This review is done as a whole for all three books as each part ends and the other leaves off revolving around Emma and Calisto and their forbidden love affair.
In book one there are Emma and Calisto and Affonso loving two out of three ain't bad Alfonso was nothing but a monster. Emma is forced into marriage with Affonso a marriage she never wanted and a man twice her age but, before she is tied down, she is going to do things on her own time and with someone of her choosing. There were many nights of passion between Calisto and Emma that happened between them before she ended up married but, "oh", know Emma couldn't just fall in love with just anyone it had to be the man's nephew she was bound to marry. The greed, cruelty, abuse was what Emma suffered in silence under the hands of Affonso in their entire marriage and Calisto the only bright light in her very dark world.
Talk about being in between a rock and a hard place, loving one man and hating the other. What we loved most about the story is that you felt Emma and Calisto's despair, their pain, their love, and the hopelessness of it all. The emotions the story brought out in the reader were heart-wrenching as well as gut-wrenching. The chemistry Calisto and Emma had been off the charts. We loved them as a couple and if that was not tragic enough because they cannot undo the circumstances they find them in what comes to pass maybe be a blessing to them both or just more heartache and pain. The story was filled with a ton of danger, suspense, heartache, pain, and tons and tons of secrets and a story that kept you on edge the entire time and was pretty much about a couple who played Russian roulette with their lives on more than one occasion!
Book 2 is more of the same as book one more heartache and pain but, for Emma, it's two-fold she has lost the man she loves to the darkness, and her light snuffed but, secretly she knows she will always have a piece of the man who was once her whole world her soulmate her love. My heart broke time and time again for this couple, the hopelessness of it all for all of them. Affonso was a man you despised and secretly hoped someone he crossed would off the man for the pain he caused to all those who got in the way of what he wanted leaving a wake of dead bodies behind and a string of broken hearts and even more despair but, all those dirty little secrets are about to be revealed and hopefully, justice would be served.
My heart went out to Emma time and time again for the constant pain she continued to be in from the abuse of her husband along with his disinterest in her other than her womb and providing him a son. We were surprised this woman survived it all but, some might think of her as weak but, that woman was stronger and smarter than anyone ever gave her credit for she was doing everything and anything she could do to keep all the ones she loved safe and protected and alive.
Things heated up, even more, this time and things were about to explode! More and More suspense, and someone was about to pay the Piper! Calisto was a character who you instantly fell in love with, and you would learn soon enough of what that man was truly capable of and how one man's loyalty to them all was about to change their lives forever.
Talk about a fantastic ending to an amazing series, book three had it all just more of book one and two. Throughout the entire series, the love that Calisto and Emma had been always evident to those who really looked and clearly saw it knew the constant danger that it put that man in along with those he loved so in order to protect them all Calisto needs to do is to make very strategic moves to move right into the top slot of being the boss.
Still, the pain and heartache continue she may have her freedom but, that does not get her the ones she loves. Calisto and Emma living with an unbelievable secret that can get them all killed but, from all that darkness, something beautiful emerged. There were tons and tons of drama constantly going on and the constant danger that lurks at every corner, but, there is also that kind of love that has stood the test of time for this tragic couple.
Overall just an amazing series the characters were awesome they felt real we felt their pain and sadness and hopelessness and their love. This author has a way of always making you fall in love with her characters they feel very real the men swoon-worthy, dangerous, possessive, protective, they should wear a sign around their necks that says danger beware, yet we cannot help but fall in love with them time and time again. This series ranks up high on my list of favorite mafia crime series neck and neck with Guzzi Family Crime family but, because Gian is one of my top favorite book boyfriends, they come in second place. Furthermore, this author is an amazing storyteller and honestly, I don't know how so many others have not discovered her before now because to us, she is our top favorite author when it comes to mafia romance and having some of the best characters ever. Series like this one and many others she writes are constant rereads for us throughout the year, not only that, it is almost like we need a fix of my favorite characters on a constant basis. Lol This series like all the others once you start reading them, you can't put them down from the first few chapters you are hooked, and you're turning the pages until you have crossed the finish line. One of the things we loved most about this re-released series is because when you finish book one, you wanted to dive directly into book two. Calisto and Emma and Cross are characters not easily forgotten and having read Catherine's and Cross's story already that statement will hold true. Five-star reads across the board for us...

Thin Lies (Donati Bloodlines #1)
If you have read and enjoyed Bethany Kris books before, then you will love this BUT it does have a darker mood, almost a desperation to it.
Its about a young woman, Emma Sorrento and Calisto Donati who is a nephew of the man Emma or 'Emmy' is being given to. Her husband to be is not a nice man, he is much older than her and she is basically a pawn in the deals of men who wish to form alliances and cement their positions and her husband needs a male heir..... charming eh!
Both Emma and Calisto are living a life they don't want to be part of and yet are both trapped in different ways.
The writing is of the same high quality as Bethany's other books, she connects you with the characters she creates and you feel Emma's frustration at her situation. As an example there is a scene where she is with her mother trying on wedding dresses and her mother has to leave and the following events(don't want to spoil it) brought tears to my eyes... so emotional.
The cover is STUNNING, and it raises your expectations of the book but don't worry the book lives up to it.
But I love HEA's so i was a little unsure reading this book as i get so involved with the characters i need them to end up happy, don't expect things to all work out in this book, its not the same as 'The Filthy Marcellos' or The Chicago War series.
Donati Bloodlines is a Trilogy following the same couple and the first two books are cliffhangers while the third is a HEA so this does not finish the story.

