From USA Today bestselling author Karen Erickson comes the third sexy stand-alone novel in her WORTH IT series!
Can you capture magic in a bottle?
Rhett Worth has never lived up to his potential. He’s ready to prove to his older brothers that he’s more than his good looks; that he adds value to the family business beyond his panty-dropping smile. Except that the one job he was given, developing and delivering Worth Luxury’s signature scent, has wafted away along with the perfumer.
Gabriella Durand enters the boardroom prepared to beg the Worths to give her father a second chance at creating the blend he was tasked with. Instead, she finds the devastatingly handsome Rhett presenting her as the second chance. Hungry to step out of her family’s shadow, she plays along.
Soon, the two find themselves in Maui, hunting for the perfect scent. Despite his vow of professionalism, Rhett can’t fight the passion between him and Gabriella.
The tropical breeze that washes across their intertwined bodies offers salvation, but a whiff of betrayal threatens to destroy everything.
** Worth The Challenge was originally published by Samhain Publishing. This edition is a reissue, reedited but without any changes to the story.**

Even though Worth the Challenge is the 3rd book in the Worth It series (a contemporary romance series about three dashingly handsome brothers and how they find love), it was my first encounter with the Worth brothers, and oh what an encounter! *dreamy sighs*
This book is Rhett Worth’s story, the youngest of the Worth brothers, the irresponsible playboy one. Or at least that’s the old reputation of his that Rhett is fighting to change by showing the world and his brothers that he has changed his ways and he is worthy of trust and responsibility. To achieve that he wants to make the project that was attributed to him (creating the first Worth perfume) a smashing success. Here’s where Gabriella, our heroine enters the scene, as she is the perfumer he wants to engage (in more than just the professional way *winks) to create the scent.
Both Gabriella and Rhett were wonderful character: Rhett was irresistible: he was smooth and charming, warm hearted and tender, but what made him adorable and had me chuckling every single time was how this suave playboy blurted out such silly and at times even insulting things to Gabriella when his intent was the exact opposite I also found it unjust how he was branded an irresponsible playboy when he took this project so seriously and how much he worried about its success. It was clear that he has matured and grown up since his womanizing younger days and his brothers and the world hasn’t noticed it yet or preferred to keep him in his neatly labeled box. So it was heartwarming to see him ease up and become an adorably playful lover with Gabriella in the bedroom. It was obvious that he became so carefree because he was feeling relaxed and happy.
And I liked Gabrielle because she was such a normal heroine we readers can relate to: she is ordinary, shy, has insecurities (but in a very normal way), and gets completely weak kneed and stunned whenever Rhett flashes her one of his dazzling smiles, so as I said a very relatable and lovable heroine.
The attraction between them and their chemistry was potent and pulsing with heat:
"The way he’d looked at her, the things he’d said, how he’d touched her so gently, so reverently, as if he were afraid to push too hard for fear she might break. It was considerate of him, she could appreciate his manners, but she wanted more. She wanted passion. She wanted rough hands all over her, a crushing, bruising kiss pressed to her mouth with wet tongues and heated moans. Tearing clothes off of each other’s bodies, so overwhelmed they couldn’t make it to the bedroom. He’d take her against a wall, on the couch, on the floor, wherever they landed. And when she finally screamed her release, it was because he encouraged her every step of the way with shockingly wicked words whispered close to her ear."
And what made me melt and sigh along with Gabriella was how their passionate love affair turned into something tender and more than just sexcapades. It just made me melt how worshipping and cherishing Rhett was with Gabriella.
(And double brownie points for Karen Erickson for leaving the ending as it was and not having the forced obligatory conclusion, in my opinion it was perfect just the way it was!
The other aspect of the story that I very much enjoyed besides the romance were the tidbits Karen Erickson shared about the perfume business and more specifically to the process of creating scents. I found it all fascinating and very interesting:
“I should probably put on my swimsuit. I want to go into the ocean.” “You like to swim?” He could break out into a cold sweat just thinking about her in a swimsuit. “Oh, I’m not going into the ocean to swim. It’s an experiment.” When he frowned, she continued. “I want to see what the ocean water smells like on my skin when it’s wet and then when it’s dry. I’ll need your input as well.” Rhett swallowed hard. Jesus. She really was trying to kill him. “My input?” “Well, I’ll need you to smell my skin too.”
