This book always makes me so happy.

------------------------------------

My favorite of the series for sure.

I’m almost never a fan of second chance stories. But I’ve read about River and Cole meeting, falling in love, and eventually breaking up for several books now. I couldn’t wait for them to figure out they needed each other and wanted them to get back together. And that’s why this book was a huge hit for me.

River is Skye’s brother and we saw him falling in love with Cole in Skye Blue. But then in The Distance they broke up. It is now a year later and River is still not over Cole. His catering business is doing well, and he couldn’t be happier with all the friends and family he has. But he still feels empty.

When River is catering a wedding for 2 friends of his, he is not expecting to see Cole. Apparently he is there for the weekend as well.

River knows Cole was hurt too with the way things ended between them, but he hopes Cole still has feelings for him.

As soon as River gets Cole alone for a moment he blurts out he still loves Cole and would Cole please give him another chance. Cole is hesitant at first, but finally admits he never stopped loving River…

I love how sweet the books in this series are. River and Cole belonged together and I was happy to see they did everything in their power to make it work this time.

But besides the romance there was someone who made this book super fun, and that was River’s roommate Quinn. Quinn is one of the most awesome characters I’ve read in a while.

“Um, River, you know there’s a huge wet mark on the back of your jeans, right? I mean, it’s probably the least of your worries right now, but….”
“Yeah, that’s anal lube,” I told him. “Quinn had the brilliant idea of applying it to my neck to help remove the bird cage. That resulted both in the lube sliding down my back, and in him getting his hands stuck in here with me.”
Finn grinned and said, “That makes sense, in an odd sort of way. But I can’t figure out why Quinn’s wearing safety goggles, galoshes, hot pink briefs, and matching body glitter.”
“That’s just Quinn being Quinn,” I said, and my roommate smiled at me as if I’d paid him a tremendous compliment.
“And the pizza pan?” Finn asked. “What’s that doing for you?”
“That’s a boner shield,” Quinn explained. “For the record, Darth Maul is standing at ease now, but I guess River doesn’t want to take any chances.”

This book was so much fun!

Single POV, very sweet, second chance romance, with very little angst, some humor, some hurt/comfort, all the zany characters we know and love, and a very happy ending.

I'm very interested to see how Quinn and Duke's story pans out. I'm sure it'll be very sweet as all the other stories are in this series, but two so diametrically opposed personalities? That's going to be a hoot.

*** We open with Nana and her crazy antics, while filming her cooking show.
Our story this time is all about a second chance romance with River, 27, and Cole, 20s.
It is heartwarming, funny, and tragic, and we enjoy the flow.
River's makeover...

Our guys broke up; now a year later, they still want each other, but are afraid to make the same mistakes. Of course that knowledge gives them the power to change things.
Cole
The wild, loving family is on display, and the upcoming wedding is being catered by River. Cole ends up helping out.
With long talks, hot sex, and deep thoughts, we see River and Cole connecting once again.

Lots is going on, with snooty guests, a fight, and a change of plans.
Later, back home, River is given an opportunity he never thought he'd get, and he and Cole are solid. A death rocks Cole's family and brings turmoil, but the men rely on each other.

This is well written by Alexa Land and continues the flow of the family; of how they move onward, and pay it forward at every turn. I am looking forward to the next story.
Highly recommend ! ENJOY !

Alexa Land’s stories, even when it’s my first time reading them, are comfort reads for me. There is something about her writing that lulls me in and keeps me reading until the end, usually with a big smile on my face. This is River and Cole’s book. They’ve been on the sidelines having a difficult time and I know a lot of fans like me have been waiting for their story.

I love second chance romance, especially when someone really has to work at getting back the one they let go. Here, I expected there to be a bit more of a fight for River and Cole to get back to where they were since what little we saw of their parting in previous books seemed so antagonistic. To that end, I was a bit disappointed, but their love story still worked for me. What I got was two men who realize they were both responsible for the end of their relationship and dealt with it like adults. They never stopped loving each other and wanted nothing more than to fix what was broken, taking what they learned in their year apart and devoting themselves to making things work.

This story was really a quiet, gentle romance. Even though Cole and River were already in love, there was so much they never learned about or shared with each other; it was almost like they were starting from scratch in some ways. River sets out to woo Cole, sappy pronouncements and all. It was nice to watch them really work at things, learn to communicate and in the process become the men they had been holding themselves back from being.

There isn’t angst between the men, but there is drama when Cole has to face his past as he returns to the hometown both he and Hunter ran from. There is a taste of what they went through, from both family and their neighbors, but they manage to come out ahead with some help from the men in their lives.

