The crew of the Earth ship Behemoth has been busy. Their latest assignment against the Orion’s Light terrorists has given them valuable insight into the workings of this new threat and boosted their already substantial credibility with Alliance High Command. Returning to discover when they might participate in the invasion of their true enemy’s home world, they find themselves brought into the shadowy world of Alliance Intelligence.

Captain Atwell and his ship are directed to the Novalat system where a civil war rages. Their primary mission is to help settle the conflict so their allies can join in the real fight to come but secondarily, they are looking for signs of an intelligence officer who has failed to send word back to his superiors. Even with the secretive part, the mission seems fairly straightforward until they arrive and find the real hand behind the chaos raging throughout the region.

This seems to be a short book. It’s also a straight-forward mission for the Behemoth, Earth’s spectacular solar defense vessel now part of the Alliance. On detached duty to the Alliance High Command, Captain Gray Atwell and his Kielan advisor, Clea An’Tufal, are summons to meet with the Alliance Intelligence Directorate. Obviously, this summons didn’t come direct, but in the form of an appointment at a particular flower shop in the capital city. There they eventually found the deep underground location of the Alliance Intelligence Directorate and were given their next mission. They were to go to a specific planet which had be an ally of the Alliance, but had stopped providing forces due to it’s current civil war. Captain Atwell’s mission is to stop the civil war and get the ally to re-commit to the Alliance so they could have them in the coming fight with the real enemy, the Devarans.

While they were there, they were to try and contact a spy for the Alliance who was trying to infiltrate Orion’s Light, a terrorist group causing all sorts of trouble for the Alliance. It was not know if the spy was even still alive or if he was even on the target planet, but they needed to some how make contact with him or confirm his demise.

So, off the Behemoth goes. One thing about traveling at greater than light speed, it doesn’t take long to get where you’re going. They arrive in the Novalat System only to find the orbital space station under heavy attack as is the planet. He contacts the Novalat Command only to find them heavily engaged and willing to accept any help they can get in space and on the ground. Captain Atwell also comms the rebel starship and asks they to stand-down so they can talk about their grievances. The rebel commander refuses saying their benefactor wouldn’t allow them to do that.

Now things take a turn for the worse. It seems that the rebels have aligned with the Orion’s Light not really know how terrible they really are. The Orion’s Light now shows up and begins landing troops on the planet. Their purpose in space and on the planet are to destroy as much as possible causing chaos and terror in the section of the Alliance. Captain Atwell and the Behemoth must stop them dead.

Good, short story or so it seems. Usually I read a book that has a couple of minor missions and then the major mission comes along and that finishes the book. In this one, there’s really no minor missions. They report, get told what to accomplish and set off to do that. The only ringer in this story is that they do not know the Orion’s Light is involved in the civil war. That slight oversight by the Alliance Intelligence community almost costs the Alliance the destruction of the Behemoth.

3.5/5

Finally, something that amounts to world building, 7 books in an we Finally have a name for what have been called the 'Enemy' throughout the series. We catch a glimpse of how the war between the Alliance and the Enemy started. Which I actually found a bit interesting.

I still have not seen anything that looks like character development in this series still. All the characters still feel the same as they did since the start.

There are yet again a number of spelling/grammatical errors throughout the book.

And funnily enough the characters even talk about how they haven't been involved in the war against the 'enemy' and are relegated to doing missions off the beaten path. I find this hilarious seeming as this is one of my main criticisms of this series.

Other than that, as the tittle suggests they are tasked with putting down a rebellion. Overall I found the combat lacking/stale, as it's all just explained in the same way since the beginning of the series. And overall the plot is just lacking. We find out 'Orions Light' is involved and help start the rebellion and planned to destroy the planet but they are easily stopped.

I love this series, I have read all seven books plus the prequel

I enjoyed the series because as it progresses the behemoth changes it becomes more technologically advanced, this is what I want to see in a science-fiction book. I like the fact that the technology changes, the characters grow and develop, any action is fast-paced. The thing I would like to see next is more character development between the main characters in the series. I like the fact that the ship isn't a beat up old ship that is on the verge of being retired and going into the graveyard. This is a like fresh air to me, most books that you read in sci-fi have an old beat up derelict ship that has to fight its way through insurmountable odds, that's getting kind of old. I recommend this book to all those who like a fast-paced, action-packed, modern ship that gets better technology as the series progresses I will continue to read The series, keep them coming.

Another great book

Again yet another great read, the Behemoth and her crew find themselves in the thick of a battle they didn't expect. The Orion light are behind issues both on the planet and its space station. Looking forward to the next book.

Well written survive despite the odds

The story continues with the ragtag feathers doing a great job despite all that is thrown against them. Will they win or will they all just die the story continues, hopefully notforever

Too many errors

The number of grammar errors and simple typographical mistakes hasn't gotten better as the books go on. One usage keeps occurring "a contingency of troops" should be a contingent.

Edge of your seat stuff!

Hard to put down. Full of action. I have a hard time believing the military would always send just enough to maybe get the job done but it does make for exciting read.

Another plot foiled

This series keeps on plugging away. One after another the assignments have revealed something that only will be answered when you reach the end.

Action packed!

This book is near 90% action! Space war with non-stop fighting, ground warfare between marines and enemy forces, and the single pilot space fighters battling enemy fighters! This series gets better with each book in the series!

Major battles

Complex. Good characters progression. Interesting characters. Much. Action enough to keep the reader occupied. A very good and enjoyable read.