"when he finally had the vial in his hand and sprayed the scent onto the touche, he brought the thin paper to his nose, sniffing delicately, almost afraid of what he might discover. It hit him like a punch to the gut. Heat, so much heat. Golden sand and dark night, lit torches accompanied by the low murmur of drums. A blazing bright sky tempered by a cool breeze. Plumeria blossoms and salt, the scent of her skin, the scent of his, the two of them combined, their limbs tangled in the sheets. Evocative, haunting, he could visualize as well as smell the scent."
Verdict: Worth the Challenge was my first but most certainly not the last book I’ve read about the Worth brothers. Karen Erickson has created such lovable characters who make you the reader feel as if you were among family and good friends. If you want a heartwarming yet scorching hot romance pick up Worth the Challenge I found it enchanting and can’t wait to get to know the other Worth brothers better, and I’m sure you’ll feel the same once you’ve discovered them. ;-)
I give Worth the Challenge 4.5 stars!
Plot: 8/10 Characters: 9/10 Writing: 9/10 Ending: 9/10 Cover: 8/10 (I would have preferred a cover depicting them in Maui, but I guess this was chosen to suit the other 2 covers, love their intimate and tender embrace!)
Rhett's story was nicely done. I was glad to see that he and Gabriella did not follow the path of his older brothers but found their love for one another. Nice twist at the end too. Look forward to the next story.
Rhett is my absolute favorite Worth brother. I have been waiting for his story for what seems like forever. Poor Rhett hasn't always been serious about Worth Luxury and even though he's been actually trying to change over the last few years his brothers aren't so quick to believe the change. I love the idea of creating a perfume and a story around it. The idea they come up with is so intriguing I kept trying to imagine the scent in my head while I was reading it. lol The sex was of course amazingly hot, but they also had their sweet moments where I thought my heart would melt.
The twist at the end ensures us at least one more book in the series (I'm holding out hope for more)! Since it's a surprise I can't reveal the twist obviously but Karen is such a tease she did save it for the very, very end of the book! lol So if you like your men a bit on the brooding side with a bit of a troubled past and women who are shy until they meet the right man to bring them out of their shell then you need to buy this book immediately.
This book had everything I was looking for. So much was in store for Rhett and Gabriella. They had to learn to be confident of themselves and learn of their past mistakes.
Rhett has been trying desperately to move past his mistakes and show his brothers that he isn't the same person. What he didn't expect was for his well crafted plan to implode on itself. Gabriella has been trying to keep herself and her father afloat for years. Her father is a world-class perfumer but his reputation is nothing when he won't take any jobs. When she finds out that her dad won't take the position Worth is offering him Gabriella decides to do something about it. What Gabriella doesn't expect is to be hired on the spot when she hasn't ever been truly tested before. Rhett and Gabriella both have to right for their jobs but more than that they have to fight for love. Is love going to be worth it for Rhett and Gabriella?
Rhett Worth has always been seen as a screwup. When the perfumer he was going to work with for his company’s new line ghosts him, his daughter steps up to take his place.
Gabriella, Ella to most, has inherited her fathers talent but many see her as inexperienced and too young to really know what she’s doing. But Rhett is in a bind and needs her now.
On their trip to Maui to figure out the perfect fragrance, these two also take a tumble in the bedroom. For several days. But as their trip winds down, Ella sees this as a Maui fling as she know Rhett’s usual MO of love ‘em and leave ‘em.
When they get back New York, Ella ignores Rhett while coming up with the perfect scent, which impresses all three of the Worth Brothers.
This is the third book in a series and can be read as a stand-alone.
Good story revolving around the youngest Worth brother and his romance with Gabriella Durand. The format is very similar to the two books before this however there is a cliffhanger at the end of this one. Annoys me no end however the book is still worth 4 stars.
I liked it, but not a lot really happened and quite frankly i didn't understand what the heroine was talking about with the " try to find " conflict. She says this is what he always does, he runs?? They spent four days on an island and when they got back she spent two weeks in the lab. They spoke during that time but she kept things professional. Where was the running?? I don't get it!
