ONCE A THIEF NEW from USA Today Bestselling Author JAN THOMPSON
Ginny Aiken, a former newspaper reporter, lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and their three younger sons--the oldest is married, has flown the coop, and made her a doting grandmother. Born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Valencia and Caracas Venezuela, Ginny discovered books at an early age. She wrote her first novel at age fifteen while she trained with the Ballets de Caracas, later to be known as the Venezuelan National Ballet. She burned that tome when she turned a "mature" sixteen. An ecletic list of jobs--including stints as reporter, paralegal, choreographer, language teacher, retail salesperson, wife, mother of four boys, and herder of their numerous and assorted friends, including the 135 members of first the Crossmen and then the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps--brought her back to books in search of her sanity. She is now the author of twenty-seven published works, but she hasn't caught up with that elusive sanity yet.
Crossfire by Susan May Warren - Wow! Even though this is a novella, it is packed with a powerful backstory, a believable love story, and a good dose of danger! It was the wonderful blend of these three things that kept me reading anxiously to see how everything would turn out.
I really liked the two main characters, Kade and Haddie. They had a complicated past of unrequited love and lost chances. This story is connected to the Montana Rescue series because there are a couple of characters from that series who show up in this book. However, it can be read as a stand alone story if you have not read the other series.
Deadly Secrets by Margaret Daley - I could not put this thrilling novella down! Right from the start, danger wove its way onto the pages of this highly emotional story. The author was able to illustrate the powerful impact that secrets have on families and relationships. I enjoyed the way the secrets were slowly revealed throughout this novella, even as it was hard to see those secrets come to light and the hurt that they could cause. I loved these two main characters! Sarah and Hunter were great characters that I felt for and desired a happily ever after for.
Double Exposure by Elizabeth Goddard - This novella was fast paced and full of danger! The author kept me guessing right up to the end. I loved the setting of the wolf sanctuary and the frantic race to stay alive. The characters were interesting and likable. This is another enjoyable novella that I read as a part of the Targeted for Danger collection. I would definitely recommend this collection (or the individual books) to fans of romantic suspense.
Lethal Homecoming by Lynette Eason - I really enjoyed this suspenseful tale. It was hard to know who exactly wanted Callie dead. I thought I knew, but I didn't have everything quite figured out. Made for an exciting read!
I liked the characters and was happy for Callie and Nolan to perhaps get a chance at a happily ever after the second time around. Great for fans of romantic suspense.
Cold Terror by Susan Sleeman - Cold Terror really kept me guessing! The suspense of who was trying to kill Hannah was very captivating and the attraction between the two main characters was ramped up for me by the past that they needed to overcome.
This was the first book that I have read by this author and I definitely plan to read more. It was also the introduction to a series that I look forward to reading.
Taken by Dark by Christy Barritt - After reading this novella as part of the Targeted for Danger collection, I am now determined to read the other books in the Carolina Moon series because I enjoyed this one so much!
The suspense was good. There were some dangerous situations and creepy scenarios. But, wow! The chemistry between these two characters fueled the story for me. I really enjoyed their backstory and hearing a bit about other characters in the series. Now, I just need to go read the other stories and find out what happened to bring certain people together!
This is a super suspenseful collecton. I have no read every singl novella yet, but I have read th contributions by Susan Sleeman, Susan May Warren and Elizabeth Goddard.
Cold Terror from Susan Sleeman is outstanding as is everything she writes. Adrenalin laced from th very first sentence. Sheis amazing!
Double Exposure by Elizabeth Goddard is suspenseful from the beginnin as well. Awesome!
Susan May Warren never disappoints, either. Love her work.
I will add to this review as I read the other novellas, but just one of the above justifies the purchase price.
I have read Susan May Warren 's novella Crossfire in this collection. This has characters from the Montana Rescue series which I have read but could be read as a stand alone. This story is full of romance and suspense...some great kissing scenes;)...and has a theme I adore. Three friends, 1girl and 2 guys who grew up together and there is a love triangle. Kade (hero) is absolutely book boyfriend material...think young Brad Pitt...and was quite heroic and hot :) Very enjoyable read!
"Crossfire" by Susan May Warren *** I Liked It A lot of action in this book; some suspense; a romance rekindled. I liked the ties to the Montana Rescue Series; although, this is a stand alone novella.
"Taken by Dark" by Christy Barritt ** It Was Okay Easy to read, feel good story with a happy-ever-after ending, complete with some hurdles along the way. Some bits are quite believable but others not so much.
"Lethal Homecoming" by Lynette Eason ** It Was Okay I've read this novella before as a stand alone book. Will probably skim through it fairly quickly because it wasn't so very long ago that I first read it. I do like this author's books.
"Treasure" by Ginny Aiken *** I Liked It Action packed suspense; a little bit hard to follow sometimes; interesting location and story line.
"Deadly Secrets" by Margaret Daley *** I Liked It This is the best one of the Strong Women Series that I've read so far. The lead female AND the lead male characters are both strong and well developed even though this novella isn't very long. The plot thickens quickly and has just enough clues being dropped to keep one guessing and turning the pages to get answers.
