The bestselling, pulse-pounding Origin series returns with Torment, an electrifying new tale that dives into the underbelly of New City. In the ravaged future when goodwill is vital, trickery and vice lurk in the darkest corners.
Megan Marshall is well acquainted with torment. Her father’s sick ‘experiments’ on his only daughter wrecked any sense of normalcy she ever dreamt of. Her life is one trial after another to stay ahead of him—and his mind games.
Enter Rune Mason… He’s a wicked, playful beast. But don’t judge him. He enjoys his carnal pleasures and bloody battles, with equal delight. The day he meets the sassy Megan Marshall, he knows his world’s screwed—in the best way.
He wants her. He’ll do anything to have her. Including taking on her father whose never been beaten at his own games.
Rune has always loved a challenge. Megan has too. She won’t be won over that easily.
New York Times bestselling author and award-winner, Scarlett Dawn, is the mastermind behind the Forever Evermore fantasy series, the Origin paranormal dystopian stories, the Vampire Crown paranormal romance thrillers, the Mark science fantasy saga, and the Lion Security contemporary romance series.
She lives in the Midwest, adores her music loud, and demands her fries covered in melted cheese.
I honestly cannot believe that . And these books are way too short, which means the romances don't have much time to develop. I don't mind waiting a little longer for a book as long as it's fully fleshed out! I'm all for insta-love and mates, but I need a little something more than the bare bones of that. I'll keep reading though, if only because the one redeeming part of this series is Theron and his pizza delivery girl (whose story I'm praying will be a full-sized novel).
**Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**
Firstly, this series is amazing! I love how strong the women are, which they need to be to keep up with their shapeshifter mates. I really enjoyed finding out more about Megan, and absolutely loved her chemistry and banter with Rune. So many books have the ‘playboy’ who hasn’t been in a relationship before as he hasn’t found the right person, and when he does he instantly seems to be a wonderful thoughtful partner who knows all the right things to say and do. Neither Megan nor Rune have really been in serious relationships before, and it was very refreshing to see them both flounder a little while trying to navigate their relationship. I also loved that we got to see a glimpse of the kickass Poppy from the first book. Really looking forward to the rest of this series, and seeing God’s friends fall for amazing women. Hoping Cass finds someone too!
I love Scarlett Dawn! But I had some difficulties with the previous book I don't do well with saying goodbye to characters I love. I had the same problem with this book BUT the emotions were so strong here, I had to cry on several occasions. As sad as some parts were there was as much joy in it. The main couple here was made for each other and I feel for the shor amount of pages we got to know them well.
Mrs. Dawn was nice enough to give me an ARC of this book, and I absolutely love it, of course. Anything this woman writes is amazing.
The chemistry between the 2 main characters are on point, and their relationship in general is hilarious. There was a great mix of humor, sass, sadness, and everything else in between. So far, I would have to say this one is my favorite of the Origin series! Keep it up!!
Scarlett Dawn, you did it again. These books just keep getting better and better. This book was emotional but well worth it. The characters were amazing and persevered through their problems together. The only down side was that some of my favorite characters didn't show up in this book. This book is definitely a must read. I can't wait for more of her amazing stories.
This series continues to have an unpredictable overall arc. The romance in this book wasn't overly exciting although To be clear I do like Rune & his mate. They make an unconventional romance work for them. However, I felt this was a bridge or an in-between book it didn't feel like a detail-oriented story. Even taking out the big bad in the h's life felt more like a highlight reel vs a story. I don't want high level when getting to know a h/H. Bc It was so superficial I give it 2.5 stars
This book was even better than the last one in this series. I just have to say shame on you Scarlett Dawn for making me ugly cry. That being said, I really enjoyed the main couple. The girl is sassy, strong and funny. The man is hot with a capitol H. I can't wait to read the next book!
The action in this book started right away and kept on going throughout the whole book. I enjoyed every word and I'm anticipating the next time installment. I love the characters and how the relationship developed with Megan and Rune. I especially loved the progression of Theron and his protection of the pizza girl. I can't wait to find out what happens with Cass and Poppy.
Torment is the third book in the Origin series, and it is safe to say it is my favourite in the series thus far. I’ve enjoyed all three books, and I’m super excited for the rest of the series, yet Torment gripped me hard from the very first page.
Trigger introduced us to the Origin world, and I found myself really enjoying the characters. Transcend gave us an unexpected twist, leaving us unsure of where things would go next. Torment, gave us both of those things. The couple in Torment are, without a doubt, my favourite thus far, and I have no idea how this series is going to come together – in the best way possible, of course.
The very first page had me falling in love with our female lead in this one, her internal monologue a truly amazing thing to experience. There was such sass, and I was so pleased to see it occurred both inside her mind and when she was speaking to people. It made her an easy to love character, someone you enjoy instantly. When our male lead walked in and played off her so well, I couldn’t help but smile. Without a doubt, the two go together so well. I let out so much laughter at the things that occurred, at the way they played off each other. The relationship between the two played out in a different way to the relationships in the prior books, yet I found the changes to be very fitting for the characters. Honestly, the future books are going to need to work hard to top this couple.
