Apparition Lake: O Espectro do Lago

Rate this book

There seems to be a consensus among writers that penning a bio is one of the most difficult tasks assigned. I find that amusing since I’ve yet to meet a writer who didn’t enjoy talking about themselves or their work! Personally, I recognize the size of my ego and have no trouble in this regard.

Your purpose in reading this probably involves a desire to see who I am, what experience I have – in life and in writing – as well as to decide whether my writing is worth your hard-earned dollars and the time you might invest to read my work. A little curiosity or undisclosed voyeurism may also have a hand. Whatever your reason for stopping, I offer a small taste of Dan the writer and Dan the human.

I’ve always used the written word. From high school love letters to corporate legal documents, I’m experienced in a wide variety of styles and genres. Some of my stuff has been much more successful than others, and just for the record, I'm very happily married!

A famous writer once said that if you are paid for what you write and you use the check to pay a bill, you are officially a professional writer. I fall within that category. I’ve been blessed insofar as payment has been received for over 350 magazine articles in more than 40 state, regional, and national publications.

My work has also been found in the business and corporate world, in newspapers, and on a variety of websites on the Internet. There are also four books that currently bear my name with more on the way. In case you’re wondering, I will still pen a letter of affection to my wife on occasion though I’ve never received a penny for any of these.

I lived for the better part of 30 years in the northwest corner of Wyoming with easy access to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, as well as millions of acres of open and uninhabited playgrounds officially recognized as National Forests. I spent my leisure time hunting all manner of big, trophy and small game both there and in other states around the country when time has permitted.

I thoroughly enjoy fishing, both with spinning tackle and with fly fishing gear, and have had the great pleasure of terrorizing many piscatorial species around the country. In my estimation, few things are as satisfying as a slab-sided crappie deep-fried in beer batter, unless that would be elk roast surrounded by mashed potatoes and gravy! Eating from Ma Nature’s menu makes me happy, healthy, and terrific!

I love to hike and camp and spend as much time as possible taking folks along who want to learn about our outdoor environments and the creatures who call them home. Any manner in which I can simply enjoy the blessings of untamed country finds a way to sneak into my itinerary.

I also spend a great deal of time with camera in hand, capturing landscapes and the wildlife that live on them. Additionally, I film outdoor activities and have an extensive library of images dealing with habitat management and environmental issues. I’ve been fortunate to have sold hundreds of images for publication as well as prints through galleries - for those who like to take home a tiny piece of the glory I find in our wild lands and wildlife.

I believe that communication and understanding are the things which truly separate us from the other critters on this planet. My writing and photography offer me a way in which to communicate the highlights of my life to those around me who may not otherwise have an opportunity to enjoy our outdoor world.

Thank you for taking the time to investigate who I am. By all means, feel free to follow me on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. I am always interested in feedback and good old-fashioned fellowship.

Until we meet again…
