Of the four Tomahawk stories in this issue only one of them has a Revolutionary War background. This fits in with other older Tomahawk stories I've read where the Revolution isn't even mentioned. Instead the stories seem to be more straight western stories. Of course the time frame is a little different from the traditional western story, as is the setting, but as one writer said "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds". Not all Indians are presented as villians either. Some tribes are shown to be friends with the white man. Unfortunately this was not always the case in popular media. All four were enjoyable stories. Athough there may be a villain in a story, that doesn't mean the story is centred on some sort of conflict/fight. In the last one the antagonist is trying to prove that the long lost son of a chief who has allegedy returned is really an imposter. This one is probably my favourite story of the four, though I am annoyed at the ending. The deception succeeds, but was expecting the long-lost son to actually reappear. There is also a story concerning an Indian legend and also one about the first trail drive from Texas to the mining communities. Both were interesting and informative. So all in all this was a good read. Unfortunately as far as I know there has never been a collection of Tomahawk stories issued by DC. It would be nice to have seen it at least get the Showcase Presents treatment but it didn't. Ah well, maybe you can find a copy either a back issue or on the internet. Happy reading.