So we left the last book feeling heartbroken for our Mob style Romeo/Juliet.... and do not expect a smooth ride. It is very brave for an author to not have the featured couple end up in a happy place and their journey is to be continued.... i don't think this is a spoiler as there are three books, and i am hoping... hoping ...please that book three will sort out the EVIL that is Affonso....
This book does not glamorize the life of the Mob, it is brutal and really poor Emma and also Calisto have no control over their lives and no real say in what they want.
Excellent writing, griping story-line and emotionally engaging. Well done Bethany Kris you have another winner...... Roll on book 3 .... lets hope this is where our fated pair and Romeo and Juliet's similarities end. Don't hold your breath with this brave series you never know.

First of all, I think it must be tremendous pressure to write the end to such an excellent trilogy, everyone has such high expectations and it is such an emotional story. But this is a tribute to the author as she obviously had the ability to draw her readers in to make a connection with the characters and care, even worry what will happen to them.
Before you read this book make sure you read the rest of the series first, this is book three of a trilogy.
At the end of the last book Emma is in a desperate situation, her life has been truly awful and the only light she has was Cal and now he can't remember her or their connection, and lets be honest no-one can wait for Alffonso to be dealt with. He is so horrid and in this book he is a massive threat to Emma and her son.
The previous book left us with several things that could jolt Calisto's memory, Father Day, the Vegas poker chip, the tattoo's etc, we were left with lots of things to ponder over but here in book three is the conclusion.
The couple get their HEA but this book has had a darker feel so don't be suprised to find some sad moments(have the tissues ready) and one very sad loss in particular. Also their future is not as easy as bad boss and hubby out the way so now the couple can be together, what they have done is not acceptable 'honor amongst theives', apparently even they have some moral code.
The epilogue is to die for, it sets up some things for the future generation as well as seeing how things have worked out for Calisto and Emma over the years.

Lots of behind the scenes bits and deleted scenes. If you have read the Bloodlines trilogy you will appreciate this as an addition to those extra little details.

Emma and Castilo...their full story by the queen of mafia romance, Bethany-Kris.
This story starts off by dragging us in as readers. I read the preface and had to know more. I instantly felt for Emma. I wanted to who she was and why she had such strong feelings towards Calisto. What had happened between the two of them to give her such strong conflicted feelings from one look?
"Calisto Donati was her worst mistake, her greatest shame, and the one thing she still wanted more than anything. Emma could still feel him all over her, long after his touch and kiss was gone. In thirty days, her entire world had changed—he had changed her."
I know I needed more right from the beginning. It is almost impossible to explain this story without giving away anything. I will say Bethany-Kris has such talent that she has laid the foundation for a truly unique and suspenseful story with this book. Readers will be drawn in begging for more.
Lines blur for Calisto and Emma. The suspense of their relationship/non-relationship (in appearance only) is built up beyond belief. I loved every word of it. Just when I thought it couldn't get any more complex for these two, the lines and lies crossed.
“Where we are,” Calisto drawled, “will never matter. It’s always going to be stupid and dangerous, Emmy. It’ll always be bad and wrong. The only thing that I care about is making sure you get out pleased and alive each and every time.”
Calisto knew from the beginning how dangerous his connection to Emma would be. This is what drew me into craving more. He doesn't care. He wants her and is going to have her. He is an unforgiving man. He is unapologetic. He also appears to be an uncaring, however we see how he is with Emma. This man is hot...smoking hot.
The suspense and intrigue in this trilogy is off the charts. The plot continues to grow with lines drawn and lies brought to the surface in their world. The conclusion to their story is jaw dropping and heart pumping!
This is another highly recommended book by Bethany-Kris.

The series was fantastic, the story, imo, heartbreaking. It spans time and I was team calisto the whole time. I found the added chapters at the end of the epilogue to actually be most intriguing & interesing. Especially Catherine and Cross since I saw a bit of what was coming in the other series I read.
I do have to say, the women who are having children in the series I'm reading are all having a terrible time of it. Never read so much baby tragedy in my life and my niece works in neo natal. I did however think she nailed that, but, still lots of baby problems.
All these mafia books are epic enjoyable but hard reads. If you love the genre it doesn't get any better. Great supporting characters, excellent writing.

Love this story so much
Have read this before but wanted the collection. I loved the extra material at the end and gets me so excited for the next generation of Donati's and Marcello's. Little unexpected to hear Affonso and Camilla's POV, but I liked it!

OMG. This series is both devastating and perfect. I laughed, cried, blushed...lol. Cal & Emma are probably one of my favorite couples in the Mafia romance genre. Cal is such a strong and devoted partner to Emma and Emma is one of the strongest characters I’ve ever read. Her ability to turn all of that loss and pain into love...perfection.

What a journey
How can I possibly do justice to a fantastic saga. Starting with Donati Lines (2) books and then the Cross and Catherine books, (5) they took me on an
emotional journey covering violence, passion, sex, torture and murder. This saga, is without a doubt, the very best I have ever read. I thoroughly recommend this series.

Wow emotional ride
Loved the series. Roller coaster of emotions. The love and hate story between the three main characters i very well written and kept you on edge. I read the series in one day..

Intriguing and worthy of reading but all 3 books should've been proof read and edited. Too many grammatical errors that does impede reading. Emma was such a let down. She was weak and useless. Book 3 was a drag. Should've been a duet instead.

Good read, but too long. It’s a trilogy that should have been a duet. I did a lot of skimming, because there was a lot of repetition. I’m a Bethany-Kris fan. This just wasn’t at the top of my list.