As usual, past characters drop in and I was beyond thrilled to see Dmitri and Jamie back. There are also several new secondary characters introduced and plenty of humor, something Alexa Land excels at writing, especially from River’s incredibly lovable roommate Quinn (who I am praying ends up in an odd couple story with Cole’s uptight roommate Duke). There are wedding guests from hell, a demon cat in a tuxedo, men in rompers and lots of glitter. Nana’s role is smaller but she still manages to make a scene, filming an episode of her cooking show – good thing it was on firehouse cooking – and doing anything she can to help out her boys.

Although I was hoping for a bit more in the angst department this was a fine second-chance romance with a happy ending that was just perfect for them. I would say that other than being confused by cameos from other characters, this is definitely one book in the series that would work very well as a standalone. Both Cole and River have been around for a while, but they were mostly background players and their story plays out in full here so if you’ve been wondering where you can jump in without being lost, here’s a place to do it.

I usually love the books of this series! Because I love the characters (Nanna & Ollie excluded) & I want to read about them. But this time, as excited as I was when I started reading, I kinda got bored after a while.
I kinda felt like the dialogues were more cliche like. "Let's donate everything ", "let's be kind & adopt some boys", "let's declare our love for each other in silly ways".
I'm not saying any of that is bad, I'm saying the way they're being told is too showy, too I-wanna-teach-you-to-be-kind-&-good ....

Maybe it's just me.

& I was happy to read less Nanna-craziness this time.

Let's see what happens to Quinn next! & I can't wait to read about Mike & Yoshi!!!!!!!

REVIEWED FOR LOVE BYTES

I first came across the Firsts and Forever series back in 2013 when I fell for Jamie and Dmitri and was instantly hooked. After initially devouring the first three books I have reviewed all the books since Gathering Storm (book 4) and having just finished book fourteen I still don’t think I have had my fill from this crazy family.

Each book is written as a standalone and you could certainly just pick one up at any point in the series and read about a new couple but if you did that you would miss so much. There is a history to this series that Alexa has crafted – there is laughter and tears, there are good times and bad and there are links, sometimes subtle, that entwine this huge and crazy group of people to each other.

All I Ever Wanted is Cole and River’s story. Neither of these characters are new if you are familiar with the series but they had a sad and messy break up and have been without each other for the last year, yet neither man has moved on. This story was about repairing what they had broken. There wasn’t as much angst as I expected as both men are still crazy in love with each other, in fact this is quite a gentle story, a real romance without a lot of the shenanigans we often see from a certain senior citizen. It felt different from the previous books, there was still humour and some laugh out loud moments but there was more depth and more time spent on Cole and River. Both men have grown up in the last twelve months and they weren’t afraid to talk out their mistakes and this really helped when Cole had to deal with grief and a surprise that could have sent him spiralling.

This was a great second chance romance and as always we got to spend time with the rest of the Dombruso clan and friends. I highly recommend this entire series and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I have to say i was extremely looking forward to this book. I couldnt wait to read River and Cole's story of getting back together. And perhaps that is also the reason why for me it fell a bit flat.
I cannot even explain what exactly but I had just expected much more of this one. The way they gotten back together the way it processed like i said fell flat for me personally.
I am a huge fan of this series and am already waiting for the next one to come. And this book definitely is worth the read and as a huge bonus had me laughing so hard at times which also is one of the reasons why i still rate it 4 stars. I love all characters in this huge family of blood and choice and will be in line for the next one

Cole and River together again.

It’s hard to ever find much wrong with the books in this series. Always funny and fun, sweet and a little sappy but quite joyful to read. Hope and family are huge themes along with characters that seem like almost too nice. Cole and River have been around for quite awhile and finally they get back together. As always, there are adventures and incidents along the way with just a few hints of heartbreak and pathos. Another breath of fresh air among the more typical gay romance fare.

This is a big winner with me. There were some big laughs in this book but the real gold was the slow growth in the relationship between the MCs and the interactions with all the past characters. Aleaxa Land stayed on point and kept her focus. I enjoyed watching Darwin, a secondary character weave in and out throughout this series.

With a whole lot of heart, a hilarious smidgen of humour, a touch of Nana's antics and the love of two men who lost their way find a path back to one another.

Cole and River have always been perfect for each other and readers of the Firsts and Forever series have been waiting for this story for some time. Alexa brings these two men back together in a way that doesn't negate what happened in the past and instead reflects on their growth as individuals and then, as their romance rekindles, together.

I loved this story. It's not just a great addition to the F&F family, it's a great story in its own right.

I love this series!

I look forward to every new book in this series. Alexa Land never fails to deliver. Every single book is unique, and most definitely not the same recycled plot lines and formulas regurgitated over and over. This book was hilarious, and touching, and sad, and joyous and every single emotion in between. Cole and River are wonderful characters. We've known them for a while, but not really KNOWN them. I'm so glad they got their second chance. And I adored the new character Quinn. I can't wait to see what life has in store for him.

