How Come I'm Always Luigi?: A FoxTrot Collection

Rate this book

In 1988, a comic strip burst onto the funny pages of America's newspapers with attitude, wit, and a big dose of reality when it comes to family dynamics.

Today, FoxTrot is one of the most popular and lauded strips around.

How Come I'm Always Luigi? is the latest saga of the slightly off-center Fox family, parents Roger and Andy, teenagers Peter and Paige, 10-year-old brainiac Jason, and pet iguana Quincy. This new collection of cartoons continues their mishaps and misadventures as they battle with school, work, video games, and of course, each other.

Anyone who's ever experienced the trying turmoil of family life will relish this latest collection of FoxTrot¿a strip that inspires laughs and instant identification like few others.

How Come I'm Always Luigi?: A Foxtrot Collection by Bill Amend (Andrews McMeel Publishers 2006)(791.5973) is another thin collection which is contained in a larger collection that I've already read. My rating: 7/10, finished 11/6/11.

Some very welcome light relief after reading 400 pages about the taking of Berlin in 1945.

Forever a favorite - this one has a lot of the Fox Trot classic jokes my family and I quote in this one, e.g. The Humbler.

Perhaps my favorite FoxTrot collection so far, and that's saying a lot. Jason and Marcus are my favorite characters, and the humor of this collection was just plain awesome. A must-have for anyone who considers themselves remotely geeky. Even the non-geeks will like it too! It's full of references to popular culture and will make you chuckle.

This is the second Bill Amend work that I have read [the first one being: Orlando Bloom Has Ruined everything, and both books were a birthday present from my friend]. I must say that I love this as well! I love Amend's works because it makes me laugh/smile. I particularly liked Jason's de-nerdification process, lol. I also thought that the title of the book is funny, and brilliant. ^_^

Bill Amend is a great comic strip creator! His work is filled with ordinary family life and that's what makes it so great. Daily sibling rivalry, marriage obsticles, and family life is just some of the themes that he portrays in his work. A great laugh for anyone to enjoy.

What happens when Andy sends Jason and his friend Marcus out to play in the snow? Snow video games, that's what. Roger learns to play internet poker in another episode of this collection of cartoons.

Because everyone every once in a while needs to burst out giggling at day to day idiocies, I think this book is great. Embrace the comics, people. :)

I rarely read cartoons now that I get most of my news online instead of from a print newspaper. This was a fun read.

Continuing our recent fascination with all things Foxtrot, we all zipped through this early anthology of the popular comic strip by Bill Amend.

I really enjoy this comic strip, but after reading several different anthologies, the jokes are starting to feel a bit worn out. Still, I really enjoyed seeing older versions of the characters. Like my beloved Garfield strip from my childhood, it's interesting to see how the artist's drawing style changes over time.

Since the book features strips from about more than two decades ago, quite a bit of the pop culture references are very dated, and our girls didn't get all of them. And I had to really laugh at the technology (computers, phones, VHS videos (and movie rental stores!), etc.), since it's so ancient, yet I remember what life was like back then.

On the whole, it's an entertaining book with many witty observations about family life in America. I loved Bill Watterson's foreward, especially his commentary on the sincerity of this strip and its humorous and truthful observations of human nature. We all enjoyed reading it.