"Double Exposure" by Elizabeth Goddard *** I Liked It This novella is short and easy to read. The story is intriguing, the characters interesting and the suspense makes it a page turner. I wish this had been developed into a longer novel; seems like there is so much more that could be said instead of left to the reader's imagination (such as how Grant came to be so interested in Tara).
"Cold Terror" by Susan Sleeman **** I Really Liked It This is fast-paced page-turner Romantic Suspense. I am appreciating this author more and more. The fact that this novella is going to kick off a new series delights me. Gage's employees at his Tactical Training compound will provide an interesting diversity of characters to take the lead role in more adventures/ Romantic Suspense tales; they are certainly heroes worthy of their own stories.
"Once A Thief" by Jan Thompson **** I Really Liked It The story starts off fairly fast-paced but then it meanders quite a bit in the last couple of chapters. It's a good book with interesting characters and plot. I liked the clear Christian message(s) in it. I was especially impressed with Reuben as a leading character; he's quite different from most of the male characters in books I've been reading in recent years and that intrigued me for sure.
Some of the premier names in Christian romantic suspense come together in one novella collection.
Double Exposure by Elizabeth Goddard:
When Epidemiologist Tara Blackburn witnesses the destruction of an African village at the hands of someone she trusted, once looked up to, her only thought is to flee. When Grant McCall shows up at the Wolf Sanctuary where Tara is hiding, she fears she’s been found.
Yet, there’s a connection to this man she’s just met. In spite of everything that’s happened, she trusts him to protect her.
The pace of this novella is set at sprint from the first pages and ramps up as Tara and Grant race to discover the players behind the bioterrorism threat. But even members of terrorist organizations can double cross each other.
The tension and chemistry between Tara and Grant are believable even though they just met. The question of who the bad guys are and the action keeps the story moving at a fast clip until the satisfying conclusion.
Cold Terror by Susan Sleeman:
When Gage Blackwell sees someone in the water during a storm, his rescue skills immediately kick in, the response ingrained in him. Little does he know the woman in the water is the one he left for adventure. The one he hasn’t forgotten. As Gage vows to protect Hannah, he must also protect his heart.
Susan Sleeman adds some unique elements to this story—an injured ex-Navy SEAL who has created a place for others like him to put their skills to good use, a little girl with a lifelong disability, and a killer who is not after the obvious. The combination creates a tense and satisfying story where the connection between Gage and Hannah is as intense as the suspense.

Drama and action start on the first page, and they don't let up. The reader is taken along on a ride as forensic artist Hannah Perry's hopes of a peaceful vacation are shattered by someone determined to kill her...and she has no idea why. Ex-Navy SEAL Gage Blackwell rescues Hannah and her son. As they were together years ago, it's hard to keep old feelings at bay, but that's what must be done if they hope to survive. Is it possible that it could all be related to the death of Hannah's husband, which she thought was an accident? Can she trust Gage with her life after he let her down if the past?
Strong characters abound in this story. It's fascinating to see how forensic artists work and the important part they play in solving crimes. Numerous twists and intricate detailing add to the enjoyment of this suspense. I look forward to reading the rest of the stories in this set.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this story, but I wasn't required to leave a review. Opinions expressed are my own.
Great characters, intriguing plot, suspense on every page, great family strength and oh so much more! Hannah Perry and her son David are looking forward to a peaceful vacation. There peaceful interlude is shattered by an intruder. They barely escape with their lives and are rescued by ex- Navy Seal Gage Blackwell. He volunteers his team - Blackwell Tactical - to protect Hannah and David. There's a slight issue as Gage and Hannah were a couple a long time ago. Will they find a way to put their past behind them in order to find out the identity of the man who is trying to kill her? Will they work out their insecurities and break down the walls between them? This is another excellent novella by Sleeman. I received an ARC of this book from the author. The opinions expressed here are my own.
Cold Terror is one of the stories in this anthology by talented Christian romance authors. True to form, even when it’s a novella, Ms Sleeman gives us a powerful story. Gage and Hannah were sweethearts when they were young but he left her and didn’t look back. Fast forward and they meet again by accident, literally, when he rescues her and her son David . Both are single parents when their spouses suffer tragic accidents. Now Hannah’s and her son’s lives are in danger and Gage is determined to keep her safe. It’s a story about loss, intrigue, finding faith and God, love of a child, learning to trust again, and once again, finding love. I have not doubt that it will be the beginning of another wonderful series by this author. I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Double Exposure By Elizabeth Goddard Eight authors in Christian Romance comes together in one anthology. Double Exposure by Elizabeth Goddard has great Characters, plot, action, and suspense from the very first page. This is a fast paced story so fasten your seat belt and hang on for the ride of your life. Tara Blackburn is an Epidemiologist and working in an African village where she witness the destruction of the people and village. She has no choice but to run for her life and hope they did not see her. Hiding out to save her life , but someone has found her . What should she do , run again? She cannot trust anyone. I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but was not told that I had to give a positive review.