If you're looking for something that is charming and entertaining to read then look no further. The story has drama and romance but best yet a great ending to leave the reader looking for other companion books.
I’ve been waiting for Rhett Worth’s book, as much as I’ve enjoyed the first two books in this series there’s always been something that’s drawn me to Rhett. I don’t think it’s his bad boy reputation, I think it was because I knew that something bigger was lurking behind it. I also knew that when he met his match, he’d fall hard and fast. Those that fight it the most usually do and Karen did not disappoint. I’d also like to point out that even though Rhett is referred to as the “bad boy” of the Worth brothers, he somehow managed NOT to get his girlfriend pregnant, so way to go Rhett for knowing how to use a condom!
I absolutely adore Rhett, he has this tough exterior but deep down he’s really a lost little boy that wants everyone to take him seriously. It’s tough when you are labeled (with reason) and when you try to reinvent yourself those closest to you, the ones who should support and believe you, seem to think you are incapable of change. I’ll admit I wasn’t too fond of Gabrielle at first but as the book went on, she proved she was exactly the right person for Rhett. I love the way she supported Rhett unconditionally and he returned that support. In fact, out of all the brothers I feel Rhett was then most mature when it came to his relationship with Gabriella. Considering what a ladies’ man he was in the past, it became evident early on his feelings ran deep and while he was afraid to admit them out loud he at least recognized them and worked to accept them. While I understand Gabriella found it hard to believe Rhett’s intentions, she seemed to work overtime to brush him aside. The girl has very obvious trust issues, which are totally understandable, but at times I found her somewhat infuriating and I personally wanted to pop her upside the head a few times.
The ongoing issues between Rhett and Hunter (brother #2) added a lot of tension to the book but I appreciate that Gabriella tried to mediate between Rhett and both his brothers. That one reason alone endeared her to me. Gabriella’s issues with her father were much worse but again Rhett proved time and time again that he had unwavering confidence in her and her abilities. Rhett did a lot to bolster Gabriella’s self confidence without trying to smother her which makes him the ultimate hero in my eyes.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story even with the somewhat surprising ending (although I’ll admit I had a feeling it was coming) and am excited that it looks like we’ll have at least one more book to enjoy in this series. Worth The Challenge is by far my favorite in this series with Rhett proving that people can change when they put their minds to it and when they have someone who believes in them unconditionally. Well done Ms. Erickson, well done!
I feel like I waited forever for this book. Rhett caught my attention in book one of the Worth It series. I wondered how he could possibly be redeemed. I posed that very question in my review of Worth the Scandal. My response, from the FABULOUS Ms. Erickson herself, was: “I'm writing Rhett's now - your wanting to know how I'll redeem him made me think, "I hope I don't let her down!" Eeek! Writers are neurotic folks.”
Yeah, I am a bit of a fan girl, I admit it!
Oh those Worth men! They are all so hot, charismatic, and alpha. I do get in a twist over them. This book lived up to my every expectation. I really just wanted to bitch slap Hunter several times. I get his “once bitten, twice shy” mentality but sometimes he carried it a little too far. Or maybe that’s just my soft spot for Rhett talking. If I wasn't already in love with him before I started this book, I definitely would have been by the end. The maturity of his character was clear; especially if you have been with this series from book one.
I was so excited to meet Gabriella, who comes complete with her own set of problems. I said it before and I will say it again, Ms. Erickson sure knows her way around stories with troubling family dynamics. The angst and drama are a pleasure to read. I really wanted to beat Gabriella’s father. Man I sound violent. But I love it. I LOVE books that make me feel strong emotions and be able to relate to the characters.
All this and we got to catch up with all our favorite characters from the first two books. Not to mention there was a very cleverly tantalizing end to the book, introducing us to…PSYCH! I am not giving it away if you haven’t read the book yet. And if you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Rhett’s story is a steamy, hot, love story that made me long for the tropical breezes of Hawaii and a whiff of that perfume. I felt like I was there on the beach and that is why I love Ms. Erickson’s stories so much. She has a knack for writing, that makes you feel like you are right there. I can’t wait to read the next installment in the Worth It series.
My rating is a 4.5 but I decided to bump it up to a 5 because this is my favourite of the three.