Whilst most of the book did focus upon the relationship – I’ve said in prior reviews that this series focuses more upon the romantic elements than the action of the supernatural world – there was another twist thrown in. Following on from the last book, the event that occurred in this book has left me completely unsure as to how the series is going to play out. I have many ideas, yet I’m clueless as to what will occur. I’m hoping the next couple of books will really start to focus upon that element of the story, as I’m intrigued to see how everything is going to come together.
I’m also really loving the side story that is occurring with Theron and the pizza girl. I’m hoping it will play out the same way the story of Gem and Ky played out in Larissa Ione’s Demonica series – we’ll get to see snippets of their story throughout all of the books, even if they do not get a book of their own, allowing us to see how things develop there.
Overall, I loved this one. As I said, it’s my favourite in the series thus far and I’m super excited to see what Trick brings to the table!
Torment continues this series with Scarlett Dawn's wonderful world building and amazingly unique characters. Rune and Megan are quirky, fun characters with not so pleasant pasts. The chemistry between them was believable. I loved all their banter. Overall this book was heartbreaking and humorous. I absolutely loved every bit of it!
This author weaves a crazy web full of twists and turns, and while you may think you know what's going on, something will happen that changes the course of everything. You may hope for a different outcome but when that fails you will be halfway through a box of tissues. Poppy was a really cool character in the first book, so I'm a little disappointed in her to be honest, but she may be coming back to herself a bit of that ending says anything. Cassander is mine!! I'm dying to get my hands on his book and I'm sure she's saving it for last. Horrible woman lol. Rune and Megan were hot off the charts from chapter one then the rest was history as they say lol. We have got to catch this bad guy!! He is ruining everything! I'm leading the mob so grab your pitchforks!! I am anxious to see what's next! BTW Theron and pizza girl....yeah that's gonna be something fun and hot I just know it!
I mean REALLY? Scarlett, you just ripped my heart out?!? I mean it's frickin' amazingly well done but still... My heart... Send help...
The character are so well written to be likeable and real and yet completely mysterious and animalistic. I'd love to read more about the animal selves interacting with the females...
The guys, I'm loving them more and more... They are all just so frickin' adorable (I know I've said this in each review for the previous books but it still holds true).
The ladies as well so strong and not to be pushed around nor to be messed with... *high fives all round*
I am loving this series and I'm kind of banking on all the guys getting their girls. I really need to read about the guys more and how they are all completely alike and yet completely different in the way they act with their mates. Treat them and interact with each other.
I totally loved how the MC's acted totally natural. They aren't perfect and it's noted by each of them. There was the instant attraction (obviously) but no insta-love which is refreshing as with all the books. But the whole not being ready... And suddenly she was... Its a little rushed but the timing seems a little skewed... I'm not actually sure how long this books is supposed to last, time wise...
Also... The 'Game' just what the actual F?!? That was insanely hard to read and my heart bleeds for Poppy
Note to the author: Scarlett please don't kill me more... I'd like to live to read more books... Pretty please don't rip out my heart again :(

This book is by far my favorite in the series. I think it has a lot to do with the humor between the main characters.
Something drastic happened last book. I thought Ms. Dawn was messing with the readers. I just knew some miracle or mind blowing event was going to happen and the event that happened would be reversed.....
It never happened, but that just makes this book even better. This series gets better and better as we move along.
Ugh. This book. This series. Ugh in a good way. And Scarlett Dawn --- how could you??? I'm not mad btw. I super enjoyed this book --- the MC's are fantastic. And I'm super enjoying this series. Even if this book made me ugly cry. Dammit. Hahahaha.
This book follows Rune and Megan, and omg I loved them so much. Megan was just so real, everything about them and their relationship was just real and it was wonderful. I feel like a lot of paranormal or shifter books have this whole "meet, lust, sex, bond" thing and there is absolutely no chemistry or build up. These two definitely lusted at first sight and just got it on. It brought me back to Poppy and Godric. Megan was left in the dark about Runes world, on her own decision. Rune did not pressure her, he was possessive, but he definitely didn't up end her life and make her move in and cage her. They built an awesome relationship, and they are both probably my 2 favorite characters now. They're both funny and creative and are both afraid of commitment. They are figuring out their relationship as they go. I think Megan reminds me of my myself and that's why I loved her. On another note... poor Godric. **Spoiler** ** I hope he somehow comes back. I absolutely loved him and fell so hard for him and Poppy in the first book. Between those two characters my heart is absolutely broken!! I feel like the scene with the ashes and everyone and him saying goodbye was so final that he's not going to come back. 😭 Cassander and Poppy are just two very broken souls, and I get how they have a connection. And there's subtle things in the book where Scarlett puts them together but I really really don't want them to get together. I think Cassander deserves his very own other half not, no offense, but his brothers left over widow. I feel like their love would be great, but I think of them as a brother sister love is better. Poppy was very protective of him and only stood up and fired the gun because of Cassander. I guess we will see how this plays out. Alaric is next. He had a few scenes in this book, but I don't know/remember much about him. Theon... just oh my.. I really can't wait for his book **Fans self** There's just always something about the mysterious bad boy ones that do me in.