Nana and the humor are back

One of the reasons I am a faithful reader of this series is Nana and the humor. The last couple of books lacked that. The heavy contents of these books is always balanced by so much laughter. I love the craziness of the stuff all the guys and Nana get into. I laugh so hard, tears run down my face. This is a unique and awesome series.

What can I say?!

This series is one of my absolute favorites. It has always made me extremely happy, I have never, not once, been disappointed or disliked even one paragraph of one of her books. She is consistently one of the ghostwriters in the genre. These two guys deserved a perfect HEA and they got it. Love, love, loved it.

Another Hit

I've never met an Alexa Land book I didn't like. Each time I read one of her books I think - this is the time I'll be disappointed - and it never happens. Sure there are some stories I like better than others but each read always leaves me dying to get my hands on the next book!

Like so much of her other work this book made me laugh out loud and tear up. I love that you get a breadth of emotion in her writing. I was SO happy to see Cole get his HEA. And I have to say I also love the diversity of characters. That doesn't only include ethnic and cultural diversity though I so appreciate that too - but it includes characters with different gender identities, different kinks, different personality types.

In addition the book is just damn good! I loved seeing Cole and River work through their challenges and fight for their love. I loved how developed Cole was - all the background you get on him explains so much and makes me so sad. The tension with his mom was an unexpected turn that worked really well.

I also love the way that Land weaves in new characters and reintroduces old characters. Some authors do this and it's overwhelming but in this series it's always like visiting old friends to me and I love it! I also loved loved loved Quinn! He had me dying reading this in the subway. The scene where they try to give the Hell Cat medicine - HILARIOUS! The wine grape incident - awesome. I love how Land paces her books and breaks up the sad bits with laugh out loud humor. I'm totally shipping Duke and Quinn and I can't wait until Quinn covers Duke's world in glitter - the man needs it!

Anyway - thanks for another amazing binge read (cause that's the ONLY way I read your books!) can't wait to see what happens next with sweet Quinn.

This was okay. I liked aspects of it (like the wedding and the drama around that), but other things really bugged me.

Land is creative, no doubt, but I think I've grown tired with being hit over the head with her perspective. (It's clear I'm in the minority here -- and that's okay. I'm glad other readers are connecting better.)

Another great add to the series. We met these two characters early on in the series, and right off the bat they got together. I was sad because I wanted to see these two get their own book and just assumed they would be in the background going forward. Call me shocked when they broke up and they finally get their second chance and book. This was a amazing story and so heartfelt. You weren't on one persons side as apposed to the other (which can happen when people break up), you wanted both of them to grow and learn from their mistakes. Story line flowed well and felt natural that they got back together. I was all smiles! Definitely surprised me with this one and liking it as much as I did. Can't wait for the next.

Every book in this series is amazing and this is no different. When River and Cole got together as secondary characters and then broke up, I was a little heartbroken and I knew that I would need the author to write them each a story in order for me to be happy. Instead she gave them a second chance at love and that is one of my favorite tropes. I was definitely with this book. Nana was hilarious. And Quinn, River's roommate might give Nana a run for her money when it comes to crazy funny antics. Can't wait to read his story. Definitely recommend.

Wasn't my favorite of the series. Second-chance romance isn't my thing and River was never my favorite character. Ir was good to see his growth, though. I appreciate the relative low-angst. I suppose the drama is what I dislike most about the second-chance trope so it was nice to not see that happen here. That said, I felt like they harped on things more than necessary when they started talking in the beginning. Anyway, it was a cute story. Pleased to see more of Ash (I read his book way before this because I didn't realize it was a spin-off series at the time).

I was so excited when I read the blurb for this book. I love second chances, especially these guys, I was devastated when they broke up in an earlier book, and they were apart for a while, I hated it. So it was so good to read their second chance romance and it was really well done. It was also good to catch up with most of the couples from previous books. Bring on Quinn's book, I love him.

Wonderful and funny

Alexa Land put together yet another book that made me laugh, made me cry, and smile over true love and family. Nana Dambrusco is amazing as always, and I'd read this series just to find out what she's up to next. Throw in hot men in love, hot sex and a cast ofvamazing and quirky characters and you a gem of a book. I highly recommend this book and series.

Another great addition...

This book is another great addition to this series. I'm so happy River and Cole get another chance. They make such a great couple. This book gives us a glimpse of several members of the crew and it certainly doesn't disappoint. As much as I love this couple, I'm blown away by Quinn. I kind of want to adopt him... okay, I really want to adopt him. I can't wait for his book which is next.