I really enjoyed this one. I always have a soft-spot for reformed playboys like Rhett so I came into this one with high expectations and I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed.
The chemistry between Ella and Rhett was awesome. I'm not a fan of love at first sight books (which slightly irked me about the other two) but I felt that with these two it started out as more of an attraction and then grew into a solid relationship. Unlike with Worth the Risk I definitely saw why Ella and Rhett were attracted to each other. Another bonus was that their actions remain consistent given their character backgrounds (ie, nothing happened that felt like it came out of left field).
This book wasn't a plot suspenseful as the previous two but I liked the plot in this one. The "big betrayal" wasn't as impacting as the description would have you think but it does add to the plot.
As for the ending-I have mixed feelings. I would have liked more closure between Ella and Rhett but with the addition of another book in the series I'm hoping that I will get some of that. A positive about the ending is that I am very much interested in what will happen in the next one and in where the spin-off(?) series is going.
I think fans of Rhett from the previous books will be very satisfied with his story and enjoy it. And for those who have never read the series, I highly recommend that you read the other two first, it will help you appreciate this one so much more.
Awww, how sweet. We knew Rhett was reforming his playboy, irresponsible days from the last book. It was really nice to see him really care about the company and ultimately really care about the one woman who was perfect for him.
Rhett took on the project of creating a signature scent for Worth. He had contacted and thought he had a verbal agreement with a renowned perfumer, but when it came time to actually get to work on it, Michel Durand could not be reached. Fortuitously, his daughter, who had been trained as a perfumer but had no real experience, showed up to apologize for her father, and Rhett decided to offer her the position. It didn't hurt that Gabrielle was beautiful. Sparks were flying between them, but Rhett tried so hard to keep it professional. He didn't want to mess up their working relationship, and he needed her to create this scent.
So what better place to find the perfect scent than Hawaii? And what better place for defenses to crumble and love to build? And that's exactly what happened. They had great chemistry, though I find it a little unbelievable that they could give themselves so totally to each other and expect it to end when the Hawaiian excursion was over. But that's really what they thought.
And of course, things didn't go smoothly, and issues come up that keep them apart. But ultimately, it's a really sweet HEA. Plus, we got a surprise potentially fourth sibling, which makes me wonder if there's another book in the wings. I wouldn't mind. This has been a really sweet series.
Together, they're magic. Now to capture it in a bottle... Worth It, Book 3
For once in his errant life, Rhett Worth is ready to prove to his older brothers he's more than good looks and a woman-melting smile. Except he's screwed up. And it's about to hit the fan as he prepares to tell them he's failed to deliver the master perfumer, Michel Durand, to create Worth Luxury's signature scent.
Then salvation walks through the boardroom door, all wrapped up in a petite, seductive package. Gabriella Durand is prepared to beg the Worths to give her capricious father another chance. Instead, she finds the devastatingly handsome Rhett Worth offering it to her as if he'd planned it all along. And Gabriella, hungry to emerge from her father's shadow, jumps at it.
Soon they're in Maui to hunt for the perfect scent...and find it in the tropical breeze that washes across their entwined bodies. Now the pressure is on to capture that passion in a bottle-before they let love complicate the delicate mix. Before a whiff of betrayal threatens to destroy everything.
Warning: The last of the Worth brothers, he's the wildest one of all. Expect lots of challenges, much yearning, plenty of vulnerabilities revealed-and lots of macho Alpha behavior on the hero's part. Don't worry, though. He'll be begging for the heroine's love before the end, we guarantee it.
have a soft spot for bad boys and rebel children. Rhett fits both those descriptions very well. He is the rapscallion brother that seems to get away with just doing little to nothing. Alex finally gives him a chance to have some responsibility in the form of developing a new perfume line. Two months in to the development and he has nothing to show for it. The man he had chosen as the designer for the perfume has failed to commit and he doesn't know what to do.
Gabriella Durand is hoping that Rhett will allow her to have the contract in place of her flaky father. This is her chance to make her own name in the perfume world. Rhett sees her as a blessing when she walks in on the day that his brothers are demanding results.
These two come together because they both have something to prove. I like that. I know what it is like to feel like you always have to prove yourself and no one believes that you have actually changed. I would love to be able to actually smell Ella's fragrance, though!