I have read most of the authors in this series, so I knew the books would be written well. From Christy Barritt's "Taken by Dark" to Susan May Warren's "Crossfire", each individual story feels like a moment of deep impact. That moment that changed everything for each individual character that the novella follows. Some of these novellas are part of series that the individual authors have written. Some were shorter; while others were longer. It is a great way to spend a weekend. The plots move fast since they are novellas with a hint of romance to tie the romantic suspense genre together. The authors hadn't written definitely gave me a taste of their writing style and made me want to sample the rest of their writing. I enjoyed this sample collection.
I only read the book Taken by Dark by Christy Barritt from this set I havent had the chance to read the others yet....
I loved this book. It was fun to see Willa get her own story I remember her from the other books in this series. Sometimes as a parent, especially a mother we get wrapped up in our kids and take time for ourselves. Willla was kind of forced into taking a step back and then found that her life was also on the line. May we all take the time to enjoy life! The Author does an amazing job at pulling you into the story you won't be able to put this one down. Can't wait to read more.
Note: I was gifted a copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
During the "Great Power Outage" from Hurricane Irma, this book was a great distraction. I had time before Irma to fully charge the Kindle and since it was an older model without back light, used a tiny book light and flashlight to provide some enjoyment to the day! Each story is well-written and intriguing: some from inspirational suspense authors I know and love and a few from unfamiliar authors. Those writers have now been added to my must-read list. Each novella had an intense situation and likeable main characters struggling through life, past marked events and scary situations. What a great collection from an all-star writing team!
Targeted for Danger was an entertaining set of romantic suspense novellas with many of the stories keeping you on the edge of your seat. I purchased this set because I enjoy reading Susan May Warren and Margaret Daley and this set offered books that I had not read before. Their stories Crossfire and Deadly Secrets were good, but I ended up enjoying Elizabeth Goddard's Double Exposure and Susan Sleeman's Cold Terror even more! If you like to read clean, romantic suspense, buying this set is a great way to enjoy authors you know and try new authors too.
Eight Christian Romantic Suspense Novellas Double Exposure by Elizabeth Goddard
How far would you go to save the lives of others? Would you give up at the first sign of danger? In this fast paced suspense novella, the characters are dedicated to finding justice even while battling all sorts of enemies. This story is action packed and full of adventure. Great story. I received a copy of this novella from the author and this is my personal honest opinion.
This is an excellent set of thrilling suspense novellas. And as an additional bonus several of them are the first in series so there's more to look forward to. I originally bought this as two of my favourite authors were in the collection - Susan May Warren and Lynette Eason. Neither of them ever disappoint but it was good to be introduced to some new authors too. Pick this up and get ready for an edge of your seat read!
Targeted For Danger is a compilation of 8 short stories written by 8 different authors. For the most part I enjoyed all of the stories. It is hard to develop characters in such a short amount of words, so I found some of the relationships worked for me and some did not. I found some of the suspense worked for me and some did not. I reviewed each book individually on my blog: https://myfavoritepastime.blogspot.co...
Taken by Dark by Christy Barritt was an enjoyable and suspenseful read. Being a novella it doesn't have quite the details that her full length novels have, but there is closure and the mystery is solved. I was pretty certain I knew who the bad guy was, but I was way off (which is good). I also enjoyed the first love, second chances aspect of the story.
I'm only through the third book in Targeted For Danger and every book within has been awesome! Full of action, mystery, and mayhem...the characters are great. If you love romantic suspense that are quick, but amazing reads, this series is for you! I love these authors!
Grab a favorite beverage and cozy up in a favorite chair and prepare yourself for a roller coaster ride with these eight Christian romantic suspense novellas by some excellent authors. You have different settings, storylines and cast of characters across the pages. You are guaranteed to stay awake and read each one. I highly recommend each one.
The authors will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. These books are so good you can’t stop reading them. You will feel God working throughout these books. I had the honor to review this box set for the authors. The review is my honest thoughts and reaction to this box set. I would give a higher rating than a five star review if I could.
Each story is well written. Some are very short, but none felt rushed or incomplete. These stories are not nail biters, light danger and suspense, perfect to read before bed or during break time at work. Well done.
I really enjoyed getting to read this set of books. They were just the right length each to read one and then get back to another one. They all went together well and I look forward to finding more from the authors involved.
I loved this Novella it was written by some of my favorite authors. Christ Barritt, Lynette Eason, Ginny Aiken, Margaret Daley, Elizabeth Goddard,Susan Sleeman, and Jan Thompson; it just doesn't get any better than that. I know you are going to love this book.
These were all extremely well written stories that kept me on the edge of my seat. I could barely wait to turn the page to see what would happen next. This is a great set!
Loved several by my faithful favs but also enjoyed getting to see some new authors to me . Lynnette Eason is amazing and enjoyed her as always. Also loved many others. Well done ladies!
