the situation.
I look forward to a lot more books from Sean Stone.

Getting better each time

Getting into his stride now, Eddie is doing the right (wrong)thing and being sneaky with it. Now looking forward to the next one and more of Boris, long live the king!

Disappointing sequel.

It felt as this had been written in haste, missing the more interesting character development I enjoyed in earlier books.

I liked the basic story but the grammar was atrocious. "...you was..." for example. Really? Characters were referred to by the incorrect names. Annoying!

Format: audiobook
Narrator: Hannibal Hills

With each book I read in this series the better it gets.
Try as Eddie might he just can’t avoid being drawn into the fight, the problem is, our sarky warlock is extremely powerful and he may be the only one who can stop a vampire collective from taking over his patch so when a favour is called in Eddie find out exactly what he’s prepared to sacrifice for those he loves!
A fast pace gripping instalment that leaves you reaching for the next book.
The portrayal of Eddie by this narrator is spot in for me, I’m definitely going to check out what else he has done.