I have to admit that the curve ball thrown at the end of the story actually left me wanting to read the next phase in this story. Can't wait to see where Ms. Erickson takes this trio of brothers.
Rhett Worth was the youngest of three brothers. He also had a reputation for being a screw up and a reputation as being a ladies' man. His brother Alexander tried to encourage him to grow up. Hunter, his other brother, felt he would never grow up and often expressed his feeling so Rhett. Finally Rhett decides he needs to start being more responsible and less of a playboy so he moves back to New York from LA to become the head of a new division in the family business. Enter Gabriella. She's young and the daughter of a well-known perfumer who is being vetted by Rhett's company to work for them exclusively. There's just one problem...Michel Durand is rather eccentric and doesn't answer any of Rhett's correspondence. This becomes a huge problem for Rhett until the day Ella (Gabriella) walks into the office for a meeting that wasn't on his schedule. See what happens when these two take a trip to Maui for a few days to see if she can capture the scent that Rhett is looking for for their new cologne line. They don't just discover that scent but they also discover each other.
There's another book coming that hopefully will now bring the family full circle.
Rhett Worth the youngest of the Worth brothers has a reputation for being a bad boy party animal. Now he is trying to change his ways and grow up. Alex, older brother and CEO, has given Rhett a chance to create a line of perfumes for the company. He has been wooing Michel Durand world premier perfumer to create his scent. Durand ends up a no show and Rhett is about to be declared a screw up yet again. Enter Gabriella Durand, Michel Durand's daughter and a darn good perfumer in her own right but who has been hidden under her dad’s spotlight. This is a chance for both of them to prove themselves and maybe find each other as well. This was my favorite in the Worth series so far.
Okay, I was expecting something big just like the first book of Worth It series, Alex's story. But it's like the quality went downhill after Hunter's story..
In both previous books, Rhett seems like a very fun guy. Laid back and very charming. But I didn't really feel it in this book. He's 'normal' and I didn't really fond of him.
It's like Miss Karen forgot to put spice here and there so the book fell flat.
And the surprise at the ending, definitely caught me off guard. I was expecting an entire different tale but, well, we'll see after this.
3rd book in series. The story of Rhett the youngest brother and Gabriella. Rhett has always ben known as the friendlist and screwed up worth brother. Wants more fun then working. Its finally time to grow up and he has plans for a fragrance line to the chain. Gabriella is the daughter of the perfumer that Rhett thought he had hired for the job. Gabriella comes in instead of he dad. Rhett and Gabriella have an instant chemistry but know they shouldn't get together because of their work relationship.
I couldn't wait for this book to come out, and I was NOT disappointed as I could not put it down. The chemistry between Rhett and Ella sizzled, and it so made you want Rhett and Ella to succeed in their quest for the fragrance. The only thing I would have liked in the story line was how the family reacted when they found out that Rhett had entangled himself with Ella-since they expected him to be the playboy. Keep bringing on more books Karen!!!
WAW is the first thing that comes to my mind, Wort the Challenge is the best book in the series Worth. Its sexy, hot, romantic, this story not only plays with your senses but it puts them on fire with the scent that they are looking for. And at the end when you think every is set and done BOOM!!! comes a big revelations than leaves speechless, wanting to read the next book Wort Everything. For best Worth series book once again 5 stars*****.
Rhett is rather quite the gentleman in contrast to the "bad boy" character Hunter keeps on saying. Gabriella is an absolute joy! I like her character! She's smart, cute, awesome, funny, and confident!
I like how Tessa's character is turning out to be :> Slightly saddened, again, that she doesn't have that much exposure.. I know that she's not the star in this book but it would have been nice :)
Karen writes erotic fiction with a sweet romantic twist. It is always great to see the over confident male fall. If the last two books of the series is anything to go by this is a must read on anyones wish list. I have already pre ordered the book and will most probably finish it the day it comes out.
nullMy fav out of all 3!!!!! i couldn't wait for rhett to realize he was in love!!!!! it kept me on the seat of my pants through out the entire book!!!!! The ending!!!!! OMG!!!!! I cant wait for the 4th book!!! seriously its gonna be an intense read!!!!!! Thank you to Ms. Erickson for writing these characters