Overall 4 starts great book!! Definitely start from the beginning if you're coming into this series, they are not stand alone.
4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this. My biggest complaint, though, is that I wish it was longer. That’s really what I’ve thought about all the books I’ve read in this series so far. They’re just too short for my liking, with all the shit that goes on within them.
I really hate what happened with Godric. I’m still holding out hope that something magical happens sometime later.
I always love the banter that this author infuses into her writing. Her characters are always strong willed and fun to get to know.
The plot was short but still complex with all the overreaching lines woven throughout. The sex was hot and steamy like always, but also sort of brief, unfortunately.
Really I just wish there was more. I really liked these two and I wanted more time with them.
But I’m excited to read about Alaric next, and Im sure these two will pop up again since all the guys are always around each other. Im glad I decided to pick this series back up. Im really enjoying it.
Might try to finish this some other time, but for now this is going in the dnf pile. Other than the sex scenes (which were admittedly pretty hot), I was bored out of my mind. Very predictable, almost superficial dialogue and plot. Overall, I think the only book I enjoyed in this series was Trigger.
Meanwhile, I'll just be waiting for the next book in the Forever More series. I can't believe it's is written by the same author lol, every book in that series is on my favourites shelf.
Absolutely captivating! This is book 3 in the Origins Series and my favorite so far! Scarlett knows how to write strong characters in highly emotional situations! Megan and Rune are perfect for each other but it's the struggles they face that make them unbreakable! Scarlett has added her brand of humor and completely submerged us into to her world of Origin! This book will only Torment readers more by making you impatient for the next book in this trilling and thought provoking series! Thanks Scarlett Dawn for the obsession your writing has created!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. I really liked this book. Rune and Megan have good chemistry together. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book and I especially can't wait for Cassander book.
This is the type of book you willingly miss sleep over! The story focuses on the romance between Megan and Rune!! The chemistry is addictive and you are instantly pulled into their journey. There is plenty of laughs, sass, action and romance to keep your eyes glued to every page. What make this story exceptional is Scarlett Dawn's ability to intertwine multiple stories into one. You see your old and favorite characters within this book growing and developing while combating life struggles. This story is about heartbreak, angst, friendship, and above else love. You'll go from laughing to crying to laughing all over again in the span of fifteen minutes. Its a truly good read and you must must take the time and buy this book. You won't regret this purchase. *Caution: You may want to call out of work the following day because you definitely wont be getting any sleep once you start this book!
This is certainly my favourite novel in this series. Megan is a great, down to earth character, practical and contemporary in every way. There's a couple of surprises, which thankfully, I believe the series needed to lift it from the everyday, average paranormal read. So, I'm waiting to see if the series can keep up the good work.
SD does an excellent job of drawing in a reader. I really wanted to like book #2, but the main character death was upsetting, even more so than in her previous books because it was a main character, and I found myself reading this one to learn about characters from books 1 and 2. That being said, I'm hopeful the overarching storyline of the series ends with a HEA for all the characters. If I can block out the first book (which was my favorite), I can hopefully continue to read the series. This was my least favorite of the 3, but SD is an excellent writer so I still enjoyed the book. I found myself wanting to hear more about other characters in the book. Ruin and Meghan were fine, but I want to hear more about Poppy and Cas and the new king. This book was more filler for me than anything else, but definitely worth reading if you are interested in the series. FWIW, I rarely give 5 stars because I'm trying to establish a reliable rating system and I received this book as an ARC.

Once again there was no problems engaging my emotions with this stellar book! Appropriately named for sure! There is a level of perfection that runs consistently with each of this authors works. The characters truly leap to life, the action and drama keeps your stomach in knots, and the storyline will keep your butt glued to your seat. Am I happy with what happens to certain characters? Not always, but it's those instances that you know you are definitely not reading a cookie cutter book. Loved this book and recommend to all who enjoy truly unique writing!
I'm not really sure how to rate this book. The ending of Book #2 left an emptiness in me as to God's status. I ordered #3 hoping to find out that Poppy's dear God would return to her but I was sorely disappointed. Chapter 18 was heart wrenching to read; full of emotions echoed from all of the gang. I have to give credit to Ms. Dawn for her realism; totally unexpected for a romance writer these days. As for Rune and Megan, their story was a good romp of attraction, snide remarks, teasing flirtations from both, and a final commitment to love.
Book 3 is a powerhouse of sexiness and action. The main characters are so similar it's cute and the growth of their relationship brings the feels. There is a very sad part. Looking forward to the next in the series!
